  1. Well I'm assuming he'd be non tendered and would get a good amount less. In arbitration he'd likely get more compared to what he'd get on the open market. I'd say anywhere from 1.5-2.5 million a year, more likely on the higher side.
  2. More on Shawn Chacon: A source has indicated the White Sox have an interest in acquiring Rockies reliever Shawn Chacon, an All-Star in 2003. The Rockies have been trying to trade the arbitration-eligible right-hander, but the Sox are not looking to make a deal. Instead, the belief is that the Rockies will not be able to trade Chacon and he will not be tendered a contract by the team, making him a free agent. The Cubs have been rumored to be interested in Chacon, as well, with the intention of making him a middle reliever. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chacon would be a good free agent signing at the right price.
  3. I'm implying if he is non-tendered, which I've seen speculated at a few different places (in terms of rotoworld, etc).
  4. They probably had more guys on the DL (payroll wise) then the Sox had in terms of payroll. Preston Wilson, Denny Neagle, still paying some of Mike Hamptons contract, Charles Johnson, Todd Helton, Larry Walker. They probably have amassed what I would call the team of the worse contracts in baseball (at least last year).
  5. Disagree because Everett can't play RF and you can't depend on that. I think a healthy Jay Gibbons hits .270 with 30 HR's at the cell. His OBP would likely be a little low, but hopefully he can improve upon that, plus he plays a very solid RF and can even play 1st if you need him to. He is a very good defensive first baseman from the times I saw him play it with the Orioles. Plus I think Gibbons could be had for 2 or 2.5 million while Everett costs the Sox 4 million and is more of a health risk. Gibbons is also younger and getting ready to enter the prime of his career. I would be quite excited if the Sox signed Gibbons. It may not stream up a lot of attention amongst most, but he has the ability to turn into a pretty darn good player.
  6. So the question is whether he'll get a raise because of his save numbers or will his salary stay the same because of the high ERA. I was going to say if he was due some big raise the Sox could potentially swing Everett and a prospect for Chacon but I guess that isn't an option cause Chacon at most would make 2.5 next year. I like the idea of Chacon, assuming the Sox don't have to give up anyone amazing for him. I think he's one of those high reward type of guys that could really pan out.
  7. Gibbons, if healthy, could put up monster power numbers in Chicago while hitting for a decent average. In the 6th spot of the lineup it wouldn't be a bad option, plus he would provide something the Sox haven't had in a long time (left handed pop). IF he gets non-tendered I'd add him on the list of guys. I rate him ahead of Burnitz and below Dye, although Gibbons gets an extra notch soley because he's left handed.
  8. What is Chacon supposed to make this year? I know the Rockies want to deal him because of his contract so is he arbitration eligible or is he due a raise due to an extension he signed a year or two back???
  9. I'm glad cause to be honest, if the Sox didn't make any changes and had the payroll set at 75 million they could spend about 12 million on a pitcher/reliever and go into the season and I'd be quite pleased with the team. The only thing I'd gripe about would be Everett playing RF and I guess the fact that Willie isn't a proven leadoff hitter. But a good late inning reliever (meaning a setup type guy) and a good starter, which you should be able to get both for 12 million would be awesome to me. Hell, I still say that could be the offseason works out if the Sox don't agree to some type of deal of Konerko/Lee. IF they do trade Lee or Konerko then I expect them to sign a bat to replace them, just not to as expensive as a contract.
  10. Well good, that tells me that KW does look somewhat at stats. It also tells me they must be well aware of Konerko's poor road splits.
  11. Based on that assessment, could KW be trying to get an ace knowing that a fallback plan must be getting a solid 5th starter. Its obvious they need to learn from this mistake the past few years cause its really killed the Sox.
  12. To be honest I think the people here know an assload more then any writer for the trib in general, imo. Well at least some of the people here and with all the knowledge combined on this board ...well, we could fuel a super army, haha. But Polanco is a much better player then Christian Guzman and I mean way SUPERIOR.
  13. The Sox payroll currently sits very high. Just to give some of the big names: Lee Konerko Thomas Everett Thats 22 million between them Jose Contreras Mark Buehrle Freddy Garcia Jon Garland (figuring 4 million) Thats 24 million between them That alone puts the Sox at 46 million. Then you have the bullpen with Shingo/Marte/Politte combining to make 5 million New Total 51 million Then you have all the other players who are going to get raises. If the rest of the roster guys average 750 K (a realistic assumption) you get 10.5 extra million (of course some of those roster spots will be filled by FA/trades which will cost more). That puts the Sox payroll at 61.5 million and its probably a little higher then that in all honesty at this point. This means if the Sox payroll is at 75 million they have 14 million to spend (based on my very leniant numbers).
  14. I still don't have a problem with Chacon, assuming it won't cost much in terms of minor leaguers. Chacon has loads of potential and could turn into a very good setup man and if all things fail or an injury happens he can also be an effective back of the rotation starter. By the way, I would be thrilled if the Sox signed Matt Clement.
  15. I think Kenny has already hinted that they don't intend to use Everett as RF. I think they either move Konerko and just live with Everett as a part time DH/outfielder or move Lee and go with Everett or Gload in LF while picking up a RF like Dye/Guillen/etc.
  16. If each of them produced at least years rate, I'd say it would be a top 3 outfield. The Angels could be better if it acquired Carlos Beltran (That would potentially be the greatest outfield of all time).
  17. Maggs is an ass; Jose sucks ass and Konerko is only going to be traded for another valuable player, imo. Plus that hasn't happened yet. The Sox also added Freddy Garcia, Jose Contreras and potentially a good starter via fa/trade.
  18. Hey, since Williamson is hurt I just edited the poll to include Osuna instead (since u mentioned that). Tell me if you want me to change it back and I will
  19. Yes, but I charge outrageous interest rates
  20. It wouldn't be tough for the Sox to get me, they'd just have to give me about 100,000 a year

Ya, roughly that. I don't have the numbers on me right now, but thats essentially how it works, give or take a million bucks.

I think its like a 2.5 million buyout. So instead of the Sox accepting his 9 or 10 million player option (not sure what it is) they could instead buy out his contract (meaning he can't accept his option either) and he becomes a free agent but does get his buyout from the White Sox. For example the New York Mets declined the 10 million dollar option on Al Leiter, instead choosing to go with his 2 million dollar buyout, making him a free agent.
  23. Its an expensive photo program if you buy it at a store. Its what a lot of graphic designers use (although they typically go with Adobe Illustrator). But I think most of the people use it and probably download it (I am not condoning this, hehe).

This is potentially Thomas's final year. The Sox hold a buyout on his contract after this year if I recall. Well its likely his final year under this contract, although he could very well resign again for less. While Kenny doesn't like Frank, him and JR have an outstanding relationship. Just like JR and Arn Tellem (his agent) have a great relationship which is why I think if Nomar doesn't get much loving out their that the Sox could swoop in and be a player on a one year deal.
  25. Plus with his work ethic his shot should just improve slowly and slowly. He could turn into a Eric Snow type player (how his offense slowly developed into something rather decent). Love the way he plays defense and picks apart defenses as a rookie though.
