  1. Don't blow this game, please. SAC has the last shot of the game--not good.
  2. Ben looking solid up to 24 pts and 7 assists.
  3. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 08:17 PM) Tyson might get 20+ rebounds tonight if he stays out of foul trouble. Too bad, 3 fouls and 10 rebounds with 6 minutes left in the 2nd.

  6. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 08:59 AM) I would agree at least 100%. The funny thing is that I majored in econ and had no interest in broadcasting as a career. I just got lucky and was attached to an incredible HS hoops team (almost a modern day Milan, for IN HS basketball fans) combined with our college radio station being simulcast over one of the cable TV stations in town which meant a bunch of people heard my calls of games. At the college level take advantage of every chance to connect with people from other stations. Talk to anyone and everyone before, during, and after games... coaches, players, other broadcasters, interested parents etc. You never know who knows someone, and it is all about being connected. Talent is nice and all, but a lot of people have talent. Getting off the ground is rough in sportscasting, I won't lie to you. But you control for the most part how far you can go. You can be involved, make connections, get lots of practice etc. Thanks for the advice. I would agree that getting your foot in the door is damn hard.
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 08:31 AM) Good luck with that... That job route is a b****. I broadcast basketball and football for 3 years in college and got many job offers, but they were all for minimum wage in small towns. The only big town offer I got was for an entry level engineer position with a chance to fill in some shows to work into broadcasting. Its rough. Any suggestions as far as internships and stuff that could helpful. Also, did you want to get play-by-play jobs or sports radio jobs, or both? Everyone I have talked about sports broadcasting says you need to know someone or get extremely lucky and that talent a lot of times won't win out. Are these statements true?

QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 08:42 PM) i loved the Ernest movies....they were great. I love Jim Varney. My favorite Earnest movies were Earnest goes to Camp and Earnest goes to Jail.

  10. Here's a good list of the best journalism schools. The list doesn't change that often and its from Wisconsin-Madison's journalism website. http://www.theihs.org/libertyguide/subcate...tml?menuid=2#jo Gourman Report 10th Ed. 1998 Top Journalism and Mass Communications Programs 1.University of Missouri-Columbia 2. 11. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 08:15 PM) http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/m...-0402_brief.php Mizzou is not on that list but I am definitely going to check it out. For some reason my browser says there are errors and I can't see the list. Would any mind posting it for me? Much appreciated.
  12. That was funny, does anyone have the link of the parents taping there kids watching the ghost in the commercial thing?
  13. I think Mizzou is the best journalism school in the country along with Northwestern. That is probably journalism combined, so for broadcast others might be better. I am also trying to pick a school. So my list is: 1. Mizzou (got in + lots of $$) 1. Northwestern (will hear in mid-march) 3. Wisconsin (got in) 4. Illinois (got in, my favorite school by far for sports, too) 5. Syracuse (will hear in mid-march) 6. Indiana (got in) I want to be a sports broadcaster. Ideally, a play-by-play announcer, which I have been doing for four years in high school. But, I realize it is nearly impossible to get play-by-play jobs, so I will settle for sports talk show host or sports writer. For those reasons, Mizzou and NU are my top choices. My parents want me to choose Mizzou, wonder why? But, I will make that decision when I hear from Northwestern. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  14. Is it okay to ask why he was banned? And if it is, why was he banned? Just curiosity, but completely understandable if it can not be disclosed.
  15. QUOTE($I Need Money$ @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 12:17 AM) Great. the believe the bulls are now 7 games under .500 right? How bout those Blackhawks? Only 6 games under at 22-28. The playoffs are still there.
  16. I hope Borch makes the Sox roster, but if not I'd like to see him go back to football, if he thinks he can have a career there.
  17. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 12:23 AM) Anybody read the Leonard Pope interview on the front page of NFLDraftCountdown? He says he's up to 260 now. This dude is gonna be a monster. I pray we get him. And he says he runs a 4.5-4.6 40 yard dash. That is insane for a dude that big.
  18. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 07:50 PM) How fast does he throw? 2003 Season Confidence and health again were problems for Armando Almanza, whose raw stuff alone would rank him among the game's top lefthanded relievers. Almanza struggled to command his curveball, lost a couple of games on late home runs and had been relegated to mopup duty when elbow pain ended his season in late August. He underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove bone spurs and did not make the playoff roster. Pitching, Defense & HittingWhen he's on, Almanza can overpower hitters with a live fastball between 92-96 MPH. He always has been a flyball pitcher, and that can get him in trouble when his stuff tails off. His slow curve upsets hitters when he can throw it for strikes. When he can't, they lay off it or pound it for hits. Almanza has a thick frame but is a decent fielder who holds runners well. He rarely bats. 2004 Outlook Eligible for arbitration, Almanza could become an expensive luxury for a team with severe payroll problems. If he's not non-tendered, he could be moved in a deal for middling prospects. He should be healthy by spring training, when he'll need to reestablish himself as a top situational lefty. From ESPN.com's profile.
  19. In the piece, they show some SoxFest scenes and my dad and I were right in there. You could only see my dad because I was hidden by someone else, but I knew I was there.
  20. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 08:53 PM) 40-35 Duke at the half in Chapel Hill. I think NC is going to take this one. The slow start they had hurt them, but I except them to come out and play solid in the second and hopefully hand Duke their second loss of the year.
  21. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 10:28 PM) good, i hope they can salvage this game. Has Deron Williams played much? Hurt himself in warmups. Also, when I heard Duhan was out, I immediately thought trade for Drew Gooden, but then I heard he had hurt his foot yesterday in practice.
  22. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 10:26 PM) Time for the game to be decided with the hands and arms of Ben Gordon. And he answers!!!
  23. Time for the game to be decided with the hands and arms of Ben Gordon.
  24. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 10:23 PM) LMAO, COmcast has a blackout in the last minute of a 4 point game. That is SOOOOO comcast. It's comcastic!!!
  25. Scheyer is a good player, but in the Central Suburban North, let's be honest he is playing against crap competition--I would know I live around there. Conley defense and Oden's inside presence will give Scheyer fits. I think Scheyer is going to be a solid player at Duke--not for two years thought, but certainly, he is no J.J. Reddick, which some intoxicated Duke fans believe.
