  1. The Twins fan got his word in, he's going back to dealing with the Twins and we all will go back to worrying about the Sox Now if only the Sox would start whooping *ss
  2. Can't say too much about him other then he needs to move up a level. At 25 he's way too old for that level. He is a lefty though and he appears to have good control so I guess there is a chance, but I don't think he would be able to make it with this organization, it would have to be via a trade. There are just so many good left handed relief arms in this system.
  3. Red Sox don't have much prospects what-so-ever other then Freddy Sanchez, an infield prospect. If we could get Trot Nixon for Paul Konerko, I'd call it a done deal. The Sox free up salary room and get a guy that can play any outfield position and adds a lefthanded bat. Then Carlos Lee moves to 1st and we have an outfield of Daubach/Rios, Nixon, and Magglio. Or we could have Lee stay in the outfield with Daubach at first. The lineup would be Jimenez Nixon Frank Magglio Daubach Carlos Lee Jose Crede Catcher If possible I'd love to then swing a deal with Jose Valentin and try to pick up a speedy, talented middle infielder (Preferably a Shortstop). Hell, I love the idea of Nixon for Konerko.
  4. I wouldn't trade Marte for any of them. I'd be willing to give them Flash (even though I really like them) and Konerko for Nick Johnson and the Sox could take on some salary even necessary.
  5. Lol, I've never been a Jose backer and thats well documented. I tried giving him a shot and he still plays like crap. He can't hit a damn curveball and his avg flounders around .250. You can't hit for avg, and your arguably the worse defensive shortstop in the majors (Starting Wise). I don't see a big benefit in playing him. Sometimes people have to forget about their general likes and dislikes of a player and just look at production. Thats what I try to do. Konerko is my favorite player on the Sox, but I'm very much a believer that he should be traded because the Sox overpaid him and well, I fear he could turn into a long term DL type guy and thats not what the Sox need. Find another team looking to up their payroll or add some power while they move into a new park or something along those lines. Heck, the Pirates could use a first baseman right? I doubt we could get Giles with that type of deal but I'm sure they have some good prospects.
  6. Daubach just needs playing time. Watching him lately his swing has been looking real sharp. I want him to become the starter somewhere, the problem is we aren't moving Konerko nor are we moving Thomas or Lee. I really believe this team has to make a few changes to become way more fundementally sound and in turn win it all.
  7. I don't want Jose because a team doesn't win the world series with a crappy defense. I could give a damn about being mediocre, mediocre sucks. Its about time the Sox won the series and they aren't going to do it with players that aren't fundementally sound. I'm not saying Miles is a better option, I personally don't think the Sox have any in house replacements for shortstop (At least not for a couple years) which means they should get a trade together for one. You don't use all your prospects to develop, plenty of times you let another team develop them for you to get more help in the short run. I'd still love to of done that Rollins for Jose and Rauch trade or whatever it was. I doubt we could get Rollins, but a good shortstop would be really nice. One guy I like a bit is Ramon Vazquez and I don't think he would be that tough to get. I really think we could get a package together for Vazquez and Klesko or Kotsay including Lee or Konerko and Jose and maybe a prospect.
  8. I'd rather have Singleton in center and Jimenez and Miles in the infield then having Jose in all honesty. I can't stand piss poor defense and Jose sucks out there. Tell me Jimenez sucks out there, but he will always be a way better defensive player and offensive player then Jose.
  9. How he a winner? Winners do the little things and playing defense is the biggest little thing there is.
  10. I'm with ya 100%.
  11. Never been to the club level in Comiskey, but at Anaheims I've been there about twice when given free tickets and the thing I think is nicest is you have access to the restaurant up there (I'm assuming its the same at Comiskey) and then personally I like sitting up from a bit cause you tend to get a better perspective.
  12. The Sox lost a game because of defense while the Twins won a game because of great defense (Ie, Hunters catch)
  13. I'd take Depodesta as well. He learned under Beane and is very well respected. I still believe in about 15 years or so, I'll be a candidate
  14. Thanks for the update Jim. Its great to see things are picking up in Birmingham and Congrats on your first win of this season. I'm sure it feels great to get that first one of the year.
  15. Chisoxfn replied to IndySoxFan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I've given up on the reason so many can't stand Jimenez. People talk about how pathetic he is in the field, yet he's a million times better out there then Jose.
  16. Walker is very familiar with the players and from what I know Crede and a few of the other players that were just in Charlotte really like him. I think Harris was one of them.
