MVP 06 Release Date
Well after selling both my systems for pretty good money on ebay about 3 weeks to a month ago. I decided to go out and pick up a used version of xbox so I can play this game and hold off to buy the ps3 in June or July. Was able to find a used one for 99 bucks and figure I can sell it eventually for 60 or 70 bucks. I'm so pumped for this game. Plus its only 29 bucks.

Throwing out a Suggestion
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 02:58 PM) After losing the site repeatedly during the playoffs last year...if we can fix it, I'd be in favor of it. Is there any way to move some of the long-running threads and keep them active? Like the General thread's in AJ's bar? The best thing I could do is copy the posts manually and paste them in somehow. There are ways to do it, but the problem is the databases are all out of whack due to an original format change when we switched from XMB board software to Invision way back when. But I can defiantely come up with some sort of way to keep the long posts and just transfer over the text of them. Smilies and all those things will work the same and my goal is for the new site to have a little more Sox colors and maybe make it baseball unique (in terms of having some custom graphics on the site).

Throwing out a Suggestion
As I think everyone knows, we've had some issues in terms with the server/database when it comes to people wanting to search and all that sort of stuff. Unfortunately it appears as if the problems stem from prior upgrades and software changes and most of these bugs are a result of what is a bad database (in terms of creating errors and causing mysql to hang). The server we are on is huge and can handle pretty much anything. The problem is we aren't using an optimal database and from what I understand it would be damn near impossible to rebuild the current database we have properly (so we can streamline it). Essentially, we have two options and I want to ask the members what they prefer: Option 1: Option 1 is to keep the board as is. The problem is as we get larger we may continue to see things bog down a little more and who knows, maybe more features will start to stall (unlikely, but possible). This is an easy option because it would allow for all the posts to stay on the main forum Option 2: This option would in general be a pain for members (well at 1st). We would essentially create a brand new main Soxtalk board. All the forums would be the same, but people would need to re-register (we'll make sure people can get there old user names) and we'll update people's post totals (to ensure those are accurate). The only difference is the board would be fresh and wouldn't have any of the old posts. The plan of option 2 would be to have a link on the top of the site (called archive) which would take you to the old forum that has all the posts (if people want to look back at stuff). The benefits of this would be better in the long run as we would be ensuring that the database is optimized. It should allow for more users to be on at once and will once again allow posters to search and use all the other functions of the board. I realize this would be a hassle (and what I would do is send an email out to all registered members telling them to check out the new page and re-register). However, personally speaking I think the after a few weeks the board would be back to running like new (with tons of posts) and best of all it will be optimized for the continued growth of the site. Anyway, I don't want to make any changes without passing it onto the members, so please tell me what everyone would prefer. Obviously I like the idea of #2, because the board will work best and people will still be able to access all the posts to look back on things if they want to.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 10:11 AM) It wouldn't be a bad deal for the Pacers either IMO...if they're actually trying to Move Artest, getting a guy like Magette is about as good as they're going to get. With Livingston, Mobely, and Cassel all in their backcourt, they were having trouble finding good ways to use Corey in their rotation earlier this season. Trouble of course is that it seems he's going to be out until probably mid-Feb. with that foot injury. Maggette is a good player and it makes some sense, but it still won't give the Pacers immediate help (although once he's back he'll help them). I think if the Clips made that deal, they instantly become my sleeper to win it all (if artest can stay under control). I don't think the Clips are dangerous now (to win it all) but give them Artest's defensive prowess and ability and I'd be worried about them.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 10:32 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?i...ce=NCFHeadlines About F'n time! Heck ya. I was thrilled when I saw this at the beginning of Cold Pizza. I was so worried he was going to take an NFL job this year. Really glad to have him back in Iowa City.

Reggie Bush's decision...
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 07:10 AM) Wait so is Bush staying, or is the gag thing true???? The La Daily News has reported he's already signed an agent so if thats true he's going pro. He's making the announcement around 1:00 today though.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 01:56 AM) Al Harrington is saying tonight that the Pacers are going to trade Ron Artest for Corey Maggette. I'd love to get in on the deal and offer Francis to the Pacers for Tinsley and Wilcox or Granger. We need young pieces, because we're going nowhere at the moment. Build around Jameer Nelson (who's been great so far this season) and Dwight Howard. How would Harrington know? That would be a really good deal for the Clips, plus Brand and Artest were good friends IIRC. The Clips could use his toughness.

