  1. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 01:43 PM) I wouldn't exactly agree 100% with that. Orton still has a lot to prove this season IMO. And Rosenfals has looked pretty good over the past couple of seasons when he's had a chance to play. Really? I'm by no means an Orton supporter, but I'd rather have Kyle than Sage Rosenfels. You're definitely right about Orton though definitely has a lot to prove. He's not going to be an above average QB unless he improves the accuracy on his throws and gets a better feel for moving around in the pocket (which ultimately led to the undoing of my beloved). Orton 4 years younger -- had no receivers -- didn't throw many picks last year (12 in 465 attempts). Rosenfels is 30, he did throw with 66% accuracy, but also threw ten picks in 142 attempts. You can't ignore the fact that Rosenfels had Slaton, the best receiver in the league, and a secondary receiver better than any of our receivers. I'd rather have Sage Rosenfels than Tavaris Jackson, but only as a short term option. If Denver had to choose between Rosenfels and Orton... I would be a little shocked if they chose Rosenfels.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 12:16 PM) I honestly don't think either team is in a good position to trade for Cutler. Unless McDaniels views Orton/Rosenfels as a viable replacement, neither side has a chance. If all Denver would be looking for is draft picks, then it is a completely different story obviously. Well I was comparing the Vikes and Bears, I think that Denver would rather have Orton than Rosenfels... but of course they probably dont want either of them. If the Vikes get Cutler, its not going to be a fun ten years.
  3. Minnesota interested in obtaining Cutler. If they do, they'd have to be considered favorites to win the NFC. The Bears are in a better position to make a deal for Cutler than Minnesota, Jerry Angelo... your career is on the clock.
  4. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 06:34 PM) Lets see how "spoiled" we are when the Hawks lose Keith to free agency because Carrot top is making 7.1 a season. Keith isn't a FA for two more years... Dale (or whoever replaces Dale) will need to readjust accordingly. The real clunker was signing Huet, who will be here for three more years, soak up 4mil per, and provide the team with average goaltending.
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 07:37 PM) I do understand that it starts at the QB and I do understand he's a proven talent, but what has he done? Sure, his defense was awful, but it didn't help that in the last 3 weeks of the year he threw 2 TD's and 4 INT's. I'd love to get him...but I'm not about to trade our 1st and 3rd this year and a 3rd next year for him. He's a proven talent -- but what has he done? If he's a proven talent -- hasn't he already done something? People are willing to make that trade... because he's a transcendent player and the most important position in sports. He's 26... yah you might not win the superbowl this year, but you can improve the OL and WR in the future. Opportunities like this rarely come along in the NFL... why? because QB's this good and this young basically never are available. If your the bears -- a team that has had 1 good QB season in the last 20+ years -- you take a guy like Jay Cutler regardless of what you have surrounding him. Jay Cutler becomes step 1 in the plan step 2 is to surround him with the talent. If we wait until we have a good WR and OL... were not going to get a guy like Jay Cutler, we'd have to instead hope that Orton pans out or that we find one in the draft or FA... neither plans have worked for the last 25 years. If you can't understand that --- then we will have to agree to disagree.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 07:09 PM) Blago scores 6 figure book deal. Lets hope Blago = Canseco and we get some Mitchell report type s*** going. I hope he fairly names those who are similarly guilty and they are forced to defend themselves for their part in the corruption that takes place here daily. I wonder what he will say about RJD.
  7. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 07:02 PM) Happy Birthday, late. Don't worry at least its still the right day. I keeping tabs... I'm going to pour Champagne for real friends... and Real Pain for my sham friends.
  8. QUOTE (Texsox @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 03:37 PM) There are no quotas, but there is an innate sense of fairness, and an almost universal desire for the government to reflect the face of America. We are in agreement on this point; however, that desire cannot come at the price of integrity and competence. Any appointee who Blago appointed was tainted -- and the fact that Durbin and other Senators didn't proceed accordingly partly on the basis of race - is categorically wrong -- just as if they decided to investigate partly because he was black. Burris should have been investigated and possibly impeached because of the circumstances of his appointment -- not the color of his skin. This stuff is too important, there is too much at stake, we're too developed of a nation to allow such ridiculousness to persist. If Lt. Quinn nominated Roland Burris and took race into consideration on top of the fact that he a qualified candidate, I would hope that race wasn't the sole factor and accept that the Governor made an executive decision. This, however, wasn't the case.
