I agree - I think Scioscia goes to a team in rebuild mode vs. a team like the Sox and even than I don't know whether Mike is interested in managing anymore. Part of it may just be because he had a long run calling the shots and in the new era that flexibility rarely exists. I imagine they are going to move pretty swiftly in hiring a replacement.

This could push him down a path of being a Josh Hader type. Which - if that helps the Sox get a few world series rings - I'm okay with it.

They didn't see eye to eye - I don't know that Mike didn't leverage analytics, he just didn't want to be told by the front office and the GM about what he needed to do with them. I think it was broader than just Mike not accepting analytics. That said - he certainly has a much heavier lean towards being a pure baseball guy vs. a pure analytics guy. His run with the Angels ended badly, but the Angels have struggled for a while under Arte Moreno and Mike was never calling the shots when it came to the guys they signed to big money FA contracts. Very rarely did anyone ever look at a Scioscia managed team and think that the team underachieved. He is an interesting name, but I doubt he'll get his next change with this Sox squad. I think Mike would be a more likely fit with the Tigers or somewhere else and that is if he even wants to get back into it. Would be a guy worth chatting with though - after as long of a run managing as he had, it would be interesting to see the perspectives he's gained from a few years being out of the game.

Sox Press Conference - 11am 10/12 - RR out as Sox manager

Helpful context - thank you; I was going to say - I would love Ricky as a bench coach - just don't think I could see him doing it right now (a year after being removed). I don't mind him being involved in the organization though - I think he's a great human being and a good baseball guy. He also isn't a bad manager, but he's not a great manager either. -

If you really think about it - both Bulls organization and Sox organization are operating in entirely new frontiers at the moment. Bulls with fully rebuilt front office (including an expensive head coach hire) and now Sox blowing up the MGR and likely looking at hiring an outsider with experience. The big caveat is I don't know if Hinch/Cora will command top dollar or not (due to the scandal they were previously involved in). I still presume they do - especially Cora who I presume the Red Sox are going to make an aggressive play to get back. -

What does that mean? That mean he could stay on? Clearly not as a bench coach, I can't imagine that happening. -

Batting Robert, the inability to actually rest the bullpen over final week of season (it was so bad - it was like they were trying to win every game by using their horses too much but in odd situations) and more importantly or just as importantly the mismanagement of Yoan Moncada. -

If he was available - I guarantee that is who the Sox would hire. I can't imagine that happens unless Cleveland decides he wants to ink Sandy long term. Girardi, Hinch, Francona, Cora. Two of those guys aren't available - but I think it would be any of those 4 guys in general. -

X's & O's - he was't very good. Managing the clubhouse and the lockeroom and just the overall team - he was very good. I always feel the X's and O's is overrated, especially since I assume front office is calling a lot of shots these days and I value people who can command the respect of the team, etc. Was really surprised Sox made the move - but can appreciate and respect the fact that they are leaving it all out there and making sure they do everything they can. This move certainly signals that. -
He had a hell of a run as pitching coach. Maybe his time is up in baseball as the digital era emerges, but as a whole - I will remember Cooper as one being one of the better pitching coaches in the game for a long long time. Best of luck to you Don & thank you for all the great memories as pitching coach for the Sox!

Never any doubt - none! Hahahaha. The posting helped and Mack - you stepped up in 2nd half!!!
-
Yeah - that was nice. They had been so predictable in their use of Patterson this season - was nice to see them open things up a bit more. I am expecting to see more of Kmet at some point today too.
-
Now defense - get the ball back to the offense right here!
-
In Nagys defense - he has called some nice plays in this one. Foles missed a wide open td and the first drive where Foles missed wide open Robinson and the interception wasn’t a bad play either. let’s hope Foles is about to go on a hot streak for rest of the game!
-
Depends on what happens. Pace is a tough one cause he has found some good value picks but he has also missed on a lot of first rounders.
-
Yes - Mack’s lack of production is just as big of an issue as their shoddy QB play. Guy hasn’t delivered - PERIOD!
-
The big thing for me is not going to Cam. Cowardly. I said it before - if you want to take a swing swing big. Newton was either going to be rejuvenated and great or he was a low risk guy you move on from. Foles is better than this - you just know he is totally mediocre. But Foles is good enough you know whether it’s Nagy or a talent issue.
-
If you are going to suck - might as well just suck
-
Khalil Mack and Robert Quinn - where in the world are they?
-
That was a bad decision to Robinson.
-
That was worse than any miss I saw from Mitch. That was brutal #2. Foles, sans one quarter, has looked worse than Mitch did in every other quarter thus far. I hope a switch flips here - if not - it is going to be an interesting week and what bears do. Would be nice if defense could do something here.
-
Pagano doesn’t do it for me.
-
His miss was bad but that pick to Robinson...three times this year with Robinson. Bears defense is a real issue. They have way too much money allocated to side of the football for the piss poor pass rush and inability to create turnovers.

Are Dunning and/or Cease Slotted into the 2021 Starting Rotation?
Chisoxfn replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This - they both should absolutely be in the rotation. Lopez is the one who is on the out and hopefully he is able to make the necessary changes and step up next year - I'm sure there will be an opportunity if he looks the part (whether out of the bullpen or in spring training, etc). I really don't think the Sox need to do much in the rotation - other than finding creative ways to get an ace (Bauer). If you can't get an ace in the off-season, maybe a one year stop-gap while counting on young guys to get better and if they don't, at the trade deadline look to be aggressive. -
I was going to say that too - good tacos are good at any time. My college ritual during finals week was to get up super early and get regular tacos from a really good hole in the wall place, wash it down with a coke, and than crank through finals. I always called it the breakfast of champions!
