QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2016 -> 06:57 PM) I just said on facebook that it was like talking s*** to Michael Jordan in his prime. All you are going to do is piss him off. The production value NBC added to the whole thing was awesome too (the other day with the staredown, etc). Just awesome stuff. Phelp's is a beast. I hope he finishes out these olympics strong, but man, Ladecky is something else too. So is that Hungarian female swimmer from USC (total beastmode dominator). Loved the US girl taking out the roided Russian two nights ago too And women's gymnastics team, holy hell are they good. I can't think of a time where I ever saw a team make everything look so easy and dominant. It literally looked like they had the staples "easy" button. Then you see other teams go and realize oh, it isn't so easy.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 9, 2016 -> 06:11 PM) Serena lost? Damn, not a good tourney for them. At least the swimming is live (sorry Gage). I'm impressed by quick the turnaround is on these races, it seems like less than 10 minutes between races I'm on the west coast so none of it is live (I don't think). Either way, I don't watch these sports for the pure liveness of them, I watch for the embedded drama, the camera angles, etc. If it was just flipping back and forth to all the "live" sports, I don't get the embedded feed of Phelps staring down his competitor two nights ago, etc. That stuff is awesome and through the production value, they ensure the maximized drama and excitement in sports that I would otherwise not care about (and I love the olympics). We don't watch a lot of TV in our house, but these two weeks, my wife and I have it on everyone night and it is great that it basically starts when the kids are done with bath and kind of ready to go down for the night.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 03:26 PM) I just wish the Hillary fans and this board is full of them would admit Hillary has been given this election thanks to the FBI director and media. That's all I wish. It also would help if you admitted she is a horrible choice for President, albeit a better choice than Trump. Greg - Why not ask the question the other way. Do these hillary fans really think she has the makeup to be the president (not compared to trump, just in general). I'm willing to admit Trump doesn't, but I also think it is sickening that Hillary is the best that the dems could put out (as she has real issues which, while we could debate whether they are criminal or not, they are certainly indicative of extremely extremely poor judgement). That said, while Bernie was a likeable character, I don't know that he was the better candidate. Was this more of the DNC / party as a whole just viewed it as her time or were their not other candidates who should have came out to compete against her?

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 06:00 PM) That's the plan. Finished Band of Brothers yesterday and it definitely met the hype. Absolutely loved the two episodes in Bastogne, some of the best TV ever made IMO. Can't wait for The Pacific next. Just talking about Bastogne makes me want to put in the ole DVD's and watch again (if I can even find them).

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 09:48 AM) I think they can do both. Show the event live either streaming online or on a cable channel like Bravo, but then you can still include it as part of your main primetime broadcast. For the Olympics, the majority of viewers are like you. They would still watch it on tape delay, they watch it for the drama and excitement. It's completely different than a NFL or NBA game. Either way, I don't see how you can blame news outlets for reporting on the news live as it happens. Yahoo or ESPN stand nothing to gain by adjusting their broadcast to NBC's schedule. Note: It is only drama and excitement if I don't know what happens. You get rid of that when you report live.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 09:19 AM) I don't know, I just wish it was consistent (maybe set by IoC)? I tried to find the score to the USA mens basketball game while it was happening on saturday and was unable to find it anywhere that I'd expect (ESPN, CBS sports, etc). It was crazy Game was on live on TV (or at least I thought it was one live) on one of those special olympic feeds. I watched a bit of the spain game to see Niko and Pau (only watched 1st half).

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 09:21 AM) I blame NBC, not the news sources. It's 2016, enough with this tape delay stuff. Show it live somewhere. Screw that. I want to watch it in primetime and I don't blame them. They paid massive amounts of money for this and as such want to maximize ratings. I don't have an issue if some other channel or online you could stream live, but I don't think their primary platform (i.e., NBC over the air) should just air stuff live and say screw the tape delay.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 08:22 AM) Katie Ladecky is the truth. That performance last night was just insane. Hopefully she can have a few more of those type of performances (same with Phelp's...I hope he can end his career in style with a ton of new golds to add to his fort knox stash of existing golds). PS: Count me as one of those people who hates the fact that yahoo and other news sources don't spoiler what happened in the games. I'm on freaking tape delay so let me watch as if it were live darn it. I can stay off twitter, but harder when I turn to ESPN for a bit during a commercial and get whacked with a result. Pisses me off cause I freaking love my every 2 year olympic watching (and every 4 year summer olympic fix). The drama and quickness to this stuff, when this is what these people train for once every 4 years is great (can't watch this stuff other then when it is for the ultimate price with the ultimate stakes).

How much hope should we have for Anderson?
Chisoxfn replied to TheFutureIsNear's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 10:34 AM) I think the bolded is a myth. The issue isn't that these guys themselves come up and struggle a bit. The issue is that these guys are placed in a position where a team designed to be competitive needs them to succeed in order to actually be competitive. This creates an atmosphere where the organization, the team, the player and the fans are placing so much reliance on the prospect to immediately contribute that it sort of ruins the entire mood for everyone. If we were to rebuild, I think there would be an acceptance for struggles and growing pains because of reduced expectations that simply doesn't exist when you are trying to compete year in and year out. I agree with what you outlined here, but people are bashing Anderson and we clearly aren't competing this year (at least not anymore). Similar with Fulmer. The rest of this year we should maximize guys who we think have longer term future and allow them to develop (and that includes Saladino who should really get a lot more at bats). -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 09:11 AM) He's probably a 7-9 hitter on a really good team. Posts similar to this one and others about Rodon and Fulmer though continue to tell me that this fan base isn't ready for a rebuild. People think that everyone is Chris Sale. This place will be rough during a rebuild I agree. People need to understand, very rarely do guys just come up and rake or be a total stud. It takes time to develop pieces and we as fans need to understand that and the organization certainly needs to understand it. Thus far, this organization, with some exceptions (see Avi / Beckham) has not been known for their patience with young position players. -

