  1. That may be true, it may not be true about KWs expectations. It still doesnt change how the Dodgers will view our situation.
  2. Losing Robert Person makes us even more desperate for a starter? I don't think so. He was a challenger for the 5th spot or a bullpen spot. No one was even sure he would make it on the team or not. This doesn't affect our desperation for a starter at all. I doubt Danny Wright starts. I think they like him in the bullpen. I thought Burkett was signed already, or was that just rumor? Is Pedro Astacio healthy? May as well take a chance on him if he is. It doesn't hurt at this time.
  3. I understand your point, but there are many that can go the other way as well. How much better off were the Rangers trading Carl Everett in the middle of the year as opposed to the beginning? I wouldn't compare Ray Durham and El Duque to Maggs, but that is just me. The only way Maggs' value goes down is if he gets injured. Even if he is having a bad year his value doesn't go down much if at all and we ask for the same thing we are asking now. If he does have a better year than before then his value is really high and we can ask for more. The only thing we fear in a situation like this is an injury and Maggs has never suffered a severe injury, so I think our odds are pretty good.
  4. Actually it was rumored that a lot of pitchers have. One of the biggest names mentioned was Eric Gagne.
  5. Your right Jim, under Manuel they seemed to have discounted those games early in the year by calling it a marathon not a sprint. It has come to bite them in the butt in the past. I don't think Ozzie will stand for that. I think and hope he will get this team off to a better start. Manuel always gave the team a built in excuse. I don't think it will be the same under Ozzie. We will soon find out.
  6. Runelvys was good in the beginning and then injured. Jose Lima was unbelievable, he is gone. Have you looked at their staff? It is not very good at all. Our line ups should match up well. If you then match up our pitching staffs I think the Sox have the advantage there. That is without a 4th or 5th starter. I can't believe people here would be more optimistic about a KC team with just as many holes than our own team. Come on people! Even though we didn't do much this offseason we are still a good team, definately just as good as KC if not better.
  7. Yes I would loose all premise to my argument, but the fact is he didn't do it. It is an accomplishment that shouldn't be too much to ask from a 11-14 million dollar a year player. That is all I am saying. He may have missed time but he still had over 600 ABs so it wasn't significant enough. Everyone plays hurt, it is a long season. I didn't see much of him coming through in the clutch last year. I remember a lot of double plays though.
  8. Ridiculous. I remember one year that Sosa came in 20 lbs heavier with all muscle. I combine that with his latest statement that this is the first year he has started working out before December and I know he was or is on roids. You can't gain 20 lbs of muscle in just 3 months without the help of steroids. It is just impossible.
  9. They still have nothing in the rotation and McDougal was awful down the stretch. Their pitching is going to kill em.
  10. If you do want to go by that argument , then how do you explain both Thomas and Lee going over 100 RBI then? Lee was moved all over the lineup and still managed over 100 RBI. There is no excuse for Magglio not to have done it. Stop trying to make excuses for him. Chavez and Tejada both did it. Who was leading off on the top of the As lineup, Mark Ellis? This argument just doesn't hold water. I am by no means trying to say Maggs sucks.I am saying he better have a better year though or he can kiss his money good bye. I would not pay 14 million a year for the guy.
  11. Yeah and so do all the people that didn't like Mark Grace because he never hit 100 RBI. He was 9 away one year, 8 another and 2 away yet again. The point is he didn't do it and he was the #4 hitter the entire season with over 600 at bats for a pretty damn good lineup with 29 HRs. He should have had 100 RBI. One away or not, he didn't do it.
  12. The # 3 + 4 hitter in todays game should hit 100 or more RBI. There is no excuse not to unless he is injured for a significant amount of time or the offense is awful. In Magglios case neither of these situations fit. How the hell do you get 606 ABs and hit 29 homers in the middle of a good white sox line up and don't get at least 100 RBI? And he wants 14 million over 5 seasons? GIVE ME A FREAKING BREAK!!!
  13. I think Steff hit the nail on the head here. You can't really trade him now as his trade value is not at it's peak. If you can hold out until the trade deadline and Maggs is having a good year then his price will be much higher and we will have more teams after him, most likely. You will get the most for him at that time. I also don't believe he will be cautious out there. When you are cautious and worried about getting hurt then you do get hurt. He is going to go balls out this year to put up the best numbers he can as that is how he will get a big contract. I would really doubt that Maggs plays it cautious. His stock will be much higher at the trading deadline with more teams looking to add another big bat to the lineup. By that time we may also know if someone else is ready to assume his position (Reed?). That way we can trade him away for the pitching we need. I wouldn't be opposed to that Seattle trade if it is true, other than that I think we should wait until the deadline.
  14. From what I have read the Yanks want Beltran. They will go after him either at the trading deadline or after the year as a free agent. They would move Bernie to DH or LF to keep him from getting injured all the time.
  15. I thought he actually agreed to it. Buck Weaver is the one that never agreed to anything. All Weaver did was know about it. That is bulls***. His name should definately be cleared of the Black Sox Scandal. He was totally against it from the start.
  16. Damn that is funny. Pee and poop cracks me up. Garland was in the cub organization, but technically he was never a cub.
  17. I understand what your saying. However, there were many times last year that Gammons would have a number of teams interested in a player. Then the player would sign or be traded and the player wouldn't end up on any of the the teams he listed. Such as the Bartolo Colon, he was listed to going to a couple teams, the White Sox were never listed. That is wrong. This Bruce Levine thing was not being reported as rumor. He was reporting it as fact. He reported that the trade TALKS for Arod and Manny were on again. In FACT they were never on again when he reported that. All sources denied it, yet he still reported that they were talking. That is wrong. I do understand what your saying. I do understand reporting rumors is not reporting facts. Sometimes, such as the ARod talks, are reported as fact and not rumored. He never said the trade talks are rumored to be on again. He said trade talks are on again.
  18. Ok, you make some good points. I don't think that Dan Wright will be a nobody. I think he has the stuff. I agree last year he sucked ass, until he was moved to the pen. I think he can actually be really good out of the pen. I have heard the rumor of Konerko's hip. I have never heard this confirmed though. If it is indeed true then I would also give him away for nothing just to rid myself of the salary. Hip injuries can be really bad. If they ever asked for Reed/Cotts/Honel/Sweeney, then the talks end right there. There wouldn't be another word spoken if those names are mentioned. Not for OP!
  19. I think someone mentioned that or at least implied it. He swings at everything but makes contact.
  20. That is what I was thinking as well. I would really like to have Travis Lee if either Thomas or Konkerko left. Boras is his agent, as another poster mentioned, so that could put a damper on things.
  21. Thank you guys for your opnion on Simon. Again, I haven't seen much of him and was just curious why some people would like to see him in a white sox uniform. The little bit that I saw of him last year I really wasn't impressed. Thanks again!
  22. Brando, what are you thinking my man? You get some good ideas, but all that for Perez? Wright will be a solid bullpen guy. I would love to see what Pacheco can do. Konerko I could live with, but not those two guys plus Konerko. Not even one of them plus Konerko. Would you make that deal just to get rid of Paulie's salary? If that is what you are thinking then I can understand it a bit. That is just a bit too much for OP if you ask me.
  23. Why is everyone pushing for Simon? I didn't see much from him the last few years. Please give me your opinions of him. What makes him such a good replacement for Konerko/Thomas? Thanks guys!
