  1. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 12:54 PM) Smart move on their part, because then they don't have to give out a massive rookie contract. I'd much rather spend the same or similar amount of money on Jay Cutler than Matthew Stafford. Absolutely right... but this is why I don't think the Broncos will want the #1 pick. The Bears are actually in a good position to make this deal IMO because they hold a mid round pick, where DEN could maybe take Sanchez at 12 and then add defense at 18 -- both players should cost about as much as Stafford would at number 1. We shall see though
  2. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 12:58 PM) The guy from the 5th element? Multipass?
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 31, 2009 -> 12:02 PM) It used to be so much easier. damn cub fans.
  4. Tyrus took two 15 foot jump shots in OT... how upsetting.
  5. Tyrus had 18 pts 8rebs and 7blks today... a bunch of good performances today.
  6. Bulls won 112-106 DR came up 1 AST and 2 REB short of a triple double.
  7. Ben Gordon has just been dominating today: 25 pts 11-17 Shooting 5 Reb 5 Ast -- 1 TO 3 Stls through 3 qtrs
  8. .... I think Joakim Noah might just be a player in this league. He's been playing so well since Miller got here (even before that really). Joakim might just be a keeper if he spends this next summer in the weight room.
  9. Lance better HGH-up and get the healing process going. I joke... I love Lance.
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 28, 2009 -> 12:28 AM) Hmm ok. Does hockey re-seed each round though, and could you get home ice against a team with a better "seed" than you if you have more points than them? NHL doesn't re-seed necessarily... but the highest remaining seed after the first round plays the lowest remaining seed. So if 1 and 7 make it to the conference semi-finals... 1 will always play 7 and the remaining two teams will play against eachother. The highest seed always gets home-ice advantage.
  11. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Mar 27, 2009 -> 07:49 PM) Versteeg just had one of the sicker goals of the season. Just great maneuvering by him behind the goal line to get in scoring position. It might not make sports center tonight... but that was a special goal. Steeger had so little room to get that shot off, and he really could only shoot it where he did. This kid is really special with the puck, absolutely ridiculous sometimes.
  12. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Mar 26, 2009 -> 08:59 PM) One of my better friends is a Browns fan and he says that Shaffer was terrible last year. His strength was never pass blocking, but it was downright bad last year and his run blocking, which is his strength supposedly, wasn't all that great last year. If Shaffer was that good... he'd still be a Brown. However, he has experience and he's huge... so maybe he can be salvaged and this coaching staff can coach him to be a better player (not likely).
  13. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Mar 24, 2009 -> 04:48 PM) Grossman > Brady Put the 'man on the Patriots with that O-Line, and you will see the revival of the "F It, I'm Going Deep" style of ball. Rexy went deep on the reg. Rexy banged b****es on the reg. Rexy got mad paid on the reg. and unfortunately Rexy got picked on the reg.
  14. QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 23, 2009 -> 12:53 PM) Brady's arm really isn't that strong. Really it's not, it's nothing special, it's about average for a NFL QB (meaning, he is not Griese or Pennington). Oh, for sure he can complete those 40 yard passes to Moss, but what you see is him having the time to make the throws which is not that difficult to do when you have 6, 7, 8 seconds to make the throw. But when he sees a spot deep in front of him he needs his feet planted, you can even see him strain to wind up to make the throw. When they're in the air, they tend to sail, and they aren't the prettiest, but they get the job done, it doesn't even really matter when you're throwing to Moss anyway. This isn't that noticeable when New England is doing its typical outstanding job of pass protection, and to take nothing away from Brady, he's good about reading pre-snap defenses. When the protection starts falling apart though you can see it, but he still has Welker (who is phenomenal) to bail him out. So, yeah, bottom line is that his arm strength is good enough, but that's not where his numbers come from, and he's not at all comparable to guys like Manning, Favre, Cutler, Culpepper, hell, even Grossman. Those guys can flip a 45-yard bomb pretty effortlessly. I'll give your opinion deference, because you live in the area and probably watch him more critically than I do. However, would you say that there are throws that Tom Brady can't make? I mean from what I saw in 07 he did have time to throw (except for XLII) but he still did hit receivers in stride, with authority. There were times when Moss simply out jumped everyone (MIA game), but I also saw a few throws where Brady hit Moss on the deep ball where he needed to make the throw -- and he did. I guess I just feel like Brady is undervalued (haha, never thought you'd hear that -- did ya?) as a passer. In his first year you could see his deficiencies as a passer, and since then you can see that the guy really worked on his game. He will probably always be viewed as that crafty "Montana" type, but both of those guys offered more than just intangibles (Joe Montana made a sick game for Sega in the 90's).