  17. His IP addie was banned. He can still read the stuff, he just can't post.
  18. A Week in Review (May 11-17): Winston Salem Warthogs By Mike Doyle May 19, 2003 SoxNet.net The Barons seemed to have awoken, compiling a very solid 4-2 mark last week led by former reliever, now starter, Tetsu Yofu, and surprise starter Neal Cotts. The Barons could not get the week going on Sunday, as their game against West Tennessee was postponed due to rain. The postponed game was to be made up on Monday as a part of a doubleheader. The Barons played Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde on Monday, playing one game superbly, and the other pitifully. In the first game, Tetsu Yofu made the spot start, and he pitched brilliantly, winning the game 4-2. The 29-year-old only gave up three hits in five innings, one of which was a two-run homerun. Other than mishap, Yofu was nearly flawless, striking out seven and not walking a single Diamond Jaxx batter. Closer Royce Ring struck out the side in the 7th for his eighth save of the year. Catcher Carlos Maldonado delivered the big blow for the Barons, slamming a two run double in the fifth. Before the double, Scott Bikowski drove in a run on his RBI single. Chad Durham went 2-4 in the game, but wasn’t driven in. In the second game, Barons starter Brian West was pounded four seven hits and three earned runs in only two innings of work, losing 7-1. Jim Bullard could not stop the bleeding after relieving Jeff Bajenaru, giving up four earned runs and a homer in his three innings of work. The offensive side of the ball fared no better, scattering a minuscule six hits, scoring only one run. Gabe Alvarez scored the only Barons run, driving in Scott Bikowski, who went 2-3. On Tuesday, it was the battle of the Chicago prospects as Neal Cotts opposed Angel Guzman on the mound. Both pitchers received no decisions, and pitched below average as the Barons won 7-6. Cotts was pulled after only three innings, giving up three earned runs on three hits and four walks. Reliever Clay Eason didn’t fare any better, giving up two earned runs in his three innings pitched. After Eason left, the Barons pen did a 180, throwing shutout ball for six innings. Jeff Bajenaru picked up the win after working the 12th. The offense was alive and kicking Tuesday night, pummeling the Jaxx pitchers for a season high 23 hits. Chad Durham and Scott Bikowski led the way for the Barons getting four hits each. Josh Shaffer, Carlos Maldonado, and Gabe Alvarez had three hits a piece. Alvarez also drove in three runs on the game. The Barons had a much needed day off on Wednesday, probably tired from rounding the bases on their 23 hits the night before. The Barons carried their momentum from Tuesday into their game with Carolina on Thursday, winning 5-2 on a three run 8th inning. Starter Enemencio Pacheco was pulled in the 5th inning for unknown reasons. Pacheco only gave up one earned run in his four innings, walking three and striking out three. SoxNet favorite Jim Bullard picked up the win in relief, only pitching a third of an inning. The win was Bullard’s first of the year for the Hogs. Jeff Bajenaru and Royce Ring pitched scoreless frames to ensure the Barons win. Outfielder Darron Ingram was the power source for the Barons, going 2-4 with a homer and three driven in. Chad Durham did well in the leadoff spot, going 2-4 with two RBIs. Dennis Ulacia was pounded on Friday, giving five runs in an 8-2 Barons loss. Ulacia gave up six hits as well as four walks which led to his five earned runs. Jake Meyer and Clay Eason could not stop the Mudcats offensive barrage, giving up a combined three runs. The Barons offensive reverted back to their dormant state, managing to collect only four hits throughout the entire game. First baseman Ryan Hankins had two hits, the most of any Barons hitter. The man who started off the week so well far the Barons, also closed it on a positive note. Starter Tetsu Yofu picked up his second win in a week, defeating the Carolina Mudcats 8-4. Yofu scattered seven hits in six innings, giving up two earned runs in the process. Jeff Bajenaru gave Wally Backman a scare in the 7th and 8th innings, giving up two earned runs. Luckily for Backman, Jake Meyer and Royce Ring slammed the door, preserving the win for the Barons. Chad Durham finished up his great week going 3-6 with four runs batted in. Utility man Danny Sandoval also had a great night, going 3-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. The Barons hope to duplicate last week’s success this week against the following opponents: Sunday – @Carolina Monday – @Tennessee Tuesday – @Tennessee Wednesday – @Tennessee Thursday – @Tennessee Friday – @Mobile Saturday – @Mobile
  19. A Week in Review (May 11-17): Winston Salem Warthogs By Mike Doyle May 19, 2003 SoxNet.net The Warthogs had an impressive week of play, as Ruddy Yan and Jeremy Reed led the Hogs to a 4-2 mark. Ryan Wing continued his dominance over Carolina League hitters with two solid outings, but only picking up one win. On Sunday the 11th, the Hogs bullpen exploded in extra innings, giving up nine runs in only one inning of work en route to a 10-3 loss. Josh Fields and Brandon O’Neal had trouble getting anyone out, as Salem hitters pounded eight hits off of the relievers. A solid effort was wasted from Ryan Wing, as he went six innings giving up no runs. Ryan Meaux relieved Wing in the 8th, and gave up his first earned run of the season in the 9th. The only Hog with more than one hit was shortstop Mike Morse who had two hits, one of which was a double. Ruddy Yan went 1-4, but stole his league leading 24th base of the year. On Monday, the Hogs had to wait an extra day to kick off their series with Lynchburg, as