QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 11:20 PM) This is kind of ironic to me and I'll let you guys figure out why. Its cause if you watch baseball and ignore the ludicrious OPS stat (which I Think is a good stat by the way, but not an end all be all) you'd realize he's a pretty one dimensional player and is ridiuclously overhyped by any statitician.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 03:27 PM) Calling Jeter overrated is ignorant. He has 4 rings and he's posted consistently solid numbers throughout his career. I'd say a .316 career batting average is awfully good. His OPS for his career is also in the mid .800's which for a SS is respectable. How is he overrated? I completely agree. Jeter does all the little things and is a heck of an all around ball player. I realize its the sexy thing to hate on him, but all you got to do is watch the guy play game in and game out and you see why he has all those rings and why people in New York absolutely love him. Overated Player: Vlad Guerrero (gets more hype than he deserves) Manager: Ozzie Guillen GM: Billy Beane (this is so easy for me) Underrated Player: Joe Mauer, this guy is ridiuclously good Manager: Bobby Cox (this guy does an amazing job year in year out and never gets any love; he has failed to win the big games though) GM: Terry Ryan (great organization) QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) Dunn must get a lot more press than I am aware of, because I have no idea how he could be considered one of the most overrated players in the game. After this year he will have his third 40/100 season at the age of 26 and the only s*** I ever hear about him is from the host on Sportscenter, making some lame joke about how his latest home run hasn't landed yet. To stat lovers he is by far the most overrated player in the game, imo. Since they all gush about how he is insanely good because of his OPS, when in fact he is not. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 10:02 PM) I'm with Boz on Jeter. Jeter is like the Kobe Bryant of MLB (although Kobe himself is a big reason he's so hated). Its just become hip and cool to hate on Jeter for some reason. The guy has the most hits in all of baseball since 1996. Yes. 1996. He consistently hits anywhere from as low as .295 to as high as .346 this season EVERY year. OBP is always good. He has decent pop for the position he plays. He's one of the best in baseball when it comes to fighting off tough pitches and making pitchers work. Playoffs? Do I even have to talk about what this guy does in October? Now, yes, his defense is overrated. He wouldn't sniff a GG if he played anywhere else but NY. But c'mon, the guy has made some pretty amazing plays in the field over the years. The play he made against Oakland in game 3 of the LDS in 2001 is legendary. If Jeter is overrated, then overrated is really, really good in this case. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 10:16 PM) I'm in the same boat as you. It's a joke that a lot of people think he's the MVP. Ever hear of Albert Pujols and Ryan Howard? When Jeter retires he will pass the torch to wright. God I hate New York. What the hell do two guys in the NL have to do with Jeter being an MVP candidate. The guy is the leader of a Yankees team that is totally over-achieving. Ya, he deserves to be in MVP talk. He won't win it but if the best MVP got it, we'd be talking about JD at this point. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 08:56 AM) A couple months ago, anyone would've taken Miguel Cabrera over any young player in baseball. Now after enough fluffing from ESPN, Wright is better than Cabrera? Wright is a better all around ball player than Cabrera. Cabrera may be the better hitter though, but I don't care what the stats say, Wright is superior defensively at 3rd.

The backend and front end ratio's are really the only two ratio's that look at your income (from the lender's perspective). The only other thing you obviously need (depending on the loan) is the funds for the down payment (if you aren't doing a 100% loan) or enough funds in the bank to show you can make the payment for a couple months. The credit card fico score has zero to do with your income and is better when you have your credit balances down and obviously there are tons of factors in that. So whatever you can do to improve the credit score (usually one of those things is having a few larger credit cards, not balances, rather credit limits and one other source of major credit). Obviously you need to be paying everything on time consistently. And credit card balances (if you have a few near the max) can really hurt the credit score and one of the wisest things someone could do is take out a 2nd or get a home equity line to pay down there CC's because the interest they pay on those is usually a hell of a lot higher than what you pay on the loans (plus the loans you have the interest as tax deductible).

