I think the Bears will draft Watson #3. Greg Gabriel had a tweet the other day indicating that Trubisky was not on the Bears draft board or at least not high and had the same statement about Jonathan Allen.

David Robertson
QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 24, 2017 -> 09:01 AM) I am not sure I would even seriously consider the Nats after what happened publicly on the last trade. I really think they would be gun shy with giving up the talent that Hahn will ask for considering the Eaton trade. Whether that turns out to be a heavily favored trade for the Sox or not has yet to be seen but I still think it hinders the Nats on going all out for Robertson. Whether it was a good trade for them or not they looked really unsure of themselves after it went down which gave the feel like they realized they made a huge mistake. It may have been far from the truth but that sure as hell what it looked like. They dont anything like that to happen again. Eaton is crushing it right now. I think the Nats are quite happy they made the deal they did make. Prospect evaluators loved the deal for the Sox, but that is because everyone viewed Gio as being this can't miss prospect...reality is there is a lot of work/risk related to Gio and that in and of itself lowers the deal. Eaton is proving last season wasn't a fluke and he has been extremely valuable for the Nats. OPS is above where it was last year, OBP right around .400 (and this is coming off a bit of a slump). Signed for a long time at a bargain rate. They do need to get him back to a corner outfield spot where his defense goes back to being a major plus...but that will likely happen next year.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Apr 23, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) Add MCW to the list. You can tell Wade and Butler hate playing with him. I still find it hard to believe that Valentine isn't a better option. At least he can hit some threes. He'll spread the floor for others. MCW is awful. He can play D (at times), but he is so worthless offensively, in fact, he's worse then that because he has no idea how to pass and takes awful shot after awful shot (and he can't shoot to begin with). I've said for a long time..I'd love to see this team with a really good point guard (or even a good PG). Our PG's (outside of Rondo) are absolutely brutal...like worse in the league (and they make Rondo look much better then he is at this age).

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 09:57 AM) I don't necessarily believe this, as Wade said, Rondo knows everyones playbook. I think he is super focused in playoffs and is being more assertive in demanding everyone know what's up. And that's just easier to do in playoffs. Not directly related to this...but I view the Thibs era Bulls as a team that played close to a playoff level at most times (in terms of intensity, etc). This team clearly didn't do that most of the season (but for big games...you'd see them step up). So when you got to the playoffs...those Thibbs Bulls teams didn't have another gear, where this team likely has another gear that could pushes them up a bit. I kind of view Boston like some of those Thibs Bulls teams (the ones where Drose was hurt/shell of himself). I hope the Bulls keep it up because the East is totally wide open. If there was ever a year for an 8 seed to make the championships..this is the year (cause the East really has no great team). We can also lose the next 4...we are that streaky and while Portis and Zipser have stepped up...we've had pretty long stretches where almost no one could help Buckets.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 09:56 AM) Are the Celtics the worst #1 seed in NBA history? The Bulls are obviously not the worst #8 seed, but they are an average NBA team. I look at the Celtics, and besides IT, I'm wondering how they win over 50 games. For all the praise Ainge gets, he may have pulled a Pax with Butler. They have no shot at winning a title currently. The draft picks are going to have to hit big. I still think Boston is 50/50 at winning this series, but yes, they are the worst #1 seed I've seen. This is also one of the weakest tops of the conference I can remember. I still have Wiz's going ot finals.

Since I've ripped Hoiberg a ton on this board, I want to point out a couple things as it relates to our young players. I also I suppose can give Gar / Pax some credit because their trade of Taj opened up a bit more minutes for young kids (I won't talk about Payne who looked awful), one of which was Portis. If you look at his first two years and his development trend...it is a pretty positive one (especially when you consider his age). 2016: 13.8 PER, .469 TS% 2017: 14.9 PER, .545 TS%

Petricka & Rodon and 12 Man Pitching Staff
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 11:49 PM) Covey goes down when Rodon comes back. Petricka to Charlotte for rehab? As for Burdi and Beck, they can stay in Charlotte since there is no rush to bring them up. My personal opinion is that Covey is a big leaguer and a more valuable piece then holland. I would be disappointing if they gave up on Covey. He has a nice arm and potential upside.

Remember...this is still the Bulls team that is streaky...that said, I like this matchup against Boston. Even if Bulls go up 3-0, I expect this team to find a way to blow it...but damn it, I'm just going to keep on enjoying the ride!!! LETS GO BULLS!!!

