  1. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ May 9, 2005 -> 02:16 PM) I have to say...Wilbon in my head is probably one of the most respectable scrubs fans out there. He always tells it like it is and really isnt biased when he reports. If I was a good writer I was thinking about writing up one of those online petitions to get kotex boy ousted from Around the Horn or at least something to tell the sun-times i refuse to read thier paper and would rather read the other paper that owns the flubs.... if anyone could do it try out Online Petition PTI is just a great show. And completely agree with what you say on Wilbon.
  2. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ May 9, 2005 -> 10:01 AM) Nyquill = godliness. I can have a real tough problem sleeping if I'm sick, that stuff kicks ass. Nyquill is about the only medicine I take and thats only when being sick keeps my up.
  3. QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ May 9, 2005 -> 12:55 PM) See, I TOLD you there's liberal bias in the media! Seriously though Congrats Apu. You'll have to post the transcript to your stories up here or something. I'll check them out.
  4. QUOTE(quickman @ May 9, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) If he is anything like he was in spring training, he is not worth it.Robin the player and robin the broadcaster are two different things. I didn't get to hear him in spring and I guess that may of been a blessing, lol. Still I'm one of the few that likes DJ. He can have me rolling while watching the game. He's freaking hillarious in my book. Remember I have to listen to Rex Hudler do the Angel games so anything in comparison to him is amazing.
  5. QUOTE(JimH @ May 9, 2005 -> 01:50 PM) LaMura was out of Clemson if I recall. I remember one of the Sox brass commenting when he was drafted that they felt he had a chance as a solid bullpen guy. He started and relieved in college I'm pretty sure. He was a mid round pick, within the top 10 rounds, so they saw something they liked. Ya, I was thinking either Clemson or Texas A&M and I think Pollock was the one from A&M. I remember he didn't have world beater numbers from Clemson but that he supposedly had a good arm. I also think your right on him being both a reliever/starter. In fact I think he was a closer part of the time there because IIRC somewhere there was talk of both him and Botch being in the Sox system together (Botch closed for Clemson I think).
  6. I can't wait to catch part of this game (until I go to my night class). I just want to hear Robin in the booth.
  7. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 9, 2005 -> 09:48 AM) This begs the question: What constitues a start? Does this "start" extend to the All-Star break? Does it end after a set amount of games, wins, or losses? At what point does a "start" turn into a regular season record? ...I suppose that's more than one question. Another question is...when is a slump not a slump and more a sign of flat being bad (ie the Yankees or even Cleveland).
  8. My vote is worry about this when Frank is ready.
  9. QUOTE(Wedge @ May 9, 2005 -> 11:09 AM) These match-ups are in our favor, right? Chen has been pitching his ass off just like Garland so thats gonna be a wash. I like the Buerhle/Garcia ones towards the Sox while Bedard has been pitching like a maniac so I'd give him the nod. However, if the Sox play baseball (pitch well, catch the ball, and execute) they are capable of winning every game...same can be said for the Orioles. Wow that was a bold statement ehh
  10. QUOTE(El Piervizdyeguchansodnik @ May 9, 2005 -> 07:40 AM) This series is getting hyped up big time. I went over to the O's board and they are geeked for the series. They want to beat us so bad and be the best team. Their problem is they are run on offense like we were the past few years. They will hit their slumps. Except for Tejada. Well if they keep getting the pitching they have from Bedard, Ponson, etc then they'll be in it for the long haul. I'm still waiting to see how the pitching holds up. They do have one heck of an offense though. They aren't just on power either cause Roberts has great speed and even Sosa isn't all that slow. They aren't stealing as many bases as the Sox, but IIRC they are in the top 3 or 4 in stolen bases in the AL. Its going to be a great series and this next stretch will be interesting. First the Sox got to keep focusing one game at a time though.
  11. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 9, 2005 -> 01:17 PM) Dickweed brings his 4 games vs. + .500 teams argument. Hey Captain dips*** who the f*** made Tornoto a .500 team This is a show about arguing so if I were on it I'd be discussing the same things if I were talking about the flip side.
  12. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 9, 2005 -> 01:48 PM) What do you mean by waiver priority? I always thought the team with the worse record has priority. I think last year's record is out the window for this year since the season is more than 30 days old. Are you sure you move to the end of the line if you claim a player? I don't think that is true. No you don't, it goes by record and league. If its an AL player they go from the worse record to the best to claim and then it goes to the NL from the worse record team to the best record. Once a player clears waivers during the year then they are free to move between the majors and AAA for that entire season as well (If I understand waivers correctly). In the case of Burke he only has to clear once again because he is being removed from the 40. Edit: Maybe the only time waiver priority would come into effect would be in the case of a tie (where two AL teams have the same record, which team gets the shot at claiming the player first)? Otherwise I'm 99% sure there is no such thing as waiver priority, I know it comes down to record. Also the reason teams often times let guys slip through waivers and then negotiate with them is for financial purposes. If you claim them then you pick up the remaining contract. However, if they clear waivers and become FA's then you can offer them the league minimum and the team that waived him is responsible for the rest of his contract.