  9. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 03:25 PM) If you get Orton Marshall and Royal, he probably has identical stats to Cutler. Watch both of them play, and reconsider this statement. Orton can't throw the ball nearly as hard nor as accurate as Cutler. Plus Denver basically threw the ball every down last year because they lost all of their RB's Orton had the benefit of defense's having to respect Forte, and that only a few defenses actually respected the bears passing game. If Orton was in Cutler's shoes... he would have had a lot more INT's
  10. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) The Cutler thing seems to have deeper roots than it may appear. Some reports are saying that Cutler has been unhappy that the Broncos got rid of his qb coach and the head coach. With the way everything has blown up, the new Denver coaching staff may need to get rid of Cutler just so that it doesnt have a power struggle on its hands. Josh McDaniels is 32 years old and has worked exclusively with the Patriots (biggest reason imo he wanted Cassel). He basically has no head coaching experience and has no real playing experience. Cutler is 26 (only 6 years younger than McDaniels), if he already has a problem with McDaniels, it could spell disaster for the Broncos. At this point the Broncos may seriously have to consider trading Cutler if there is going to be a problem between him and McDaniels. McDaniels is to inexperienced to try and deal with this type of controversy in his first season, and it probably would be best for all parties if his first QB, is one of his guys. Its clear that he wanted Cassel because he felt comfortable with him. I sure hope you're right. And if so... Jerry Angelo should back up his promise to "solidify" the QB position. Jerry Angelo could single handedly establish his legacy if he could bring a guy like Cutler to be his QB and gave him the weapons to succeed. No other GM in recent Bears History (that I can remember) has been able to bring a franchise QB to this team.
  11. im really happy that im not crazy... i thought i somehow missed this thread. I'm getting old.
  12. I didnt see this anywhere else, however from Cowley's Twitter: "cst_sox: Being reported that Orlando Cabrera signed a one-year, $4 million contract with Oakland. Sox get two picks as compensation"
  13. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 01:33 PM) Getting Cutler makes sense.......therefore it is guaranteed to not happen. QB's make WR's better....WR's really can't do much for a QB if the QB sucks. I don't think it will happen because Denver will wisen up, like the Phoenix Suns with Amare, and realize that they're not going to get the kind of return necessary to justify sending Cutler out of town. Denver wanted Matt Cassel because they thought he was better suited for their offense, there isnt another Matt Cassel available and they would be absolutely insane to trade Cutler without another stellar QB to replace him with. They will kiss and make up because its the best football move they can make given the circumstances.
  14. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 01:32 PM) Again, I don't care what anyone says...until you improve the WR & O-Line situation it won't matter. I'm not saying Cutler would look like Orton back there, but he sure wouldn't be the same QB he was in Denver. You don't even have to improve the situations dramatically IMO. But very few QB's would be able to do well in this current situation. We're not going to be Superbowl contenders tomorrow if Jay Cutler arrives... but we'd be significantly closer. He would instantly become the best QB in the division and would make other defenses respect our passing game, and open up our running game. and you're right, few QB's would be able to do well here... but Jay Cutler has the skills to be one of those QB's.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 01:21 PM) Except that Obama was up in the polls even before that came out (albeit by small margins). This is really all besides the point. Obama was elected by a strong majority of Illinois voters because they felt he was the man for the job. Appointing and Accepting Roland Burris because he is black (even if it played the smallest role) goes against this principal. There are no quotas in government, nor should their be -- even if Bobby Rush says otherwise.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 11:06 AM) Thank you. Finally someone with a clue. How will he have time to throw here? Who will he throw to? Freaking Devin Hester and Earl Bennett? Rashied Davis? We can all sit here and play the "what if" game, but until we get real OL and real WR's in here, it won't matter if Tom Brady was our QB. I don't think Coles is the answer to all our problems, but not even an effort to get him? Same thing with Bryant Johnson- you think if we would have offered him a 3-9 contract like Detroit did, he'd be playing there next year? I don't. I think the better question is- if Sanchez, Maclin, and Oher are on the board when we pick, who do we pick? If we somehow get Cutler and Maclin and Oher are on the board, who do we pick? What a vicious cycle you present here... we don't have good WR or a good OL so we shouldn't go get a good QB. Rather we should keep a bad QB and get him good WR to throw to and a good OL to protect him. Where does the cycle end? Keep trotting out bad QB's because we need to get them more help? What if the WR were good, but look bad because the QB cant get em the ball? Why cant a good QB make bad WR better? Why cant a QB who makes his reads quicker make a bad OL better? So we should continue to implement the same strategy we have for years and hope that a REAL QB magically falls in our lap. That has worked real well for us. Your probably right that if Tom Brady was the bears QB next year he wouldn't be the "Tom Brady" we have grown to admire, however, he also wouldn't be Kyle Orton either. I'd much rather go into battle with Tom Brady than Kyle Orton, with any group of receivers and any O-Line, and for that matter I'd rather have Jay Cutler too. I don't see why its this horrible idea to trade a midlevel first round pick for a QB who has already made a pro-bowl! Jay Cutler is better than any pick we can make at 18.