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 08:59 AM) The team's #1 hitting prospect and got off to a hot start to cause excitement...but now the warts are really starting to show. I'm sure I'll get some backlash from posters about how young he is and its too early, but there is obviously a really serious issue in his batting approach that isn't just going to go away. I mean, we are talking about a guy who had a sub 5% walk rate in nearly 700 AB's across AA and AAA. So this isn't him adjusting to major league pitching, this is how he plays the game of baseball. Now, thankfully he's a SS who possess an elite speed tool so he doesn't have to be a .300 hitter to be useful, but I'm curious to see where expectations are at this point after getting a look at him. Personally I see him as our everyday SS down the line, but not a reliable top of the order bat like Robin is trying to make him into now. I'll say something like .250/.290/.400 with 30 steals and an above average defender at short....good player to have on the team, but as literally our only hitting prospect (before the '16 draft) worth anything I think it's a key reminder of how sad of shape we really are in Please note just one thing. We all knew he was raw and it was going to be an aggressive call up and we know he has a lot to learn. It takes time for guys to develop and become major league players and there is a level of patience required. The organization better be patient and allow Anderson to grow. He has a lot of tools and he should be part of this future. Does he have warts, certainly, but he also has a ton of tools and skill. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 05:34 AM) Oh no, you are about to experience the Band of Brother addiction for the first time. Its easily one of my favorite shows of all time and from now on when its on TV you WILL watch it. Yes. It is absolutely epic. Every few years I have to bust out the DVD and just start going through them all again. Such an amazing amazing series.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 05:57 PM) This year, different story. It is nice he was great a few years ago, but teams won't pay for that now. And he is owed a lot more than the Sox owe Avi. He is so great he is in AAA. Since coming off the DL, back in June, he's put up a > .300 average and a damn good OPS. I'm not going to write-off two years of success and all the tools. Oh and he can actually play some D whereas Avi is one of the worst defensive outfielders in the majors.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 06:53 AM) White is as advertised. Cody Whitehair is probably the starter at LG. Young and Houston both appear to be in great shape and dominated 1 on 1 drills. Floyd is super skinny and I wasn't a fan of the pick but unlike McClellin he does flash crazy athleticism and explosiveness. Everyone talks about the offense being worse and I don't see it. Gase was overrated and not much will change there. Their best plays last year were when their best player (Cutler) made great plays outside of the actual offense. Everyone looks at the losses of Forte and Bennett. Their OL is better and WR are much better. Miller will have a huge year barring health. Bears should be solid. Grasu has apparently looked really really good too. Would be nice if some of these young olinemen pan out and can gel with Long. Would be nice to have a younger line, where you should see some continuity and consistency over the years.

Westbrook signs 3 year extension. I'm happy for the Thunder. Presume they will make a major push for Griffin next offseason (if not sooner).

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 02:40 PM) I'm not sure the sub forum is completely necessary but definitely feel free to make your own threads for the different sports, I'm sure you'll get some chatter. And if the threads pick up, we'd be happy to turn it into a sub-forum.

Never seen anything like these first year players going down. Feel terrible for the kid and I was excited for him. I think people were sleeping on the possibility that he actually became a useful, cost controlled piece for this club.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 08:46 PM) Truthfully he probably doesn't care if he wins. If he loses, he can shrug it off and just say it was rigged. If he wins, quite frankly the job has got to be a major hassle. It doesn't even pay that well, compared to what he's used to. His ego is safe either way cause again, he can just say our system is rigged and it was fixed for Hillary and he goes on more famous than ever. He has the perfect out: the system is rigged. This is probably 100% true.

QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 04:05 PM) Is he worth paying $8M in 2017 and $9M in 2018? A bit of a gamble. Not sure I'd even put in a claim. I would. Guy has came back from injury and has been raking since June 21st. I still say the talent is absolutely worth the risk.

Dodgers notified him he would be either demoted or traded and he left clubhouse. Their hand has been forced and the Sox aren't in the worst spot from a waiver claim perspective (albeit, they aren't in the best spot either). Dodgers clearly want to get rid of him.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 02:37 PM) There's one thing that I want from this season, the firing of Robin Ventura. Too much bad fundamental baseball and in game managing decisions over the past 4 years. Not happening. They simply won't renew his contract.

QUOTE (Tony @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 01:20 PM) I agree with basically all of this. I was very intrigued to see what you could get back for the big guys, but always maintined the belief of the off-season plan, having more options open. I get that. But no moves now, just getting smaller farm pieces back for spare parts. Why not? Is it because you are somehow still trying to compete? Do you think you are going "All-In" for 2017? What the hell is the plan? Why I am even trying to use logic when it comes to this front office? So many questions, so little answers. We said it this past off-season too, where we never really put us in a real position to contend. We half ass things and there is no point in even trying to understand. Sad thing is, only real rationalization is they legitimately think they are wrong and this team is so much better, but man, how often are they "wrong" when they think this team can contend. It has proven it can't (unless Robin is really as awful as everyone on Soxtalk thinks).