Garza could be solution to 5th spot in rotation...
Chisoxfn replied to CWSOX45's topic in The Diamond Club
Lummy was pitching to contact because the Sox wanted him to not screw around and put up ridiculous pitch counts on his return path from the injury. When he needed to he could get the K. I have no idea if now that he's in KC he's not being harped about it as much and instead is trying to finish everyone else on his own. However, I can't speak of what they are telling Lance Broadway so we can't make assumptions that he's throwing to contact (however, I think most pitching coaches preach pitchers being aggressive and attacking the hitters; the key is for that guy to ocassionally be able to get the big K when you really need it). -
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 13, 2006 -> 08:00 AM) I'm pretty sure he was released. Yep
-
Whatever happens happens in that series, I just want the Sox to go out and work on playing good baseball each and every day. We do that and we should be just fine.
-
I say any scenario that gets us into the playoffs. After taht I don't care who we have to play because you got to go through the best to win it all. Whether thats the Yanks, BoSox, Tigers, Angels, A's and than Mets or whoever in the NL. We don't pitch and play good baseball it'll all be moot, but I really could care less how we get in, as long as we do get in (ie wild card or division and who we play). I do care that we get in by playing good baseball cause that would give us a fighting chance in the post-season.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 11:12 PM) Yeah I'm aware of it, which is why we probably won't see him here. And Jose Cruz. btw, USED to be better than Wilson, not now though. Ick. Nah, I don't think Cruz was ever better than Wilson. Cruz was insanely talented but struggled to live up to his hype. That said he's a superior defender at all 3 positions to Wilson and hits lefties very well in his career and is used to coming off the bench.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) Ok, maybe I'm a liar then. I have no clue why but I remember him having one decent start there. He did, but his debut was nasty. The 2nd start was solid and he's been crappy since too.

Oh and Lendale White (while I think he has the ability to be an awesome powerhouse back) is an absolute turd. The guy was wearing a 100 pound circular thing of bling because he's a total prick. The type of guy I would not be shocked if he failed out of the league because he thinks stuff should get handed to him as opposed to him earning it.

so i had to watch the game on ESPN last night...

Boomer is an idiot. Plain and simple. Nice guy, but he's living in the 90's. -
I just saw this. Was watching NFL network and they were talking about it, ROFL. Vince Young sprained his ankle in the 4th quarter when he was scrambling, got hit and just threw the ball into the air (horrid pass). Packers are getting shellacked. I LOVE FOOTBALL.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) Well, it's the FS reverse jinx. Ya, everyone we interview sucks or gets traded immediately after, but they eventually turn things around and kick butt (or so I hope). QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 09:55 PM) Omogrosso will definitely be a fan favorite if he ever makes it to Chicago just cause of his name. I'm interested to see where you guys have Wes on your list considering I know Gage has never liked him. He actually is a lot higher than some would think...I think he's ahead of a once highly touted lefty pitching prospect that is ranked lower than Dan would like (Liotta).
-
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 09:48 PM) Ever since a rough start Omogrosso has been lights out. Heck, even Enuco has been on fire lately. Omogrosso is kicking complete ass. He got rocked early and is unhittable now. The guy has a great arm and will look real good in our pen in a years time. This guy will be a QUICK mover.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) I guess I should be glad I nabbed him in my keeper league... Yes you should be. Only thing that will stop him is an injury and it would be sad for it to happen. He's a smart kid who has done a lot of New Orleans already and is just an insane athlete.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 09:36 PM) I'm not saying top 10 Alex, but he at least has to be considered in the top 20. His numbers before tonight were just plain sick, and that was only like his 4th or 5th start. He's mostly been a reliever. And I shouldn't even point out that he just turned 20 this year. His numbers as a reliever are damn good even though he does struggle as a starter. He still should be on the list, maybe top 15. And you all will be sorry when you forget the name of the mighty Joseph Hunter.. Hunter is a damn good athlete. Problem is we pretty much make it a point to ignore recent draft picks from the list because they are so unproven. You really have no idea how a player is going to come so we like to give them a half season under the belts before putting them on the lists. The only real exception is McCulloch because he's a top round pick, is producing, and quite frankly our system stinks. Our 2007 preseaosn list will be much different than this list if I had to guess. Cassell Omogrosso Hunter Matt Long (if he figures things out) Texiera or whatever his name is Plenty of others

