  1. That new AJ commercial is horrible, worst one yet. Plus, the runner going to first after the bunt looks like Willie Harris, but I know it ain't AJ.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 06:15 PM) So Ozuna will remain on the roster for at least a bit? Or are they going to call someone else up since Jenks will be on his way to the DL? I know Loaiza was going to have some side-sessions, is he going to be the new guy up? I sure hope not, he was having trouble retiring AAA hitters.
  3. Then why the hell did we DFA Ozuna? Stupid move by the Sox, we don't need another reliever up here.
  4. According to MLB.com, Dye remains a close second behind Longoria after 48 hours of balloting. Let's go people, let's vote more and more, no way in hell a Ray is gonna beat someone from Chicago.

The good news here is that Jenks doesn't need to go to the DL or I assume he doesn't because they would not have needed to DFA pablo if Jenks went to the DL.
  6. If you could get Kemp for OC, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Your suddenly improve your OF situation immensely with a kid who will be your CF for the next 10 years. Then, I'd move Alexei to SS and bring up Getz for 2b or even Richar. It would be hard to move OC, but for the future it makes us so much better and even this year, I don't think you'd lose that much. but would the dodgers trade for a FA-to-be? Order CF Kemp C AJ LF Q RF Dye DH Konerko (or Thome) 1b Swish 3B Crede SS Alexei 2b Getz (or Richar) That lineup is not much worse, it's worse and your D is gonna suffer but for the future it's very good. But again, would you want to sacrifice maybe a little this year for something pretty good in the future?
  7. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 10:11 PM) ISU reportedly the favorite for '09 #1 JUCO (per Scout) *****QB Darius Reynolds. http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=171&f=2549&t=2642511 Heads since I know you got the pulse of Iowa sports (all of it) what's the word with '10 hooper Harrison Barnes. I know everyone is/will be after the kid, but will he stay in-state to be a Cyclone or Hawkeye or venture outside? What you hearing if anything?
  8. Let's go Papelbon!!
  9. QUOTE (TCQ @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) Agreed except i wouldnt have floyd second. He has been too up and down so id go for more consistancy with contreras or vazquez if his last start was an indication of him cleaning his act up so like mine
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) All he achieved was to try to ruin a very neat opportunity for the fans. Stuff like this makes Ozzie less likely to interact honestly with the fans. I think you hit the nail on the head.
  11. For me it would depend on who is hot close to when the playoffs start assuming Ozzie could schedule the rotation because the division is locked up. If the playoffs started today we would face Tampa Bay, a good bunting and running team with solid lefties. For me Mark Buehrle would start game 1 because he is pitching well and can control their running game, as well, get out Crawford, Pena, Akimora (sp?) and play solid D because of their tendency to bunt and hit soft grounders. Next I would start Vaz, he is experienced and although he sucks in big games and gets beat by the long ball, he has pitched very well against TB and also fields well on the mound and has a good pickoff move for a righty. Then, I go with Danks who is just a stud, but I would want him third behind a righty who can go deep in games. Next, Floyd, his stuff is filthy and to me he is a better option than Contreras who would get flustered by the running game of TB even though he pitched well against the Rays earlier this year. So in conclusion. Game 1: MB Game 2: Vaz Game 3: Danks Game 4: Floyd (right now, but if Contreras is pitching well toward the playoffs, I'd prolly go with him, the game 4 is a coin-flip for me)
  12. I am voting at work, it would be a great shame if JD didn't get in. Any news on how they will determine Ortiz's replacement, maybe the second place guy from the final ballot?
  13. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 02:34 AM) Um, Brent Morel 5-6. Thats awesome. Also, 7 SBs to 0 CSs. 6 BBs to 7 Ks. Very good numbers, would like to see a bit more power from him down in rookie ball, but an .847 OPS is solid. Two more weeks of this and he'll probably be given a Kanny assignment and skip GF.
