  1. QUOTE(shoota @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 06:44 PM) Actually it was quite witty. See, the poster was calling Detroit s***ty, because it's a f***ing s***hole. Have fun with your time off. You guys don't just get the ability to go out and attack other posters. You come in here, say you didn't see the game...than go off on Javy (which I have no problem with if you watched it and saw what happened) and than try to stirr up stuff. Thats a time out and this is a public warning to everyone else. We are following our policy seriously so if you want to trash someone do it on another site. Otherwise if you got a problem with something, shutup, put them on ignore, move on and be the better man or women.
  2. Tigers win...Sox lost after having one rough inning. Rubber game of the series tomorrow and it'll be a huge game. You know if the Tigers go on to do big things, Monroe's grandslam could be looked at as one of the key moments of the season. if the Sox go out tomorrow and take care of business, we could make it just another hit.
  3. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 06:42 PM) He stinks, but he sure does get the job done most of the time. He has as many blown saves as Papelbon. Ya, he may make it ugly but I'm guessing Leyland has him because he's experienced and he won't let a blown save or some runs given up bother him. Who knows what happens if they had Zumaya in there. They must feel he's not ready to handle the possbility of blowing big time games. Dye with a nice hit...come on AJ
  4. Haven't had a hit since the 5th...lets change that Paulie.
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 06:39 PM) If only Todd Jones started the inning. I was hoping that lefty would walk Thome. But lets do this...never give up, this team can come back at any time.
  6. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 06:35 PM) Just saw a post that says Wider is playing tommorow. Oh well. Maybe we'll win the next series against them, because unless they call up their entire AAA lineup, the Sox won't beat the Tigers trotting Chris Widger out there. If Jose takes care of business it won't matter. I don't mind it cause AJ is gonna have a hell of a time off a guy like Rogers, but I wouldn't be opposed to seeing some Chris Stewart up here.
  7. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 06:34 PM) chisoxfn:ur sig, didnt kel die a few days ago or something? Not sure, one of the admins (probably Greasy) put it in there as some srot of prank. they like to mess with my sigs and avies from time to time for some reason.
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 06:31 PM) He cares too much, Jas. He gets too down on himself when he makes one bad pitch(in this case the pudge rolling curve is what got it going) and that just leads to a big inning. It's happened a ton this season. I'm totally with you and I kind of briefly mentioned what it does to him mechanically. But I really think with proper coaching and some pointers (maybe get him to step off the mound and go through a set mental routine when he gets into these type of ruts...that remind him what to do mechanically and just get him to overal calm down and regain his composure) he'll be able to get past it. But Its easier to fix a guy that cares too much than a guy that doesn't care at all. Just like its easier to fix a guy with great stuff than a guy with no stuff. Javy has both and after slamming him a whole lot I'm starting to get really confident about him.
  9. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 06:27 PM) s***ting yourself at the hint of a pressure situation doesn't bode well for the playoffs... s***ting no...his approach has to be fixed and I'm not saying its fixable but he gets mad and he overthrows. That tells me he cares and if Coop can get him to manage his feelings, take some breaths, relax and gather himself mechanically we'll see him start pitching through those type of jams. I'd be more scared if he just stopped caring and gave up as opposed to overthrowing because he's mad about the hits that he gave up.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 06:26 PM) Iguchi's not playing today. The Sox seem concerned that his ankle hasn't healed quickly from his collision over two weeks ago. Apparently there is still some lingering soreness. Might as well be careful. I'm not a major fan of Cintron's approach at the plate (its pretty Uribe-esque yet he doesn't have near Uribe's raw talent) but he's had some big hits on the year.
  11. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 06:25 PM) Ok kid, spill the beans. Fess up there Jason. I don't think we are going to get an offer, but there is a lot of truth to the rumors with the Mets. I think Kenny hopes the Mets have some troubles out of the rotation and Freddy has a decent start and you'll see em panic. Overall I don't think anything is made, but unless this one start really changes the minds of the Sox, they aren't about to deal Vazquez (unless they get blown away).
  12. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 06:24 PM) Javy doesn't know how to step it up under tight situations. I don't care if his stuff is 'good' or not. He cant cut the mustard. Get him out of here now. I really don't think thats it. I used to think it was the case but I saw enough reaction out of him to show that he does care. I have called the guy a "sissy" quite often and have went with the idea that he's scared on the mound at times. But really what he does is he gets overly eager and tries to over-throw. This works badly because he doesn't have the leg kick so his arm gets out of whack with his body and resulting to hanging the ball. Plus when he's overthrowing a breaking ball as is (even when he has his high leg kick which naturally keeps his arm more in check) he's going to roll it over because when you throw it too good (as Hersh mentioned on the telecast) you end up getting it to hang cause the ball doesn't get the desired spin.
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 06:23 PM) I really don't think Javy is going anywhere either but I've definitely read different. We'll see, all I know is I want Brandon in the rotation one way or another. I've also read about Jon Garland going to the Mets. You got to be careful and filter through some stuff. Kenny isn't stupid and he's not about to admit a mistake by moving Javy. I know from what I heard they were really optimistic around the break about Javy coming out and really having a big 2nd half. I think Coop feels he's about to turn the corner and develop into the guy he was in Montreal.