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 12:37 PM) This just keeps getting better... Apparently the Senior Senator from Illinois is afraid of Bobby Rush. http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2009/03...south-side.html wow, what an embarrassing example of political pandering... Dick Durbin really has no reason to put on such a display, I mean does he really need the support of Bobby Rush and his jokesters to win re-election? I really doubt it. Durbin has done a good job of making people in Illinois forget that he exists... a surefire way to keep getting oneself re-elected in this state. The old "well he must be doing a good job because I havent heard otherwise" strategy. I actually like Dick Durbin (minus the "gulag" comments) but admitting that race played a factor is WRONG. The african-american community isn't entitled to a senate seat, just because the previous senator was black. The seat in Illinois represents ALL PEOPLE IN ILLINOIS! Was Barack Obama originally elected in Illinois because we wanted a black senator? I hope not. I would hope Barack Obama was elected because he was the best person to represent this state and its interests. There shouldn't be some default rule that requires an african american to be replaced by an african american... the same goes for a white senator for a white senator. The governor should select the candidate that he feels will best represent the people he governs. The senate should not accept an unworthy candidate for "calculations of race" if they honestly felt that Burris was tainted... they should have proceeded as such.
  18. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 12:12 PM) If Burris pulls of the nomination I would definitely put my money on him losing the general election. He would get killed in the suburbs and downstate. I agree with you on Kennedy, it's just not somethign Democrats bring up. I sure hope you are right about Burris... the RNC might view a Burris Nomination as a GREAT chance to win back a seat and would pump a ton of dough to back a Republican Candidate. Which is why I dont understand Paul Vallas running for CCBP. I think in a battle between Burris and Vallas... Vallas could easily beat him. I think Vallas carries the kind of credibility that invites people from both sides of the aisle to support him. I dont care if Paul Vallas was a Dem/Rep/Lib/Ind I would vote for him, because he gets results and because I believe he is the genuine article. Either way, I hope that Burris is kicked out of office and has to add "impeached US Senator" to his list of accomplishments on his masoleum.
  19. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 11:58 AM) Bobby Rush brought up Chappaquiddick today, wondering out load why Roland Burris is so scandalous but a white Ted Kennedy drove someone into a lake and killed them and no one cared. I'm not making this up. On a side note, what are the chances Burris wins the Dem nomination for the seat? if he does he'll lose in the general election for sure Lisa Madigan or Alex Giannoulis is the next Junior Senator from Illinois. Roland Burris will not win the nomination, but if he does he will win re-election... I don't think enough people will pay attention to get out and vote otherwise, and its already obvious that certain wards in Chicago will do their best to get out the vote for him. Madigan will probably the next Governor of Illinois, it seems thats where she wants to be and she already looks to have the ground operation solidified with her fathers connections. Madigan has also done a good job of positioning herself as the knight in shining armor when she took on Blago. Giannoulis has already begun putting together his campaign for 2010. He seems to be the next young Democratic star from Illinois and he will probably gain support from the machine. I haven't heard any serious rumors about his credibility (please correct me if im wrong) so I dont think he will face must opposition if the Machine backs him. Bobby Rush is literally a clown, however, Ted Kennedy probably should be in jail... this doesn't excuse the fact that Roland Burris completely LIED to the people of Illinois. However, if you or me were involved in that Chapaquiddick incident, we'd probably have gone to jail for a long time.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 11:22 AM) Yes there is. Fredrenna Lyle is apparently a raging racist hosebeast. I'm not sure how else to characterize it... she has basically said that if you don't backdown with the attacks on Roland Burrs, she will rally black people against you. That comment might be the most offensive thing I've heard in a long time. Shame on her.
  21. I hope none of you are planning on running for public office in the city of Chicago.... Fredrenna Lyle is taking notes, and will rally people of color against you. There is something really wrong here.
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 05:25 PM) Big thanks to Sonik and Brian for the help on the song. That's it. Thanks a bunch. As for today, Niemi looked solid. Bolland has 13 points in 6 (or 7?) games and Toews is red-hot. Niemi managed to hold down the fort despite a few really scary moments... you really couldn't have asked for much more from a goalie making his first start in the league.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 07:22 PM) Are you kidding me, Cutler is a f***ing stud. Yes, he needs to mature as a QB -- but he can fling the rock like few other QBs in the league.
