  1. QUOTE(G&T @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 04:51 PM) Hey look at what that bunt and steal did! Yep, it was a thing of beauty.
  2. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 04:49 PM) OH MY GOD Double that. We see more of this Pods and I'd be a whole lot happier. Halladay is slow but Molina has a cannon (even if he's throwing out a lower % of guys right now than he did with the Halos).
  3. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 04:49 PM) ^^^^^^ Bad behavior and putting players in positions they can't play. Maybe Garland can get a start at SS tomorrow; good arm and a decent hitter.
  4. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 04:45 PM) Then the championship honeymoon for Ozzie is rapidly coming to a head. I'll always thank him for that year, but I live in the now and Ozzie doesn't work with a team full of quality players. He works best with a scrappy firy team and this team isn't exactly that. I also think ozzie would be one of the worse when it came to developing young players on a rebuilding ball club (not that we will be there). People call Mike Ditka great, I call him crap. To only win 1 superbowl with that team was a travesty. I'm not saying its as big of a travesty for the Sox not to do so (and we don't know what will happen) but when this taem misses the playoffs and fails to make noise (note I didn't say "if") it will be a total embarassment and joke. I realize its not easy to make the playoffs, but we haven't had injuries to blame thus far (not saying it couldn't happen). Bottom line is this team has played without fire and while thats on the players its also on the manager. I'd hate to see Ozzie cost us a few more years just like I think Jerry Manuel cost us a few times.
  5. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 04:40 PM) Then, you'll complain about Sandy to no end. It's not the manager, it's the players. Your blame is, for the most part, misdirected. Disagree. Ozzie handled himself absolutely disgracefully between the Garland and Tracey incident (more so with the Tracey incident, especially when you consider behind the scenes stuff). Than his lone strenght (being agressive) has dissapeared and he continually puts players in a position where they can't possibly succeed (Mack in CF, Pablo in LF, sadly Pods in LF, not giving Bmac a chance a month ago after we had contiuosly horrible starting all season). Its one thing if we didn't have the players, but we do. Our guys in the rotation are also totally to blame as well, Ozzie hasn't hung or made the poor pitches, but at the same time he's sat there expecting them to magically get better as opposed to being proactive and trying something. My problems with Ozzie are with all of his dumb idiotic comments and statements (see Tracey/Garland) and with his failure to be proactive and try to improve things. I've been saying this for a while now and I've called for his firing more than once (not that it really means anything). Give me Mike Scioscia any day of the week.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 04:37 PM) My only wish is that if we tank the rest of the year, Ozzie will quit. Then, Sandy can retire, and he'll become manager. I love Sandy, but I want Razor. Either way, call me a pessimist, but I've completely given up on this team. They are absolutely hopeless with there weak ass starting rotation. Things aren't going to just magically get better either. I know Freddy is crap, the only miracle that could happen would be Garland continuing to dominate (sans the first inning with some spiffy defense), Contreras starting to dominate again and Buehrle/Vaz figuring things out. The odds of all of that happening in a few month span with our pitchers already worn down is slim to none and without that, we are a .500 team at best. Oh and Hawk, just stop whining. Who gives a crap if the calls don't go our way, calls don't cost you from making the playoffs, bad plays do.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 04:33 PM) Think Ozzie will beach at Mack for not playing defense well enough in CF, just to see how ironic things can get? Of cfourse not. Ozzie has double standards, some people get treated completely harsh and ran over, while others get away with everything. He should be fired and I've been calling for it for some time now (ever since the Tracey incident which I thought was complete and utter garbage; than again after the Garland incident and for the fact that he did absolutely nothing to try and get the tema fired back up when they were in a major funk, ie base running; afterall, Hawk kept saying he wouldn't just sit around, but thats all Ozzie's done this year).
  8. Face it people, we aren't a good team. Good teams don't have piece of spiff pitching staffs. Thats the bottom line. Oh and our defense is blowing things big time and considering we have a kick butt defense, we also have a manager thats absolutely horrible because he's done his best to at times ruin our defense.
  9. If I lived in the area I'd so be down. I'm always game for a sport (play soccer on Monday's and Bball on Thursdays).
  10. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 06:13 PM) I'll let you because I have Rick on twice a year on my radio shows, so I don't want him to think I am using him too much, if that makes sense. I need to keep him happy since one day he will be a GM and I can still hopefully get him for shows. When u e-mail him, just say your from futuresox.com and I am sure he will be more than willing, real nice guy. Also, when do you want the prospect reviews done by? Uhh...Monday or so would be sweet, but no worries if its a little later. Speaking of which I'm going to put your draft piece back up as the main piece tomorrow since it didn't get as much hay time due to the site being hacked this past weekend.
