  2. QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) This guy is so underated and to compare him to aaron miles is unfair to even willie harris. Going to colorado will make him that much better of a hitter ( and he is really not that bad now... he had one of the best eyes on the sox the last couple years and his defense is very good. It is pretty laughable that when we traded for him the knock on him was whether he would be able to play it well enough defenesively. I would be shocked if he has anything less than .280 average with a .350+ obp if he gets platooned. I agree and if I were a GM in need of a cheap 2nd baseman, I'd go after Willie. He's a far better player than most of the posters here think he is.
  3. QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 10:21 AM) He (Owens) can play CF if he has to but you are right, he is not the guy you'd want out there full time, at least not at this point. The valid question is, what do you do if Anderson gets hurt? He has a history of nagging injuries so it's fair to suggest he might miss some time. Who do you plug in there, Joe Borchard? I would actually take Owens in CF over Borchard due to Joe's below average speed. Does it not make sense to bring in a defensive specialist who can play all three spots and can run a bit? Defensively, I'd take Joe. However, if Anderson stinks or misses an extended period of time, I'd go to the trade front. Jerry Owens is not a viable candidate. The people I've talked to have pretty much all flat said he's not a CFer. The guy is a mediocre left fielder (defensively) and he's going to have to hit and steal to be sucessful in this league (I've yet to see him in person aside from spring training and I know he has some talent) but he's yet to really put his high end speed to work on the bases (he steals a good number of bases, but for the minors I"d expect more steals). I, however, don't think as highly of Jerry as Ozzie seems to and I know there are some baseball people that feel the same way I do (in terms of it being nuts to put him in CF). I have one thing to worry about. Brian Anderson looked like garbage at the plate last season with the Sox. Most of the time he was up there he looked like a total fool. His swing was awkard. He made a few strides later on, but I hope he's been working hard and was watching film and that he'll make some adjustments. Cause if he plays like he did last year, we will have a MAJOR hole in CF. However, long term, i think Anderson can be a very similar player to Torri Hunter (maybe a notch below him defensively). I just think Anderson has a swing thats still a work in progress.
  4. I think there is a better shot of this happening than some of you think. What prospects do we have. Jerry Owens isn't this god you all make him out to be and Ryan Sweeney still has to show something in the minors before we annoit him the "god" some scouts thought he was a couple years back. Plus Brian Anderson has to prove he can do it in the majors. We no longer have this log jam of OF prospects (imo) and if Brian is struggling (which I could see happen cause he still needs to do a lot of work on his swing) than I could see Arow back on the southside.
  5. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Dec 26, 2005 -> 04:01 PM) ops isn't a very important statistic for a leadoff hitter, i was just simply saying his .806 ops could be replaced by a coco crisp or in other areas allowing a jeremy reed to take over in center. this point is moot anyways because damon is gone, and good riddance. the white sox rotation is the best in baseball, i never even hinted that it would be better than the white sox. however, i think the rotation will be pretty darn good next year. beckett, schilling - there both can't miss talents. wakefield, although losing mirabelli may be a factor is one of the most consistent players in the game. two of arroyo, wells, and clement will be traded, and possibly all three. the bullpen is complete, and i can't see papelbon not being up with the team next season, he could be in the rotation. again, its early. also, consider whos been added. mark loretta - for a back-up catcher? andy marte for a guy who never settled down in boston? not paying 13 million a year for a guy of johnny damons caliber? boy has this offseason been good. If Schilling is healthy I like there rotation a lot more. However, I saw nothing out of Curt last year to show me that he was going to magically be better. I saw him planting and from what I've heard he was really having trouble everywhere he went. When your a power pitcher, you can't afford to have a bad ankle. You get a lot of velocity from your leg strength and your ankle is what you use to push off and effectively get that strength from your legs. Curt wasn't able to do that last year and I don't know what would change for him to be able to do it this year. Because of that his velocity was way down and his pitches were hanging up.
  6. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 08:11 AM) Out of curiosity, when's the last time Owens even played center? I'm pretty sure he played all of 05 in left.... I get the idea a lot of people thought Owens played center this last year, but according to BHam, he was in left for every game, even when Young was out...Blakely would play center. Which is why I continue to laugh at everyone who suggests Owens plays CF. He'd be worse than Pods in CF and folks we don't want to see Pods in CF.
