L.A. Fires, Wow
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 30, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) Just out of curiosity, do you think this is something that has been happening for 1000's of years, a natural burning for arguments sake, or do you think this is happening due to human error and presence? IIRC when Yellowstone had that fire (late 80s? early 90's?), after the fact most scientists were saying that this was a good thing. A clearing of the old to make way for the young, if you will. Its part of the chaperal environment. Most of the area in this region is basically an area where fires happen naturally and burn out. It just happens that now we notice it because homes are in this region. This has zero to do with humans and everything to do with natures cycle. The fires put nutrients back into the earth and a new cycle begins and 10-20 years down the road (sometimes sooner or later) the fires will be back in those areas. Now you do have the ocassional fire started by someone throwing out a cigarette butt, etc, but the basis of the problem is the plants dry up becoming freaking tinder boxes (like Balta said) and than you get the santa ana winds coming in (which help dry out and than spread the fire).

Smoking ban in Chicago coming soon!!
QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Sep 30, 2005 -> 08:33 AM) Hell yes! That makes me so happy. I live in NY, and I loooooooove the smoking ban. I honestly go to bars and bowling alleys much more now, because I know I won't have to breathe that crap. So, it will be very nice to have that also when I go home. I'm with you. I think the Cali area was the first to do this sort of ban and its freaking awesome in my book. I love being able to go into a restaurant and smell the food instead of smoke.

Do the Sox play the 4th or the 5th
QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Sep 30, 2005 -> 10:17 AM) I probably just had a brainfart, but: -Is the only way we play Anaheim in the DS, is if CLE wins the Wild Card? -And we would play the WC winner from BOS/NY in the DS, if we have the best AL record, correct? Ya, if the wild card winner is in Boston or New York than the Sox would play the wild card team. I say this because the only way this would happen is by the Sox pretty much drilling Cleveland for 3 so they'd definately have home field advantage throughout if this situation were to occur.

The Rally Crede
- Do the Sox play the 4th or the 5th
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 06:55 PM) Final home game would be Sunday. Play 5/6 days, only offday is Thu. Cool, thanks Brian So the schedule is (no times are known yet) Tuesday @ Chicago Wednesday @ Chicago Friday on the road Saturday on the road Sunday @ Chicago I guess they've yet to clinch home field in the first round just yet.- Classy Frank...
That is quite awesome. What was the party favor? A cigar?- T-Shirt Sales
That first hoodie is sweet. I love the shirt SNB and others bought, I just wish it didn't have the halfy sleeves. I'm thinking sweater but part of me wants to wait until they win the series...than I can get the playoff shirt at a discount- Do the Sox play the 4th or the 5th
Cool. I guess I'll just have ot study extra early or something. So if they play Anaheim the weekend games will be in Anaheim (the Friday and Saturday ones). Than they travel back to Chicago for a game on Monday (or so I'd guess). I'd be definately down for a Friday and Saturday Sox games in Anaheim. That would be most perfect.- Let Go Go Go White Sox Song
Ya, how do you make it a ringtone. If so tell me. I got an LG phone and I'd love it as my ring tone.- Do the Sox play the 4th or the 5th
Do we already know? I assume we don't find that out until we know who the matchup is. I just hope the Sox don't play on Wednesday or Thursday during the afternoon (got 2 big ass tests on Thursday and Wednesday I'd like to study for them). On a sidenote, I'm assuming its 2 at home, 2 on the road and then the final at home in the best of 5?- 9-28 Game Thread

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 05:51 PM) You'll be there? Pfft! You get the days off now...you need to get out there for at least one day.- 9-28 Game Thread
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 05:50 PM) Manny was in the .270-.280 range this season for a while, but was still driving in runs. Thats a solid average. Big difference between Dunn and his .250ish avg.- 9-28 Game Thread
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 05:50 PM) Fine with me. I was getting tired agreeing with everything else you've had to say anyways... Just wait till Fest...I'll be in a furious mood if Paulie isn't resigned by than.- 9-28 Game Thread
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 05:48 PM) I think a mix of both on your team is a great way to go. You need guys to get on base, but you also need guys to be able to get hits and knock runs in. That's why the Damon/Ortiz/Manny trio is so awesome. They all hit for average though.- 9-28 Game Thread
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 05:47 PM) Jason, I personally don't put a whole lot of stock into BA. I'll look at slugging and OBP over BA any day. Touche...we'll agree to disagree- 9-28 Game Thread
QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 05:44 PM) Free agent after next year. But they could play podsednik in left since juan encarnacion is a free agent at season's end. But would there really be a need for three lead-off hitters? Don't worry Ozzie isn't leaving Chicago. This is the only place he'll manage.- 9-28 Game Thread
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) You know, Tejada's numbers are incredibly off the 2nd half of the season. Its cause he's not shooting up with Raffy anymore. And we all know you'd be an steroid attic if you shot up alone.- 9-28 Game Thread
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 05:41 PM) How about for Tex? Nope. I'm not trading pitching. Not doing it. Duque and all the prospects they want, but I'm not giving up any of the big 4 or McCarthy. You can never have too much pitching and I'm not going to give pitching to anyone.- 9-28 Game Thread
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 05:39 PM) I can care less that he swings for the fences -- he's actually good at it. Very few guys in baseball can put up a .380 OBP while hitting 45+ homeruns and a s***load of doubles. It's worth a whole lot. AVG means something to me.- 9-28 Game Thread
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 05:39 PM) You know what my proposed trade is: Contreras, Marte, and Sweeney for Dunn and another player. I swear, if the Sox make that deal I'd go shoot the GM. I would barely give up Chris Young for Adam Dunn, let alone a stud pitcher like Contreras.- 9-28 Game Thread
QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 05:37 PM) I am sick of people saying that the marlins want out of delgado's contract and the same with beltre. Find me some examples of teams signing players to large 3/4 year deal and immediately trading them the following year. Both beltre and delgado will be on their respective teams next year. I'm sure Beltre will, but there is a lto of talk that Beltre or Delgado will be moved. Its pure economics and it makes no sense for the Fish to continue paying Delgaod the big bucks and let some of there young talent walk away. Plus they are having enough trouble getting a new stadium built.- 9-28 Game Thread
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 05:37 PM) I agree that Dunn doesn't execute very well. But I think it's more of a product of his team's philosophy. Just like the way Pods would swing for the fences with everyone else on the Brewers, the Reds team is an all or nothing team also. Maybe your right, but that still doesn't get past what it would cost to get him. You could get Delgado (whose better...although he gets paid more) without giving up the farm.- 9-28 Game Thread
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) And where are you going to play Delgado/PK when we're in interleague? I think Delgado is too big of a bat to have as a DH and same as PK. Neither could play any other positions. YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARDDDDDDDD........YES!!!!!!!! I don't worry about things like that. You have a DH almost the entire season and than when your in an NL park you play the matchups.- 9-28 Game Thread
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) I don't feel like getting into it, but... I strongly -- strongly disagree with your assessment on Dunn. That is all. Told you they'd score some more tonight. Aaron gets it in the air and works wonders But let me ask you this..does Dunn swing for the fences...YES. I don't want anyone that does that. He's a horrid hitter and his OPS/OBP may be great, but he can't handle the bat. Now Manny thats a freaking hitter. - Do the Sox play the 4th or the 5th