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 09:34 PM) Brady is pretty much a game manager, but he's also incredibly productive. Its not as if Brady is ridiculous talented, he's just very very smart and accurate and makes quick decisions and great plays. So I think the key is you need an above average QB, but a game manager can very well be an above average QB. I understand the tendency to look at Brady and say "he's not incredibly talented" that he's like Montana etc... not the most skilled but has the intangibles etc... I think that tendency doesn't really do Brady justice... I think Tom Terrific has a cannon and while he might not have the abilities of Peyton Manning... he's not much worse in the throwing department. Brady can improvise with the best of them too, step up in the pocket (sans last season -- ouch) and find the 3rd or 4th option. I think Tom Brady is a top 5 quarterback because of his skill... I'd take Tom Brady over any other Quarterback in the league because of his combination of skill and intangibles. my .02
  16. QUOTE (shakes @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) I think it's just the opposite with him. The Sox are showing confidence in him and that has seemed to be the big difference in his turnaround. For whatever reason I agree with you. I think Gavin is the type of guy you want to pat on the bottom and give him a biscuit for doing good. I think this was a great signing for KW.
  17. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) That's a lot of money for a guy who just had his first good year. I disagree... its really affordable, and if Floyd has a year anything like the last year, he will be really underpaid.
  18. QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 20, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) If Angelo paid an inordinate amount of money in a trade and re-did Cutler's contract with a bunch of guaranteed money without quickly building an offense around him (admittedly, once you have the QB, that's the easy part), the only thing that will happen is Culter will struggle badly, be run out of town, and fans will once again be calling for Angelo's head. Thats a risk a good team must be willing to take. I'm not sure how Angelo would pay money in a trade (i'm assuming you mean give up picks). I would be hesitant to agree with you about running Cutler out of town. A) if he has been given a bunch of guaranteed money (as you say) hes not going to be run out of town B ) I think that Cutler would - if anything - give Angelo/Lovie more of a honeymoon period because their success/failure would be tied to Cutler. C) What makes you think Cutler will struggle badly? Why not sign a RT (Levi Jones, I guess), and a WR (Holt?), you already have Matt Forte and the offensive line wasn't pathetic last year. If Chris Williams is the player we thought when we drafted him... your offensive line would be pretty average. Forte, Olsen, Clark, Holt (or Harrison or Toomer etc...) Hester (ugh) thats not an offense that would struggle badly with Cutler at the helm.
  19. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Mar 20, 2009 -> 03:04 PM) How many in that long list of quarterbacks have looked excellent one year and borderline bad the next??? Almost all of them! How can that be???? Maybe their circumstance, the situation AROUND THEM, changed: for the worse. A) almost all of them? maybe we're not looking at the same statistics. The only Qb's that got considerably worse on that list were Chandler (injured) Gannon (injured) Roethlisberger (pre-season motorcycle accident) Hasselbeck, and Grossman. B ) nobody will argue that a franchise QB will immediately make a team like the bears into a contender. OF COURSE the talent around him is going to determine that outcome. However, what that list tells you is that UNLESS you have a pro-bowl level QB your team is probably going to face a considerably more difficult time making the superbowl. YES you need a good overall team, but why not GET a franchise QB and then make the team better around him? we've been able to make decent overall teams (Def and Spec teams) but we HAVE NOT had an offense that can consistenly score! So yes... getting Jay Cutler wont make the offensive line magically better, or turn his receivers into pro bowlers... but he will solidify the one position that is PARAMOUNT to all others and fill a need this team hasn't been able to fill for 60 years! If we follow your line of reasoning... we will assemble a team that is finally good enough to support a franchise QB, but have no franchise QB. Then we will need to find a franchise QB... which this organization has already proven, it cannot do. So the rest of the team around the slightly above average to poor QB will have to carry us to the superbowl... which as indicated by that list... does not happen with any frequency. I like my plan better.
  20. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 05:29 PM) It was watching ESPN News this afternoon. Michael Smith talked about it. i see i see
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 02:37 PM) So, Tampa leads with a #1 and a #3? Really? source? I'm trying to find that story.
  22. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 10:19 AM) Trent Dilfer says hi. Trent Dilfer is great on NFL Live. However, if your going to use him as a part of a trend... you may want to include some additional names. Last 12 SuperBowls 98 -- Elway, Favre (both pro bowlers) 99 -- Elway, Chandler (both pro bowlers) 00 -- Warner, McNair (both pro bowlers 01 -- Dilfer, Collins (neither pro bowlers) 02 -- Brady, Warner (both pro bowlers) 03 -- Johnson, Gannon (both pro bowlers) 04 -- Brady, Delhomme (both pro bowlers) 05 -- Brady, McNabb (both pro bowlers) 06 -- Roethlisberger, Hasselback (both pro bowlers) 07 -- Manning, Grossman (manning -- PB) 08 -- Manning, Brady (Brady -- PB) 09 -- Roethlisberger, Warner (both pro bowlers) 20 of the last 24 SB Qb's made the pro bowl. Now that fact is not without its faults... but i think its generally indicative that Trent Dilfer is an exception to the rule... and definitely not a TREND.
  23. Earl Bennett couldn't learn the plays. If Bennett and Hester are our starting WR's next year... we better hope opposing DB's don't distract them with shiny objects and steal their lunch money.
