  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 09:12 AM) You can be my official spokesman anytime. The Pads don't want that terrible contract. I LOOOOOOVE that that deal finally came back to bite the Cubs in the ass. I said it was a monstrously bad deal when they signed him, and Hendry's finally feeling the pain for all of his terrible moves. No problem, I am an attorney, so I can do some damage control if you need it!! Yeah, a few of those deals are coming back to bite them. That Soriano deal is god-awful, that will do some serious ass-biting in its last year or two. Although it would be somewhat better if they get a legit leadoff guy and drop him in the order, still bad, but a little better
  2. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 09:25 AM) Wow. The UAW predicting the stock market. That is impressive. Where do we close today guys? I didn't mean the stock market, I probably didn't organize my post very well. I meant they probably thought that GM wouldn't allowed to fold in the short term
  3. I'm seeing Oasis tonight and I am jacked. I know they're not everybodies cup of tea, but they're one of my favorite bands and they always put together good setlists. I am a little dissapointed in their new album, it's OK, but I thought their previous album was very underrated and this new one is just average
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 09:17 AM) I was certain that the Mike Murphy fan was a myth. I am SHOCKED than anyone can stand that idiot. He panders to the idiot cub fan, which there's enough to keep him kicking. I 2nd hand that he did a segment this week about how the Cubs would have the best pitching staff of all time if they got Peavy. That's pure Cubbie pandering
  5. QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 08:59 PM) I think she's hotter than Angelina Jolie these days. Stern did a good rant about how her whole act smacks of desparation and makes her a little less hot, but I'm in Arties camp that in theory I agree, but she's still smoking
  6. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 09:16 AM) The little girl Caylee's mother,by any chance? Iam embarrassed to even ask but I will anyway. I will admit it since the first person chimed in so quickly. Yes, it is her. I am not saying it to be funny or edgy, I just think she's attractive. It could be my extreme hatred for Nancy Gracy that fules it, like when you find your bosses daughter hot
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 05:06 AM) I've been talking to my girlfriend for a while to try and go down the Hershey Highway, and she finally agreed to do it on one condition: that I take her out to a restaurant. Where should I take her and what should I suggest she gets? have her eat some pistachios and corn so there's some color and texture... (Great thread, it reminds me of the Bad Idea Jeans sketch from SNL which is in the their top ten of all time in my opinion)
  8. USA is jamming "The Starter Wife" down our throats and I am now finding Debra Messing crazy hot. I am also finding someone who is in the news in a bad way hot, but even i'm embarassed to admit it
  9. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 09:05 AM) Was it the "Lovie doesnt show enough fire" and "They play too much Cover-2" crowd calling in? He hates those guys eh, not so much because they won, those tend to come out when they lose. It was more of the "Orton played a good game because they won, don't look at the numbers" and "Hester is developing into a #1 receiver" type calls, which is his new favorite
  10. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 08:49 AM) So now the Phillies 3-4-5 hitters will all be lefty? Good point, but I still think it's a good move for them. They probably will try and add a rightie to shake it up. Probably about what Abreu will get. Anyone think this sets a Dunn market at all? Cubs will probably sign Bradley soon
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 09:24 PM) Jurko is such an ignorant ass. I don't think I've ever heard an intelligent thought from him. My 4 most annoying Chicago media members are Jurko, Murph, ZZ, and David Kaplan. McNeil (sp?) and Murph are far and away my top two. McNeil brings very little to the table for me. B & B can be hysterical and can be annoying, so I just turn them off when they are annoying. I think they tend to purposely play it up on the air, I've met Bernstein a few times and he's one of the nicest guys I've ever met and my brother in-law knows Boers and he said he's nice and has a saracastic sense of humor. I love Jason Goff. Lawrence Holmes is very good and has developed a lot over the years, unlike Jonathan Hood. Don't get me wrong, i think Hood is actually OK, but I think he hasn't grown over the years. Abadacola (I'm butchering the spelling) did about a 2 and a half hour post game show for the Bears last night that was epic, he just laid into the meat heads and about halfway through stopped screening calls. It was hysterical.
  12. QUOTE (The Critic @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 11:26 AM) This surprised me, I have to admit: http://www.lordsofpain.net/news/2008_/1229009584.php Source: ESPN.com -- Earlier this year, there were rumors that boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya would be appearing at WrestleMania 24 along with Floyd Mayweather. It turns out that boxing's Golden Boy didn't have to appear at WrestleMania to be on the biggest PPV event of the year. While WrestleMania drew roughly 1.1 million PPV buys, last weekend's De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao fight topped it with 1.25 million buys. The breakdown was 680,000 buys via cable and 570,000 via satellite. "When it's all counted up, it will end up at 1.35 or 1.4 million," Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum stated. I wasn't too surprised by this, but I thought maybe the buyrate would even be a little higher: http://www.lordsofpain.net/news/2008_/1228940708.php Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter -- While the UFC has not issued any statements regarding the Pay-Per-View buyrate figure for UFC 91: Couture vs. Lesnar, the internal word is that the event drew close to 1 million PPV buys. This is around what UFC President Dana White predicted and would be considered a big success for the company. i think a weak economy actually may help PPV numbers. Once you get 3-4 people pitching in, even with beer and food, it becomes a relatively cheap night.
