Mac gone from Mac, Jurko and Harry
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-1...0,5366056.story That's the jist of the article. This sucks major. I love ESPN so much over the Score, but this hurts. First, they took away Carmen and Silvy, which was a tremendous mix (even though I really like Waddel and Silvy) and now they take away Mac from Jurko and Harry. I love Carmen, but he isn't a strong enough personality to take Mac's seat. This bums me out. When I come home from school on my breaks, I always have my radio by me in my house listening to MJH. Gotta let the guy have a final farewell; he helped revive that station and it is a shame they are giving such a shaft.

Huge win for the Bulls. This could be the start of something good. Finally healthy, win against the best team in the league and a great defensive effort against one of the top two offensive players in basketball. This is HUGE. Now let's go and get some more.

And Rose's driving ability is completely opening the floor for Deng and Hinrich to get open looks at threes.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 09:43 PM) say what you want, the Bulls are competing tonite. The Cavs have flat out embarrassed them this year, the Bulls look pretty good tonite Yeah they do. Just don't lay a clunker in OT. Hinrich needs to be in the game right now, Rose is kinda lost with the ball. As good as he is driving to the hoop, his defense and bad ball control is hurting us.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 07:58 PM) lol, the foul that LeBron tried to pin on Nocioni wasnt even close to a foul. i will be the first to admit that Nocioni is rough(read: dirty), but not that time You should know LeBron has never committed a foul in his life and every time he has missed a shot, it was the mistake of the referee because a foul should have been called.

Loved Leiter calling Poreda and Richard little...Both are 6-5+. haha. Leiter definitely kills Larkin in terms on insight into the team.

Official: White Sox sign Colon
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 01:36 PM) So right now, I'd imagine the backend of the rotation is BC and JM, with CR in the pen and AP in AAA. I just can't see Marquez making the rotation. Nothing would seem to indicate that he could have a good enough spring training to make the rotation. Last season he was awful in the minors and pitched poorly in Arizona. I would much rather Richard in the rotation than Marquez. I just don't understand why people think he could start adequately in the majors -- a place he has never pitched. At least Richard dominated the minors last year and pitched well in the playoffs.

Crazy Ass Email of the day.
Wow. Congrats. You're a rich man! Lol.

Official: White Sox sign Colon
If you sign Colon and Freddy to compete with Marquez and Richard, one would have to emerge as a solid #4 starter. If so, you can live with a so-so 5 starter while Poreda gets ready or KW looks for a trade. With a solid 4, we are in the division hunt even with a weak 5. These signings can't hurt, especially if cheap. I hope we get Freddy and the Cuban, then we will have some good competition for the last two spots.

Really funny story about Missouri basketball player Miguel Paul. He is a distant cousin of Chris and claims to have met Chris before, but Chris doesn't ever remember such a meeting. http://deadspin.com/5130695/chris-pauls-co...his-family-tree Funny thing was I copy edited this story in the Missourian.

The Dark Knight
QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 04:07 PM) The thing is... It's not the same experience watching it at home on a DVD that it is in a theater on a monster screen. Cloverfield is the same way. Yeah I definitely agree. For me there are two ways to rate movies: sheer entertainment and amazing writing/acting/directing/etc. For me while the Dark Knight was not a masterpiece in terms of the latter (though Heath was awesome), it entertained me as much as any movie I have seen in my life. The 2.5 hours went by so fast and I was glued to the screen the entire time. To me DK was the entertaining awesome and No Country was the writing/acting/directing awesome. Loved both, but for different reasons.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 05:48 PM) Deng and Hinrich both returning for the Bulls tonight per 670. Could they also return to their 06-07 form? Our excess of mediocre players grows by two more. If Hinrich can get back on track though, he can be a solid third guard, so I am hopeful that he can be a factor. He brings defense and toughness, which we have very little of. Deng, unfortuntaely, seems like a lost cause, I really don't know what his deal is anymore.

White Sox get Ryan Braun
http://www.google.com/hostednews/canadianp...X3H2CrfswTOp4oA The pitcher - and invite 17 others - to Spring Training. Was this in poor taste? Yes. But we are news deprived here and thought it would be funny. Mods feel feel to make the title more accurate if necessary.

