  1. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 12:01 PM) Would the Sox really take three pitchers, when they're MIF/C prospects are so weak? Three guys to look at still on the board: Walden, Betances, and Jason's guy, Hughes. HUGHES is good and I like taking guys coming from good schools who do a good job with pitchers (LONG BEACH STATE IS THAT). Walden is good too.
  2. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 11:58 AM) The Nats picked Stephen King -- described as an extremely athletic kid who has been injured and hasn't put up the numbers quite yet. That's the type of pick I sort of like right now. That's not to say I don't like the Sox picks so far (I'm pretty happy right now), but I like the toolsy type player right now. King was a guy the Nats considered in RD 1 apparently so I think they are happy taking him there. I really like Long. On a sidenote, we will be working on landing some interviews as Heads has already gotten in contact with the top 2 picks of the Sox. Heads is uber wise.
  3. I want Jared Hughes out of Long Beach State. Really good stuff and he's been falling.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 11:52 AM) What pick are we at now? 92
  5. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) There goes Chad Tracy (son of the Pittsburg manager, Jim Tracy) to Texas. Very good pick. Tracy is a pretty damn good catching prospect.
  6. Sox Nab a Closer out of Miami In Round 2 By Jason Gage FutureSox.com Earlier today, FutureSox reported the Sox had interest in taking a collegiate closer out of Miami. Perez was the guy we expected, but with Perez off the board the Sox took Matt Long. Long was one of the top prep players to come out of Ohio in 2002 but has suffered some set-backs along the way...More Info On Matt Long
  7. Matthew Long - RHP Miami I told you guys...CLOSER.
  8. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 11:20 AM) So, Jason, Cerb, any other draft experts -- who should we be looking at with the second pick? Is Hodges a realistic possibility? Yes, even though he's a 3rd baseman he' sa very good hitter, a good athlete and can switch hit. Obviously we do have a few other guys at 3rd though (Fields and Schnur). I wouldn't be shocked if we take a catcher relatively early though in this draft and I think we'll load the first few rounds on PITCHING. Look for a potential closer here (may even be a reach pick).
  9. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 11:14 AM) One thing, in the middle of the article, you say he took off for the Aggies. And it should be longhorns. Other than that it looks real good, especially how quickly you got the article up. Haha, talk about a brain fart. Thanks, got it fixed, also thanks to knight's help you can see him in a Sox uni in the article.
  10. Gracias. If anyone sees any grammatical errors, please point them out. Was doing my best to get this stuff up as quick as possible. In a few we will start up our draft tracker that will list the Sox picks as they come in. Here's a blurb from BA that gives you a background of McCulloch's prior draft experience: Good Decision To Go To College 1:34 p.m.: Kyle McCulloch was originally drafted by the Mets in the 18th round in 2003 out of Bellaire High in Houston. The Mets did not have a second or third round choice that season because of signing Tom Glavine and Cliff Floyd and their was speculation the Mets would try and sign him above slot to get him to bypass college. They did not, and three years later he is a first-round pick.
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 11:05 AM) They better trade one of these guys, because if we keep drafting clones of each other we will have no divserity in our rotation. Or we like them because they develop quickly so we will be able to market them in a trade a lot more quick. Taking a project means you have a couple years till they are in AA (the point where guys really become marketable for the most part). Taking a guy like Broadway or McCulloch means they are in AA by the time they are eligible (assuming they stay healthy and aren't total busts) so they are immediately very valuable on the trade market.
  12. Wow, Yanks get Chamberlain (great draft for them thus far; expensive one too).
  13. Cards took Perez so he's off the board (not that I expected him to slide all the way to our next pick).
  14. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:53 AM) Anyone got a feel on the signing ability of Kyle McCulloch to a quick deal? I'd assume part of the reason the Sox are extra happy is that Texas was knocked out (big time upset) of the tourney over the weekend so we'll be able to get McCulloch in quickly (hopefully). Of course the team will be careful with him and will probably piggy back him once he comes in.
  15. White Sox Select Kyle McCulloch By Jason Gage FutureSox.com The Chicago White Sox happily waited till the 29th overall pick before selecting RHP Kyle McCulloch in the first round of the 2006 amateur draft. The draft was one short of shockers with the Royals selecting Luke Hochevar (1st overall) and the Tigers selecting Andrew Miller (top rated pitcher)...Click Here for the Rest of his scouting report
  16. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:44 AM) 6. Kyle McCulloch, rhp (National rank: 16) School: Texas. Class: Jr. Hometown: Houston B-T: R-R. Ht.: 6-3. Wt.: 185. Birthdate: 3/20/85. Scouting Report: McCulloch's stuff isn't as sexy as the pitchers ahead of him on this list, though he's a better bet to reach his ceiling as a No. 3 or 4 starter than most. "He's a safe pick," a regional crosschecker said. "You know he's a big leaguer. Maybe you get Brad Radke out of him." The Longhorns initially signed McCulloch as a shortstop out of Houston power Bellaire High, where he played both ways but first emerged as an infielder. He's a good athlete for a pitcher and quite consistent. McCulloch's velocity has been down a little this year, as his fastball has sat at 88-90 mph, compared to 89-92 in 2005, when he won the deciding game of the College World Series. His best pitch is his plus changeup, and both his curveball and solid are effective if not spectacular. Early in the spring, he struggled when he relied too heavily on his secondary stuff, but righted himself when he returned to working off his fastball. Besides winning at premier high school and college programs, McCulloch also has proven himself against top summer competition. He held his own as a reliever in the Cape Cod League in 2004 and tied for the Team USA college team lead with four victories in 2005. iirc....same school as chris young Ya, thats where Young went.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:37 AM) When do the Sox pick next? Also, where is Wes Hodges supposed to be picked around? I've seen him play a lot at GT, and he's someone I think will become a MLB player. Hodges is a studly player and we hold the 29th pick of every round and I doubt Hodges is there. If he is, I'd put even money that we take him. Working on a nice writeup on McCulloch right now though so I'm gonna dissapear for a bit.
  18. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:32 AM) We seem to have an affinity for this type of pitcher. So much for the power arm. We didn't have a power arm in our rotation last year and did just fine (well I guess contreras has a power arm).
  19. He's a clone of Broadway. A polished collegiate pitcher who throws in the low 90's. BA has compared him a bit to Brad Radke. Has an oustanding changeup and also throws a good curveball and slider. Seems to have pretty good secondary stuff and has only played against top competition.
  20. Kyle McCullough out of the University of Texas Was ranked as the 16th best prospect by BA
