QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 08:11 PM) This isnt really hindsight, everyone was upset at the deal at the time and everyone thought more of Young than Anderson. That being said people werent nearly as down on Anderson as they are now either just between the two. If Ken Williams seriously thought Anderson was a better prospect than I'm gonna call for his firing. I was under the impression they had wanted Young and the deal wouldn't have been done with BA. I decided if the Sox had to have another starter I could live with it but jesus, if its true what a f***ing horrible move (and I would have said the exact same thing at the time of the trade and likely did say that they better not have given up Young instead of Anderson). Plus, lets not act as if Young was a diamond in the rought, immediately after being dealt he was ranked by BA as one fo the better prospects in baseball and was already in the plans to be the Dbacks everyday CFer (a spring training injury slowed down that process a bit, IIRC). Geeze I want to vomit based on this.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 07:32 PM) I and others here have heard stories of Shines NOT being liked by the minor league guys and the young players. fathom has heard the opposite, starting with Sean Tracey. I don't know -- I don't have sympathy for Tracey, for one, and I don't care if Shines got along with our minor leaguers. Those stories are flat bs. I know Shines had some stuff his first go around a long time ago, but he's emerged as guy that is absolutely loved by his players. The guy is going to be a future major league manager and I assume he's gone because the Sox know that and want a different skill set or so I hope. I also know Shines was absolutely livid about the way Ozzie handled the Tracey situation (as sean Tracey is a guy that was loved by his teammates and coaches). And I say this because I've interviewed many of Shines former players and have heard them say nothing but nice things about him.

I want Barry Bonds in the Cell
Chisoxfn replied to Punch and Judy Garland's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 01:33 PM) Just like how no team would want Terrell Owens. TO has never broken the law that I know of (when I say break the law I don't refer to having a beer before 21 or driving over the speed limit, which is something everyone has done). He may be a problem in the clubhouse, but aside from that you don't have to worry about him. Bonds has had a lot of legal baggage around him and if he threatened someone thats different than TO calling out or slamming McNabb. -
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 05:36 PM) Cmon Angels, you guys better get the rally monkey going when you're at home. The Angels are up against the wall, but I think everyone pretty much expected them to lose game 1. They were hit with a rash string of injuries late in the season and I doubt they will be overcome them. Escobar is gonna have to throw out his A game tonight because if they can pull this out I do think they will win Sunday's game at home against the BoSox (Weaver vs DiceK) and be in a nice shape knowing that they could afford a second loss to Beckett.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 10:31 AM) yeah, that was my favorite part of the package. I was psyched to see that. It will be nice to have early access to BP, just the season holders in the crowd. That is cool, but I still think stadiums should open up earlier a couple times a week to allow fans to do that on a regular basis. I know Arte Moreno opened up the gates earlier when he took over as owner and that you are able to get into the park early enough to catch a good chunk of Angels batting practice. Heck, even if it was just once a week (maybe on a Friday or Saturday night). They have the employees there early anyway and they'd get some extra concession sales during this span (even though most people wouldn't go to it, there is still a good enough chunk of people that would go that early).

I've quickly learned that for me its more about time and a job that I like than money. Don't get me wrong, money is important but there comes a salary (for me its starts right around 100K based on current standards) where at that point, anything more that involves a lot more work wouldn't be worth it to me. Right now I work 50 hours a week on a pretty regular basis and its not the type of work you can sleepwalk through. I pretty much am working hard or busting my butt just to get the stuff done in that window (a lot of people where I work put in a lot more time). Bottom line, give me a job where I make 100K, don't have a brutal commute, enjoy the work and work a pretty standard 40HR job and I'd be exstatic (and I know I'll be at that point 3 years from now). If it takes me two to three years of harder times (currently) than so be it. Hell even now I still at least have the perks of good vacation and working with great people.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 10:18 AM) I'm pretty sure both Toews and Ruutu are out for tonight. That's a bummer. Havy is supposed to play though. Ruutu will be makes his season debut on Saturday and I'm not sure about when Toews will debut (Talon says he wants to play it safe with him).