  7. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Dec 26, 2005 -> 11:43 PM) Why is the championship game week 17? That's terrible. It has to be 16, at latest. I'm a fan of no playoffs, however. Seriously, our championship was this week and I pulled it out. Last year I won this same groups money fantasy basketball league and now I took our money fantasy football league. However, it doesn't look like I'll be redeeming myself in fantasy basketball. I'm already 25 games out and in dead last (yet to even win a week). My team has not had one week where all my guys were healthy. Its pathetic.
  8. By the way, screw spending money on Nazr and Harrington. That gives us crap at center still. Go all out for Ben Wall. I highly doubt we get him, but this teams biggest weakness is center. Offer him beaucoup dollars and just suffer on the back end and hope you can unload him later on. Than you can slide Chandler back to PF and bring in Sweetney for low post game from time to time. Package Gordon and one of our draft picks for a better fit player for our system and use the Knicks people on a promising low post player.
  9. QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 26, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) Gordon has ever shown good iq? Ya, we he takes a 3-1 fast break three or tries to force up a ''giant killer'' instead of actually trying to get to the rim. He passing is awful and he handles are overated. He has good moves but is very sloppy, many times while dribbling he nearly falls over to regain his dribbles. Strong enough to handle guards in the post? We have no one that can do that ( guards)...which is why teams like new jersey, boston, and the cavs give us problems. I really do not see what so many see in him. He is one of the most overated players in the league, most have figured this out outside of bulls fans... he is thought of as a savior. Which is why we need to dump his ass while we have the chance. Package him, Tim Thomas and something else for a quality player. I think we could do it.
  10. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 26, 2005 -> 08:49 PM) Gordon is a scorer and has the tools of a good defensive player. For Morrison it's just not there. Gordon could do anything Morrison does and better if Skiles gave him the damn ball instead of Hinrich or Duhon while he's out on the court. Problem is Skiles has tried to change Gordon and it's not working. Gordon does best in the 4th(at least last year) in large part because that's when Skiles let's Gordon go loose. Morrison can try all he wants, but I rather take the guy with tools. You tell me a shooting guard Ben Gordon could ever guard. Maybe Corey Benjamin. Gordon has no defensive tools. I will be happy if/when the Bulls deal his sorry ass.
  11. QUOTE(VAfan @ Dec 26, 2005 -> 07:02 PM) I would agree with this. Comparing Young to Anderson at the same stops is rather depressing when you realize we kept Anderson. And since this post is supposed to be about Borchard, my question is how great a difference is there defensively between Anderson and Borchard? Because Borchard is probably a better hitter than Anderson at this point. (And what does THAT say about Anderson?) (I hope I'm wrong.) Anderson is bar none the better defensive player and he's also by far a better offensive player than Borchard. Your assesment couldn't be more wrong. Anderson will definately suffer some growing pains offensively, but as of now he's the more polished hitter of the two and its why he's going to be our starting center fielder.
  12. Anyone got an online link for that Tribune book? My mom told me she was going to get me a book but asked me which one. I think I found a winner
  13. I'm pretty sure Wells has told people close to him that this is going to be his final season and he wants to finish on the West Coast. I continu to believe its just a matter of time until he ends up in San Diego. The Dodgers, Giants and Angels would be other potential sleepers (and I doubt the Angels would go after him, although he'd be a nice pickup).