  14. Javy now in ridiculous mode. Keep it up!
  15. Uribe is gonna have a good game, this is the type of pitcher he can hit.
  16. Javy in locked-in mode right now. Holy heck!!
  17. This series is seriously tilted in our favor. Pitching is about equal, but because we are at home and a team that hits homeruns, we have a BIG advantage. i think 3/4 is what we should get from this weekend. if this was in Oakland, I would feel the exact opposite with them having the big advantage being a more gap to gap hitting team. PS over/under for how many hits this weekend from Emil Brown. I say 6 is the bar.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 05:56 PM) Keep this in mind....if the game is called tonight, C.C. would face the Twins. Which brings me back to my original post, this was part of it, but I forgot to add it Now, i am bored and want baseball, boo my original post.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 01:21 PM) Doesn't Cleveland have to face that Contreras fellow? When he's on he's as nasty as any pitcher in baseball. It's time to stop being afraid of other teams' pitchers or hitters and realize...the rest of the league should have a hell of a lot to fear from us. John Danks shouldn't fear Cliff Lee and Rich Harden, Rich Harden and Cliff Lee should fear John Danks. The Sox shouldn't fear Captain Cheeseburger, Captain Cheeseburger should be afraid that his hot streak is running in to Swisher's Slam streak. And Q's just better than them all anyway. I realize this, but Sabathia is pitching better than anyone in baseball. Contreras has not been pitching that well his last 4 starts, an 8.60 ERA in those last four. Sabathia has a 1.13 ERA his last four starts, so the pitching matchup is slanted much toward Cleveland. I realize Danks is a different case because he is actually pitching well, but Contreras has been garbage his last few times out while Sabathia has been dominant.
  20. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 12:52 PM) No. We have momentum. It would suck having two days off in a row. It could also be very beneficial though, especially with some very close games against Oakland due to their phenomenal pitching, I think having an off-day would keep our pen fresh and hopefully allow Bobby to be ready for 2 or 3 games this weekend.
  21. I am really hoping for a rainout tonight, which is probably the first time I have ever wished for one. Why? C.C. Sabathia against Jose Contreras is not a good matchup for us and even though we have the six game winstreak, I would rather make this game up with the Indians when they either don't have Sabathia or we probably don't have to face him in the makeup game. Am I wrong to think this? Is anyone else hoping for the rainout?
  22. Without looking at anyone else's here is my take: Quentin - no doubt, will get in and should = 100% Dye - no doubt, should get in, but it might be tough with lots of AL outfielders having good years and the chance of him being bypassed for a bigger name = 50% Danks - again, should be in no question, should have 10 wins, but it will close - 65% Crede - offensively has solid numbers, defensive reputation is great, although he has played subpar this year. Francona knows his name - 65 % Linebrink - numbers wise yes, but usually only closers make the game and he doesn't have overly impressive peripherals to garner all-star consideration - 5% Jenks - numbers are great and great rep, but tough draw in AL with Papelbon, MO, Nathan, K-Rod. = 50%Z AJ - solid year, big name and good shot at being picked after Mauer - 50% Floyd - no because his numbers are not amazing and not a great reputation. I say the Sox will get 4: Dye, Quentin, Danks and then one of Jenks/AJ/Crede. as well, one left out will be in the final ballott.
  23. According to the Trib, the Sox are gonna give one more effort to sign Kyle Long. Some Sox brass are going to visit him, which is definitely a good sign, I don't think the Sox would do this if they had 0 shot to sign him. Like someone said, the Long's must still have the door open pending on the bonus money.
  24. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 10:48 AM) some weird things to note team is 16-9 over the last 25 since the Rays series - .640 ball - but it seems as though we're choking the division away because the Tigers are a ridiculous 17-4 over their last 21 and the twins are 14-3 over their last 17... Thank god they play each other 7 times over the next 13 - SOMEBODY has to lose. True, but someone has to win too. I would hope the Twins beat up on the Tigers and lose to their other opponents. Much more afraid of the Tigers than Twins even though they are closer in the standings.
  25. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 09:53 AM) I think Getz is a very valuable guy. can play a bunch of positions, including the outfield. And he will do it at bargain basement prices for the next three years. That's important. With the reasonable amount we'll be paying Ramirez and potentially Getz, that gives more payroll flexibility to replace Thome next season with either a new DH or a right fielder so Jermaine can DH or play 1b as Paulie moves to DH. guys who can hit close to .300, play multiple spots and get paid league minimum are valuable,. And who knows, he could win the 2B job. Any word on how good he is in the field? Makes all the plays, solid arm that played well enough to be a SS in college. He doesn't have the arm strength to be an everyday SS, but can play there if needed, same with third prolly, but best suited at second. Based on everything I have read, the guy is scrappy, grinder, ball player who you can use anywhere in the field because he is smart and knows how to play. IMO, he replaces one of Ozuna or Uribe next year, I really like the kid. Walks equal Ks and hits consistently around .300.
