QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 02:35 PM) I didn't understand it as two movies for a while after the advertising and promotion began. They did a really poor job conveying that clearly. Anyone else going to see ATHF:MFFT this weekend? I definitely plan on seeing it because I'm a huge fan of the TV series. Don't know whether it will be this weekend or not though.

I don't see a problem with it. In the same shoes I'd have done the exact same thing as Jose.

I'd just like any new banners to utilize that sick Soxtalk.com logo that is on the current one. Other than that I always welcome new banners.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 08:40 PM) I thought the episode was average for a Lost episode (which is still damn good) until the last 5 minutes. Wow. Fantastic ending. Haven't had one like that in quite a while. Ya, it looks like the final 5 and than the season finale are going to be amazing. I enjoyed this past weeks episode, especially after the last five minutes.

Sports Talk Hosts, Whatcha Looking For
Chisoxfn replied to Texsox's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
See Dan Patrick show (nothing is better). -
I got to see my first playoff hockey game tonight at the Honda Center and the atmosphere was really good and both teams came out sharp and intense for the first period and a half and than it seemed like there energies died and they started playing a real passive game as they just tried not to make mistakes. The Wild played good and there goalie came up huge, too bad he got checked by his own defense man with the end result being the game winning goal by the Ducks.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 06:55 PM) That's bad news about Harrell. If the surgery was nothing major he wouldn't be pitching in Rookie Ball in June. Exactly, unless of course he ended up having the surgery after reporting to camp this spring (which may have been the case in which case you are only talking about 2 months till he's back). Still it will pretty much set it back a full season which stinks.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 05:18 PM) Just a question... had Contreras pitched well on opening day or if you guys knew about these problems going on with him and his family right now, would you still have b****ed about him? Yes.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 04:27 PM) Hawk was in Boston last night for the reunion of the 1967? Red Sox. Yep, he will be back in the booth this weekend.

I think the tough spot is that Charlotte's rotation looks to be pretty deep so those guys would have to go somewhere for spots in the rotation to open up. And yes, this is a great thing to be talking about (since it means the org actually has some pitching depth). Harrell is another guy I'm keeping my eye on. He struggled in Bham but prior to that promotion the guy was just ridiculous at getting ground ball out after ground ball out.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 01:17 PM) Garland was at the same velocity he was at in April of last year. You can clearly see his velocity in 2005 and the end of 2006 ws higher. Just like Jenks gets in the heat. Exactly. Jenks is throwing as hard, if not harder at this stage of the season this season as he was last year so I don't get the concern. It should also be noted that he threw a very similar velocity when he first joined the organization down in AA during the 05 season (although at the time I know some people may have attributed that to him having to build up his strength after missing the prior season with arm problems but it could actually be that he's the type of guy that takes a bit longer to build his arm strength). His command of both his heater and breaking ball have been far better. I just don't see why people are always jumping off a bridge. Everything is relative and I've been very pleased with the start of this season (considering the tough schedule). The club should probably have two more wins (the game they blew against the Tribe and last nights game) but I expect the team to learn from those mistakes.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 09:42 PM) I vaguely remember this Marshall kid from last year. Strange, we had two kids in Marshall and Castro that were close to major league ready and neither of them ever made it into the hunt for the LHR spot in ST last year. Just shows you that baseball is all about scouting, at all levels. I don't know if a guy that was as old as Marhsall could be considered major league ready (considering he was kicking butt down in A ball last year). However, he has a gimmick motion and looks to throw strikes and get movement so there is a solid bet he turns into a decent loogy (of course I'm not a big fan of guys that project to pretty much only get lefties out).

question for Chsoxfn/all the californians...
Chisoxfn replied to BearSox's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 02:30 PM) Just kinda a random question, but how do the tv stations in california air all the Padres, Giants, A's, Dodgers, and Angels games? Here's how it works. In San Diego you get the Padres games and I don't know if you have access to the Dodgers/Angels games (without having the package). In LA & OC we do not have access to the Pads game, however we have two Fox sports channels that broadcast Angel/Dodger games so we can watch whichever game we chose. Up north in Oakland/San Fran it is very similar to how it is for the Angels/Dodgers in the sense that they can watch either team they want to (both games are televised). Its basically the same as how the Cubs/Sox are. You also have to realize that Oakland/San Fran are very close to each other but are about 9-10 hours away from Orange County (8-9 away from LA county). -
Isn't that his alma mater?

