I agree, to a point. I compare the National ID debate to gun control. Who are the people most worried about potentially losing their rights to own handguns? Probably people who intend to use their handguns for illegal purposes. If you are a law-abiding, upstanding, tax paying citizen, why would you worry about having to register for a national ID card?

I agree. I have been pulled over in the past (I had longish hair and a beard) because I "fit the profile", and it sucks. But, it seems to me that the one's complaining the loudest about things like being photographed speeding are those that have been busted by these systems. I think that these systems do more good than harm, and are implemented to protect law-abiding society. What bothers me more is when a murderer, rapist, drug dealer, etc. gets off on a "technicality" (like not having his Miranda Rights read to him), when you know he's as guilty as sin. (i.e. OJ Simpson)

Agreed. But do you agree that the "Religious Right" are "pulling Bush's strings"? Look at what's happenning with the FCC all of a sudden. Look at the strides that the "pro-lifers" are making.

I think that the "innocent convict" premise is way overblown! What percentage of incarcerated individuals do you believe are not gulity of the crime for which they were sentenced? I'd say 1/100 of 1%, if that many.

While I am scared that we are losing too many personal freedoms ("Thanks" Republicans!), I also feel that if you are doing nothing illegal (have nothing to hide), then it shouldn't matter if police photograph your vehicle to see if you're speeding. As you know, we now take fingerprints and photographs of all visa holders attempting to enter the US. Sometimes, these people express their displeasure with having to be "subjected" to these procedures. We tell them, 1) if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear; and/or 2) if you don't like it, you don't have to come to the US. Interestingly enough, I have had more people tell me that they support the "registration" system than have expressed displeasure therewith.

This country of ours is taking a scary turn towards the "religious Right" (aka "the moral minority"). I just hope it's not enough to put Bush over again. "Personal freedoms" could not take another 4 years of the current administration.

I have been laying low, hangin' with my baby and wife, but I'm back to support the cause, Nuke. Yassin HAD to go, plain and simple. No arrests, no trials, no b.s. He was a terrorist murderer with at least 377 deaths attributable to him. f*** him! He's dead and in Hell. What kills me is that there are all these people around the world who actually feel bad for him! The fact that he breathed the same air as us was a disgrace. I was privileged enough to have seen The Ramones play live on two separate occasions; once at The Aragon, once at The Uptown Theater (both venues in Chicago)...they kicked SOOOO much ass! All these "new punk" bands like The Offspring, Green Day, White Stripes, etc., (all of whom I like a lot!) "owe" their successes to The Ramones; they will be the first to admit it too! Get the CDs, you will not be disappointed. I have also seen and am a fan of The Boomtown Rats. They weren't as "hard core" as The Ramones, Sex Pitols, Clash, etc., but very good. You can still find their CDs, but not as readily as The Ramones. BTW...my 8 week old son has 2 Ramones "onesies"; one says "Rock and Roll Preschool" and the other has the Ramones emblem. (He also has 2 Metallica onesies, an AC/DC, 2 Aerosmiths, a ZZ Top, a Rolling Stones and a Clash t-shirt.)
