GAME THREAD 7-17-05 SOX vs INJUNS
I just hope its not too long. Cause than it puts the pitcher in an awkard position. Either he has to go after being sat for a while or you really beat up your bullpen.

Anyone think Rowand is almost done with the Sox?
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 09:55 AM) I have not seen Anderson play center field at all but Rowand has become to good of a centerfielder to kick him out of that position. If Anderson were ever going to be the centerfielder over Aaron, Aaron would have to lose that job or Brian would have to earn it, not have it just given to him. It would be like that talk early in the off-season of Pods replacing Rowand in CF. I was throwing up at the thought of that.

Anyone think Rowand is almost done with the Sox?
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 09:52 AM) Ive seen the 2 play and I think your are overating Rowand a bit and underating Anderson.... I love Rowand... and no way in hell would I want to lose him like some posters think... but defensively Id rather have Anderson in CF and Rowand in RF than the other way around. I'm not under-valuing him. Rowand gets as good of jump as any centerfielder in baseball. He has the strongest arm in the organization (well Dye may have something to say), and he flat out is balls out all the time. Anderson is very smooth out in the field and I do think he could be an above average cf, but he'll be the one playing RF, not Rowand. Thats if Anderson is in the organization next year too.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 09:44 AM) You notice that Hawk has ridden umpires much more this year? I agree that those Garland pitches were strikes but winning makes Hawk a little too pompous for my tastes. Also, saying Elarton had among the best stuff in baseball while with Houston is laughable. No, back when Elarton was healthy I think there were quite a few people who thought that of him. I know I was one of them. Elarton had some nasty stuff in his early years. Arm injuries got the best of him though.

Anyone think Rowand is almost done with the Sox?
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 09:49 AM) Brian Anderson is every bit as good as Rowand and has a better arm in CF.... also add in the fact Rowand is a natural corner fielder and Anderson a natural CF.... Short answer...no, not even close. I've seen the two play and quite frankly, Rowand is basically as good as it gets out there.

Anyone think Rowand is almost done with the Sox?
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 09:12 AM) His ops is great, he can get on base and when he hits, he hits the ball hard, problem is he doesn't hit to much. I know some people think batting average is overrated but you have to be able to hit your way on base at times and Dunn's average with runners in scoring position is just brutal. Dunn's good but I personally don't think he's great.

Hernandez To The Yankees???
If the Sox get Burnett or Schmidt without giving up one of the other starters, than I'd definately deal Duque to the Yanks.

Midseason Top 20 Prospects: 20-11
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 01:29 AM) IT should say Eight Men Out. Wait, now I'm confused cause I know he was in Field of Dreams. And they are actually distant cousins (un-related blood wise) but Ray was adopted into the family.

Anyone think Rowand is almost done with the Sox?
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 08:45 AM) If Ozzie doesn't mind having Pods in CF, and Everett in LF.....then I don't think he'd mind having Pods in CF, and Dunn in LF. As much as I like Rowand, if you could get Dunn for him, you do it in a heartbeat. Dunn at the Cell would be a monster, and he'd had no problem maintaining his power with the new steroid testing policy. So we trade Rowand and go for a power hitter that can't hit for any average. The team also weakens there defense. So essentially we go from the type of style that helped the club win 60 games this early in the season, back to the style that choked down the stretch the past couple years? Now I go a little over the top knocking Dunn cause I do realize he has a great eye, but he needs to hit .250-.260 and not in the .230 range which he was doing for most of the year. Right now he's just a better version of Konerko from the left side (I'll let people decide if thats good or bad).

Anyone think Rowand is almost done with the Sox?
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 08:39 AM) The only two players that have been discussed that I wouldn't mind the Sox trading Rowand for would be Dunn or Brad Lidge. If we were to trade Rowand, it better be for someone that will be here after this season. I don't think Rowand is going anywhere though. I'm not a big fan of B. Anderson, as he didn't overly impress me much in Spring Training, and his K numbers are quite poor. Even if Anderson isn't ready next year, and PK doesn't come back to the Sox, a cheap alternative would be move Dye to 1b (I'm confident he could do well there), and sign a cheap corner outfielder. Just like Dye this year, you can find solid outfielders at fairly cheap prices. You could get much greater value for the same price at RF than you could for a 1b (the list of 1b FA is awful this year). Screw Dunn...thats all I got to say. I can't believe how people under-value some guys on the Sox. Its ludicrous. Teams would freaking love to get their hands on Aaron Rowand. He's not even gotten hot this year and he's still putting up very very solid numbers (OPS be damned) while playing as close to gold glove defense as possible (he'll never win it with Torri in his league though).