  13. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 02:42 AM) This would be a very interesting match up that would end in one of two ways: Either Mayweather gets knocked the f*** out, or Mayweather wins on points. FM's weird style might give MP some trouble, but if MP catches him, he will put FM to sleep. If MP can't figure out his style, FM will win by a ton of points, but won't leave a blemish on MP's face. FM won't beat him the way I want to see MP figured out and beaten. I'd be very interested in a Hatton/Pac-Man fight, they are two of my favorite fighters and if its in Vegas I would probably head out there for it
  14. QUOTE (The Critic @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 02:46 AM) The heavyweights ruined boxing for me. I get so frustrated watching so many "fights" turn into jab/jab/hug. 12 rounds of walking in a circle and embracing gets boring almost immediately. I know some will compare that to the ground game of MMA, but I see more going on in the takedown situations than I see in the clinching of boxing matches. The best boxing is still fun to watch, but it seems like I never see the best boxing any more. Whenever I do happen to catch a fight (usually on Versus, it seems) there's more hugging than a family reunion. There can be lay and pray fights (see some of Koschek's early fights and Bader's semi-final win on TUF) but there are some crazy technical ground fights that are extremely interesting. I trained a little BJJ, but that's not necessary to enjoy the ground game I will look at some message boards and recommend some fights. The Matt Horwich/Dan Miller fight from UFC 90 had some entertaining ground action and the first round of Wagney Fabiano / Tamura from the last WEC had some good ground work. Rewatch Big Nog/Timmy fight, it's a short example but when Nog gets him on the ground it is textbook BJJ ownage. The Mir/Big Nog fight has a potential to have some sick ground work, but it could also stalemate and also I think Nog will want to keep it on the feet because IMO he has a good sized advantage there
  15. I'll give a testimonial!! not in this forum, but in the Sox forum I used this feature in the last week on one poster and it is awesome, I'm just annoyed that their posts come through when people quote them
  16. MSNBC just reported the Treasury said they will not let one of them fail, at least until Congress meets again in January. So the automakers will be getting money with little supervision, you had to figure the UAW knew this would happen and won't make any serious moves until they actually feel they are in real danger. They said that's why the Dow didn't plunge at an insane level because everyone figured that there would be a backstop for now
  17. QUOTE (MO2005 @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 08:15 AM) Steve you make no sense. The deal included Marquis so they would be getting rid of his huge contract. Trading and letting go are different. I'm not Steve's official spokesman, but I think he knew that. What I believe he meant is no team was willing to take the contract and give the Cubs anything in value. When you have a marginal player with a bad contract you can get something for him if you eat a majority of the contract if you want to dump all or most of his money you get very little back. The Cubs found themselves in a position where they needed to drop a contract and get more prospects, something that Marquis' contract would not help them do
  18. Being reported that the White House is considering using some of the previous bailout money for the Big 3 since there couldn't be a compromise... which would mean the companies would get it with very little to no supervision
  19. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 03:40 PM) Very much so, some of the finishes were as brutal as i've seen on one card. http://deadspin.com/5107345/mma-sets-new-s...ne=true&s=x Do not look if you couldn't stand the Joe Theisman injury
  20. These horrible back loaded contracts are coming back to bite the Cubs along with a shallow minor league system. B & B are saying Cubs wouldn't part with Marshall since they have to value him higher than other teams would
  21. If this went down I would be extremely happy
  22. Fight For the Troops is worth catching on replay if you see that Spike is reshowing it.
  23. going to hang out at my friends now and there's some discussion of getting it, so we'll see. I've always watched boxing and usually you get the better fights (excitement wise) on HBO or SHO. I'm a little torn on this match, Pac-Man has never fought above 135 I believe and he's at 143 in this fight and Oscar is at 145 and hasn't fought at the 147 limit in about 7 years, so it sets up perfectly for ODLH to win then do another mega money match with Hatton, probably at a higher weight than Hatton is use to (147). When I get a few minutes I'll poke around google and see if I can find an article I read over the last year or so about how MMA fans aren't really converted boxing fans, and they had some numbers to support it. I watch both and enjoy both.
  24. Erin Andrews will always be MY sideline princess
  25. CNBC had a stat that percentage wise the job loss report was the 41st worst ever, still significant since it's in the top 50 ever, but infotainment won't report that and point to the raw numbers
