  1. He was 97-98 when I saw him in Anaheim.
  2. Zach ripped that one. Alright Leury - you are due.
  3. That was a really really nice defensive play.
  4. Well played - any recommendations on powerball #'s?
  5. I see no reason why Madrigal can stay this bad - unless he literally is a 2nd coming of Chuck Knoblach/Steve Sax. Yeah - it happens - but in the sample size of baseball players that is a massive rarity. Robbie Alomar - no - he probably isn't that...but league average...I have a hard time with him not being that. I can't see him being a below average defensive player. A meh defensive player - sure - I can buy that - he definitely has physical limitations...but so do a lot of 2nd baseman.
  6. Robert is a superstar CF'er. I'd rather judge him on what I've seen from him the majority of the time vs. one massively comical and terrible folly. Vaughn - what do you all expect. Dude has never played the OF. It will clearly be an adventure there - that is why they will need to put in defensive replacements, etc. Clearly if Vaughn can't hit (and I'm not coming to that conclusion from the 3-4 games he's played) than they have to rethink things (and at some point you can trade for players too). It isn't like Eloy was good either. Eaton isn't that good - he's meh...but the other end of that platoon is Engel who is a phenomenal defender...so you are going to have 2 really good defenders more often than not in that OF. You also have a 3B/SS who have a ton of range - which helps cover a bit for Vaughn too. Nothing wrong with Grandal/Abreu.
  7. Vaughn is bad (and i can't project that he'll get better - not fair to him) - but Madrigal can't possibly stay this bad and no reason he can't at least be league average. No one else is bad and Robert is special out there. By the way - Engel is one of the better defensive outfielders as well - so when you get him back - you have far better depth and better options for defensive replacements too. So yeah - the defense has been atrocious - but I see plenty of reasons it should improve. Damn - thought Leury found the gap on that one.
  8. No - I don't think 2021 has even been bad. Pretty decent shot they will be .500 by end of the night. You all are overreacting by a few of the Sox relievers blowing leads and pourous defense. There is plenty of positives from this season too - including Kopech, Rodon, Crochet, Yermin, Collins, etc. And while there are negatives - I'm not giong to assume Abreu will suck (not after 5 games)...and I always think Robert has the talent to be a star (regarless of being messed up)....Vaughn - same thing, yeah he's not good now...but that has no bearing on whether he'll be real good in the long run...potentially good even this year. Note: Vaughn just stroked that - had a good take earlier and did exactly what you should on that double.
  9. Or the gun is off. The velocity for the righties yesterday was a couple MPH low. Kopech looked harder than the 94-96 he was throwing. Maybe gun is picking up lefties a bit more than the righties? It happens sometimes.
  10. I do. I don't judge the team on a 5 game sample size - I judge it based upon the talent and capability to win. Baseball is 162 - the overreaction is terrible. They blew some games and played horrible ball to the Angels - who are 4-3 and don't look that bad.
  11. That was a total meatball Gio just threw.
  12. The only concerning part of this inning is Lucas. Vaugn - meh; Collins - meh; Madrigal D - concerning...but no way should he be this bad. Gio being all over the place w/low velocity - worrisome.
  13. No - not true at all. The defense is bad and there is a lot more left in this game. This team is still good...very good.
  14. Yeah - that was bad form on the block. This is just comical. I've said for a long time - this club's defense is absolutely brutal and it is showing up in high form right now.
  15. I don't disagree with you there. I hope Lucas is okay.
  16. Its back to - he is playing super tight. And you knew as soon as Madrigal messed that up it would come back. Have any of his errors not bit this team.
  17. I don't disagree with that - I'm just saying people ripped his last season when yes, his defense wasn't great, but he hit .340. .340.
  18. Well - he got hate last year and hit .340. So the only way he doesn't get hate is if he hits .400 (I think). But his fielding has been terrible this season - so that I agree with. I think his bat will be fine - but no - he will probably never ever be a special player, but I certainly think he can be an above average 2nd baseman - that just isn't all that crazy valuable.
  19. He's playing so tight right now. It doesn't get any easier than that DP.
  20. Collins looks the part too. Hitting ball well and on that HR he stayed back and creamed it. When you combine that with his propensity to draw a walk - I think he's going to pan out too.