  13. Assuming he clears I think he'll remain in the organization, but still, I would think he'd at least check in if another team had more of an opening for potential major league playing time. Jamie's a good guy and I wish him nothing but the best. Although he would definately be a loss, I know the Sox have Big Ben down in AAA, but Burke provided good depth down in Charlotte and could always help the Sox out in a bind. Its funny how they pulled him from the 40 because it wasn't like they didn't have an open spot. Unless when Willie went on bereavment it opened up a roster spot on the 40 (is that possible)?
  14. QUOTE(danman31 @ May 9, 2005 -> 01:34 PM) Yeah, but it's a pitchers' park and numerous guys have not been able to make it in AAA going into a hitters' park. Smith, Phillips, and Villacis all have had troubles in AAA after good seasons in AA. I'm keeping a cautious eye, but I've been impressed with his work in AA since he got promoted. In Villacis case, he's just not good. In Smith's case I'm kind of puzzled because I think he's a good that at the very least will be a AAAA type of player who just won't be able to ever stick in the majors while Phillips probably could of used some more time in Bham, imo. As far as Lamura goes, he has the stuff, imo but still has more to learn. It will be intersting because he's long had to work on repeating his delivery and getting a more consistent curve. Sounds like he's been doing that thus far this year because he has a good fastball and when that curve is on its quite good as well.
  15. QUOTE(JimH @ May 9, 2005 -> 08:36 AM) The pitcher who's really starting to intrigue me is BJ LaMura. He's had some eye popping stats at Birmingham thus far. He's got a good arm, always has. He's really made some strides from his college days too.
  16. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 8, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) And Walker was???? Baj has a 0.77 ERA right now, Walker with a 6.00 How are you going to feel when Walker takes the bump in any game? On a 24-7 team, I wont be to happy. The only reason Walker is up is because he pitched well in spring and Ozzie got to see him pitch well first hand. Baj or Fields would of been the better call if they wanted an extra reliever and with Marte/Cotts in teh pen its not like the Sox need a 3rd lefty. Baj pitched well in spring but rarely got any action in games Ozzie was managing. And he wasn't bad last year, he had some awful luck and the numbers were awful.
  17. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2004 @ May 8, 2005 -> 02:17 PM) Seven guys in the pen? Not to mention Walker is a cross between Billy Botch and Antonio Alfonsucka. Well the Sox will have a tough series or two coming up so it isn't necessarily horrible to have the extra lefty in the pen.
  18. QUOTE(T R U @ May 5, 2005 -> 07:53 AM) I dont get how you cant like DJ, hes funny.. I love listening to games with DJ up there, hes great I'm with you. I find myself laughing histerically at the games. DJ is awesome...with Hawk and without him. Now for Don...well he's not the greatest in the world but I still find myself entertained. And I for one, love the UH-OH....it just reminds me of Family Guy
  19. QUOTE(Princess Dye @ May 7, 2005 -> 12:50 PM) maybe this sounds odd, but i'm just glad to see that he still isnt walking people. i'll live with performances like today, where he says 'here it is hit it'..... even when they do hit it, i prefer this approach to the problems from last year where he would not challenge people i dont see him ever being an absolutely unhittable type guy..... but if he's going to go about things the way he has in every start this year..... he's got a spot in my rotation as long as he wants it Its tough he was pitching on long breaks damn near ever inning and when he fell behind he'd give them the pitches. He did his job, they won the game and Garland is kicking some butt!!!!
  20. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ May 6, 2005 -> 08:30 PM) If you have noticed, Charlotte has been a revolving door of players the past few years. The Sox make more in season acquisitions there than all of their other minor league teams combined. At least it seems that way....... It also seems to be a cursed ballpark. They seem to have more injuries then most of the teams and a lot of the top prospects tend to show up and flounder there, even the hitters and its an extreme hitters park.
  21. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 6, 2005 -> 05:30 PM) (Let the Ozzie castration for leaving in Duque begin) Over/Under: 17 posts I can't stand watching Duque pitch...whether its the first or the 7th, I have zero faith in him and his pension for throwing so many damn pitches and falling behind so many hitters. He's getting the job done though and hopefully he finds his command and stays healthy and does even better.
  22. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ May 6, 2005 -> 05:28 PM) Crede had a very short lead. Not sure why Frasor was so worried about him. I'd rather see Crede run than Uribe...Sox should make it a law to keep Uribe from stealing. He is so horrid.
  23. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 6, 2005 -> 05:27 PM) If Kenny acquired Huff, it would just about compensate for my sadness of losing Carlos Lee. Seriously, I know that this organization likes Brian Anderson, but I'd bet that he's the number one trading chip in a blockbuster deal. They aren't going to trade McCarthy, and same with Sweeney. If we win the world series..I don't care what Kenny does for the next 3 years. I know I'll b**** regardless, but I'd just be happy with one world series trophy...its worth 50 years of suckitude.
  24. QUOTE(Brian @ May 6, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) IF..there is a game 7 and Duhon still can't go, I'd start Pargo at point. Hinrich can play point and Pargo can defend the point. I want Hinrich running the offense...hell I can't stand it when he's offensively set as the two guard. He should always be moving the ball up the court. Well I don't mind it when Duhon is the other guard, but when its Ben/Pargo I have a problem.
