QUOTE(tigerfan @ May 23, 2007 -> 11:00 PM) Little off topic, but I miss the old 1st and 10 with Woody and Skip. They had the perfect chemistry those two. Now it's just not the same, particularly since they seem to be in no hurry to pick a replacement. As for the NBA stuff, 3 words: Inside the NBA. Best studio show period. I just miss Woody Paige. That man is freaking hillarious.

QUOTE(BearSox @ May 23, 2007 -> 08:24 PM) Let's see Gaudin's numbers come July... I am not sold on him. I haven't been impressed at all by his stuff. It shouldn't be much of a surprise...Gaudin pitched well. I wouldn't exactly write the offense off though, its been making some great strides fundementally (and the results have shown, sans today). Garland really battled tonight and probably shouldn't have been out there in the 7th (wouldn't have matter either way I understand he was leaving Jon in to try and reward him hoping he'd have an easy 7th and the offense would somehow pick him up). He's really proving that he can go 6/7 and keep the squad in the game even when he is truly off his game (the guy has been stellar for the club all season).

Danks gets some love from Baseball America
Chisoxfn replied to WhiteSoxfan1986's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If Danks and Dice K had identical numbers I would guarantee you that Danks would win the rookie of the year (I don't care if Dice-K is playing for Boston, the media just doesn't like voting for the guys coming from another professional league...they will do it, but only if the player is considerably better than the other rookies). And by no means am I saying Danks will win the rookie of the year. We can start discussing that after the opposition has faced him a couple times (I love watching the guy pitch though and I can't imagine what he'll do as he continues to gain faith in his secondary stuff and improve his command). That and pick up a nice cutter/2seamer to run in onto the hands of righties. -
Official 2006-2007 NBA Discussion Thread
Chisoxfn replied to AssHatSoxFan's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 22, 2007 -> 07:54 PM) Atlanta should feel extremely lucky. Because their pick finished in the top 3, they get to keep it. Phoenix would be steaming right now. And really for the Hawks, it's a perfect oppurtunity to get the Oden / Conley jr. combo. They have the 11th pick as well. They can trade up from #3 to #1 to get Oden, and then pick Conley at #11. They do that, they've got quite a good young developing lineup in Oden, Josh Smith, Williams (the #2 pick from a few years back, think that's his name), Joe Johnson and Conley, with Speedy Claxton, Josh Childress, Zaza Pachulia and Shelden Williams. Of course that's if Portland decided they wanted to trade down. For say a 2009 1st rounder, I'd say they'd probably do it, and settle with Yi Jianlian, Brandon Wright or Al Horford. Boston will probably trade their pick for a veteran. What Memphis are going to do I don't know. Maybe trade Gasol, and get even more picks, and keep developing that youth of theirs. Whoa....Portland would be nuts to move down just for an additional first rounder. Maybe if they got a couple young athletes in return plus the first rounder but god it would be horrificly dumb to give up Oden for an extra first round pick the following year (not when Oden is the best center to come up in years). QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 22, 2007 -> 08:53 PM) Would Memphis still be interested in the Bulls' first round pick? I still have my eye on Gasol, unless there's a chance that Hibbert falls to the Bulls. Ninth overall + Gordon + Nocioni probably wouldn't get it done, would it? If that got the deal done I'd be all for it, as long as the Bulls could attract someone with the mid-level to bring in as there starting 2 guard. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 22, 2007 -> 09:59 PM) Well, the idea of getting a big man and running your offense through a big man is that it opens up shots for people. I don't like having an offense that primarily relies on the three ball. Ben Gordon would be missed, but you gain a lot on the defensive end just because Gordon is off the floor. Skiles can still run a motion type offense, you just have to run different types of cuts when the big man gets the ball on the block. I think this could help Deng a lot, too. Finally, It's easier to find a guy who will bury some threes than it is to find a guy who can play as well as Gasol can with his back to the basket. Onto the draft -- if the Bulls keep the pick, ideally I'd love to have one of Hibbert or Horford. If not, I think Brewer would fit very well on the Bulls. Screw any wing players in the draft, unless of course the Bulls deal Gordon or Nocioni for a big that they like (and than we draft a wing player). I would absolutely be stoked if Horford fell all the way to 9 (but I'd be stunned if it happened). I think its more likely that Spencer Hawes falls (and he may be a bit over-rated for a freshman, but still a solid player). I'd love either Wright from UNC, Horford or Hibbert. Although I must say I would settle with Noah (even though I think he is almost a Ben Wallace clone (Because in the long term, 1-2 years I expect Wallace to get dealt again and at that point in a worse case scenario, Noah could fit in). The only reason I even mention Noah though is because I wouldn't pass on his potential/upside/athletism if those other guys were off the board. -
Wonder if KW will make a pitch for Percival...
Chisoxfn replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 22, 2007 -> 07:58 PM) According to Ken Rosenthal, former Angels and Tigers closer Troy Percival may make a comeback attempt. Percival's agent says the chances are 50/50, and that he was clocked at 97 recently. As Rosenthal says, someone will give him a shot if he does come back. Percival will likely decide today, and he'll call the Angels first. Percival turns 38 in August. He received an ill-advised two-year, $12MM deal from Detroit prior to the 2005 season, and ended up pitching 25 innings over the life of the contract. from the always-entertaining mlbtraderumors.com Don't like the looks of that Angels pen if Percival is back to his old self, although the White Sox always did fairly well against him. I'd give him a look either way. I assume he's feeling really good and most of the reason for his struggles late in his career had to do with a hip condition (IIRC). The main reason I'd want him is because we have a very young pen and I think it could really really be beneficial to have a veteran around the bunch and there aren't many guys classier you could have in the back of the pen. Maybe Erstad can help the Sox get the front track (if the Angels pass on him). And geeze, if he's throwing 97 I see no reason he wouldn't be able to get guys out at a half decent rate (or at least a rate better than Sisco). -
QUOTE(3E8 @ May 21, 2007 -> 09:32 PM) What a fall from grace for Carl. Don't feel too bad, he made 45 million dollars during his professional career. I'll always love Carl for his dinosaur comments and firey attitude.

