  1. QUOTE(beck72 @ Dec 1, 2007 -> 09:39 AM) The sox could use a few of those arms as part of a trade. Another name I'd watch for in a trade would be Oneli Perez, who's doing very well in winter ball. He's an extreme FB pitcher yet posted great numbers in AA as the closer there. Perez is beastly and apparently he has an extra finger on each hand ala Alfonseca. http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/roc...eball_talk.html He has insane numbers everywhere he goes, so you gotta believe he will be with the Sox this year at some point, maybe even to start the year.
  2. I could only see the Sox taking someone and then trading that player to another team for cash.
  3. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 11:39 PM) Yeah Ellington came with him, although he's a head case, was a Iowa State verbal, then Iowa, now Illinois. Anyways, if back to back 6-6 regular seasons weren't proof, the fact that Iowa can't cross the border and get players anymore is a MAJOR red flag for the football program. On the flip side, this class is going to be something special for Zook and the boys come signing day, they are actually going to have to turn down a few pretty damn good prospects because they simply don't have room. Unfortunately though, I think the Jason Ford switch is a sign that the program is aware the likelihood of Rashard Mendenhall coming back is low. I dont necessary think they are related. The Illini wanted 2-3 RBs in the class anyways, and since Hodge was going to prep school for a year, they wanted to cover their bases and get two more prospects. And from Day1, there top two guys were Leshoure and Ford; this was before the season when Rashard was still just a developing prospect. I actually am in the minority, but I think Rashard will come back in hopes of officially turning around Illinois by going for a double-digit regular season victory total. We shall see tho.
  4. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 12:45 AM) People are starting to notice Jack. It is clear to me that Eggy has the "it" factor--that undefinable characteristic that allows athletes to succeed. I would hope he would be given a serious shot at a rotation spot this year. I think of all the guys we got going for the 4/5 spot, Egbert could produce the best numbers, not only like the article said with his great change-up, but also he is just a gamer who seems to have the mental edge that many Sox prospects lack. I would love to Eggy in a Sox uniform next year.
  5. If this is true, then it goes against everything the Sox (KW and JR) have been saying. If you are serious about building a championship team, like they say, you are going to have to pay people, simple as that. Since the Sox have one of the worst farm systems in baseball, we can't build from within, thus we must go out and sign free agents. And unfortunately, good free agents cost money, but it pisses me off the Sox never go out and get the big fish.
  6. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 10:48 PM) Don't get too excited about the Ferentz/Michigan rumors. The rumors started on mgblog and were stated as just that, rumors. The blog theorized that Michigan had or would offer the job to Ferentz and that he would decline, not accept, out of loyalty to Iowa. For those that don't know, Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman hired Ferentz at Iowa so there is a connection there. Rumors started to fly everywhere over the weekend, all reverting back to this one blog. An Iowa TV station even jumped into the fray last week, still with no more substantial sources than this blog and chatter surrounding the sources. The TV station even credited the mgoblog as its source. So folks we have one big circular reference here. The problem with this is, in no way do I believe that Michigan pulls an Alabama/Rodriguez and offers the job to someone who doesn't take it. There will only be one offer and that is the one that is accepted. Until then there very likely will be feelers such as "if offered the job, will you take it" either directly to the coach or more likely to his intermediaries/agent. Think of the movie The Firm, when Tom Cruise stepped into his initial interview with the firm. Tom was told they had an offer for him in a sealed envelope and that any lawyer worth the offer could tell them what was in it without opening it. Michigan doesn't have to make the offer without knowing what the answer will be. Ferentz is being considered and there is a faction inside Michigan that thinks he can carry the program with the values it expects. All that said, if I am a betting man, I am still betting on Miles getting the job. I'll say it's 68% Miles right now. haha, was 70% or 75% just a bit too much? Lol.
  7. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 11:13 PM) Illinois football steals Iowa's top commit. Yeah, Jason Ford. First, he committed, then he became a soft committ, then apparently re-comitted firmly a couple weeks ago and now de-committs and comitts to Illinois. Kinda odd...But he has got all the measureables you want from an elite back. Big (6 foot,) strong (215 lbs.) and fast (4.40 speed.) I think that and his gaudy numbers should make him a 4-star prospect, but he is a high 3. I will take him, he is gonna be good.
  8. Next week is gonna be a hard fought game between OU and Mizzou. The key for Mizzou is getting pressure on Bradford, last time he had all day in the pocket; change that and mizzou will win. Also, no turnovers, but Chase is in the zone right now, so I am not real worried about him, just the D against OU's explosive O.
