  1. The deal makes no sense unless the Pads have some front line starting pitching prospects they watn to give us as well while we give them Garcia and Fields
  2. Pelfrey >>> Lumsden >>>> Broadway And I think we all know that I like Lummy quite a bit as a prospect. The Kazmir deal was made in July of 04, Minaya was hired after the 04 season came to an end.
  3. Some good discussion of the deal going on over at TalkBulls http://www.talkbulls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=912
  4. QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 10:31 AM) Where has the lil hineybird been? Just hope A.J. makes the All-Star team and can throw that in Jays dumb face. According to the Suntimes he's on vacation and apparently he's going to be on vacation for a while longer.
  5. Pax is putting a major priority on having some quality vets around our young players and I'm sure he didn't think JR Smith would be very happy with his playing time here. Because of that he moved him now as opposed to having him for a few weeks only to have him whine and complain.
  6. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 07:24 AM) i love sushi. Test Test QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 07:47 AM) Apparantly I am worse. Doesn't seem like I should hit "reply button first, so I'm not getting how to comment under each post. Can someone be kind enough to give me a walk thru please, thanks. Test Test Hey Jim, if this works than I guess I know how to do it. What you do is click on the quote button (not the reply button) for the quotes you are interested (the quote button will than turn another color). After you have the interested quotes, hit the Add Reply button. In the reply section you should see two different quotes and after the [/quote] tag you would enter your response to each of the quotes and than just submit the post. Hopefully that helps
  7. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 09:32 PM) You're not wanting that new TalkBulls skin too badly are you? Damn it...I'll be on my best behavior.
  8. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 07:53 PM) What is this? The brag about your high school accomplishments thread? Oh and while we're bragging I got a semester's credit worth of AP courses going into college. Where's Heads coming to brag? I know when there's academic bragging he can't be far behind. Too bad he went to Iowa St. You made fun of heads....
  9. QUOTE(SABR Sox @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 07:04 PM) Heilman has put up some great K rates for an RP and can even start if needed. Sanchez isn't a control freak either, in fact his BB/9 rates are worse than Heilmans' Sanchez BB/9: 4.10 Heilman BB/9: 3.0 Down the line, you'd like to have a guy like Heilman who's so icredubly verstile. Sanchez is good, but why trade for a RP when you can trade for a SP/RP? And Heilman hasn't been as bad as advertised. He has had 2 really bad outings and his ERA has inflated becuase of it. Sanchez stuff >>> Heilmans Sanchez Upside >>> Heilmans Sanchez has the ability to be a dominant reliever, Heilman has the ability to be a solid to mediocre starter or reliever.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 03:29 PM) They'll find a way to get Abreu, as the Phillies will do anything to get rid of his contract. Trust me, I know the reason we're losing is because of the pitching. However, when Freddy Garcia is one of the top names on the market, it doesn't get my hopes up that something can be done. Can we count on the offense to continue to produce at such a high rate though? Freddy is one of the top names, but Kenny wants to upgrade this rotation. I just don't think the guy he wants is really on the market.
  11. Kenny has some stuff up his sleeve, but I don't know if we have the chips to get done some of the things he wants to get done. Not to mention I don't know if the market will be too much of a sellers market.
  12. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 03:02 PM) All right, I'm not totally alone! And thats coming from someone that really hates him. This isn't really my opinion, I'm actually basing it on somethings I've heard from people close to the Sox. They think he's on the verge of flipping a switch. So I'm going to go with there optimism despite my hatred of that deal. Plus it would kill me if he didn't pan out since they dealt my favorite prospect (Chris Young).
  13. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) I don't think his fastball and curve are good enough to compliment his changeup well enough, and I don't think he'll be all too consistent with his stuff when he pitches full-time. I have noticed his velocity has been on the rise. I think as he fills out you'll see him become a guy that hits 95 on ocassion. But anything can happen and I'm not going to say he's a guaranteed ace cause there is no such thing as that.
  14. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 01:39 PM) At this point, I don't think there's any doubt the Yanks/Red Sox are better. The Tigers probably are, too. I've been saying the same thing you are, though, if we can't acquire an impact starter, we better improve the lineup and try to win slugfests. At the very least, dump one of the starters and open up a spot for McCarthy. I don't think the Yanks are better than the White Sox and I have some doubts that the Red Sox are better than us. We weren't playing good they were, we lost, but it doesn't tell me that the Sox aren't a good team. We didn't accidentally have the 2nd best record in baseball at the break. Sure, this team has some problems but lets not act as if the Yanks and Red Sox have amazing rotations either.
  15. We are playing bad and there are some definite problems, but I know we have the talent and I'm expecting Jon to continue to pitch good, Jose to do his thing and in fact get more so to how he was early this year while I actually think Vazquez is going to have a big 2nd half. I just hope Buehrle can figure things out...who knows about Freddy but we can put this thing back together real quick, imo. At the same time, if tihe pitching doesn't improve this team isn't going to be wearing another ring this time next year.
  16. I've always believed and will always believe in the power of the Rally Crede!!!!
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) This is the anti-2005, remember how great that Cleveland series was comming out of the break last year? Damn that was fun. I was thinking that yesterday...we started off looking great in the 2nd half and boy did that end fast, maybe we'll do the opposite this time around with the same net result (World Series championship). I hope they take the off day to refocus and do what they need to, to be prepared to take care of business against the Tigers.
  18. He's looking a lot more comfortable at the plate. I'm thinking the patience is starting to pay off and in a few years it will really be paying off when he's putting up similar numbers (while playing similar defense) to Torri Hunter.
  19. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 01:09 PM) 4 runs on 14 hits = PATHETIC Especially considering Pods and Guchi were on base like 8 times.
  20. TADAHITO!!!!! Rips a double now its time for the 3-4-5 to make us all forget about what they have done earlier in the game.
  21. Its time Gooch...get on and than lets just hope for a HR
  22. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 12:57 PM) To be honest, we haven't played very many good or great teams thus far. But I agree, we DO have the talent, but we don't seem to have the focus right now. Now its time to maybe get some cluth hits...maybe....just maybe
