  1. Alright. That is fine. You are giving me some exceptions to the rule. I don't know about Raines, Gwynn, Julio Franco? Rickey Henderson? Just because someone played until this age does not mean they were good at that age. Give me a break. Vlad is not there yet, so I will not count him as he is younger than maggs. I think the Yankees are an old team by baseball standards. What is the average age of the league? If the average age is older than the Yanks team average then I will stand corrected. Until then I believe the Yanks are an old injury prone team. I am not arguijng this point with you anymore. You know my opinion on it there is no need to go any further.
  2. OK, you picked to of the greatest players to ever play the game. Are you comparing Bernie Williams and Kenny Lofton to Barry Bonds? Are you comparing Kevin Brown, Mike Mussina, Jon Leiber to Randy Johnson. I believe you are comparing apples to oranges here.
  3. YOu will take a 39 year old Keinv brown as a 3 and Jon Leiber as a 5? OK. I wouldnt be too thrilled about it.
  4. Wasn't Giambi's health argued last year? I thought it was.
  5. To me if a team's average age is 32 then they are an old team. That is just my opinion. I think we just have a difference of opinion to what old is to each of us. I will jsut have to agree to disagree with you in this instance.
  6. Good offense wins championships? I thought pitching and defense have been proven to win championships. Where was the highest scoring offense last year? How did the Marlins win the Series?
  7. Great point. They are depending on a very good national league pitcher going to the American league and being just as dominant. This is not always the case. Vazquez could fall flat on his face in the American League. He is not proven in this league. Brown is old and an injury waiting to happen. He can't go a whole year. Leiber is coming off of surgery, can he really go the whole year? I have my doubts. Then you have to speculate in what you have with Contreras. The starting rotation is full of question marks.
  8. What is the average age of their team and what is the average age of other teams in baseball? In a life span they are not old. In baseball terms they are an old team. I don't think anyone will deny that. That is how you determine if the whole team is old. Sheffield, Giambi, Brown, Leiber, Lofton, Bernie Williams, Mussina, Rivera, Gordon. They are old. Rivera was hurt last year and has thrown a lot of innings, I am sure there will be a point when he is hurt again this year. Gordon has not put 2 back to back seasons together since his surgery. Good luck with him. Who are they going to add and how? No prospects. You can't make trades if you don't have anything that others want. There are teams that want money, but they want young players as well. They Yanks system is terrible. They have nothing. Good luck for them in trying to acquire anyone. They have nothing to trade.
  9. The point is that no one was doing all this complaining when they had Boone and Soriano. Now that they have made this trade it seems as though it is bad for baseball and they will just dominate everything. When they had Boone and Soriano they were going ot be finishng 2nd to Boston. Now they are going to dominate. I don't understand.
  10. Alright, maybe I should have clarified myself. I believe they were better before Boone was injured. Sorry for the misunderstanding. WOW!
  11. They are in a league of their own as far as spending money and the unlimited amount of funds they have. As far as dominating I really don't think so. They are old and the pitching is suspect. When they need something due to an injury or underperforming they have no prospects to go out and get the players they need. They will not be able to go get these players. If they are going to buy a 2nd baseman then who are they going to buy? D'Angelo Jimenez?
  12. Come on guys it's not so bad. I know you see these names and the 190+ million dollar payroll and think WOW THIS IS AN AWESOME TEAM! But this team can still be beat. They still have holes. They lost an 35/35 all-star 2B and gained 13 million dollars in salary. How much more offense does this really add to an offense that was already really good? Take away Soriano's and plug in ARod's. I am not saying that ARod isn't superior to Soriano, but Soriano is not a piece of s*** either. AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB SO BA OBP SLG TB 607 124 181 30 6 47 118 17 3 87 126 .298 .396 .600 364 682 114 198 36 5 38 91 35 8 38 130 .290 .338 .525 358 As you can see ARod is top and Soriano is th bottom. There is a difference, I understand that. But wouldn't the Yanks be better off with Soriano at 2b and Aaron Boone at 3rd than ARod at 3rd and Cairo at 2B? Maybe I am just trying to look on the brighter side of this whole scenario. I just don't see that they improved themselves to the price of 13 million more dollars or to the extreme that we should just hand them the world series.
