Sister Hazel: Change your mind Reminds me of riding in a car with the first boy I ever loved with the wind blowing and the sun shining. Just one of those idealic memories, that seems almost fake. The Venga Boys: Sex on the Beach Pretty much my entire first year of college, we played that song incessently. The Weathergirls: It's Raining Men Drunken karaoke at the L & M and my always sober and Designated Driver friend getting up and singing this--stone cold sober in front of all the drunks. Liz Phair: Why Can't I? Worst re-break up of my life, and all the radio played was that piece of s*** song. Dar Williams: Anything (but notably The Pagans and the Christians, End of the Summer and the song about February) Always reminds me of one of my best friends in college, I have lots of Dar's cd's and I can never listen to one without missing Allie. Nelly: Hot In Here My sister loved this song. I remember I was standing in the kitchen one night when she got off work and she just walks through the kitch removing her clothes (had to go through the kitchen to get to the laundry room) while singing this song. 50 Cent: In Da Club and Magic Stick My sister again, she would sing this song under her breath in my ear during all the hymns last easter. I would crack up--and get the death ray stares from the parents.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 06:54 PM) Here's a question I'm wondering about. Has anyone ever found out that a friend of their's was gay and did that affect how you viewed them or how you hung out with them? I haven't had a good friend come out openly before so I wouldn't know but I have thought about how it would affect our friendship and I don't think it would, I think it'd all be the same, but once again I've never been through it so I don't know. I've had several good friends that came out, mostly starting after high school graduation. I know it probably sounds fake and cliche, but it really hasn't affected any of my friendships. They've all been people that are just wonderful and that I absolutely cherish, so who they are attracted to doesn't really matter. Unfortunately, a couple of my friends have had their other "friends" disown them or cut off all contact, which I've never understood. QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 07:09 PM) Can somebody explain to me why somebody would want to be gay? In my experiences, it seems to be people craving attention. Any attention is good attention to somebody who is craving it. Do most of you agree with Rock that it is a choice, or do you believe that it is an innate behavior? The only logical thing that I have heard is "God's way of stopping over population", but don't all boys in middle school have raging hormones for the females? Even the gay guys that I know from my high school were straight in middle school and "liked" girls. If I am remembering high school and middle school correctly, I would have done anything to fit in. How many girls had their hair cut into "The Rachel" or wore the same ugly ugg boots? I think that closeted teens are doing much the same thing--just trying to fit in so they won't get teased--middle school and high school kids can be absolutely merciless. And I think that Flaxx and hammerhead hit it on the head about "choosing" to be gay--why the heck would you make that choice? To risk alienating your best friends, family, your co-workers, your place of worship? I can't fathom choosing to go through what my queer friends have gone through.

Link I saw this break on NYT. Very sad story. I hope they find whoever did this. . . 7 Family Members Slain in Indianapolis Article Tools Sponsored By By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Published: June 2, 2006 INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Seven family members, the youngest just 5 years old, were shot to death in their home, and police said Friday they were seeking at least two suspects. The attack appeared to have been a home invasion, but not random, Deputy Police Chief Tim Foley said. He said investigators were considering several possible motives. Police reached the house on the city's east side shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday after a witness saw one of the victims being dragged inside and heard gunfire. In the home, officers found three children -- ages 5 to 11 -- dead on a bed and the bodies of four adults scattered inside, police said. All had been shot in what officials described as the city's worst mass killings in decades. Police Chief Michael Spears released a photo of one suspect Friday morning, Desmond Turner, 28, an Indianapolis resident with a criminal history that includes time served for pointing a handgun and criminal recklessness. Police said they were searching for another man and witnesses reported seeing three or four men running from the back of the house. The seven victims spanned three generations of a family, from 5-year-old Luis Albarran to his grandmother Emma Valdez. Luis had spent the evening with his grandmother while his mother, Flora Albarran, was out running errands with a friend, police said. Albarran, 22, arrived about 10 p.m. to pick the boy up. When Albarran walked up to the house and opened the door, her friend saw a light come on and heard Albarran shout: ''Don't do that! My child!'' She yelled to her friend not to come in the house, then the friend heard gunshots and Albarran screaming, police said a news release. A man holding a long gun stepped onto the porch, and the shootings continued inside, the friend told police. Authorities identified the victims as Emma Valdez, 46, and her husband, Alberto Covarrubias, 56; Flora Albarran and her brother Magno Albarran, 29; Alberto Covarrubias, 11; David Covarrubias, 8 or 9; and young Luis. Neighbor Frank Dodson, 49, said Valdez' husband had been at his home earlier that evening and nothing appeared to be wrong. ''They were real friendly people,'' he said. ''You couldn't ask for better neighbors. God, I hate to see this happen.'' At the home Friday morning, an iron security door stood open as the officers passed in and out, and a wind chime hung in one window. Police had no history of calls to the home apart from one to check on an alarm. Neighbors said that the area had declined in recent years and that drug crimes and muggings had become more common. ''We have been complaining and complaining,'' said Sandy Washington, 65, who said she had gone to neighborhood meetings to report drugs and prostitution in the area. ''Our voices aren't heard.'' Thursday's slayings were the city's worst since King Edward Bell, a laid-off autoworker, killed his estranged wife, mother-in-law and four children in 1981. Bell was sentenced to six consecutive 40-year prison terms.

Cool! Prehistoric ecosystem found in Israeli cave Wed May 31, 8:10 AM ET JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli scientists said on Wednesday they had discovered a prehistoric ecosystem dating back millions of years. The discovery was made in a cave near the central Israeli city of Ramle during rock drilling at a quarry. Scientists were called in and soon found eight previously unknown species of crustaceans and invertebrates similar to scorpions. "Until now eight species of animals were found in the cave, all of them unknown to science," said Dr Hanan Dimantman, a biologist at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He said the cave's ecosystem probably dates back around five million years when the Mediterranean Sea covered parts of Israel. The cave was completely sealed off from the world, including from water and nutrients seeping through rock crevices above. Scientists who discovered the cave believe it has been intact for millions of years. "Every species we examined had no eyes which means they lost their sight due to evolution," said Dimantman. Samples of the animals discovered in the cave were sent for DNA tests which found they were unique, he said. The cave has been closed off as scientists conduct a more detailed survey. "This is a cave of fantastic biodiversity," Dimantman said
