QUOTE(T R U @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 10:13 AM) Ive got Jon penciled in for 18 wins, I called it before the season I am sticking to it.. BTW I found another thing Garland said after the game, I dont know if I am the only one to see this or not but here it is...

Paulie goes way back!!!! 1-0 Sox

1st pitch in about 2 minutes

Wow, horrible horrible story.

Definate must win tonight. I was so impressed with how they played yesterday, responding so well to the news that Curry will miss the rest of the season (both regular and post).

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 11:24 AM) He'll probably trade the pick if he ends up getting the #1 overall unless Sloan really wants him. I doubt it though. I see Bogut just being another Mehmet Okur. Bogut has much more low post presence than Mehmet. Mehmet lives outside of the pain. He's a poor man Arvidis Sabonis.

Mariotti is right though. Best things the Cubs could do is get rid of Baker. He's absolutely atrocious and I've never seen a guy ruin such a pitching staff by overworking his staff.

Alright I've long pondered this so I'm going to bring it up. I've always wondered why so many fans hate a player because he makes such and such amount of money. Out here in SoCal tons of people hate Darren Dreifort cause he makes 11 million a year and is hurt. They call up on sports radio and try to call him an asshole, etc. I know many Bull fans hate AD because he makes big bucks. You have all those people that call A-Rod Pay-Rod. I don't get it, why hate a player because a team or owner is willing to give him money. If your going to hate a player hate it because of his production on th field or him being an ass to fans off the field or getting in trouble with the law. Its kind of one of my peeves. People always call players greedy (and yes there are plenty of greedy players) but fact is they are getting these multi million dollar offers from the owners. What do you want them to do, no, I'm going to turn down this 35 mill deal and sign for 20 million with some small payroll club. None of us would do that if you had a job offer (at a place you wanted to go to and a job you liked) for like 5 mill at some other company compared to the 100,000 your making now (Just throwing out some make believe numbers).

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 09:21 AM) talk about an over-reaction :banghead Nah its been building. I absolutely loathe the way he handles this bullpen, not to mention the way he handles the lineups when he plays a reserve. There is absolutely zero reason to have Jermaine Dye in the 5 hole right now. Aaron is hitting the ball well and Dye's swing is looking fugly at this point. Swap the two of them and put AJ in between. Its only the smart thing to do. To add to that he had AJ bunting in one of the situations with runners on 1st and 2nd (when all that was being thrown were balls by Piniero). Its early in the game and you have a productive hitter out. I don't really think then is a good time to be trying to manufacture your runs, especially with a lousy bunter at the plate. At least not against a guy like Piniero who is coming back from an injury. If its against someone like Johan Santana or an ace then you do it. In that situation it was a bad call, imo. ANd remember I don't question moves after the fact, I only question stuff before the fact and I was just shaking my head the 2nd I saw AJ try to lay down the bunt on the 1st pitch.

I may be able to. I used to be able to speak it semi fluently. Don't know how much I'd know in terms of car parts but I may be able to translate the gist of it. Eek, if its pretty simple I may be able to get it semi grammatical in writing to him but my skills of putting together sentences have regressed cause I haven't even spoken the language in like 2 years. 4 yrs of french in high school and not liking the french will do that to you I guess

I should add, I'm not saying Rolen isn't good. He's the 2nd best in the league. All you got to do is watch Beltre for a couple weeks and you'll see his the best 3rd baseman in all of baseball (defensively and offensively). He has soft hands, great range, and an absolutely CANNON. Plus he makes the short roller down the line look so easy.