Well, this week Jason & Mario get a little harsh when they discuss the Sox. The first order of business was slamming the opinions of all Sox fans that are ready to waive the White flag in the middle of May. Once the slam-fest was finished, the duo got a little bit more calm and discussed the rotation, pen, horrific lineup and potential solutions to the lineup. Also, please note that our front page is under-going improvements and because of such you can only download or stream the show but the front page should be back in the next week. In addition, we apologize for what was a jumpy show. Download/Stream the Show

What is a sty? Is that when you have a thing of blood in your eye (or at least it looks like blood).

It was needed, so here it is. Whatever random gaming discussion you want to have, have it here (unless there is something deserving of a new thread, in which case create one).

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 21, 2007 -> 06:04 PM) We are hammering the ball early tonight. Hopefully that is a sign of things to come. They looked pretty good at the plate the entire weekend in Chicago.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 21, 2007 -> 05:51 PM) By the way, KW, please bring us a REAL LFer! It makes so much sense...Kenny has to do it (the only question is if teams are willing to give up a guy this early).

Brian Anderson hurt his shoulder.

I Think there is legitimate reason to at least speculate that he could be on the verge of getting deal in a deal that brings the Sox back more than one guy that would fit on the 40 man roster (or it could just be an injury). Either way I like speculating.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 21, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) What purpose would Brady Clark serve? If we're not going to play Sweeney (and I understand the club's reluctance) everyday, then the player should clearly be better than a platoon of Ozuna and Mackowiak. I don't see how Brady Clark fits that bill. We might as well get a younger player with some upside, rather than recycling more veterans like Mack, Everett and Erstad. Note that I said they tried to acquire him before the season started (back when Pods and Brian Anderson were still on the active roster)

QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ May 21, 2007 -> 01:00 PM) I think the Sox want no part of Rocco, he has had more injury problems than Pods and Erstad combined. It it was too early to find a good partner to trade with because too many teams feel they are still in contention for the postseason. I think that viable options are Coco Crisp - whom I would rather not have, Matt Kemp, Lastings Milledge, James Loney, Jeff Baker or Fred Lewis.. in other words someone who is being blocked or is blocking someone else from seeing the field. Each team, except the Giants, would probably want SP in return, the Giants may be satisfied will bullpen help. One thing I can tell you is that the Sox have inquired about Rocco in the past and have tried to work out deals for him (this was as recent as a couple weeks before the regular season began). I have no idea if they have had any talks since. I also know the Sox talked to the Brewers about Brady Clark, but were unable to work out an agreement and he eventually went to the Dodgers.

QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ May 21, 2007 -> 12:16 PM) Good question, papers this morning talked about Bret Prinz who has some ML experience although most of it isn't good. I am pretty sure Guillen and Williams are about out of patience with Sisco, just a hunch. Plus I think they want to stretch Sisco out in order to get him more comfortable with his new arm release as well as further develop some additional pitches (that and your right, they are frustrated with his lack of command).
-
QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ May 21, 2007 -> 12:06 PM) I'm not sure why everyone keeps saying $6M for Erstad in 2008. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpag...MLB&id=2252 It's $3.5 million option for the Sox for 2008. If he gets 600 AB's in 2007, Erstad gets the $6M but the White Sox still have the option, i.e. they can decline to pay him $6M and then they'd pay a buyout. I suppose Erstad could get to 600 AB's this year but I doubt it. He's played in 39 of 40 games so far and has 151 AB's. So I guess he is right on track for 600 but he'd have to play in just about every game the rest of the year. Possible, but doubtful. What is much more likely is Erstad gets something less than 600 AB's in 2007 and the Sox pick up his option for $3.5M for 2008. Excellent news. I didn't remember the 6 million but so many were talking about it so I bought into it. I think we will see Erstad back for 3.5 or so.
-
I think Carl Everett or another bat is on the way. That or they are going to call up Brett Printz to replace someone in the bullpen. I should point out that Printz was pretty highly thought of a few years back and from what I've heard he's been flashing some good stuff down in Charlotte.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2007 -> 10:09 AM) Seriously? Nolan Ryan after his early years, turned into one of the best pitchers in the history of the game. Once he learned the circle change and lost something out of his fastball, he really learned how to pitch. And Clemens is the the best pitcher over the last 20 years (including when Ryan pitched). The only guy I think was better than Roger was Pedro (but Clemens has been dominant for longer). I would also take Pedro in his prime over Ryan. Both Clemens and Pedro were just superior pitchers (albeit Ryan had a better pure arm).

Both of those clubs will cool down but I still think the Tribe take the division.