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 09:38 PM) Baseball. Although with the year Mack is having, you could debate it. But he's better than Ozuna and Pods easily. Better careers, Preston Wilson. That said, for there roles I think those guys are better role/bench players. I'm not against the idea of Preston Wilson, but its one thing to just say he could play off the bench and its another for him to come here and be willing to do so. You got to have a positive attitude about it and I don't think he would.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 01:09 PM) And you'd be saying what if the tables were turned? Amazing how the tide is starting to turn and now the games don't matter as much? GMAB. When you have a cushion they don't matter as much. The Tigers control there own destiny and sure it sucks to lose to the Sox, but bottom line is we've beat em all year and we still haven't gotten within striking distance any time recently. They don't have to beat us to win the division and they might not even have to go through us to get to the World Series. Ya, I take my chances in a 7 game series with the Tigers, but we got to do a lot more to get to them, they just have to play .500 ball and they are in, the Sox don't have that option.

QUOTE(whitesox61382 @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 08:58 PM) I don't care how much power potential a guy has when he strikes out almost once every three AB and has a career minor league BA under two-fifty(including this season). danman, that list looks almost identical to a list I would put together(few minor changes here and there). It appears that we aren't too much different in our thinking. The only difference is that I would probably have Hernandez(P) over Omogrosso simple because he has shown two years of success and better peripherals. Cassel is a guy that I didn't mention who I am going to keep an eye on. One problem...Omogrosso's arm is in a whole nother league when compared to Hernandez. With Collaro this guy has serious power. Sure he may be a Russell Branyan but his swing has gotten shorter every season and he's really made strides as the season has went on in Bham. The kid is willing to learn and plenty of organizations would like to have a guy with his power potential (obviously he has plenty of holes in his game though, but so does pretty much every prospect in the Sox system).

Minnesota Twins Post Mortem Playoff Thread

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 11:47 PM) It was his debut. He'll come around. Not sure what our scout have to do with his line... You can throw out the results of a pitchers first couple starts (whether good or bad). The only thing to watch for when a rookie comes up is the type of "stuff" he has, imo. -
That one 40 some odd run he had was freaking outstanding. I've been watching NFL Huddle or whatever its called and all I had to see was that run and the speed he has to see that this kid is gonna be a special kind of player if he stays heatlhy. The Texans going to regret passing him by for a DE.
-
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 06:46 PM) not to mention he needs to be waiver or dfa'd... there's no point to discuss it. preston wilson is a good defender, and used soley against lefties would be a fine addition... BUT who do you get rid of to bring him on? Or, I guess with 40-man's coming up... Only thing I can think of doing is place someone on the DL just before it happens, than squeeze Wilson onto the team just before September so he too is eligible to play in the post-season if we get there and need him. However, we didn't consider Jose Cruz Jr and I doubt we'll consider Preston Wilson. It appears this team is going to stick it out as is.

QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 05:58 PM) Who pissed in your Cheerios? I just call it like I see it. All season long I waited and waited for the pitching to do what it was supposed to and now I'm at the point where they are going to have to prove to me (and the league) that they have made strides and are getting better. Too many people just assume our pitchers can turn on a magic switch and while I hate being a pessimist, I see myself more as a realist and the bottom line is unless our pitching continues to improve and gets things turned around (which I've long said is very possible, especially since I've been the guy preaching Javier Vazquez as of late) its all going to be a moot point (even if we do get in the playoffs). Of course, I'd be the first to admit that this year (sans the Angels who may not get in) no team really has a dominate rotation (I do not think the Tigers have one, especially since I expect Verlander to wear down and I'm not a fan of Roberson or the last man in there pen).
-
QUOTE(Wanne @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 06:35 PM) Seriously...there must be something behind this. Maybe he's got a crap attitude because he expected to be the full-time starter. The guy really doesn't have a lot of plate discipline either. Very odd. You don't get rid of a guy with splits like that against LHP. I realize he strikes out a lot but there has to be something more. Either he wants more playing time and the Astros told him he wasn't going to get much down the stretch or he's just been a thorn in there sides for a while. That said I remember Kenny discussing the name Preston Wilson back when he was with the Rockies. I'm a fan of Jose Cruz Jr though because he plays a better CF.
-
I don't think this team is any better than they've been most of the year. In 05 we had studly pitching pretty much all season, aside from a handful of starts we have not had that at all this year. Count was awesome, Vaz had an aweosme start two turns ago, but you know what, consistent QS's is what makes a team dangerous and we have yet to show that we can do it. Till than, I'll just continue to assume we will not make any noise (even if we do get in).