He'll go in the top 25 but Collison is the guy that I prefer of the two. However, I think Howland's guys will have good pro careers becuase they have been stressed the fundementals in college (he's such a good coach) and are all very good defensive players (you have to be if you play for coach Howland).

Blackhawks win top pick in NHL Entry draft
Chisoxfn replied to Steve9347's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 06:17 AM) This was such an awesome surprise. Along with the play of the young defensemen and some of the other youngsters throughout and at the end of the year, it really does seem like this team is primed to turn the corner next season. Hopefully, they'll keep Savvy around long enough to be a part of it--he is my all-time favorite hockey player both on and off the ice. Question for some of you guys: is there a hockey equivalent for Baseball Prospectus or Baseball America? I'm sure there is; so, what is the best stuff out there? Also, why has everyone cooled on Alexei Cherepanov and Angelo Esposito? From everything I've read, those two seem like the best options out there. hockeyfutures.com???? -
UNC's Hansbrough, Lawson returning
Chisoxfn replied to Palehosefan's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Wright has some really really nice low post moves. I know he'd look real good in a Bulls uni. -
My guess would be short season. The club was not happy with that magically drop in velocity Lin suffered after coming to America and I'd imagine they are a bit concerned and figure it be best to let him spend some time in extended spring training.

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 10:30 PM) Disappointing to hear thought that Honel was only clocked in the mid-80s yesterday. I'm rooting for him though, he's from my neck of the woods. I think the key is whether he had his old bite back on the curve. I figure the velocity isn't the huge measure at this point, simply because he's probably not at 100% strength so the important thing will be whether that velocity trends upward over the course of his next couple outings. If it does, maybe, just maybe he'll get his confidence back and get back to being the pitcher he once was.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 09:03 PM) Jason, have you seen Honel or talked to anyone who has seen Honel recently? I'm just wondering about the status of his 'stuff', i.e. if he's still throwing that knucklecurve we heard so much about when he was drafted. I'm going to let him make a couple starts and work his way into shape and than try to set up an interview and also contact some others to get an outside perspective on his stuff (I'm curious as well, but I think the key is how well he's doing after a few starts as opposed to just one.)

If Toby Hall was around I could give you a 40 man roster spot we could use, but in this case he isn't so oh well. But I think there are worse guys on the clubs 40 than Haigwood so I do think the club could upgrade. However, I don't expect the Sox to be the team that picks him up. Also something must not have clicked in Texas because when you have struggled as much as they have with pitching over the years you don't generally designate a guy like haigwood for assignment (albeit he doesn't have the stuff that flat out wows you).

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) f*** Aaron Rowand, seriously. Our starting pitching and bullpen (aside from Bobby) look good so far. Hopefully our 1-2 and our manager don't hold this team back. Bobby looks good. Has better control of his breaking stuff from what I've seen but he had a rough night. It happens. Garland threw a lot more like he did in 05 than he did last year. He still left a few fatties up over the plate but he was consistently hammering the inside part of the plate against both Lefties and righties and it meant that when he did leave a fat one over the middle the hitter was less likely to club it.

QUOTE(SuperSteve @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 02:09 PM) It was off Riske. I'm watching the game. The Royals have looked a lot better this year, I've actually seen more of their games than Sox games it seems. We'll see what they do versus Jones. They're better than you think IMHO. They have gotten solid starting pitching so far. Just no bullpen, and a few other pieces. I have seen four games I htink now. I'm falling in love with DeJesus (who just got his third hit today). Duckworth had a very solid game today. Riske just isn't a closer. They have a lot more talent. There new GM (from the Braves org) has done nothing but compile talent for the most part, although he did give out some odd contracts as well and made a couple puzzling deals (the Mets and Sox trades were a bit odd) but overall the team is improved from years past. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 02:34 PM) And with the lackluster play they got at 3B last year, it made perfect sense to rush up Gordon *rolls eyes*. HA, that's why they are the Royals though. Are you being sarcastic? Teahan was absolutely ridiculous the second half of last season. And why not bring Gordon up, the kid might as well grow a bit at the major league level. He had over a full season over minor league ball, had success and isn't being thrown into a high pressure situation with the Royals.

Some funny lines and a decent episode but not enough Mob for my taste. Entourage was pretty good though but for the most part both shows were more setting things up for the 2nd half of there respected seasons. QUOTE(maggliopipe @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 08:44 PM) I thought he was wearing gloves. I dug the episode and it had some great one-liners. Also, I heard Dan Jiggetts has a cameo in next week's episode. He was wearing gloves.
