  1. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 08:39 AM) Nah. What we need is for them to stop paying lip service to people on our side and actually do something. If organizations like this expended a small fraction of the effort they expended on coddling the terrorist savages who are behind this to get people on our side freed then Id be impressed. And precisely how much time have you spent learning about what Amnesty International does? Their specific cases? My guess is a total of under 5 minutes. In my opinion, Amnesty does more in the countries that we don't/won't help. To help ease your ignorance, here's a link to their website: http://www.amnesty.org/ I recommend you look at it before you talk about what you don't know about.
  2. Interesting Editorial from that liberal rag, the NYT Exerpts: Over and over again, the same pattern emerges: Given a choice between following the rules or carving out some unprecedented executive power, the White House always shrugged off the legal constraints. Even when the only challenge was to get required approval from an ever-cooperative Congress, the president and his staff preferred to go it alone. While no one questions the determination of the White House to fight terrorism, the methods this administration has used to do it have been shaped by another, perverse determination: never to consult, never to ask and always to fight against any constraint on the executive branch. One result has been a frayed democratic fabric in a country founded on a constitutional system of checks and balances. Another has been a less effective war on terror. The president’s constant efforts to assert his power to act without consent or consultation has warped the war on terror. The unity and sense of national purpose that followed 9/11 is gone, replaced by suspicion and divisiveness that never needed to emerge. The president had no need to go it alone — everyone wanted to go with him. Both parties in Congress were eager to show they were tough on terrorism. But the obsession with presidential prerogatives created fights where no fights needed to occur and made huge messes out of programs that could have functioned more efficiently within the rules.
  3. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 12:04 PM) Can we please get an official language for this country? Should it be Navajo or Algonquin or Crow or Lakhota? I personally would vote for Lakhota, but that's just me.
  4. Update Beer baron Coors loses license for DUI 52 minutes ago DENVER - Beer baron Peter Coors' driver's license has been revoked by a hearing officer who ruled the executive had been driving under the influence of alcohol, officials said. Hearing officer Scott Garber ruled Friday that Coors did not stop at a stop sign on May 28 and was driving intoxicated. Coors, 59, said he had consumed a beer about 30 minutes before leaving a wedding, the Rocky Mountain News reported Saturday. He faces a July 20 arraignment and has 30 days to appeal the revocation. "I made a mistake. I should have planned ahead for a ride," Coors said in a statement. "For years, I've advocated the responsible use of our company's products." Coors' spokeswoman, Kabira Hatland, said Coors was charged with driving while under the influence. Coors' lawyer, Steve Higgens, did not immediately return a call seeking comment. Hatland said that Coors rolled through a stop sign a block from his home in Golden and that an officer stopped him in his driveway. In one breath test, he registered a blood alcohol level of 0.073 percent. In a second, 20 minutes later, he registered 0.088. In Colorado a blood alcohol count of 0.05 results in a driving while impaired charge, while a count of 0.08 results in driving under the influence. Legal analyst Scott Robinson said drivers with no previous alcohol convictions are usually held to have driven while impaired, rather than the more serious driving while under the influence. A DWI finding can result in a loss of driving privileges for 90 days; DUI can result in suspension for a year. Peter Coors "has never even had a moving violation," said Coors spokeswoman Kabira Hatland. Coors took over as president of his family's company in 1987 and in 2000 was named chief executive of the brewer, with 8,500 employees and $4 billion in sales in 2003. Following a 2005 merger, it is now the Molson Coors Brewing Co.
  5. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:55 PM) It never says English is not allowed, just that it's not chosen. But, of course, you knew that. And still picked this title. Yup. Speaking for myself, I'm very happy that they "demand bi-lingual things be printed up in spanish". Bilingual things printed only in English are kinda confusing. Misleading title changed.

  9. Uh-oh, trees may grow on Antarctica within a century Trees could grow in Antarctica within century: scientist Wed Jul 12, 1:30 PM ET SYDNEY (AFP) - Trees could be growing in the Antarctic within a century because of global warming, an international scientific conference heard. With carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere set to double in the next 100 years, the icy continent could revert to how it looked about 40 million years ago, said Professor Robert Dunbar of Stanford University. "It was warm and there were bushes and there were trees," he told some 850 delegates in the Tasmanian capital Hobart, the national AAP news agency reported. The delegates are attending the combined meetings of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research and the Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs. Dunbar said climate experts were predicting a doubling of the levels of carbon dioxide by 2100, "but it actually looks like it's going to come sooner unfortunately." Scientists blame greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, produced mainly by the burning of fossil fuels such as coal and oil, for causing rising temperatures worldwide. On the plus side, at least that means more oxygen in the atmosphere. . .

    Wisdom Teeth out

I recommend the knock out. Although, as the anesthesiologist (you know what I mean), says you aren't really out. It's more like being in a "20 beer state." And, despite getting dry socket a week or two later, it wasn't that bad for me. I missed no work or school. So, I guess it just all depends on how big of a sissy you are.
  12. Link At Least 20 Dead in Bombay Train Blasts By Associated Press Published July 11, 2006, 9:32 AM CDT BOMBAY, India -- Seven explosions hit Bombay's commuter rail network Tuesday evening during rush hour, ripping apart train compartments, officials said. Police said at least 20 people were killed. Chaos engulfed the crowded rail network in India's financial capital following the blasts, and authorities struggled to determine the number of casualties. Indian television reported the death toll could be in the dozens. News channels broadcast video of the wounded sprawled on train tracks and being carried through stations to ambulances, past twisted and torn train compartments. Witnesses reported seeing bodies parts strewn about stations. Pranay Prabhakar, the spokesman for the Western Railway, confirmed that seven blasts had taken place. He said all trains had been suspended and appealed to the public to stay away from train stations in the city. The blasts appeared to have come in quick succession -- a common tactic employed by Kashmiri militants that have repeatedly targeted India's cities. The first explosion hit the train at a railway station in the northwestern suburb of Khar, said a police officer who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media. India's CNN-IBN television news, which had a reporter traveling on the train, said the blast took place in a first-class car as the train was moving, ripping through the compartment and killing more than a dozen people. Another CNN-IBN reporter said he had seen more than 20 bodies at one Bombay hospital. All of India's major cities were reportedly on high alert following the attacks, which came hours after a series of grenade attacks by Islamic extremists killed eight people in the main city of India's part of Kashmir.
  13. QUOTE(mreye @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) Nobody went to church? You're all going to hell! I did, and I beat all the old people at Bible Trivia. Booya! But, it was an Anglican church so I'm still probably going to hell.

  15. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 04:54 PM) . Fact of the matter is that these Palis are nothing more than a bunch of islamo-fascist savages who will stop at nothing to eliminate Isreal once and for all. Uh-oh, I4E has hacked into Nuke's account!
  16. Happy happy birthday Heads and Tony! And I don't know why you're arguing about Iowa football. Anyway you slice it, any sentence that has "best" and "Iowa" in it is OBVIOUSLY an oxymoron.
  17. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 02:42 PM) Yep yep, time to put her down. Nah, she's a little angel dog. A little wild sometimes, but in general super cute and good. This afternoon she has her "interview" for Doggy Day Care (she'll go once a week to get socialized--and worn out). On a side note, Woohoo at work on the 4th.

    Films

Saw An Inconvienent Truth tonight. Very well done, quite thought provoking, and surprisingly entertaining. I learned and was highly amused in the process. Highly recommended.
  21. Just got back from the movie. It's really good and entertaining. Al Gore is so different in this than he was in 2000 (had he been this relaxed and charming then, he would have won in a landslide). Anyway, the movie was really well done and thought provoking, I do recommend it.
