  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 08:57 AM) Just IIRC, when Bartolo came back, his fastball was almost right where it was beforehand. Yeah, he had some pretty good outings late in the season for the Angels. I have no idea how his health is but for 5M you could make far worse signings. I'd be all over picking up Bartolo and moving Garland/Contreras for other stuff with the plan being to have Colon in there as a 4th starter with Danks battling Floyd and than when/if Bart goes down you have your other young guys who slide in. Use Garland/Contreras to just load the team with young position players/starters (as well as some more good young arms that can pitch in the rotation or pen). It won't happen but I'd be all about it (plus signing Hunter of course).
  2. Erin Andrews....by a long shot.
  3. Iowa with a shot to become bowl eligible this weekend. Come on Hawkeyes...keep the improvement and winning streak going against those Golden Gophers.
  4. Tyrus had a great game and the Bulls got the first win. Better yet, next Saturday I'm gonna be at the Bulls/Clips game...WHOOO..can't wait. This Sunday....I'll be in Oakland hopefully not getting stabbed to see the Bears/Raiders game.
  5. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 07:55 PM) I have a feeling that Kenny Williams would have already had this deal done if this is all it takes to get Cabrera in a White Sox uniform. If not, he should be fired NOW and I am not a KW hater as many of you know. This is a no brainer. He is possibly the best hitter in baseball and plays good in the field. You have so many possible options if you do this trade. Keep or trade Crede. Keep or trade Konerko. Keep or trade Garland. We would finally be adding a known commodity - a known superstar - in the prime of his career with 2 years left on his contract. NO BRAINER!!!!!!!! The Sox would than just swing Konerko to fill any holes that Cabrera's move created and than give Cabrera the largest contract in White Sox history. Hell, if they were able to move a starting pitcher as well (for some talent) they'd probably be able to bring Cabrera and Konerko in. And yes, I'd make that deal in a heartbeat...a heartbeat.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 08:34 PM) I'd take a whole lineup of Burrells. I wouldn't. That team would go absolutely nowhere. You'd have a guy with decent power and a great OBP who can't hit for an average, is horrid defensively, and can't run the bases. Oh yes, please get me a one dimensional OBP player. I'm not saying I don't like the idea of Burrell but it doesn't make much sense to me given the Sox needs (ie a legitimate 1-2 hitter to have in front of Dye/Paulie/Thome). Those three guys aren't going anywhere or at least it wouldn't appear they are so the Sox really don't need to go out and spend a bunch of there available funds on someone like Burrell for a year (like I said the logic of a Crede for Burrell deal is a winning deal for the Sox but Burrell isn't what the Sox need to win). The Sox need some younger players that will get better, play great defense, provide speed, and get on base at the top of the order. Get me some a solid core of baseball players and I'll be happy. Don't give me these guys with cherry picked stats that make them sound way better than they are (not really slamming Burrell as he's a decent player, hell realistically his stats don't differ much from Paulie's career stats). Give me complete all around players (not superstars, just complete players as I feel the Sox have enough pop...could they use more sure, but first they need to solidify CF and SS and the 1/2 spots in the order with Richar handling the 9 spot and Fields at 3rd or LF). If Fields is at 3rd than the club can opt to go after another power bat (preferably a lefty imo) for left or target a guy that is in a tough spot and use him in LF with a Mack or so as the backup (whose definitely capable of playing LF at a decent level for a full season).
  9. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 06:00 PM) Really? It's hyperbole? When the Sox signed Erstad, I think I saw articles by Phil Rogers, Mark Gonzalez, Scott Merkin etc etc saying the same damn thing. "He played football, he's a winner, he's a great veteran presence." Apparently I was just imagining that, though. Apparently the Erstad signing wasn't as how I have it pegged (That's sarcasm). The rest of your post has nothing to do with what I said. I was debating the person -- you, maybe? -- who said Anderson didn't get jerked around. He did, he got jerked around in 2006 and I'd argue that it cost us a ballgame or two. Yeah, you're probably right that Anderson won't turn out to be anything better than a 4th outfielder but that doesn't mean he was handled correctly. Far from it. For what it is worth I've never ever heard anyone ever say a bad thing about Darin Erstad. He's not a starter by all means anymore but he is a good baseball player (and I say that not meaning he's an all star but with the point that he knows how to play the game). He handles himself like a complete pro and just meshes with everyone out there. All you had to do was listen to anyone in the Angels organization who uttered how much Erstad was going to help the Sox (I think I recall Garret Anderson saying multiple times over the past few years about how important Erstad always was to the Angels and than this past season I remember him saying how much Erstad would help the Sox if he was near healthy). The guy is as respected a pro as there is in the game so while you don't like him and he doesn't have the best stats the Sox aren't the only org to like the intangibles of Erstad.

I think a ton of rumors/news is going to come out next week, starting on Monday.
  11. I'd make that move in a heartbeat because it provides the Sox leverage in the outfield (they won't have to overpay for anyone) and if they do get one of the Cfers you just have Crisp play left and he'll be amongst the best defensive left fielders out there.
  12. Not so fast...play under review.
  13. Sharpley has all day and throws the TD pass. He could have probably ran it in too.
  14. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 03:00 PM) Announcer just said "This is the stuff of which Notre Dame legends are made" in reference to Sharpley's 4th and 14 completion. Um... you are 1-7 and playing Navy. And ND is 1-7. Sharpley has been better and ND probably wins a few more games if he was at the helm all season. Navy gets the TD in OT.
  15. Zibikowski will get a shot to run it back.
  16. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) Seriously what the hell is he thinking there. One of the dumbest coaching decisions I have ever seen. It is one thing if the kicker was hurt or if your kicker sucked and you had Brady Quinn and Smardtza/McKnight but this offense blows and he goes for it. HORRID.
  17. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 02:49 PM) ND going for it on 4th down despite being in FG range and Navy stops them. Awful decision by Weiss. And an amazing play by the Navy LB. Ya that was an awesome sack by the player. Games headed to OT (I love college fb OT). Come on Irish.
  18. what the f***. Weiss goes for it on 4th and 8 when they could have kicked a 42 YD field goal for the win. Terrible.
  19. Zibikowski with a nice return and the Irish are in business to retake the lead.
  20. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 01:30 PM) Padres decline Mackowiak's option for 2008. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/base...mackowiak.0127/ Do the Sox pick him back up? I'd love to have him as a 4th option, especially if the Sox find a young guy to start somewhere in the outfield (ie a Melky Cabrera or someone else).
  21. What if the Sox offered up Crede and a bullpen arm like Thornton (whom I'd think the Yanks would love to have) plus a prospect for Melky and I think you have a deal. In fact you may be able to get Melky & Betemeit for that sort of package and if the Yanks want Uribe (as a replacement for Betemeit) you include him in the deal (I would think Juan would be a moveable piece, albeit he would have little trade value for a lot of teams.
  22. f*** yes....I'm watching my recorded version of the Iowa/NU game and damn is Christensen kicking ass. I realize the game is over (and I have no idea what the final score is) but right now for me Iowa just took a 10 point lead on a Simms TD. But damn, Christensen seems to be showing off the skills that made him a pretty highly touted recruit. He's really handled all the heat he's gotten for the poor offense all season and is really starting to make strides. So are the Hawkeyes freshman receiving core (good lord is that WR core going to be ridiculous next year if they get some of there suspended players back and this crop stays healthy). The Oline will be top notch with the only major question being who will run the ball for them next year (and what will happen with the defense since the defense is an older unit while the offense is pretty much all freshman/sophmores).