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 06:57 PM) I support it. Portis looked like crap in his minutes. 3 fouls including a tech. Niko was/is hitting shots and rebounding Yep - Play the hot hand. They looked good last night. Wade even showed up for the 4th quarter...although I don't think he actually played that great in the 4th...he at least hit his shots. Boston is due for a big game where they nail the 3 ball. Bulls are due for a stinker...that said...don't stop now boys!!! Keep on kicking butt!!! Rondo, Rolo, Buckets, Zipser, Niko...huge.

2017 NFL off season thread
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 11:15 AM) So do I. Too much smoke. Leming has thought so all along. Greg Gabriel, Moon Mullin, and Jim Miller all have them taking DeShaun Watson at #3. I actually think I will be upset if we don't. My view is, this organization has always kind of ignored/not invested in QB. I think we should keep taking QB until we hit on it. We need to also build an infastructure to put that QB in as good of a position to succeed & excel as well. I am pretty much okay taking any of the top QB's (Watson / Kizer / Trubisky / Mahomes). In no particular order. Watson is a great athlete who is supposedly very intelligent and clearly plays great ball with pressure on. Physical limitations from an accuracy perspective, but off the charts intangibles. Kizer is most complete, but I probably like him the least, because of the fact that he really didn't win enough, nor did he produce enough for a big time program. Mahomes is raw, but talented as heck. Far more risk, but I like the overall tools and could see him being one of those spread guys who succeeds (not a day one starter...but I don't believe in such thing anyway...you draft a young QB, you pretty much should expect that we'll suck/struggle for a few years while they take their lumps, imo). Trubisky is pretty good..smaller sample size, but hard to argue the tools. Personally, I think they will either take a QB @ 3 or trade down and take one slightly later in the draft. The lottery of taking a QB early (to ensure you get your guy) just seems worth it (cause we aren't going to be a perennial winner without at least a good QB and to get that guy...we need to invest in the position). I actually think part of the Glennon signing was to create a better "smoke screen" around the QB position (along with the fact that he can be used as a "bridge" who has some upside (and also provides some protection in the case that no QB you like is available in the 1st), so that teams wouldn't feel they had to trade up ahead of the Bears. It will be interesting to see what happens these last few days leading up to the draft and who, if anyone ends up trading up.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 09:40 PM) Wanna know how you win playoff series? You have miracle saves, Fluke goals and get to check the goalie and score. Jesus. This isnt our year. They played terrible. Toews was non-existent this whole series (in fact, he looked like one of the worse players on the ice). Definitely a flukey bounce and a debatable interferene that drove two goals, but they were the aggressor and have totally outplayed the Hawks. Hawks could have won Game 3, but when you get dominanted the first two games and have a relatively even game 3, you are asking to be in trouble.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 01:39 PM) I know he's going to get in. In Rowand standards he isn't a HoFer and like I said, I'm a big fan of the guy. We agree...I view HOF as reserved for elite players and Bosh wasn't that, imo.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 12:51 PM) I love(d) Chris Bosh as a player but never crossed my mind that he's a a Hall of Famer. That said, I have much higher standards for the HoF than most it seems cause I feel that way about a lot of people that get brought up in the discussion. By NBA HOF standards, Chris Bosh is a HOFer. Baseball HOF...probably not, cause he was never truly "elite". Different standards in the NBA though, imo.

2016-2017 NBA Thread
QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 12:28 PM) That's fair. I do not feel invested, like, at all. The last offseason just completely detached me from the bulls, who were very likely my most followed team which is now clear and away the white sox. But I will say, they became more likeable in the last 15 or so games of the season when Hoiberg put Rondo back in charge and Niko and they benched the force feeding of morrow/payne/etc. I will say that Rose trade was pretty good in retrospect. The money not saved which I was pissed at was negligible and would not matter, and Grant and Rolo are two NBA players, which is possibly more than you can say about Rose now. I agree with most of your sentiments...that said, I very much enjoy watching Butler play. When I watch him, I think about how much he's grown, etc...and how he keeps getting better. I wish we could surround him with some worthwhile pieces. Hopefully they can figure something out...the thing that irritated me more then anything was the fact that we don't have any real pieces to cheer for who have a long-term future with this club. What is funny is...if this team had missed the playoffs for like 5 straight years...everyone would have been fired up...in some cases...how pschyed/dissapointed you get about a club partly depends on the previous successes and after a good run where the arch seemed to be pointed up, at least if you wore "Rose" colored glasses...you could have seen paths to the championship and now we are this team whose only path is to rebuild (which could make things worse...who knows...but it does give a clean start) or you build via FA / trade (around Jimmy B) and that may make you nothing more then a 4-6 seed..who knows.
