QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) Well, he fits in with the whole latin familia thing, and at least he gives you some stability at the position. My faith in Fields panning out, obviously, isn't too high. Get me Beltre, and if Konerko isn't resigned, Overbay. Giving up the prospects will be a drag, but you're getting two next year from the arbitration picks from PK. Move McCarthy into the rotation, El Duque as our Glendon Rusch long reliever/spot starter type. Grab a couple of NRI's, and let's head to Tuscon. I was gonna say, I'd deal Fields to the Mariners as well. I'm not a big Fields fan, although I hope he pans out. Guchi comes through with a basehit. What the hell, did Pods get thrown out????

QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:55 PM) Last season was not a fluke for him? He never had an ops over .835 before last season and was over .800 only once. The he just explodes in his contract year ( surprise, surprise...) and puts up an ops over .1000? You tend to overated beltre alot. Maybe, but at the same time you guys under-rate him. He had trouble adjusting to the AL, but two years ago was also his first full season and he finally lived up to his potential. Its not like peopel didn't see him having the taletn to explode the way he does. You don't just hit 50 plus hr's and knock in 130 guys (rough estimates) while hitting well over .300 on accident. He finally got healthy and learned to lay off the s***ty pitches.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:53 PM) To tell you the truth i do not care if all of our offensive players are right handed as long as they hit right handers well. We cannot touch a right handed pitcher with any good off speed pitches. Thats true for the most part. However, a really good righty pitcher has a better shot at a really good righty hitter. Now for a mediocre righty, not too much of a concern. In general, getting good hitters is what matters. In the end my guess is the Sox will slide Guchi to the 3 slot, sign Furcal, shift Uribe to 3rd, and pick up a DH to go to the cleanup spot with Konerko sliding to the 5 hole. That won't be bad. However, I'd prefer picking up Beltre and Chad Tracy while resigning Konerko. I've long said I'd deal Marte/Duque for Tracy and If they wanted a prospect I'd give them a mid-level guy as well. Than move Gio/Sweeney and whoever the hell else for Beltre. Another name I'll throw out that a team would love to unload is JD Drew (who could DH). However, I don't see the Sox adding a Boras rep, let alone a guy thats super injury prone. If they want to do that they might as well target Griffey again in the off-season. Also, Crede with a big hit, hopefully Pods can go back up the middle to drive him in.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:50 PM) I can see beltre putting up a near .900 ops here... but still would not make him worth the money. It's not like the mariners would ever take money on, because quite frankly they should not have to. At the cell he would post a 1.000 plus OPS. Beltre is a way better player than most people here give him credit for. Last season was not a fluke for him.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:47 PM) If I had any faith that he could turn in around... and that we could get Seattle to take on some money... Adrian Beltre. I have total faith. Beltre will hit 35 HR's next year and have a .280 AVG. Beltre has been knocking in runs at a very good clip since August and is a total stud at 3rd. In fact, I think he's better than Crede over there. I'd be so thrilled if the Sox made that type of investment/addition to this club. Unfortunately I can't see Seattle giving him up and yes, I'd take the entire contract, and give up Gio and Sweeney for him.

QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:46 PM) Stop being so positove while we are all trying to be negative!!! I tell it like it is. You can't possibly expect them to get a hit everytime a runner is on base. Tonight they have done a good job getting the clutch hit, aside from that 1st inning which was totally inexcuseable.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:46 PM) It will be a 3B.... Uribe is.. 1) Healthy 2) Hispanic 3) Coachable (at least compared to Crede) Crede has offseason back surgery in his future. Drops his back shoulder more than any player in baseball, yet refuses to correct it. And is a Scott Boras client. I tend to agree with you. Of course there aren't many 3rd baseman out there that would fit my needs for the Sox (almost as good defensively as Crede, left handed bat would be a plus, but not required as long as the new DH swings from the left side). Beltre and Chavez would obviously fit that bill (I realize Chavez isn't an option). Chad Tracy can't play 3rd base full time nor can Aubrey Huff. Both of them could fit as a DH (I know there may be better options than Huff, but if you can get him for a good value I think he's worth the risk). I'll throw out another option for you. Jeff Kent as a DH. Dodgers are a total mess and could consider dealing him with a year left. The guy can still hit and could ocassionally play some 2nd and 3rd.

Sox did have 2 basehits with 2 outs tonight though. Thats not all that bad. They failed miserably in the 1st inning, but aside from that they've actually gotten a couple 2 out rallies and have hit the ball hard most of the game.

