  5. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 07:24 AM) I'm no "apologist" for Ozzie. Ninety percent of the time when someone on here b****es about a move Ozzie makes, I roll my eyes because those that b**** are more concerned with a single tree than with the whole forest. Ozzie cannot bring in Dustin Hermanson every time there is a threat to to a particular game. He cannot play the 9 best hitters every day. That kind of thinking is exactly what caused the downfall of the 1969 Cubs. Durocher played the same guys day after day and in mid-August they ran out of gas. There's a difference between getting a guy a day off every now and then and trotting out the garbage Sunday lineup and throwing a game away. He's got to find some middle ground between the Durocher scenario you mentioned and the Sunday Lineup.
  6. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 04:33 PM) http://slate.msn.com/id/2119864/ Norvell is London bureau chief for Fox News, and on May 20 he let the mask slip in, of all places, the Wall Street Journal. So far, the damage has been contained, because Norvell's comments—in an op-ed he wrote decrying left-wing bias at the BBC—appeared only in the Journal's European edition. But Chatterbox's agents are everywhere. Here is what Norvell fessed up to in the May 20 Wall Street Journal Europe: Even we at Fox News manage to get some lefties on the air occasionally, and often let them finish their sentences before we club them to death and feed the scraps to Karl Rove and Bill O'Reilly. And those who hate us can take solace in the fact that they aren't subsidizing Bill's bombast; we payers of the BBC license fee don't enjoy that peace of mind. Fox News is, after all, a private channel and our presenters are quite open about where they stand on particular stories. That's our appeal. People watch us because they know what they are getting. The Beeb's institutionalized leftism would be easier to tolerate if the corporation was a little more honest about it. ---- Kinda shoots down the "Fair and Balanced" slogan they throw at you 2972349823749324 times in a segment. Any idiot who actually watches Fox News can see that on their OPINION related shows there is a bias toward the right wing and RIGHT thinking guests. How does that relate to how the news is reported though? There you go again lumping in shows that are based on OPINION with actual news reporting.
  7. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 12:11 PM) When do we have to stop apologizing on a personal basis for the past? Not trying to start any sticky issues and arguments, but am actually curious from all races on this. http://money.cnn.com/2005/06/02/news/fortu...dex.htm?cnn=yes I dont feel the need to apologize for anything that happened prior to the civil war. Black people need to stop whining about slavery. If they'd focus as much energy on getting their own house in order as they do in trying to extract an apology for slavery from white people who by in large can't trace their roots in this country that far back they would be far better off.
  8. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 09:24 PM) Did Kudlow and Cramer split up? Mad Money is best when he just has all those people call in rapidfire. Yeah, they split up when Cramer got his own show. They air back to back now. I like both of those guys because they are about the only 2 on CNBC with a pulse.
  9. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 07:06 AM) That is, if Frank will accept a reduced contract. He may be getting tired of the BS. What choice would he have? Clearly if he stays around he's not going to get paid what he has been and if that doesn't sit well with him then who else is going to cough that kind of coin for an aging veteran who's been hurt as much as he's played since like 2001?
  10. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 01:19 AM) Okay, so we've seen all the "Get Player X" threads over the past month or so, which is starting to make me wonder what everyone thinks we need most to be a better baseball team. So, what do we need? Maybe we're just fine the way we are? This team has plenty of talent at all positions. Even players who have been as poor as Viz have the capability to do big things. The thing we need is for our current players to start playing up to their potential and stop half stepping it out there. There are about a half dozen guys who aren't getting it done out there and that needs to change.
  11. QUOTE(rafacosta @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 07:01 AM) It is my computer or this poll was hijacked? It is saying that Timo has 100,000 votes... Whatever, my vote went to Timo. You have to remember that this is Chicago, where election rigging is as much a part of life as pizza.
