Manny Acta offered coaching job; Takes Job with M's
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 09:54 AM) http://espn.go.com/blog/mlb/post/_/id/9990...r-venturas-sake seems to me he believed that to be the case Touche. I hadn't seen those quotes. I truly respect Sandy and do think he'd be on the Sox list if they do go another direction. All this said, I hope Robin and the Sox kick butt next year.

White Sox decline option on Alexei Ramirez
Ladies & Gents - This was a pretty foregone conclusion. The option was > then his perceived market value. This does not mean the Sox aren't going to try and resign Alexei to a 1yr deal less then the option (or a 2 year deal even). If I were betting, I'd say odds are greater than Ramirez is a Sox next year vs. playing somewhere else.

Manny Acta offered coaching job; Takes Job with M's
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 09:40 AM) Dude, Sandy Alomar believed that and that is why he turned down the job. Dont act like this is a forum making s*** up We don't know whether Alomar believed that or not. In fact, it almost sounded like Alomar didn't want to come here because he didn't want it to be implied he was in that position. I agree with everything you said Elrockin.

Manny Acta offered coaching job; Takes Job with M's
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 09:07 AM) If he interviewed, you would have to think he has at least some interest. I just wonder what the Robin haters will say if he does eventually get Robin's job: 73-89 59-102 26-61 69-93 80-82 65-91 I'm not saying I'd want him as my manager, but I do think he would make an excellent bench coach. Tons of experience and generally thought of as a very good baseball man. However, if he ended up with the interim job and the team took off, well, then the argument to hire him full time becomes more compelling.

He'd be a good hire. Not sure if he'd be interested, but I think, given his experience, he would potentially have less concern with the lame duck situation with Robin as he ultimately wants to manage and knows he could get another bench job next year if robin goes another direction (and on the upside, he might have a shot at this job if he did well on an interim basis). However, I stand by my guns that if he asks for a guarantee or asks if he would get the job after Robin, that you don't hire him. If you are going to do that, just fire Robin already.

After the game, Noah said this, which made me think he wasn't upset with Portis, but maybe he wasn't aware of what happened? I also haven't read anything anywhere on this, where are you getting this?

Crazy that a 1 loss Bama team ranks over some undefeated power conference teams. I do think Bama is playing like one of the best 4 teams in the country, so in many cases, I actually think they got it right, but hard to do that when you have a field of 4. If the field was 8, I have an easier time giving it to the better team with a loss vs. a power conference team without a loss.

Well in the case of Vernon Davis...it really is just helping them in the playoffs...nothing more, nothing less. I understand if you are making a trade to get into the the playoffs but that isn't in question for the Broncos.

In terms of Cutler and his cost to the Bears, I thought the below is interesting (in terms of where Jay would stand). Cutler 2016 salary cap hit currently places him at #16th overall Cutler 2017 salary cap hit currently places him at #20th overall Cutler 2018 salary cap hit currently places him at #16th overall. These numbers assume that no other QB is signed to a big contract in the next 3 years.

Four file for Free Agency
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 3, 2015 -> 11:05 AM) I'm not by any means arguing for keeping Beckham, but if you let Saladino start the season as a bench player with the Sox instead of as a starter at Charlotte, then the organization is admitting that they don't think Saladino will ever be more than a bench player. Now that may very well be true, but if the Sox think Saladino has the potential to be a major league starter, then he needs to be playing every day in Charlotte and someone like Beckham, who is known to be nothing more than a bench player, can fill that role on the Sox. I kind of think the organization has a pretty good idea Saladino isn't anything more then a bench / utility guy. They were in a rock and a hard place last year and gave it a whirl. I like him off the bench and I like Sanchez off the bench. I still don't think either of them would be above average starters or even average starters. If I were going to pick one to be more average, it would be Sanchez but even then that is a struggle.

Nationals screw over Bud Black, hire Dusty Baker
QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 3, 2015 -> 08:10 AM) Thanks for this, makes more sense. In terms of baseball, had no idea bud black was well thought of after the padres run. Black is extremely well respected and a very good baseball man. Excellent pitching coach and even today lots of people in the Padres org say nothing but good things about him. He's a good coach who excelled with the Angels and really failed because no matter how good a manager you are, you need to have good players and to be frank, the Pads were a horribly constructed team. I've long said he'd be on my short list of candidates if the Sox made the move away from Robin.

Nationals screw over Bud Black, hire Dusty Baker
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 3, 2015 -> 05:35 AM) They interviewed Black twice. Offered him the job and he accepted...until they went to the negotiation table. Nationals offer to him was 1 year, 1.6 million. He obviously said no. Now the National are stuck with Dusty Baker to pay for their sins. Baker is probably one of the most underappreciated managers. Guy took the Giants to the series, then did amazing for the Cubs (Prior and Wood's arms would have blown up with any manager....not just Dusty)...then goes to the Reds and they win. Oh and with the exception of the Giants (who are a great organization), the Cubs and Reds went into the crapper after Baker left. Baker will do a great job for the Nats.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 08:14 PM) Aaron Lemming has been tweeting that teams are trying to get Willie Young. Giants are the team to watch for. I'm glad. I like Young and he needs to go somewhere he can play in a 4-3. He isn't a fit in the 3-4 and he's tried but if we can get another late round pick for him, awesome.

QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 07:32 PM) Rumors? http://sportsmockery.com/2015/11/rumor-jet...und-jay-cutler/ I've always said those two teams were crazy for not offering for Jay. They are awful and have nothing at QB (especially the Texans). If those teams had QB's, they'd be extremely relevant, especially the Jets (texans not as much since their defense evidently sucks too...but maybe its cause they know its a lost cause with their QB play). That said, I don't think either of them will offer a first and I'm not moving Jay for anything less then that (and even then I'd have to think about it). Jay has played well and I don't want to go into irrelevant mode with no QB. This team can win with Jay, it can't win with total crap and in this draft, we don't know what we are going to find. I'd rather keep Jay and draft a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round (see how they are) and continue to evaluate the position. Of course if Pace things one of these guys is in the draft is the guy, then I support that. We all know I like Cook a lot.

Good move by Niners. They drastically need an upgrade at TE and they can deal with the pains of getting an offensive player up to speed in a new system during the course of the season (as they can afford some negative plays given they are pretty much playoff locks).

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 01:59 PM) What do you guys think of Homeland this season? Haven't seen last night's episode but the episode before was pretty cool (agree with DA's assessment that it was one of the best of the series). Definitely caught me off guard and curious where they went last night. Will probably watch tonight.

No idea what happens the rest of the season, but if Jay looks this calm in the offense, zero reason to cut him. I still think if Cook is their in the 2nd (or someone else) whom you really like, you draft and groom and we can't ignore the QB position (it isn't like Jay is 26) but thus far, Gase and Cutler look to be doing some good things and Jay is becoming far less a problem. Is he elite, no, but you can absolutely win and go deep if you had a good team around him (the way he's played thus far...especially given the struggles / injuries to his receivers and line). But he's got to do this for a while longer to just completely ignore QB.

Really...that quick you can sign with new teams? I always remembered a period where you had exclusive rights. Clearly I am remembering wrong. Off-season is going to get started quickly here.

Really, you could have just put it one episode earlier and it would have still served its purpose but then you don't get the same pace from the back to back episdoes of both halves of Alexandria. So either you stick it in the middle (right after the episode where Morgan doesn't kill) or you do it now. I think their are pro's and con's to either but I kind of liked how they paced the episodes to start and then went to this one. I felt having the Morgan episode in between would have taken away from the beginning of the action and then I presume the next arch will be related to what happened 2 episodes ago. Either way, I still have loved this season.

QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 10:47 AM) Yeah that couldve been the case. Willing to throw away the first half of offense though? After the third time they did it it was like cmon now guys. Yeah - They were clearly nervous against an above average d (with a megshift oline) and the game plan was to make sure they were still relevant in the 2nd half and then ideally turn it on. The gameplan worked, we just had our own issues where we didn't execute. That said, personell aren't their either.

2015-2016 NFL Thread
QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 10:34 AM) The only thing I could attribute the start to was that they felt they needed to show those plays to spread things out and get the Vikings leaning forward enough to break it open later. If they started with going down the field it might have opened the Bears up to some salivating db's because of the pressure the DLine would have created. And in theory we should have won the game. Missed field goal, stupid punt return, and then the drop by Langford. That said, I still have no idea what we were doing being so conserved but it had to be a factor of the line. We utterly dominated Vikings in 2nd half and got very little to show for it. Our special teams is just brutal. It was the one coach we hired where I was dissapointed (as Rodgers didn't have a great track record). That said, personnel is also an issue.

Concealed weapons in college classrooms
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 1, 2015 -> 07:09 PM) I really am starting to wonder how many adults there are when 50% of the GOP is currently supporting candidates with basically no platform except "sticking it to the man" and not being politically correct but saying whatever first comes into one's mind without any filter or forethought. Of course, in this case, it's even more ironic because the man isn't "liberal Democrats" or hedge fund managers but the majority of the middle class who will suffer as a result from misguided policies. Do we really want someone like Trump or Carson or even Fiorina with the nuclear codes? And a staunch republican would counter that by saying, how many adults their are when people are basically voting for a full blown socialist and a semi socialist. Pendulum works both ways. That said, I have no idea what your post has to do with this thread.

Given how much I enjoy Morgan (partially because I thought his character on Jericho was also badass), I thought it was great to finally get to see an episode dedicated to him. Chilling ending with those comments.

We won't get outrebounded if our bench bigs were the starters, but Pau is a lousy fundamental rebounder. Niko is still developing (I do have hope for him being a pretty good rebounder). It is also 4 games...so we have to consider the sample size.