Tracey pitched in Winston Salem last year and was there ace. This season he is in Birmingham and is rated #5 by FutureSox.com. Tracey picked up his first AA win on tax day (April 15, 05). He pitched excellent and was hitting 94 on the gun (courtsey of BhamBarons). He's got an awesome arm, I deem it a rubber arm and throws a good slider as well. Really turned into a top notch prospect last year and he a shot with a good season to pretty much assure him as the #2 pitching prospect in the organization. Tracey was claimed off waivers by Baltimore March 23, 2007

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 12:00 AM) http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...tesox-headlines I don't think I'd feel very good about that comment if I was willie. Guillen is a pompous ass just like Hawk was. I'm sick of seeing Willie get trashed in every media circle by some in the organization. The guy happens to be hitting .400 this year and has more talent then Ozzie did after his injury. Ozzie needs a reality check and he needs to stop trashing players in the media. Learn to STFU. Sorry, only thing Ozzie does well or at least seems to is motivate his players and getting them to play hard. He's lucky thats one of the keys to managing becuase other than that he's a total POS. If I'm looking into this too far, fine, but Ozzie has ripped enough of his former players and enough of the current players. I don't get why Willie always gets trashed and its like a joke in the media. I can't think of many managers that make jokes like that when quoting in the media. I've heard jokes, but nothing at this level.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 10:39 PM) Judith is a little b****. Hopefully he continues to outperform his past so that he justifies the Sox cimmittment in him but I fear his good start is an aberration an that he is till the 12-12 pitcher with a 4.500 era he's been for awhile Out of the 5th starters spot there is nothing to complain aobut with those kind of numbers. OF course he's going to put up better numbers than that. Jon will win 15 games minimum.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 01:37 AM) Beltre plays better defense than Rolen? I hope you're joking... Not even close to joking. Those that watch Beltre play every day or close to it will soon see just how sick of a defensive player he really is.

Ya that was a drubbing. Quite fun to watch of course I only watched it during the commercials of the Sox game.

your personal worst sports moment

Getting a partial tear in my rotator cuff. Nothing worse than that cause my arm hurt like a bastard every and anytime I tried throwing the ball after that. Especially since I never had any operation or anything. Since then I've built semi strength back but that sucked ass cause my playing days ended (not that I was going to be a pro or anything). In terms of being on the field. We were a few games away from making the state finals. I'm thinking Semi's for the SoCal area (may be wrong on that cause I never understood exactly how things went) and I had started the game before and we had inning limits so I couldn't go in this game except out of the pen. We were already losing, but I came in with the bases loaded and nobody out. Got 2 quick outs then on the next play got a pop out but the 2nd baseman dropped it. I then had to face there best hitter, meatball, grandslam (never had I given up one and never have I since). On the plus side I was 3-4 in the game and scored our teams only runs. -
Really there aren't any great Chicago Bulls message boards, imo. But there are some pretty big ones. I don't know if www.bulls4ever.com is still around but they always had a big board. Its part of realgm.

Jon was phenomenal. I was still dissapointed that he got a little rattled after giving up the walk to Reed. He started leaving stuff up but was able to get through it and luckily Hermy came in and got the save cause it would of been a real bummer if Jon didn't get that victory.

QUOTE(marinergeek @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 03:50 PM) Felix has been the subject of much debate on our forum. We're pretty devided about it. My gut feel is he will bee a post all-star bullpen addition. As far as "sticking" with the club, I think that the goal of M's managmenet is to call him up when he's ready and not have him going back and forth between the Majors and AAA. Here's a link to a thread dedicated to the subject: The Great Felix Debate I saw him pitch a game this spring and put it this way, the kid is right on the brink. He still has some command issues, but just watching him pitch I was left thinking I was seeing one of the best arms of the past 10 years (no joke). The mix between his fastball and curve is just filthy. Assuming he stays healthy and can throw strikes, he's going to be phenomenal.
-
Just to give my two cents. Pineiro may of gotten the loss but he looked pretty sharp. He could of had better command but as usual when watching Joel pitch he had some awesome breaking pitches. His problem was simply the strike zone, but all in all I'd have to say it was a good outing. I've long wished he could find his way on over to the South Side, pretty much ever since he creamed the Sox in his MLB debut. On a sidenote, you guys got a true stud in Beltre. I'm from the SoCal area and watched him play a ton and he's absolutely the best defensive 3rd baseman in baseball. Rolen gets the love, but Beltre is better, no doubt about it and offensively as long as he remains semi patient (that was the big difference for him last year) he'll continue to put up monster numbers.