  12. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 10:04 AM) Next time you go into the chat, check out the title that comes onto the screen. "Soxtalk Chat - Sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon and Nuke Cleveland" Damn, I take ONE day off from posting and I get the name of a s*** beer like that slapped up next to mine in lights. Christ. I suppose next I'll see a banner made up to reflect that somewhere on the boards........... oh damn me and my big mouth.
  13. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 07:04 PM) What move will the Sox make to bring up Gload? BYE BYE TIMO!!! Maybe you'll hit your growth spurt while you're back in AAA.
  14. QUOTE(marsh @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 11:08 AM) His at bat last nite shows the respect and fear other teams still have for Frank. No one else on this team gets pitched around like that with bases loaded and the winning run on deck. He makes the offense a lot scarier for the other team. I think it was a wise move to pitch around him when you had Uribe in the on deck circle who would swing at a pitch thrown 10 feet over his head if you threw it there. With a 4 run lead they could afford to walk Frank with the bases juiced.
  15. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 09:03 PM) there's a rumor that we might trade crede + mac for him. that is all. -800 posts. People must have been really bored lately.
  16. QUOTE(mreye @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 12:29 PM) Yeah, you say this now that they've won 6 in a row? OK 6 in a row amongst some of the lesser teams of the NL no less. :rolly
  17. QUOTE(winodj @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:37 PM) Ever watch that guy on CNBC? I think he's gonna pop an artery or have a cardiac every five minutes. I never miss "Mad Money" on CNBC. Cramer may act goofy on his show but he knows his s***
  18. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 09:54 PM) Per Comcast. Thank you. Hello Cap'n Obvious
  19. QUOTE(I-HATE-CREDE @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) Thats one mediocre block. I think your boy Crede was seen looking for a winter place down around there too. Maybe they can play stickball together and pretend they're MLB ballplayers.
  20. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 08:43 PM) He is a waste of a roster space. There is no reason he is even in the majors, let alone on a first place ball club and being payed about 850,000. Actually, I don't even know why I'm making a thread about this considering it is painfully obvious. Now, why is Gload still in the minors while this scrub is here? Someone explain. Before you can bring up the G-Load question you have to explain why Walker got the call before Banjeru. I saw a stat on the scoreboard that said his ERA is down to 1.05 now.
  21. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 09:39 PM) Hm, hermanson has been lights out the entire season and has a stiff back at the moment i believe. Vizcaino has been lights out also if you consider giving up at least one run in half of his appearances. But if we throw out his six worst appereances he wouldn't even be too bad. Viz has been lights out alright. He comes in you may as well go to bed and save yourself the agony of watching another 2-3 runs cross the plate making a close game a blowout.
  22. QUOTE(Be Good @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 09:36 PM) The move that ticked me off the most is, Timo starting at 1st. Worst player in MLB to start at that position. He doesn't drop that throw to 1st and this thread doesn't exist. Timo is f***ing horrible.
  23. QUOTE(nvxplorer @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 09:30 PM) Yes, it is not an enviable position to be in. The more I think about it, if the intent was indeed to test Walker, he was put into the perfect situation. Bringing in a rookie for mop up doesn't really accomplish much if you are trying to gauge his potential. It was do or die for Walker, and of course we know how that turned out. Though Shingo and Vizcaino are struggling (to put it mildly), their capabilities are already known. I'm with everyone who claims the move was boneheaded, from the standpoint of winning the game, but by looking at the big picture, I can understand what management may have been doing. It is still very early and the Sox still have a four game lead. If Ozzie makes these same calls in August, I'll be the first to call for his head, but I give him a (tentative) pass for tonight. MOP UP?!?!?! AS I RECALL WE HAD THE LEAD WHEN WALKER CAME IN.
  24. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 09:25 PM) Viz didnt give up a run tonight and he did a good job stoping the damage the walker had caused. DID YOU WATCH THE SAME GAME THE REST OF US DID?!??!? Jiz couldn't get anybody out. It was like a parade around the bases with him. Everything off him was hit hard even the outs. :rolly