  14. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 25, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) BWAHAHAHAHA, after all of this time you are still drunk on the Orton Love. Let's break this down. One of the best rookie seasons of all time? A 59.9 QB rating constitutes one of the best rookie seasons of all time now does it? Grossman could throw 5 INT's today? Umm yeah ok, they're playing the Green Bay Packers, not the Chicago Bears on defense. But still Orton would probably throw for less than 100 yards (which he did twice in the last 4 weeks) and complete 50% or less of his passes (which he did 4 times in the last 4 games). Alex Smith plays on the San Francisco 49ers. Their offensive line is TERRIBLE and hardly gives him a chance to make a play. Could you imagine Orton dancing around in the pocket for them? And let's look back on some QB's who ALL had better rookie season then Orton; Tom Brady - 86.5 QB rating, 2843 yards. David Carr - 62.8 QB rating, 2592 yards. Drew Bledsoe - 65.0 QB rating, 2494 yards. Kerry Collins - 62.0 QB rating, 2717 yards. Byron Leftwich - 73.0 QB rating, 2819 yards. Peyton Manning - 71.2 QB rating, 3739 yards. Jake Plummer - 73.1 QB rating, 2203 yards. Ben Roethlisberger - 98.1 QB rating, 2621 yards. But because Orton won 9 games for the Bears he's great right? Technically speaking, when looking at a lot of the all time greats rookie seasons, you'll see that Orton's qb rating and numbers stand out. Plus, Brady wasn't a rookie, it was his 2nd year when he put up those numbers.
  15. QUOTE(SnB @ Dec 26, 2005 -> 09:55 AM) hey, remember when i said the bears wouldn't win a game this season? of course you don't I remember when a couple of you knuckleheads thought the Bears should forfeit the season for Matt Leinart. I called you all retarded (don't know if you were one of those hoping for Leinart).
  16. In general stolen bases have been vastly under-rated since the tenure and popularity of the money ball GM's. Now in the next couple years there may be a shift and they'll become vastly over-rated. We shall see.
  17. The two pretty large framed Sox things (highlighting the World Series). Money Clothes World Series DVD Bears Shirt Sox Shirt Snowboard Pants Snowboard Boots (my old ones were thrashed) Badass Beanie
  18. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 25, 2005 -> 03:49 AM) Ya, great, he starts to play well again once I'm out of the playoff picture for fantasy. :headshake I had him on my bench in the championship game. Parcells has been such a boob. He essentially gave up on the running game the past couple weeks and thats why they had struggled. Run the ball with your two good backs and they are just fine. But Parcells isn't what he once was.
  19. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 25, 2005 -> 12:34 AM) That was his original plan. I mean, he probably at first wanted a reindeer, but the NFL probably told him no, so he just brought the bag himself. He handed out autographed stuff and Bengals Division Champ stuff. Very very nice gesture. That would have been the best TD celebration ever. My guess is he wanted to be Santa.
  20. A big game by Thomas Jones, Urlacher and the Defense could sure up a championship in my fantasy league as well. And a pretty good cash reward Come on Bears
  21. QUOTE(3E8 @ Dec 24, 2005 -> 07:56 PM) Oops. I didn't notice 2001 was missing. I got mine from thebaseballcube.com. Thats the same place I get my stuff from. I don't know whats up with it, but I'm too lazy to dig through my stats right now. I think he hit around 26 HR's in Birmingham and played the entire year there. After that year, people were really really raving about him. Its not to often a guy comes into Bham and hammers the ball like he did. Chris Young's one of the few that has and I fear were really going to miss him. The worse part about the Chris Young trade for me is that not only did I lose my favorite prospect, but it means we'll lose one of my favorite pitchers in Garland for a guy thats been a grade A baby for the past couple seasons in Vazquez. I'll let that end my rant. The more it settles in the more I hate that move.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 24, 2005 -> 07:40 PM) why didn't you like it? Quite frankly it was the stupidest, most messed up movie I've ever seen. I'm not a huge comic idea person and I just thought the whole thing was god awful. The story, the plot, everything. I could care less whether somethings believable or not but the story was pathetic. Simply put, what did I like in the movie...Nothing.
  23. QUOTE(3E8 @ Dec 24, 2005 -> 07:47 PM) Looking at Borchard's minor league numbers, his development path was way too ambitious. He's got 1774 minor league at-bats, only 106 of them coming outside the AAA level. For some reason the stats on Sports-wired pull out his 2001 season, but he put up monster numbers in Bham that year. I'd assume he had around 500 hits, but I can't find his 2001 stats at the moment (I am pretty sure he was in Bham for the entire season) which would equate to 500-600 AB's.
  24. I got two framed pictures with all the newspaper clippings in them. My dad made them both out of a bunch of different papers and its totally sweet. I'll definately have these hanging somewhere ih my place for the rest of my life.