  14. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 06:20 PM) Well Jason if we step back and take the emotion out of it, you are right, he pitched 5 good innings. Personally I expect a little more than that, I would like to see seven good innings. I agree with you 100% that his success or failure will go a long way in determining how the White Sox do and where they end up. But I think they are at their wits end with these horrible pitches at exactly the wrong time. It is the antithesis of what winning teams do. If you can't redouble your focus at a key time like that, there's a problem. Maybe Guillen needs a shorter leash on this guy, I don't know. Earlier this year Ozzie shortened the leash on Jon and recently he seems to be getting readjusted to letting Jon going a little longer once again. Maybe thats necessary for Javy. Honestly I think its just a matter of him being willing to work with Coop and get that kick down. He struggles massively once runners gets on and I really think its due to the leg kick and how it leads to him flattening up his breaking pitches. I've also noticed when he's pitching with runners on he really seems to go away from the fastball and gets overly predicatable. Ya, its definately frustrating, but in the big picture its just another reason why I really do think the Sox feel they are that much closer. You could even see Javy out there slowly adjusting his delivery with runners on so I do think he finally gets it and realizes he needs to make the adjustments to get back to what he once was. Javy isn't going to be going anywhere and since Freddy hasn't shown us any reason to be optimistic (unless he starts throwing like he did the final couple innings against the Yanks) we are gonna need a guy like Javy to pitch strong cause if we make the post-season he'll probably be one of the 4 guys toeing the rubber.
  15. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 06:21 PM) We have no idea if Kenny is reluctant to trade Javy. From everything I've read, he's been shopping him. I would be very very shocked if Javy is moved. If the right deal came along sure...but this team is not actively shopping him like it is another starter. *HINT* GARCIA */HINT*
  16. Pods and Cintron with two weak outs...we'll need to shut em down this next AB and than get some serious magic against Todd Jones. COME ON SOX!!!
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 06:15 PM) Of course, we all know their are certain whipping boys on the team. If that was a slider, then that really was a brutal pitch. There was virtually no tilt on that pitch at all. It was a slider...you could tell by the velocity on it.
  18. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 06:11 PM) no the site is called soxtalk go to motown sports. Lets just calm down...put em on ignore if you don't like em. If they were going out of the way to attack that would be one thing but they aren't. I realize some people dont' like the Tiger fans in this thread, but just put em on ignore. Comments like this and the previous one aren't necessary. We have mods for that and I'd like to think we do a decent job at it. Hope you understand
  19. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 06:12 PM) Jason I have it on the local feed but if ESPN was talking about that then they nailed it. That's exactly what he does, it's always a brutal pitch with runners on and it's always a hanging breaking ball of some sort. Easy for me but I was sitting here saying "go in on his hands, go in on his hands", i.e. with the fastball. Hawk and DJ were saying go outside and take a little off the slider and as it turns out they were right because Monroe was looking middle-in. And usually that's what it is on a hanging breaking pitch, the arm is dragging through the delivery, the finish is high and therefore the pitch stays up. Either way, bad luck or not, the time for analysis is over. We are trying to stay in a pennant race and this guy has got to perform. Granted there were a few bloops etc. but he has got to make a better pitch than he did. One of the worst pitches in a key situation of the whole 2006 season, if not the worst. Ya thats exactly what they were talking about and it is really noticeable. Of course once the bases were loaded he was able to use the higher leg kick and you saw better breaking balls, with the exception to the two or three he over threw. One of which was that awful hanger that should have been thrown outside. The whole world knows that Monroe and Thames are dead pull hitters that can't hit down and away breaking balls yet Javy threw the ball in the one spot where Monroe can really club the ball and since it was a hanging slider its hard enough that even if he was swinging for a fastball he's still gonna get plenty of wood on it and drive the ball.
  20. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 06:13 PM) If we weren't paying Javy so much, I'd say he'd make a great bullpen pitcher with his stuff. POSS-I-BIL-I-TIES He may be throwing out of the pen if we make it to the post-season. That said I really think he's going to be a key piece to this team down the stretch and his success (or failure) is going to really be a key factor in the Sox success (or failure). After all the slamming I've done I got to admit I actually have some faith in Javy over the 2nd half of the season, even with tonights start.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 06:04 PM) I say this respectively, but Ozzie/KW got greedy when they added him. They got addicted to the thought of "the greatest rotation ever". I highly doubt they would have made the trade if they knew Garland/Contereras would re-sign. I have to buy into the whole leverage argument, but if they could have fast-forwarded a few weeks and seen Garland and than Contreras resign we wouldn't have made the move. Instead we'd probably have pawned Duque off to some team and than tried to pick up a swingman that could enter the rotation if any of our guys got hurt or faltered with Bmac in the 5th spot.
  22. This was actually one of his best games, sans that inning. I realize the inning counts and this type of inning has completely hampered Javy but I really think we are about to see him turn the corner. He's working with Coop and I got faith. He really showed good stuff and good command most of the night. Now I'm going to hope the offense can come in and bail him out. On a sidenote, this is going on the game thread since it deals with the game.
  23. Thats rough. Javy pitching great and than a bloop single that bounces over Crede....you get a clean hit by Pudge and than that bloop that fell when they thought Guillen was going to bunt and a single by Maggs that wasn't that clean (not that it was a good pitch). I think ESPN did a nice job talking about the leg kick though and I'm sure Coop is doing what he can to help Javy with runners on so his arm can catch up.
  24. Tomorrow we are scheduled to interview Birmingham Baron's farmhand Lucas Harrel and we wanted to take the time to open up the forum to see if you guys/gals have any questions you'd like to ask Lucas. He's a starting pitcher for the Baron's whose really been making some progress this season.
