QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) The offense was fading fast well before Pods went on the DL. Also, don't get your hopes up for a speed player coming back strong after a groin injury. Wrong. Our offense never really got clicking at all this season. Its was all in fits and starts this season and thats being magnified now that our pitching has come down to earth.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) That was a nice short swing. Like he had last year. When he had power to right and right center. This year, specifically after the padres series, he changed his swing so he can get more around on the ball so he can get lift. Its so f***ing obvious, look at his hands. Last year his stance was very erect, he had a strong L going with his arms. This year his hands are tucked in like Mickey Tettleton. He now has a very pronounced uppercut on the ball. And cannot hit the outside pitch at all. Wisdom from one of our many armchair hitting coaches. -

QUOTE(whitesoxjr27 @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) that whole timo for Iguchi in the ninth just flat out blows my mind. Timo Perez is like the dork in school who you had to let play because he was the only one with a ball. I havent hated a player more since Royce K-Layton was here. -

QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 08:52 PM) and the soxtalk civil war is on again. this time i'm caught in-between instead of being solely on the optimistic side. i guess that means i get shot. I need something more to hold onto than a great 1st half of a season to be optimistic about this team. For that the following has to happen. 1. Team has to look sharp going down the stretch. 2. Team has to play well against potential playoff opponents. Neither of those 2 are happening right now. Since the break we've been playing lousy baseball and thats mostly the fault of the hitters. I though the focus of this year was supposed to be "smartball" but instead every meathead in the lineup save Pods and Gooch are swinging for a 3 run homer with nobody on base. Add to that the fact that our potential playoff rivals are cleaning up the floor with us. Those who want to be optimistic can be if they want to.....thats their choice, but the facts of life right now are totally against them. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 08:48 PM) Trust me, I never wanted it to go this way. I would have liked nothing else for the lead to stay in double digits all year, and for people to continue to bash me for being a pessimist. The one thing that pissed me off more than anything was when people would use stupid stats like "if the Sox go 21-20, etc". Who in their right mind thinks it's a guarantee that a team goes .500? This Sox team isn't talented enough to take their foot off of the accelerator...and I honestly feel like that's what we did. After 4 straight years of dissappointments I think its fair to place the burden of proof on the Sox as to whether they're really going places or not. -
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 01:51 PM) Unless you're on the White House staff. I hope you dont think I feel that way about it because I don't. At least prove the man guilty before you hang him is all I ask.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 01:42 PM) I think the guy is the best actor in his age group, period. I don't care what his politics are. I'm a Sean Penn fan because he is amazing at what he does for a living. His views are no less valid or important than anyone else's. He's a frickin actor, not an elected official. Its a wider point that Im trying to make here though. I know he's just an actor and I know his dissent against the war doesn't mean anything but treason is treason, it doesn't matter how famous or anonyamous you are.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 10:41 AM) how about coming back to just spending what they take in, not increasing the debt to become popular? The GOPerheads spend and not collect, and convince the public that somehow someone else will pay when the economy grows, is a dangerous scam. Basically the Grand Ol' Party is equating the Dems with Russians, and trying to spend the Dems into oblivion. How about respecting the checks and balances built into our system and not attacking the judicial branch? How about respecting the fourth estate and their efforts to keep freedom of speech intact, and corruption exposed? Then I will come back to the party. On the point of spending too much I wholeheartedly agree. Congressmen and senators are gonna have to bite the bullet and truly cut spending and cut it deeply if we're gonna get away from defecit spending. On that same note I want to see them make a real and concrete effort, none of this "slowing the rate of increases" bulls***, to cut spending before they come ask me for more of my money. The government should be made to live with less before its citizens do.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 10:47 AM) My premise was that all the war hawks decrying him (and her) for doing what they did -- while it was shady what Jane did, at least she was closer to Vietnam than most of the chickenhawks that are whining about her. And I don't need to defend his statement but I'm glad that at least some people are *gasp* going to another country and experiencing what it is like rather than simply sitting behind a computer mindlessly saying "USA! USA!" as government further erodes our rights. OMG Listen to yourself. What kind of warped asshole thought process does it take to laud a traitor as opposed to someone who avoided the war. At least Cheney and whoever else didn't provide aid and comfort to the enemy with their actions. :rolly You want to praise people who are "*gasp* going to another country and experiencing what it is like rather than simply sitting behind a computer mindlessly saying "USA! USA!"" then praise Servicemen and women who are putting their lives on the line rather than some f***ing b**** like Jane f***ing Fonda. Oh wait. I forgot. In your f***ed up mind those who serve their country are "idiots" while those who s*** all over America every chance they get while hipocritically enjoying its benefits are "enlightened". You're f***ed up in the head man.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 10:25 AM) Wow. A Hollywood anti-war activist went to a foreign country! That automatically means he's anti-American. Some of you are really big softheaded boobs. Jesus H. Christ. And unlike a lot of people (Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz etc.), at least he had the balls to go into a country where it is a warzone when he went into Iraq where it wasn't all protected etc. Yeah and some of you will give anyone a pass as long as they are aligned with the anti-US "DEATH TO AMERICA" crowd. If he has a problem with the Iraq war then thats fine. My problem is when he starts associating himself with the very same type of people who are killing people indiscriminantely all over the Middle East. But I forgot APU. Killing innocent people is ok with you just so long as it isin't the United States that does it.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) John Kerry is now out stealing soundbytes from a woman who lost her son in Iraq. God I hope someone else wins the nomination for the Democrats. :headshake Nah, another run by this insipid moron would suit me just fine.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 03:56 PM) Ten up in the loss column, too. Like you said, it all depends if you're a "glass half full" guy, or "glass half empty". I'm pissed about how their playing, yet I hope that our offense can't be this bad... I wouldn't feel so bad about having a 9 game lead if it weren't in the context of a free fall and a total lack of offense.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) I have little confidence on a team that can bat .230 as a team for the better part of a month. Plus a week ago we had a big 16.5 game lead on the twins and 15.5 on the injuns. BUT THERE IS NO WAY WE CAN GIVE UP 9 GAMES IN THE NEXT TWO MONTHS, THE 6 GAMES WAS JUST A MIRAGE Great pitching, meathead hitters who swing at s***. Like I said in the game thread. Get em some golf clubs and let em swing at that s*** in the dirt with them. At least then they have a prayer of making contact.
