I'm in a 12 person league with AVG., HR, SB, R, RBI's, K's, BB for the offensive stats, and I have too many OF so I dropped Catalanotto to pick up Scott Linebrink. I'm starting to think that is wasn't a good idea to drop Frank, but I don't know if I would be better off dropping Byrnes instead.

White Sox v. A's Spring Training game

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 28, 2005 -> 03:26 PM) No, but he brings it up like Billy just lucked into those guys. Does he forget who drafted them (IIRC, Billy drafted at least two out of the three)? And, his constant ragging of Oakland's system is really pathetic. Oakland has won more games in a much tougher division the past what, four, five years, and then he turns around and calls Kenny the best GM in all of baseball... It's overkill at this point... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So in your opinion, what has contributed more to their sucess; the sabrmetrics aprroach, or the stellar pitching? -

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 28, 2005 -> 02:20 PM) LMAO, Hawk saying you can do anything you want when you have 3 20 game winners, moneyball or not <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Is he wrong? -
I can't stop laughing at this for some reason.

Joe Sheehan of Baseball Prospectus rates Sox
santo=dorf replied to Jabroni's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I could spend a long time ripping into this guy, but I will keep it short. The idea that Mark Buehrle and Freddy Garcia aren't worth the money they are being paid is ridiculous, especially after this offseason with the deals that Milton, Pavano, Wright, Benson, and Paul Wilson recieved. :headshake -
Let's have every post in green for this thread!!!

I have no idea where I fall, but BE GOOD has to be the rock star.

QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) to reply to santo....i opened his video file, which was an .avi file, in Adobe Image Ready.....trimmed unimportant parts so i could make the file size smaller....i then adjusted the size of the video to avatar proportions. Then saved it as a .gif. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If I sent you some 3-5 second footage, could you turn it into an "owned" video for me?

Patterson looked like A ball hitter
santo=dorf replied to BHAMBARONS's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
11 K's, 0 BB in 15 games. Who's stats are those, some over-hyped Cubs pitching prospect? f*** no! They're Korey Patterson's. -
Was going to start a new thread, but when is "Thursdsay?"

QUOTE(T R U @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 08:56 PM) Who is that handsome devil?? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I know you are going to love reading this, but I see a resemblance to Randy Orton. What are you using to make it .gif?

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 06:08 PM) I doubt you'd ever hear Hawk rip Borchard, even if he was traded, just my two cents. I think he geniunely wants to see the guy succeed and I'm pretty sure he likes Borch off the field. The same cannot be said for others who have left the organization. Same goes for KW in this situation. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He was kissing his ass today talking about how good his spring has been, how nobody can hit them as far as he can, how he went to Stanford, and how Greg Walker is working with him, and yadda yadda yadda. Naturally Borchard struck out during the at-bat.
-
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 04:49 PM) Also...you know that KW is already on the phones about a potential deal in the future...whether or not you like the thought of BMac being rushed. If he can come in and put up Greinke-esque numbers(not even that good), I can almost already see Contreras being shipped out. If BMac can put up Greinke/Buehrle numbers in his first year, Contreras will be out of here about as fast as Royce Clayton was when JM found him in tennis shoes on the bench(except it will be a trade and not a flat out release) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Even if Contreras is pitching well?
-
Who knows? It all depends on Mark's recovery, the bullpen, BMac progress, and the other 4 starters in the rotation.

QUOTE(T R U @ Mar 19, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) Why get rid of Garland? he puts up better numbers than contreras and is like 3X cheaper.. If anyone needs to be gone its him.. Garland is more valuable who could forget when he out dueled Santana at the Homer Dome... that game will live on with me forever <{POST_SNAPBACK}> GMAFB. Garland had a better 2004 (not by that much, and won 12 games compared to 13) yet Contreras had a far superior 2003. So how did you come up with the conclusion that Garland puts up better numbers than Contreras? Are you just basing it on 2004? As for the game you mention, I wouldn't say he outdueled him because he had some amazing defense behind from Valentin and Gload that day. Seriously, Santana struck out 12 and gave up only 3 hits in 8 IP.
-
Is there any stat lamer than CERA? Davis caught Contreras and the 5th starter garbage. Blanco caught Santana and Radke. 'Nuff said.

Just to inform some of the U of I posters and lurkers here, I'm planning on having a party at the bar of Geovanti's for opening day. I need at least 40 people, and a message was sent out through facebook, but I figured at most it would be $3 per person We get a keg, and lots of appetizers. Just let me know if you are interested, and I'll get some more details about it after the Cubs-Sox game today.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) The ERA part of that number is worthless. Of course guys are going to give up more runs with runners on. The solo HR is the only way someone can score with the bases empty. But I will agree that the WHIP and BAA are scary. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah I thought about that as soon as I posted it, but Contreras did give up twice as many homers when the bases empty than with runners on. I should've listed the HR numbers.