Henderson and Rice make Hall
I really can't wait till frank is on the ballot, that will be awesome. I will have to try and make to his ceremony. Shame though Bert didn't get in and Rock got so few votes. And who didn't vote for Ricky? He was the best leadoff hitter ever!

Surprise!... Hamas Supporters Use Children as Human Shields
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 10:08 AM) There is almost no difference between the two of them at this point. They are both way in the wrong. I sort of agree, but there is only so much you take in Israel's case. They get fired upon every day by the terrorists from Hamas and at some point you break and don't take it anymore and go on the offensive. It takes one terrorist attack against the US to go on a major military offensive, but when it takes hundreds of attacks on Israel to get them to go on a major offensive, we criticize, makes no sense to me.

Update on the two recent Cuban defectors
http://www.newsday.com/sports/ny-spcuba111...0,4065293.story Same agent as Jose, Alexei and Dayan. Worth a shot I guess, shouldn't cost that much and we've had great success with Cubans before. Was too lazy to find the old thread. But they have made progress and should be on ML teams this year. Similar to the quotes about Dayan. Sox have to be the favorites with a competitive offer... PS: There is a video interview with the two to the right side.

Sox close to signing 2 pitchers??
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 10, 2009 -> 09:37 PM) The Red Sox are making some very interesting moves....throwing lots of darts against the wall with Penny, Saito, Kotsay and Baldelli and hoping at least two of them stick. High reward, fairly low risk moves for a team with a huge budget. I don't know, but I think even if you add in Smoltz, you might have all five of those players for the same price as Tex, Burnett or CC over one season. They've definitely shifted from the JD Drew/Dice-K big price tag FA's and are looking at developing talent internally or on the cheap signings like KW and the White Sox have been famous for. A couple of head scratchers...the middle infielders like Punto, Miles and Felipe Lopez signing for relatively big numbers compared to the recent deals we've seen the past week or so. While the Red Sox are a big market team with a huge payroll, they tend to spend their money smart and use a lot in the draft and in the international market. While they paid a huge contract for Dice-K, it was a worthwhile gamble because Asian pitchers are generally successful for a couple years in the Majors and he was the best over there. The best position player in Japan came to America and is a HOF player (Ichiro) so they figured the same success for the league's top pitcher. They have really smart people running that organization unlike the Yankees.

Sox close to signing 2 pitchers??
I would like to sign Dunn to a one-year deal at maybe $12 million. I don't think he will be able to get the long-term deal this off-season, so maybe he would sign a one-year deal. Then you can trade Dye for some pitching help. But I can guarantee you that the Sox will be making moves and while waiting is frustrating for fans, it is smart. The rest of the FAs are going to sign for cheap and KW will be able to get some good bargains.

Video Game Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jan 10, 2009 -> 09:33 PM) I played the demo, and had fun, but had little to no idea what I was doing. I'm basically looking for a sports game to hold me over until MLB the show 2009. If you enjoy hockey it will, but as you said you are much of a hockey guy, so that could be questionable. But if you enjoyed the demo, then you will probably enjoy having the game. One thing I did that is kinda fun, create yourself in a dynasty mode and put him on the Hawks (or other favorite team) and play with him. For me this made it a tad more fun.

Video Game Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jan 10, 2009 -> 09:25 PM) Not much of a hockey guy, but thinking about getting NHL 09. Being a guy who's kind of a neanderthal when it comes to hockey, would it be worth it for me (I want to learn!)? I got it about three weeks ago. I think as a hockey game, its awesome. I mean everything is so realistic and it's a generally fun game. However, beyond the game playing, there is not much else to offer IMO. The Be-a-Pro mode is fun for awhile but gets kinda boring. You can work you're way up to your NHL team's first line pretty quickly, so that lost my interest somewhat. The dynasty mode is deep, but hockey isn't built as much for dynasties in my opinion as the other sports. It's not that expensive of a game anymore and definitely fun to play, so I would recommend it, but if you looking for an NCAA 09 type game, that it is not, in that the dynasty mode in NCAA enthralls me.

How many second basemen do we need?
Any rumor for a middle infielder I know is bogus. With all the players we have and Hudson out there, it makes no sense to trade someone valuable.
