  1. I was kinda hoping Javy would end the drought.
  2. QUOTE(knightni @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 09:35 PM) I just saw this pic. http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f292/uns...136011341_m.gif Too soon? Oh thats wrong...
  3. Finally some offense damnit. Great job by everyone tonight. HERMY!!!! How did he look?
  4. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 11:16 PM) There has not been a game in his last 7 starts the Sox could/should not have won. Instead, they have lost 5 in a row. It's 3 true quality starts, but he had 1 start with 5.2 IP, 2 ER, his start against the Yanks where he went 5 IP and gave up 2 ER while the umps where completely and thoroughly screwing him, one in which he went 5.1 giving up 3 ER, and one in Minnesota where he went 7 giving up 4 ER. Every one of those games was winnable. The last time Contreras truly had a start like that was August 11th. You tell me who you'd rather have, and who the mental midget is. (fwiw, Contreras also was labeled a mental midget and a no-brain, all-talent pitcher before he led the Sox to a World Series title...just sayin) Vazquez is the mental midget. At least Contreras has showed that he can get the job done. Unlike Vazquez time after time he would unravel. He'd give up the game tying run or go ahead run and next thing you know he'd let the game get out of reach because he can't control himself. This last month for Vazquez will be telling because he's had almost one full season to absorb information from Coop and if he still can't get it together then he needs to go. Lets say he does get another QS and some other decent games then at least he improved. Vazquez has always had the stuff, but he always leaves those breaking balls to get killed and he just can't pitch over mistakes, missed calls or anything else along with most of our rotation this year.
  5. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 11:13 PM) sounds spot on to me. Why the f*** should Anderson be guaranteed anything? He's dead weight in the order and Ozzie's putting him on notice and doing it with confidence in his ability. Poor Brian. Ozzie's picking on him. Boo f***ing hoo. I have no problem with him letting Anderson know the job isn't his, but the fact that he said he needs to be faster?
  6. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 11:04 PM) I agree 100%, there is nothing wrong with Vazquez and his 3.43 ERA in August, his great start to September, and his 2.80 ERA in his last 45 innings. Absolutely nothing at all. Also, there are not reasons as to why Garcia and Contreras aren't pitching like they have in the past. There are excuses, and they are s***ty excuses that keep Brandon McCarthy or even Chuck f'in Haeger out of the rotation. Yeah thats a good ERA in August, but how many quality starts did he have? How many times did he pitch 7 or more innings? He had 2 QS's in August and pitched 7 or more innings 2 times, one was a quality start. You know that an ERA doesn't tell everything. We have 3 really good bullpen guys. They can only pitch so much.
  7. Ozzie is full of crap. It was his crackpot idea to put him in vs. lefties only and now he's b****ing because he needs more AB's. He needs to be faster? What kind of s*** is that? What the hell does he want out of Brian? He's been doing good lately, what more does he want damnit?
  8. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 10:29 PM) I'd like to see Contreras stop pitching like s***. Beggars can't be choosers. I'll take a bad inning from Vazquez every other start rather than a s***ty start from Garcia or Contreras every f***ing time out. Yeah, but there are reasons to why Garcia and Contreras aren't pitching like they have in the past. Garcia lost his FB and Contreras still seems hurt or at least not 100%. We all know what Freddy with his real FB can do and what a 100% Contreras can do. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Vazquez. He is a mental midget. Just because he strings a few good innings together isn't going to make me forget the fact that he can implode start after start. Lets see a few more quality starts from him, then i'll get off his back. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 10:17 PM) Why? We praise slumping hitters for coming through in big games. And it's already been pointed out the Javy been pitching well for a while, now. He's been good since August began. Not this good, but good. How many times have we seen Javy pitch a good game then next time out look like complete s***? Yes he did a good job and it was tough luck he didn't get the win. Lets see what he does his next start.
  9. The best pitcher minus one inning left out that one inning tonight... if that makes sense. Nice to see him do good, but I would like him to do this more often. More realistically, eliminate that one bad inning. We will see, I'm sure as hell not going to praise him for one great outing.