Who's your game 1 starter for the playoffs?
Ask me when the club clinches. Till than I refuse to talk about the playoffs.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:39 PM) 3 doubles and a walk for Rowand? Wow. this is like he was for the latter half of last season. If he can get going, the Sox could have a legit 3 hole hitter. *Dreams*

QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:38 PM) He currently has had two and a half awful months this year. He also had one great one and two medicore ones... will not be sad to see him go. I won't be either. Than again, I won't be sad to see Frank go either. I just hope the Sox will be creative and find a way to add two more bats while keeping Konerko. Obviously one of those bats will be at DH, the other could be at 3rd or SS. As I type this, AJ grounds out. Why the f*** won't he go opposite field. AJ has been pulling everything this year. I remember him going to left field a lot more in years past.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:35 PM) Everett has been a major disappointment of late. He's doing as awful as he was during May (where he totally stank). Hopefully he comes out of it cause the Sox are going to need him considering Ozzie is playing him every day.

Everett should be benched right now for Gload. Gload has been swinging the bat decently and they need all the production they can get.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:32 PM) Did you not hear Hawk say the same f***ing thing? I heard Hawk say that Guchi gave up on the ball early thinking Politte fielded it. I just know from the point of where the ball was hit, there was no way if he fielded it cleanly they'd of gotten the out. If Guchi is going the hole way as if it were never fielded, maybe, but even then I really doubt it, especially with a wet infield grass.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:31 PM) We've done an awful job at finishing teams off lately, and giving them no chance to comeback. Every game we get like a 4 run lead, the other team comes charging back. The Sox never really finished teams off all year. The problem is at that point it was the other teams not finishing the Sox off and the White Sox capitalizing. That and when they got a lead they did all the little things to ensure they kept the lead. They haven't been doing that lately for whatever reason (namely poor pitching and a lack of consistent hitting to expand the leads). Hopefully they get everything figured out this week and that sweep by the Angels was the final blip in the radar.

Sisco coming in. IIRC one time he shutdown the Sox and the other time the Sox hit him up pretty good. Come on Paulie, get things started.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:29 PM) Iguchi's defense continues to just deteriorate. Not saying he should have made the play, but Hawk seems to think he could have. I don't think he gets him even if he fields it cleanly. Considering all the moisture out there, its an even tougher play cause you know the grass is at least partially wet at this point.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) f*** that. It's not bad luck Hawk, it's bad managing. Nah, thats a tough luck bounce. Cliff got the soft hit grounder, just didn't work out. This inning has had some rough stuff. This time Cliff gets the comebacker and they at least keep the lead. And to think I thought this was gonna be an easy game when the Sox grabbed the 4 run lead. But once again the Sox go out and make things interesting. I swear they have been blowing a whole lot of leads as of late. Chicago...get off your arses and start producing, starting holding, and start playing to win every game. Get that focus and desire back.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) I fully understand what you're saying, but at what point do you stop thinking big picture, and take each game, every out at a time? Well if your taking each game every time, you probably would of went to the pen a lot earlier in that inning. Personally I think you lose whenever you go to your pen super early. I have faith in the Sox starters and I have a lot of faith in Jose (he's earned it).

White Sox @ Royals 9/13 Gamethread
The thing that upsets me the most this season is the constant and quick hooks in the sense of when a guy gets rolling. For the most part Ozzie sticks with his starters, but he rarely will stick with his relievers. However, while I knock Ozzie for his use of the pen, I also got to say I really like the way he worked Jenks into the pen and how he shows confidence in guys and lets them know he has confidence in them. Heck, I b**** about how he used Cotts, but at the same time he's helped turn Cotts into quite the reliever. Now Cliff, get in there and get this out.

White Sox @ Royals 9/13 Gamethread
What the f***. Your gonna make a change after Jose goes in and sits down 2 straight guys. Really pisses me off. Count pitched a solid game and Politte will probably give up a 2 run single or something. I absolutely despise the quick hooks when a guy looks like he gets rolling. Plus I'm just not a fan of using as many relievers as Ozzie has.

White Sox @ Royals 9/13 Gamethread
Buckle down Jose...you still got to get the next guy out before you any celebrating goes on.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:22 PM) I would have pulled him when he got down 2-0 to stairs. Not me, I want to see what Jose can do in this situation. He's been a different pitcher the past month and I'd like to see if he's developed the stones to get out of a pressure situation like this with the lead intact. Its something they will have to know if they win a few more games before the season ends.