their game was rained out. A makeup date was scheduled for Wednesday, which made the Hogs series against Lynchburg a six game series. An extra day off seemed to rejuvenate the Hogs, as they easily defeated Lynchburg 5-2 behind a solid performance from Beyong An. An went seven plus innings, only giving up two earned runs while striking out seven Lynchburg batters. Ryan Meaux relieved An in the 8th, and pitched two scoreless frames for his fourth save of the year. On the offensive side of the ball, Jeremy Reed started his unheard of hot-streak, going 2-4 with a run scored and a run batted in. As of Wednesday, Reed’s average stood at an impressive .306, but by the end of the week, Reed’s average would skyrocket to .343. Reed also stole his 14th base of the game, but was not to be outdone by Ruddy Yan, who stole his 26th. Brian Becker and Casey Rogowski also powered the Hogs, going a combined 5-9 with three RBI. The Hogs lost a bit of steam Wednesday, as they lost the first game of a doubleheader against Lynchburg, but rallied for the split later on. In the first game, starter Franklin Francisco pitched brilliantly, going eight innings, giving up only two runs, one earned. Ryan Meaux came on in the 9th to preserve a Hogs win, but an error cost Meaux and the Hogs three runs which lead to a 5-3 loss. Offensively, the Hogs pounded out eight hits, but left seven men stranded on base. Ruddy Yan again made the opposition look foolish going 2-4 with two runs scored. Yan did not steal a base, so his total was stuck at 26 for the time being. Outfielder Daylan Holt went 1-2 with two sacrifice flies to drive in the majority of the Hogs runs. In the second game of the doubleheader, Wyatt Allen limited his walks and the Hogs won the game 4-1. Allen pitched six strong innings, walking four and giving up two hits, but struck out five batters. Reliever Rolando Garza pitched the 7th for his first win of the season. Once again, Jeremy Reed and Ruddy Yan were the sparkplugs for the Hogs ‘O’. Yan and Reed combined to go 5-8 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Reed stole two bases, his 15th and 16th of the seaon, while Yan stole his 27th. On Thursday, the Hogs game against Lynchburg was postponed due to rain. A makeup date hasn’t been announced at this time. Ryan Wing received the short end of the stick on Monday, picking up a no decision, but on Friday he picked up his fourth win of the season, defeating Kinston 8-1. Wing pitched five solid innings, giving up an earned run on three hits and three walks. Wing struck out four, and watched his ERA dwindle to 1.72. The Hogs got a lift from some former Hogs, as Mitch Wylie and Jason Stumm returned from extended spring training. Wylie pitched three innings giving up two hits while striking out three, while Stumm pitched a scoreless 9th. Not to be outdone, the Hogs slammed 14 hits on the night, most of them coming from the top of the order. The top of the order which consisted of Ruddy Yan, Mike Spidale, Jeremy Reed and Brian Becker, had nine hits, five RBIs, and six runs combined. Third baseman Tommy Nicholson also contributed to the barrage, going 4-4. On Saturday, the Hogs only needed five innings to defeat Kinston 3-1, as the game was called due to rain. Starter Kris Honel went the distance, which was five innings, giving up only one earned run. Honel didn’t have the control he usually has, giving up four walks and three hits. Honel did bounce back though, striking out five Kinston batters. Jeremy Reed could not be stopped at the plate, or on the base paths, going 2-2 with three stolen bases. Reed currently has 19 stolen bases on the year. The Hogs had a great week, especially Jeremy Reed, but they hope to continue their success this week. Here is the Hogs upcoming schedule for this week: Sunday – vs. Kinston Monday – vs. Kinston Tuesday – Day off Wednesday – @ Frederick Thursday – @ Frederick Friday – @ Frederick Saturday – @ Kinston
  20. Williams is the general manager. There were rumors of him resigning, but nothing has ever been made official and I don't see it happening myself at least not yet. Now I could see him and Manuel getting fired very quickly, but from what I heard on the radio, people are leery about that happening cause the Sox are too cheap to pay the money.
  21. Yesterday Cerb turned 18, today Big Hurt turns 18. Happy birthday man
  22. Cade was my favorite college qb ever. I still don't know what happened to him, he was completely different on the Bears. I too got his autograph, too bad its worthless considering its on a Bears jersey with Mcnown on the back. If only it was on a UCLA jersey.
  23. Hell, I don't give a damn what his nickname is as long as he's hitting.
  24. -Lee belts one to the track in dead center -Graffy strikes out and looked ugly. He swung at one high and outside and then whiffed at a pitch in the dirt -Konerko flew out to the first baseman The Sox spoil and excellenty pitched game by Jon Garland. This is the reason I'm still very high on Garland. I also know that great pitching beats great hitting the majority of the time. The key is, once the Sox develop this great pitching they need to keep it, and have great defensive players around them. Jose Valentin doesn't cut it out there defensively. They need to minimize the errors and get guys that can make plays. Crede stays, Jimenez is avg, Konerko is avg, Maggs is good, Lee is avg, and in center we need help while behind the plate we got a special kid. Defense is better then before, but some more minor changes are still out there.
  25. Too bad the Sox have given up two unearned runs while Hunter saved two runs. These are the type of games the Sox must learn how to win. That was a nice play by Crede to end the inning.