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 10:35 AM) Well... that might be worth a gamble. How is he defensively? I really don't know, at this point in his career. I don't mean 5 years ago, I mean now. I actually think teams jump on Hunter/Rowand before Jones goes and at that point Jones contract may actually fall into the 13-15M range and if you got him to a 5 year deal at the low end of that it could turn into a steal. He's a stellar power hitter who will post an average OBP while driving in runs and hitting HR's (his numbers should be good in the cell) and playing above average defense in CF (which is a tough position to find production from). I truly think adding Jones (even if it meant the club had to move Konerko or someone else) would be a stellar move (assuming he's healthy).

I'd let Eckstein play 2nd, add Furcal and give Richar a steady dose of at bats in a platoon/developmental type role. It gives you two vets that are solid and Eckstein at 2nd would be very strong defensively, imo. Plus I think you could get Eckstein for a short term deal which means he would walk after a year and you'd hope you would sign Furcal to an extension (with Richar finally sliding in as the starter). Note: This is if the White Sox do not believe Richar is quite ready. Either way I'd prefer Eckstein over Uribe, but I would really have zero problem with Eckstein being one of the top 2 hitters and playing 2nd with Furcal being the other. It gives you a good OBP, good speed, and that defensive duo would be very good. Plus Furcal has pretty solid pop for a top of the order hitter. Its older than I would like, but it would be pretty damn solid. If financial issues were a worry or if Kenny wanted to get younger, he could always move Konerko for a couple young prospects, one of which could play center (or he could move Konerko and use a chunk of that money earmarked for him on Andruw Jones who would replace Paulie in the lineup and play a premium defensive position). You than use Konerko to acquire (for the most part) young pitching prospects or position prospects that you could use to replace Garland/Contreras (as if you moved those two, plus Paulie and added Jones/Furcal/Eckstein and numerous prospects I think you'd be in pretty good shape). Furcal Eckstein Dye Thome Jones AJP Crede Fields * Insert First Baseman Here (you could even put Fields here and insert in a young prospect which was acquired...or if the move was with the Angels Casey Kochman would go where AJP with Crede being by Kochman and than AJP and than Fields). That lineup would have massive power, high strikeouts (Thome/Fields/Jones) but would also be pretty solid defensively.

I doubt we will see Gonzo removed from the 40, but I'd have no problem if he was removed from it.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 09:57 PM) The show got better as it went on - even I was turned off a bit by the first week but I kept with it and it got a decent following. Having it on Fridays is going to hurt I'd imagine. And yeah, winning state in season one was kinda meh. I started following later on and it definitely got better and better. I don't get why it was moved to Friday's though, luckily my DVR can stay home on Friday and I'll just watch it some other day.

QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 09:38 AM) I figured they would get something worked out. Either that or they would buy time on an HD network. Kind of like how USA bought time on Universal HD for the Masters. The Trib indicated they will be launching the TBSHD feed (comast that is) in time for the Cubs game on Wednesday.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 09:34 AM) Do you have COX cable down there? Ya. They are tremendous. I'm lucky though because Orange County is one of the area's where Cox rolls out stuff first (so we are always the first to get there newest technology/programming).

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 02:56 PM) Wait till DOCIS 3.0 is adopted across the cable providers in the next few years, think of broadband internet connection above 100mbs. The comcast tests were at 160mbs. At that point you can do IP TV. Verizon is laying out its Fios across the US and that is supposed to be stellar. You also have a lot of cable companies that are now to the point where some areas are pretty much running straight off fiber optics and in those instances you will have limitless possibilities (although they currently are still behind Direct/Dish in terms of how many HD channels they carry, however the quality of HD channels on a good cable outlet is RIDICULOUSLY better than that of sattellite).
-
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 01:11 PM) DirecTV > Cable, Dish Network, anything else Maybe programming wise, but it is a lot more expensive. Plus on Cable I get a superior HD quality (Dish/DirectTV both have far less HDTV quality as they have to compress there HD feeds far more than what good cable companies do) & on Demand. Oh and I get the latest and greatest DVR's and boxes without having to drop 200 bucks on just one box.
