  1. So are the Sox playing a man short? If Gon is in Charlotte, who came up for him?
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 10:38 AM) I don't want to get into another Dunn argument though. Seriously...that is why I didn't say any more words (we've had enough Dunn arguments with those statties). I think the ultimate Dunn moment was back in Cincy last year after all the times the two of us ripped into Keith about how over-rated Dunn was and than he went 0 for the world against the Sox that series (stranding tons of runners, looking pathetic in the field, and being just plain old over-rated).
  3. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 10:23 AM) Adam Dunn is a very good offensive player. He has a .900 career OPS and his minor league numbers blow Josh Fields away. To say the Dunn is the worst Fields will do is just...I don't know...well, all I can say is that Dunn would be a very best case scenario for Fields performance. It's not like FIelds has insane power -- his numbers are fairly pedestrian for hitting Charlotte. I'd venture to say that Dunn is a very overrated baseball player. However, I'm not saying he's not valuable, but he's more valuable in the 6 spot. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 10:27 AM) Also, we shouldn't make the same mistake that we did with BA, and not have a bona fide backup. We should have someone who is older and can shed some light for Fields, and when Fields is slumping or having an off day, you can put this vet at 3B. Jeff Cirillo immediately pops into my head. But I don't know how long the Twins have him signed for. I think the key is just having a guy like Mack stick around and basically give him a lot of playing time during spring at both 3rd and the corner outfielders but go with the idea that he will be the primary backup at third base.
  4. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 10:22 PM) Agreed. I think it may be time to start thinking of extending him again rather than even messing with Buehrle. I still think Garland and Buehrle are two guys you continue to build around and extend, stick with Vazquez another two years and move Contreras in the off-season with Danks hopefully ready to be the #4 next year and Gio or someone else entering as the #5. Than when Vazquez is ready to be dealt, you hope another guy is ready to earn a spot in the rotation.
  5. I do agree with you that it would be nice to infuse the team with a lot of young talent via a trade of Crede and Dye (and I still think if you do ti right you could still contend, assuming you work on building up the pen as well).
  6. I didn't get home till about 1:30 AM yesterday, but I got to see the Titans take care of business and sweep through to the Super Regionals. It actually turns out we may have lucked out because Long Beach State (who didn't deserve a one seed over UCI, but Long Beach has the better facility to host...ie holds more seats) lost and now Fullerton will get to host the super regional over UCLA (we have a better RPI, history, facility, and won the season series against them so that will give us home field...now we got to take care of business). Keep it up Titans....great pitching so far and more surprisingly some fantastic offense (looks like the bats may be heating up at the right time). I will be in Vegas over the weekend, however, if there is a game on Monday in Fullerton...I will a be there. Sorry about Mizzu Dan. I was hoping we'd somehow meet up in the College World Series.
  7. Gio and Danks have the ability to be pretty special (not Liriano/Santana special, but still pretty damn good) and I wouldn't deal either of them.
  8. I haven't watched much of Abreu this year and I know he's been bad, but assuming his tools are still there for the most part I would not be opposed to this move. However, it would be under the circumstances that the Sox would get some serious cash and that the deal would potentially be part of a bigger swap (with the Sox at least getting one additional prospect or player that could help them out now or in the future). I also buy on the Yanks considering to make the move just to unload Abreu (plus I think Bobby would play better on the southside than he does in New York). Again this is on the basis that the Yanks would send substantial money Chicago's way (in no way do I think the move makes the Sox a better team today, but I do think it would allow them to ensure a better lineup for the next couple years).
  9. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 07:17 PM) An all-around solid game (ehh bullpen)---great job JG and offense! Garland is the f***ing man. He's been the best pitcher on the southside over the past 2 seasons (plus what has been of this season).
  10. Fields is really a different player from what he was about a season to a season and a half ago and he's still making consistent progress and improvements. I'm really starting to buy into Fields as a long term player who has a chance to be an all star (based on how well he continues to progress and improve, which really is what you want to see out of a good prospect with potential). All that said, it doesn't mean there won't be growing pains. I do think he'd post some good power numbers though (xtra base hits and homers) even though his average wouldn't be as good as you'd want it to be early on (and he'd have a good deal of k's).
  11. Nothing quite beats convincing the police to not throw one of your best buddies in jail.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 12:53 PM) Quick question: do you find no fault with Ozzie for blowing 10 games with late leads? I actually think this has been Ozzie's best year as a manager, albeit the last couple games have not been as good. Has he made some mistakes, sure, but every manager does, and I think the main issue with the blown 10 games is the fact that this is one of the worse pens in baseball over the past few years.
  13. Thornton/Jenks I don't mind. Logan is a solid Loogy and the rest is f***ing horrible right now. In Massett's defense he is never used, but jesus this is a f***ing awful pen...awful. Can we please get a veteran or two that could maybe help the youngsters out.
  14. For f*** sake...bring up Charlotte's pen and just keep Bobby. And for you b****es blaming Ozzie, what the f*** is he supposed to do....bring in a position player because whatever reliever he'll bring in (not named Bobby) is going to suck miserably. This is f***ing worse than that Boston bullpen by committee of a couple years ago. Good lord.
  15. The one thing about Fizer was he could always score and with ease. The problem was he was poor defensively and a bit undersized and the squad had Elton Brand. Overall it was just a bad situation. However, if he's healthy I know he can score when on so I wouldn't have a problem (I also remember him being a bit of a black hole once he got the ball).
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 10:48 AM) I saw more of an understanding of how to be a slap hitter by him last night than Pods has shown in years. That grounder he had in the hole that he easily beat us was very pretty. Ya, I absolutely loved how he just slapped it over there.
  17. I'll say one thing, it was fantastic to actually have an athlete in the lineup. Speed can do a lot of things (as long as you have some baseball skills to go with it) and in the first game I liked what I saw. However, one game doesn't mean jack so I hope it continues.
  18. Yeah...Fullerton takes care of business on day 1.
  19. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 02:43 PM) We tried putting Mack in CF last year, how did that work out. He cannot play CF. He is downright terrible there. Apparently you all don't realize that Jerry Owens would be worse out there.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ May 31, 2007 -> 07:02 PM) Prince Fielder has taken over the role from Bonds and Pujols as the most exciting player to watch bat. I realize he's having a crummy year, but there is absolutely no person I enjoy watching hit more than Manny Ramirez. The guy is freaking text-book. He drives the s*** out of the inside pitch and will wait on the outside pitch and spray it to right/right center.
  21. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 01:32 PM) ^^, and it's something Z does more often than not. Any team would love to have him. He's a dick off the field, too. But like you said it doesn't matter. Show me production between the lines and I'm happy to send in my $$. I wish our guys had a bit more of a chip on their shoulders. I think we need more guys like him and more athletes as well (same starting rotation) and we have a winner. The team isn't far away, problem is the moves that would have to be made are relatively ballsy ones and I don't know if Kenny will be able to find teams willing to make those type of trades at this point in the season.
  22. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 01:09 PM) In a heartbeat. Preach on...I may think he's a dick on the field, but he also cares about the game and I think that passion (while it can cause incidents like today's) is something that you can't teach and it truly is an asset.
  23. This teir of players could really be flip flopped (especially the 6 through 9 spot). In fact, there was some debate of moving a couple of these guys up into the 5 spot.