  11. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 06:02 PM) Hey, Jas, did Hahn ever respond to you? But for Sickels: What do you think of Aaron Cunningham, does he have a bright future? I found out my email was going through junk on certain filters so I gotta resend my emails to Hahn and Wilder and am still working on getting Shaffer's email. I'll resend, unless you feel more comfortable sending to Rick since you've dealt with him in the past?
  12. Played the best round of golf of my life. I shot a 96 losing just 3 golf balls. This was keeping the real score, any out of bouns penalties counted, if I lost the ball I hit a provisional, no mulligans, nothing. I was totally impressed cause I was playing one of the hardest courses in California (well it was just ranked as one of the 5 toughest new courses in the US). Only flaws was I 3 putted the last 3 holes when I was about 9 feet away looking at par each time (it was rather pathetic). And on the final 2 holes of the front I shot a double and triple bogey. Aside from that I was really on. Had 2 300 plus drives (one 311, the other 300...give or take a few yards depending on pin placement). Ya, it may not be an impressive score, but I'm way cocky now about my golf game and look forward to going back out in a few days only to get my ass kicked in.
  13. I'm really looking forward to this and than ones with Wilder and Schaffer cause this will give us an idea of what an outside analyst thinks of the systems and than a bit about what our own organizational guys like as well as there draft/scouting philosphies.
  14. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 11:24 AM) Since this was my first interview for a "real job", just wondering what the normal time (if there is one) to hear back following an interview. By all accounts it went great as I interviewed with three different people and all of them said they would be in contact with me and were impressed. Also, I sent two of them a thank you email this afternoon and was wondering if that was the proper thing to do as well. Definately the right thing to do to send thank you letter back (whether via email or real mail). It really helps seal the deal and make the interviewers think number 1, you got something out of it (I usually ask a few questions about the people that are interviewing me so that you can get an understanding of who they were, where they've come from and how they got there). And number two the email shows that you really are interested and willing to take some extra intiative instead of just waiting to see what happens. Edit: I should have read the other posts and not just the top one. Ya, I'd expect the call back during that timetable. If you don't hear back by next Friday, just give a quick follow up call. If the interviewers seemed genuinely interested than I think your in good shape, assuming your resume and background is what they are also looking for.
  15. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 09:58 PM) Reyes is in the majors so he is as much of a prospect as B-Mac or Jenks are....and I have never heard of Rasmus. Tell me when Reyes can actually stay healthy for an extended period of time.
  16. Uribe crushed that, 5-3 now and the Royals are giong to the pen.
  17. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 07:05 PM) Two reasons we're currently losing tonight: -Freddy Garcia's subpar pitching -Pods' defense But hey, at least it's something new, and not the same thing that always beats us. Imo, this isn't on Garcia. He's kept them in the game and while he's sucked this inning, prior to this most of it was on the defense. Oh and giving up hits to Teahen is not something I can really gripe about considering the guy was the best offensive player in the month of july.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 06:57 PM) Wang's about to get his 5th straight win for NYY. They're playing some excellent baseball right now. Wang is one of my favorite pitchers in the AL. That guy has some good stuff. Teahen just creams another. He's starting to really figure things out.
  19. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 06:53 PM) GREAT EMAIL QUESTION Do share
  20. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 06:49 PM) Now the sad thing is, that Minny will come in here and destroy the Royals for the next 3 games. We seem to be the only playoff contending team that has problems with the worst teams in the league. We won the series, thats all i ask for. You win series and you'll be a playoff team. Hudson has pitched well, we should have 3 runs, but no knock on Teahen taking ya deep. Problem is our defense is what sucks. We should be winning this game with proper execution.
  21. QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 06:48 PM) Who are the two? I could see Orlando Cabrrera, Alex Gonzalez and Adam Everett being rated above Uribe and even then I have my doubts because I think Uribe gets to more balls than some of those guys (however, all are very good). Vizquel isn't what he once was, although he's hands down the greatest defensive shortstop ever. Cesar Itzuris is another one of my favorites, but he needs to prove he's still at that level.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 06:47 PM) Damn...nice play there. It almost sneaked by him. Ya, Gathright stepped up.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 06:43 PM) No offense, but please show us a little more respect than that. Outside of the last 10 games, he was a well above average defensive player. He's very streaky as a hitter, but he still produces a lot for someone making 4 million who can hit low in the order. Its just worthless baseball talk. I don't give two spiffs about a week span where Uribe has struggled a bit with his glove. This guy is not a premiere shortstop, but he's in the notch right below that and defensively there are about 2 better than him in all of baseball.