  13. I wouldn't worry about it. Consider the source. Gammons is an idiot.
  14. Correct, Jose is 33 and a FA. I wouldn't be giving up prospects in order to obtain him so I wouldn't be as worried about resigning him. I have Juan Uribe as my SS of the future! I think you are underestimating Jose's defense. In 143 games at SS last year Jose had 20 errors. In 76 games at SS Carlos Guillen had 11. Another 32 games he played 3rd base with 3 more errors. That is 14 errors in 35 games less than Jose. Jose's range factor was 4.63 and his fielding percentage was .969. Carlos Guillen's fielding percentage at SS was .963 and his range factor at SS ws 4.12. Jose is actually a very good defensive SS. He gets no credit for it at all. I don't see the upgrade you do.
  15. Good point, but Carlos Guillen is gone after this year. He is a FA and able to go wherever he wants. Would the White Sox resign him? He is also 28, so what he has done is pretty much what he is going to do. There is no more upside. What you see is what you get. What you get is a decent player both offensively and defensively. Nothing spectacular. Not much power. With Jose you have a left handed at bat with good power for a SS. Plus, contrary to what people think, he is a very good fielding SS. So you would have to give up a couple prospects for what most likely is a minor upgrade and you would have to hope to resign him for the future. For what? A couple million in savings? What then would you do with that couple million? Put it in your pocket? Spend it on what?
  16. I see your point jester. It is a very good one in fact. That deal may not turn out to be so small when it is all said and done. The Tigers traded away a player by the name of Juan Gonzalez. He is a single A SS who some think highly of. Carlos Guillen is a good player, but they must have been asking too much from us because I think there were rumors of us obtaining him. Either that or we were asking them to take on Valentin and his entire contract in return. Good post jester, good point.
  17. Just like the A's? i.e. Giambi, Tejada..... Seattle? ARod, Griff, RJ? Other teams are able to do it. We should too.
  18. Look at the SS around the league and look at Jose's stats. You tell me how much he is worth as a SS. That money is spent about right most likely. The one deal I look at is the Konerko deal. That one hurts. 8 mill a year just because he had a great 1st half. Can anyone give examples of how KW can spend more wisely? I think he has done a decent job in that department if you take away the Konerko deal.
  19. You are right. Buehrle is not being paid a lot of money either. There is no reason to give a quality lefty away unless we are getting a lot of young talent in return, which the Yankees don't have. I highly doubt Buehrle is going anywhere. That is just absurd.
  20. I think you are correct. Plus I believe the Rangers are paying part of ARod's salary so the Yanks don't go over the 200 million dollar mark. Do the Yanks take even a bigger tax hit if they hit the 200 million mark? I didn't completely understand why they wanted to specifically stay under that mark. Thank you, I will now hang up and listen for my answer.
  21. Correctamundo!!!!!!!!!! Plus I remember him as a selfish ballplayer with us. I remember when he was asked to bunt to move the player over. He kept on trying to bunt for a hit and eventually fouled out. Sacrifice yourself and advance the runner. Very selfish.
  22. s*** Rex, that was great. Good post. How the hell did I miss that?
  23. I see what you an Aboz are saying. Usually when prospects are traded for the names you guys are talking about they are usually more ready to become major leaguers. They are not right out of the draft or low level minor leaguers. I can see a team dumping salary, but for Odalis Perez or Carlos Beltran they better get something better than a low level minor leaguer. Didn't they trade MIke Lowell? Derek Jeter, Pettite, Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada, Alfonso Soriano, Mariano Rivera are all from their system. I am sure there are more that I am missing. Fact is they do produce good players.
  24. No problem. I believe there has not been a team without a lefty in the rotation to win the series in quite so time. That is one of the points people point to when looking at the scrubs rotation.
  25. Everyone here keeps saying they are going to trade for what they need. Please explain to me what they are going to trade. Their minor league system is decimated. They have virtually nothing anyone wants. Definately not for a Carlos Beltran or a Odalis Perez.