  9. #1!!!!Hopefully, we jump West Virginia. But man is Chase Daniel amazing. But give some credit to Reesing, he is a gamer and gonna be a good one for two more years. Just made a couple of mistakes, but I will take Chase Daniel as my QB anyday, but Reesing is close as second.
  10. What is the deal with Havlat? How much longer is he going to be out for? I saw he was hoping to come back this week, but that never happened.
  11. I fully expect Jerry Owens to break Thome's record for lefties, possibly as early as this year.
  12. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 24, 2007 -> 02:17 PM) Ya. They will have to give up there 2nd and 3rd round picks if they sign Rowand though. I really don't care if they give up their 2nd and 3rd round picks for added talent this year. Maybe cause they can save money with the draft by not having a second or third, they can acutally take the best player available with the eighth pick. I would love Melville, the HS pitcher from Missouri. He is the clear top talent in the high school class and probably will command the most money out of all the potential draftees.
  13. I have never seen him play, don't really know that much about him, but from what I have read and what I have seen from his stats, he could be a very good utility player. He can play CF, 2b, probably athletic enough to play 3b and SS in a pinch. To me his stats and versitility make him look a lot like Willie Harris. If he brings that type of energy too, that is just a bonus. I think he would be a very good bench player for us to go along with Ozuna, and probably Owens. If the Sox go with 11 pitchers, then all that is missing is a power hitting bench option. I just fear that the Sox don't want Ozuna and Bourgeois both on the bench.
  14. Isn't Van Dyck wrong here? Don't the Sox only give up their second round, but Milwaukee will get a supplemental pick in addition to ours?
  15. QUOTE(scenario @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 10:39 AM) Is there any confirmation of this anywhere except rotowire? If anyone has seen it, please post it. I think it was in the Trib a day ago.
  16. Guys, we needed bullpen help and we got the best set-up man available. Its less than $5 million per season, so its not like it takes a huge hit to our payroll. Everyone here wanted KW to fix the pen and he is doing that. If anyone here is pissed at this signing, then you guys really want to see another disaster in the pen like last year. The price for everything is going up in baseball, this deal is very reasonable for getting a proven set-up guy. There are not many proven relievers out there that put up solid numbers every year, but Linebrink is that guy. Be happy KW saw the problem and tried to fix it. We are, and every other major league team, are going to have to overpay to get players, so why not? It will not take a toll on our future that much and some of our younger guys can only benefit from being a teammate of one of baseball's best relievers.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 04:57 PM) With rumors floating around that Hunter is meeting with Texas brass tonight, this could very well be a story planted to make it look like we were going to get him if not for some ridiculous Texas offer. you make a good point, but hopefully, Torri will see the Sox as a better opportunity to win and a more comfortbale atmosphere. But, lots of teams have used members of the media to drive up bidding prices, make their team look good when they don't sign players, like right here. Hopefully, the source was sincere in believing a deal could be reached this week.
  18. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 17, 2007 -> 12:45 PM) Shootout in Manhattan so far, 21-15 Missouri. Fixed.
  19. Sad to see Oregon lose that way because of Dixon's injury, but Mizzou now controls it own fate. It's a nice feeling.
  20. Would not mind bringing back Iguchi, but I think the Sox seem set with Richar. All I know is we will have the worst combined OBP of middle infielders in the majors.
  21. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 10, 2007 -> 11:23 PM) I don't see how you can't include Reesing in the discussion. As much as I hate Kansas, Heads is right. Is numbers are as good, if not better than Chase's and team is still undefeated.
  22. I disagree with part of his rankings. One, Carter should be a four-star prospect. He has been young for every level at his age, has tremendous power (star-level power) and a solid eye at the plate. Not to mention, he can be a pretty good first baseman defensively. I think Carter is underrated. I would also bump Eggy to a three-star, though he does have the best stuff, some guys just know how to get it done and he does. That should at least count for something.
  23. I just have a sick feeling that we will be signing all bargain players that KW thinks could be big rewards for us. Let's be honest this team NEEDS a Torii Hunter in CF (or Rowand) and another impact bat in the lineup to be above average. Not to menton one more starter and a s*** load in the pen, with all these areas needing improvement, I can only see KW going the bargain route.
  24. If you just drove to the lane, you would likely get fouled once and hopefully you could make a free throw or two.
  25. WOO HOO, Mizzou will be #7 this week.