QUOTE(IgnatiusReillyTheThird @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 03:49 PM) All I know is that you guys have some great avatars in here. As for the birkenstock and coffee jabs...oh yeah, all you Chicago guys, um...get blown away? It's windy there, right? Or something. Illinois? Freddy is indeed the great unknown - if he pitches like he did in 2001 / parts of 2004, I would see it was a pretty equal trade. Considering the M's were known to want to ditch him though, I'd say they did well regardless. If Freddy pulls a 2003 - it MIGHT make some of us feel better about the Varitek / Lowe trade of long ago. Pierzynski seems to be fairly well liked by the fans here - no incidents yet? AJ has been a blessing for the White Sox. The signing may not of been a big ticket move by ESPN analysts, but he's the best catcher the Sox have had since Carlton Fisk. He calls a superb game and just gets along with everyone in the clubhouse. Plus once the game starts he means nothing but business. Good hitter, real smart player, and he does all the little things that help your ballclub win. For example he had a terrific take out slide in the 8th inning today on Boone that prevented a double play and in turn got Rowand in. That run turned out to be a pretty big one. They may of won by two, but had they not been the infielders would of been in when Hermy came in and well thats a whole nother scenario.

QUOTE(wufners @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 03:45 PM) The Garcia trade was definitely good for the Mariners. Our catching cupboard is pretty pathetic and Randy Wynn just wasn't cutting it as a centerfielder. I dont' think Garcia had much interest in resigning with the Mariners either. I think there's some bad blood there. A year or so back, they had a kind of ugly arbitration hearing with him in which he won. The difference in money was less than a $million, but the PR savy Mariners came out and cried that because of Freddy we can't afford to improve the team at the trading deadline. Freddy can be a bit of a headcase too. His stuff is great, but for some reason he can develop a mental block that prevents him from pitching well. With some of the problems he had with Mariner management (they also traded away his buddy, Carlos Guillen) I doubt he would have ever pulled his head out for them. Looks like he's put it together for you guys so far this year, eh? Were his performances as good as his numbers look? Sunday should be a fun game. The Mariner's starter tonight was thinking about staying at Freddy's house during the the series. With any luck for you guys, he'll be showing up at today's game with one heck of a hangover. Looks like a tip top place y'all got here. Your emoticons are much more violent and drunk then the ones we have. I dig. By the way--did you enjoy Ben Davis? When you look at the Garcia trade, It really does seem like one of those trades thats good for both teams. Garcia is a workhorse pitcher with filthy stuff and gets along very well with Ozzie (considering they have family ties). The Sox gave up a good deal of talent betting they could get Freddy to agree to a deal and they got him at less than market value (it was an insane market for FA pitching this year). The Mariners got rid of a guy they didn't want to pay and immediately added two young starters (Reed, Olivo) as well as a good shortstop prospect in Mike Morse. Personally I think Reed is the guy that will be solid out of the trade as I'm just not a fan of Olivo's plate calling skills or his offense. Hell, to be honest every time he was at the plate tonight I had full confidence in whoever was on the mound that he'd be a routine out. Still Jeremy Reed has a shot to be a real fun player to watch for a real long time. As far as Ben Davis goes, I don't think he was all that bad with the Sox last year and he's been hitting the ball well down in AAA. Attitude was good and he had some clutch hits last year for the club. Wouldn't call him great, nor would I call him bad.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 02:43 PM) No, I know they can't do it themselves. I'd have to look at one of the value charts to see if it is realistic for any team to move up. It just seems that some teams really, really love Edwards or Brown (Edwards especially), while Cleveland may not be very interested in him there. Thats the problem. Teams don't want to move up. Tampa is the only team that wants to and there are some rumors the Titans could be interested as well. Bottom line, the Bears would probably move down as well, but no teams are willing to give much anything worthwhile to move up, simply because this is a draft that has talent all over and at the top of the draft you could argue the talent isn't necessarily superior or at least it isn't when compared to previous drafts.
