Kerry Wood - Mark Prior injuries
NUKE_CLEVELAND replied to YASNY's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 06:19 AM) That last headline just had me laughing. Wood and Prior for 40 wins, yeah right. They'll be lucky to win 40 games between the 2 of em in the next couple of seasons. -
How many HRs will Barry Bonds hit this year?
NUKE_CLEVELAND replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I hope he never hits another HR period. -
Anytime you have a crisis like this there are always despicable people trying to make a con game out of it for a few bucks. It happened after 9-11, it has been happening with phony "support the troops" schemes as well.

US deserter not granted refugee status in Canada
NUKE_CLEVELAND replied to KipWellsFan's topic in SLaM
QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 24, 2005 -> 11:18 PM) Nuke.. how does this work..? The guy just decides to pack his bags one day and leaves..? Pretty much. Unless we're deployed or off somewhere doing training the military is just like any other job with everyone getting off work around 5ish to go do whatever. There's no special controls or restrictions placed on our activity off duty so if someone really wanted to they could just haul ass and nobody would be the wiser till the next workday. -
US deserter not granted refugee status in Canada

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Mar 24, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/20...man-050324.html I don't know where this guy is coming from. He enlists in the army when a Republican government is in power and after 9/11, what did he expect? I have no sympathy whatsoever for military personnel who suddenly become contientious objectors when it comes time to fight a war. In fact, I believe the contientious objector provision should have been done away with when the draft was abolished. They raised their right hand knowing full well that they may be called upon to go fight. If you disagree with the reasoning for going to war then finish your time and get out honorably. This guy should be tried for and convicted of desertion and sentenced appropriately. -
"Ah AH!" "I know what your thinking......did he fire 6 shots or only 5. I kinda lost track myself in all this excitement.....But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, it would blow your head clean off. You've got to ask yourself one question "Do I feel lucky?". Well do ya PUNK!!!" "You may be the one with the rope around your neck but I do the cutting. If we cut down my percentage........its liable to affect my aim." From Dirty Harry and The Good the Bad and the Ugly respectively.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 24, 2005 -> 01:12 AM) I don't think it is intended to be an excuse so much as a simple statement of fact. Yeah, the teen sex problem has taken on epic proportions, and with it, a litany of "side effects" like HIV, STDs, pregnancy, etc. Short the lofty ambition of stopping the teen sex, is there not a benefit of at least moderating the negative consequences that we all end up paying for? I think we need to do a better job of explaining to teens why having sex at their age is a bad idea before we throw up our hands and supply them the tools to do it with.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 11:13 PM) Out of curiosity, do you feel the same way about condoms being made available to high schoolers? Yes. High school teens dont need to be having sex.......period and the schools shouldn't be encouraging the behaivior by passing out condoms. "They're going to do it anyway" is not an excuse either.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 11:02 AM) This is not centered on anything specific, although I did just recently change jobs, but I have often found it is hard for me to endure change without thinking negatively about it or overanalyzing things or if I made the right decision. In other words, I second guess myself quite often after a substantial change to something in my life. For those of you out there who are wiser than myself, I'd like your two cents and perhaps some ideas to endure change easier. It's a part of all of our lives and everyone has to go through it. This should make for some interesting discussion, feedback and ideas. Thanks in advance. Change is all about planning. The more major the change you want to make the more time you need to spend planning and weighing pros and cons. If you take the time to think things through then you are far less likely to regret your decision because it will have been an informed one.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 10:01 PM) And hypocritical assholes looking to pander to their voting blocs, lets not forget about that. Feeding tubes are removed every day from people...why such giving a damn about this specific one? For once we agree. Why can't people just stay out of other peoples damn business for once?

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) IMO shes been dead for quite awhile now. Lets a matter of her family letting her go. Call me a cynic, call me heartless, call me whatever you want but I would like to see her kick the bucket cause she obviously cant get better and the media is doing what they do best here. They're taking someones suffering and using it to score ratings.

QUOTE(backman @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 08:43 PM) No worries, we have enough guys so that noone will have to pull and back to back apperances. Yup. For once the pen is looking pretty deep.

Joe Borowski breaks hand.
NUKE_CLEVELAND replied to Rex Kickass's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Mar 22, 2005 -> 08:13 AM) The Cubs must be worried now. Their half-ass closer is out. I would be elated if I were them. Losing Borowski is addition by subtraction. -
Is she dead yet?
-
QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 08:36 AM) This is disturbing. I had a close family member who was an addict, and this does not sound like a good solution to me. Getting off heroin is what is needed. I certainly see the reasoning, but its f***ed up. Its the same thing as when they hand out clean needles to IV drug users here. The goal is to prevent infection but all you really end up doing is subsidizing and encouraging the behaivior.

It's all good. I guess I just percieved the question the wrong way. Whatever. Tex. I was near El Paso for a while but then we moved north up Hwy 54 into some training area in the middle of noplace. One of the perks of being in a signal unit as opposed to my old combat engineer unit is that I can get Internet when we go out to train.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 01:48 AM) So who are you? Someone who's been here a lot longer than you.

I heard there was a movie coming out called "Gunners Palace" or something like that which was supposedly a no-bs 1st hand account of the action over there as it happened and told by those living it. I totally want to see that one.

QUOTE(flippedoutpunk @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 12:07 AM) NUKE! Im close to signing a 2 year deal with a $3,000 dollar signing bonus for an undisclosed amount with the U.S. Army! Army Rangers here i come Far out dude. Like I said before, any pearls of wisdom you need hit me up on the PM or on here or whatever.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 05:26 PM) A guy at WSI started a thread about this. I wonder if he heard it on the radio. Did anyone else hear anything about this rumor? I have a better idea. Trade him to a team in the Mexican leauge for a bag of corn chips and some salsa.
-
QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 23, 2005 -> 12:04 AM) Keep reading Nuke. The injury was reported falsely. Ok, I only read the 1st half of the thread and my head started spinning. So he's gonna be back on or near opening day?
-
When I go I usually get box seats on either the 1st base or 3d base side. Allows a nice view of everything and you can talk s*** to the opposing team's baserunners too.

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 08:58 AM) better to be conservative with Buehrle. trying to pitch with foot or leg problems can often lead to shoulder problems. Buehrle is too valuable to rush at any point. I hope they let him heal properly, get in his rehab and then bring him north in mid to late May. as for the fifth starter, i'm not convinced BMac is the right choice. Damn, the kid started last season in Low A ball. He's barely spent any time in AA. Garland was lights out in the minors, too. It ain't as easy when the real red light comes on. Rather see the kid pitch in Charlotte. If it is, in fact, 4-6 weeks then he should be ready around the 1st week in May. This is not the end of the world at all. A bad break to be certain, but life will go on.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 22, 2005 -> 11:53 PM) You are the first person who I know is neutral. Since life or death decisions are probably more common in your line of work than mine, is a living will required for military personnel? Is the decision left up to the military? How is it handled in the service? If you are married and you're going to deploy somewhere its required for you to have a will and a power of attorney set up although I dont think most of us even think about making a decision like that in their will and they dont require it. I'm sure the JAG guy helping out suggests writing a provision like that in there though.

HAHAHA!!! There is justice in the world and the baseball gods have struck down the roid freak. I would me totally happy if he never played another game or hit another HR.