Angels may go with Youth movement
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) I think right now the A's have to be viewed as the prohibitive favorite out there...they've improved their offense (Albiet in a risky fashion) by adding Bradley, their young guys who made a run at the division last year are a year older, and some people have had time to recover from injuries. That could change rapidly though, depending on whether or not Beane holds onto Zito and whether or not Crosby can stay healthy. I honestly put Texas a close 2nd right now, because Thanks to Texas's offense, they only needed to add a little bit of pitching to stand a real good chance, and they've added a little bit of pitching. May not be enough, but they didn't need all that much anyway. Seattle might have an outside shot, but they need the Adrian Beltre from 2 years ago to kill the Beltre from last year, among other things. The Angels should still be better than them. Exactly

Angels may go with Youth movement
The Angels got a lot of talent and I absolutely love Casey Kochman. However the Angels are a far worse team this year than they were last year and barring any major moves I don't anticipate them making the playoffs.

I Gone!
Jim I'm really sorry to hear about your release. Hopefully in the end it works out for the best and you'll find a better opportunity to move up in another organization. Know that you'll always have people here pulling for ya to make the majors. You've given it your all and have already done what most people could only dream of and hopefully in the future you'll be able to do more. Regardless, you've been nothing but class and I for one will continue to follow your career wherever you go. You'll always have fans at Soxtalk and please keep us informed. In the future, I'm hoping to one day put up an article on FutureSox about your call to the majors somewhere. All the best Jim and please make sure you keep us informed. Plus, I got to whoop up on ya again in the fantasy baseball league

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 12:33 PM) There is so much more to basketball that just scoring, but I agree that it's making baskets that puts asses in seats. I understand how the business works. While defense rules all without exception, I agree that guys like Samuel Dalembert and Tyson Chandler are making a little bit too much, as casual fans don't come out to see them. They want scoring, scoring, and more scoring. While I pity the fool that thinks along those lines, it's just reality. Don't even compare Dalembert and Chandler. Dalembert is a superior player right now.

Herman Edwards
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 12:26 PM) On the other hand, Herm's contract with the Jets was up after next year, and they'd made no obvious moves which would suggest they were willing to give him an extension. Its a contract...I think players and coaches should live up to them.

Sox sign Javier Lopez and Steven Randolph
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 10:36 PM) The scouting report and the one good year thing make Lopez sound like a lefty Shingo. Or a half assed version of Kelly Wunsch. I hate sidewinders and lefty specialist. I just don't like what it does to the pen. I'm a fan of using the guy thats pitching good and sticking with him regardless of matchups (ozzie did that more often than not; although ocassionally he got really fixated with the whole lefty/lefty thing).

Sox sign Javier Lopez and Steven Randolph
QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 09:32 PM) I must be looking at the wrong guy then. Kevin Walker has better MLB numbers than this guy has Minor league numbers. Lopez had one solid season at the major league level. Aside from that he's lousy. Not a clue why we should be excited about this.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 07:51 PM) Bulls win their 3rd game in a row. Hinrich and Gordon led the way. Is the I hate Ben Gordon fan club gonna give him any props? He's been playing very well of late. As one of the co-founders I gave him quite a bit of props yesterday or the day before. He's been playing much much better since entering the starting lineup.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 05:24 PM) Heh. I see CSF has a decent record right now. I don't think Lunardi puts anytime into that conference. He probably just pulled the top team off the conference standings. Damn right. Amen to a school that doesn't support its sports teams. Although one of these days I'm gonna get off my ass and go to a game. Our arena is smaller than my high school arena and I swear some of my high school basketball teams would have whipped up on Fullerton's team. That said it was cool how they made the NIT last year and this year they have a solid squad.

Jess Settles for the Hawkeyes ended up being in Iowa City for something like 6 years due to injuries and such. Mainly his back, but I remember one season he played a few games and than had to have back surgery or something and he was declared a medical redshirt.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 03:31 PM) it's very much american beauty-esque... the craziest problems in the world happen to 6 people. C+ movie at best. Another one of those movies everyone raved about that I refused to see. About the only one I actually saw was Sideways and that was a true piece of garbage.