  10. QUOTE(BearSox @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 08:44 PM) Every year before this year, he always acted like the team captian, and lead the team. But when he is finally the team captian, he doesn't act like it. There should have been a team meeting by now. And calling of the team meeting is the team captains job. And what is with his GIDP's? Last year he had like 8 total GIDP's, this year he has over 20 GIDP's. And he has been a big choker and rally killer. Last year he was much better, even though his numbers really don't show it. I am very disappointed in Paulie, and would have expected better from Paulie. Not that I am defending him because he has GIDP a lot this season and lately, but with Thome infront of him it was expected that would go up this year. Today though he just killed us.
  11. Is this a joke? Who is actually 100% on this team now?
  12. Even if its precautionary this still sucks... So now we have Thome, Dye, and Jenks with some problems...
  13. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 10:32 PM) Can we please abolish this thread? It makes me want to barf when I think about this trade. Young/Anderson patrolling LF/C for the next 10 years? Javy isn't going anywhere. Kenny is not gonna dump him after one below average year, not after trading one of the best prospects in baseball. A prospect who's tearing it up right now. Well then he must want crap going every fifth day. He's going to have to forget this trade because if he keeps Vazquez on this team then he'll just be hurting the team more than helping.
  14. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 03:03 AM) Maybe not... or maybe next season he will turn the corner. If he is the same 5 innings and than blow SP next season ill be really dissapointed but I think Vazquez can turn it around next year. There should be no next season for Vazquez he needs to go. Unless from here on out every start he is good, he should not be here next season. Vazquez has been one of the worse things to happen to this team. Also, don't give me the "he has the stuff" BS because he sucks.
  15. Unbelievable. RIP Steve, this came out of nowhere.
  16. Got get them Mark... thats about it. Just get it done.
  17. Very happy to see him on a winning team. Good for the big man.
  18. Personally, I hate Vazquez. Yeah he has a great arm, but he can't do a damn thing with it. He can't pitch over errors, umpire mistakes, or past the 6th inning.
  19. You just can't give any team 6 outs... in addition with crappy pitching.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 07:55 PM) Nice pitch...can't let up with Teahen at the plate. Even though I know he's been doing good since being called up, that seemed funny to me since he was so bad in the beginning of the year.
  21. More news on Radke. http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/...sp&c_id=min Well with him pretty much gone for the season the sox need to distance themselves as much as possible from the Twins. If the sox don't make it then it's because they don't belong there.
  22. Congrats to all of them and hopefully Logan and Haeger perform better than the last time they were here. Can't wait to see Sweeney.
  23. I've been meaning to ask about this... The other day on my way to work I was listening to the score and I think it was mike and mike that pointed out after Riske gave up the homer to Hunter the other day AJ stared at him all the way back to the dugout after being taken out. They said they were going to look into it more, it was most likely nothing, but did anyone else notice that?
  24. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 08:08 PM) I think smallball was pretty exaggerated last year. The Sox used homers to score most of the time. They would have a much better record than last year if the pitching was up to par. This offense has been very consistent. They have scored less than 3 runs only 20 times this year. Its the fewest in the majors. They also have a 58-9 record when getting a quality start. Unfortunately today was a loss, but considering it really doesn't take that outstanding of an effort to get credit for a quality start, the record is staggering. The record with quality starts is great and its obvious if our pitching was better we would be challenging the all time win record, but its not. Another thing that makes me wonder is how much did our dead offense last season affect our pitching? I remember in the beginning of the year a few of our pitchers were glad that we were scoring so many runs and that it relaxed them more since they knew that the offense would come around eventually in a game. Well isn't that kind of like slacking? Considering they thought/think if they give up a few runs its okay? How much does that mentality affect the pitching this year? Even though a lot of our pitching staff has changed, its still a different mentality. Now ofcourse you can't put Freddy in that category considering his FB is 84 mph, he just sucks... and so does Vazquez.
  25. A great day to capitalize on Detroit and they throw it away. Thank you offense GREAT job.