Anyone think Rowand is almost done with the Sox?
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 07:01 AM) If Anderson comes up here he should be the CF, but thats ok... Rowand is a natural RF so thats cool anyways and believe it or not Dye has played 1B b4 that game way back when. And if we want him at 1B he can always play in a winter league or whatevr and get some time at 1B there. Its not like its impossible to learn 1B..... example being Scott Hatteburg of the A's and Dye is way ahead of Hatteburg when he was trying to learn 1st. No he shouldn't. Rowand is 5 times the defensive player in center field than Brian Anderson is. No knock on Anderson, but screw that, there is absolutely zero reason for the White Sox to move Aaron Rowand from CF. Only time he gets moved is if Torri Hunter or Andruw Jones find there way to Chicago.

Anyone think Rowand is almost done with the Sox?
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 06:53 AM) Aaron's SO/BB ratio is 4.19 while Anderson's is 2.62. So, even though he strikes out more, he has been better at the plate than Rowand. Aaron's slugging this year is below .400. Anderson is a better fielder, better arm, better athlete and overall better with the bat. Don't get me wrong, I like A-Row, but he has lost something at the plate and is more of a guy who gets a lot from not the greatest tools. Brian Anderson is not better than Aaron Rowand. Rowand is one of the 5 best defensive cneterfielders in the game and personally I think he ranks in at 3rd or 4th depending on whether him or Mike Cameron is better. Give it a rest people, Rowand is signed for the next few years, knows how to play the game, and is one of the last people Kenny would trade (and should be too).

Attendance Trends
QUOTE(tony72 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 01:02 PM) From 1.3 million in 1999 to 2.4 million in 2005 is a da.....mn good improvement !! If we draw 2.4 million this year and play decent next year...we could draw about 2.7 million in 2006 which would be great for more revenue and maybe a free agent or two... All in all, with Buerhle, Garcia and Garland as the core of your starting pitching I don't think this will be a 2000 were we were good for one year and then just a little better than average the next.. I think the White Sox could be good for three or four years which would mean over 2.5 million each year and more money for the team.. If and I mean if the Sox win the series...expect 3 million.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:20 PM) It also makes no sense that they would trade someone they have control over for the next four years or so. They need to add talent at the major league level without subtracting it. They have a good enough sytem ( and free agent money in the next two years) that trading young major leaguers should not be needed. Exactly. I could see to a lesser extent Lilly (if they fall out of the race) but as of now I don't see why they would deal major league players when they are trying to build the club and have a system. Especially when everyone is saying they are capable of adding payroll the next couple years.

It will be interesting to see how he does against the tribe (afterall, they hit him better than any other team in the bigs).

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:17 PM) I see him at best a three most likely a four. Most scouts ( from what i have read in the past) and even most blue jays fans don't think he is nearly as good as he is pitching. They are just riding his streak of good pitching and are ready for him to fall back down to earth. Good...I just see everyone drooling about him and personally I think they are crazy.

Shingo Takatsu Heading West???
QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) Well, they may want jenks on the roster by trading shingo for a prospect it opens up a spot on the roster. That way Elduque can take that spot. They rarely use shingo anyway, so this might save cash to be used somewhere else, open up a spot, and keep a hard throwing jenks in there longer for a better look. To me we are not losing much. I think thats exactly whats going to happen and its what I've heard. I don't know how much truth there is to the Shingo rumor, but I know the Sox like Jenks a lot and financially they could save a little money moving Shingo, which would give them a little more reserves for the deadline (plus it sounds like they could get at least one decent chip in return).

QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:15 PM) They could get Hinske though for little more than picking up his contract and they'd feel no pressure at all to have him sitting on the bench behind Crede and Kong, that would not be the case with Hilly. Btw, I also prefer Omar, but Crede stays at 3rd, Juan super sub. If Crede is healthy yes, if Crede is hurt or something than I said to me the best option would be getting Omar and moving Juan to 3rd. I think thats better than Juan at SS and Randa at 3b. To me Juan is a very strong defensive player (wherever he is in the infield). The big reason I'm not a fan of moving for Hilly or Hinske is they both blow ass defensively at 3rd and I don't want to see the Sox hurt their defense (if Crede goes on the DL) by acquiring a guy that can't field (I have the same feelings for Huff). If the Sox trade for a 3rd baseman or a middle infielder, they better be able to field the ball.
