  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 03:44 PM) The thing is, the ump immediately throws his hands up and signals dead ball. You can't do that and then say play on, that's not fair to the defenders Holy defensive meltdown batman That was my issue...the ump called time. Horrible that he did but defense never had a fair shot.
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 03:42 PM) The two errors by Andrus are just unacceptable, especially for a good defensive player like him. The 2nd play was not an error on Andrus, it was an error on the 1B.
  3. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 03:35 PM) That ump had the biggest wad of chew in his mouth I've ever seen. Yeah...that was absurd.
  4. Did it actually hit the bat? I didn't think it did but I also didn't understand how the run could score since the ump called time. I'm not saying the 3B could have made the play but he clearly stopped going for the ball as soon as the ump threw his hands up.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 02:52 PM) yeah, my father retired as an attorney a few years back. He did quite well, but he was clear with me in my high school / college years that he wouldn't recommend the field, and it only got worse later. He would tell me in the last decade or two that it was nearly impossible to make partner anywhere anymore, and even just getting a job in private law was very tough. Which is odd when you think of how litigious society has become, but apparently (as you said) there was just a huge wave of law school grads added to the system. A lot of lawyers find corner market jobs now. Like FBI, or contract work with firms that specialize in surge needs. A critical component is where you went to school. I have a lot of friends who went into law and a lot who struggled, typically those that struggled went to the lower end schools (I'll call them the online schools even though they aren't but they are in my eyes the equivalent of an online school). Those that graduated with good grades from the bigger schools, did what you'd expect (i.e., got good jobs at mid to large firms, eventually went private sector and make good money), those that didn't, if they got really good grades, they did alright, if you didn't get really good grades / have the right personality, holy s*** you are screwed. The cost is the same for the turd school vs the elite school and you end up getting a job for 35-40K (if you are lucky...and that is after a few years of trying) and while that is fine and dandy if you got an undergrad at a state school and are just starting out, but when you had a cost of $150K+ (plus any undergrad debt), you really are digging an early hole for yourself (when trying to do more). The chief flaw is in those schools who reaped major economic benefits and robbed people blindly. In fact, a lot of those law schools are now getting sued by former students for the false claims / pretense that were made. They totally fed off of people who were looking to take a step forward and often times were first generation lawyers and didn't have the perspective of what the industry was really like and how difficult it would be (in the current environment) to make it from the smaller schools. My rule of thumb...undergrad, save the money and get good grades at a state school...major in a skill (something others can't do or isn't easily thought...ie, something that differentiates you from other candidates without that specialty...so major in accounting of finance vs. management or some form of engineering) and then if you are going to spend your money, spend it when you get a masters but only do so if you are going to a top program (or your company is paying and you get an immediate benefit).
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 02:21 PM) Interesting post. I have no knowledge so I can't comment. Your comment intrigues me. Are young people really majoring in art and Poly Sci? I mean cmon. Badger might tell us ... are there tons of jobs for young lawyers? What about nurses and doctors? Anybody know? What about architecture and engineering and geology? The article I read said 22-29 year old grads couldn't find work and the over 50s, forgetaboutit. Companies want to keep salaries down, hence are undervaluing the 30-49 crowd. Their are massive amounts of jobs and a major need for nursing so I can comment on that. Similarly, I think their are major needs for doctors. That said, just cause you want to be a DR, doesn't mean you can be, most people aren't smart enough and even if you are, their are plenty who are smart enough but don't want to be doctors (and instead want to be engineers or lawyers or whatever else). Similarly I think their are still a lot of lucrative jobs in the areas of IT security / programming and I would think IT security is just going to continue to get more lucrative (data / network security is critical to prevent the negative PR blunders that come with data breaches, let alone the actual impacts from data breaches or hackers shutting down networks).
  7. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 02:01 PM) The big reason for this is that they are not finding the jobs that they WANT. There are plenty of jobs out there. The problem is that when kids are in high school everybody says you need to go to college. How many jobs do these young people think are out there for somebody with a political science degree or an art degree? If you graduate college in a strong field the jobs are there. It's not just the field, it is doing more then graduating...you need to graduate with strong grades and be involved.
  8. QUOTE (shipps @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 11:20 AM) I would rather have Kershaw full steam ahead for 2 starts in the series than have him tired and laboring for three games. Not to mention your goal is to win the series. How the hell are you going to do that when your pitchers have been ran into the ground just to get their. If I'm the Dodgers, I'm starting Kershaw and Greinke in 2 & 3 and 6 & 7 on normal rest (and extended rest in case of Greinke). Maybe I throw one of them as a reliever in between (on the day they were set to throw). I'm not pushing them to get out their in game 1. Either way, first you got to win game 5. Greinke vs. DeGrom should be a good matchup.
  9. Gents - I updated my post accordingly. I don't have access to twitter so go off what others say so corrected since it was Dickerson and Clayton and it sounded more like it was Clayton just saying "I've heard those reports vs. necessarily confirming them as true").
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 08:39 AM) Leming never said that there was. John Clayton said it apparently. Ian Rapoport says it's totally false and he wants to be on the field with his teammates. It makes no sense for Jeffrey to hold out...he's looking for a payday. Him not playing doens't help with that at all.
  11. Dickerson, Clayton and a few others have reported that their is beef with Jeffrey and the Bears. However, some other reporters have came out and said that is absolutely not true...specifically Lemming/LaFofo(however the hell you spell it) indicated that those reports were false.
  12. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 06:12 PM) Yeah, sort of hard not to feel for the guy. Obviously that show is very "produced", but from what I saw he seemed like a fairly good dude and was doing his thing. We've probably all seen people not only deal with addiction, but also go to a bad place when they split from their significant other, and clearly he is not doing well. Yeah - I hope he can pull out of this and get his life put back together. He seemed like a genuinely good dude. Everything seemed to spiral out after he went into the depression from his driver killing a kid with him in the car when he was attending a funeral for his cousin.
  13. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 04:25 PM) What position? DH? He doesn't have one. I'm fairly certain we will all be dissapointed in the return we get for Q when we eventually trade him for a position player. Pitching is so good now, that while Rodon is special and everything, with hitting as s***ty as it is, to get a cost controlled bat like Kyle's, well, I think the Sox would put up with the rest and try to get him to stick in the outfield or behind the plate. Basically, what I am saying is, for the first time in a long time, it is hitting that is king and a major premium (vs. pitching). That said, a package between the two clubs would make sense as the Cubs need another pitcher with upside.
  14. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 04:08 PM) They would. We would not. I'm fairly certain the Sox would make that trade (or at least think long about it). Rodon is great and all but Schwarber fills a major position need / void on the club.
  15. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 02:44 PM) Wow, that's crazy. That would mean we didn't clinch a series at home in 1917, 1919, 1959, and 83. Or 2005. In Boston, In Anaheim, In Houston.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 02:20 PM) on the bright side, at least the Mets have pitchers with actual "stuff". Dodgers do too. Whomever faces the Cubs is a better team then the Cards today. That said, I think it will be Mets - Cubs. This young teams that are in earlier then expected are not afraid of the moment (they don't even know what the moment is). I think the Dodgers are in trouble but they also have two aces on the mound. If they win today, Greinke will win the series for him (that guy is clutch).
  17. QB Carson Wentz will be the next QB the Bears draft. I'm predicting it right now. We'll grab him in the 2nd round. Good write up from Greg Gabriel (yes, formerly of the Bears during the Angelo era). Retired now and was widely regarded as being pretty good at his job. He had an article last week blasting Goff (well...disputing the hype) and the draftnicks on TV (and well obviously Goff did nothing to help his stock against Utah). He talks very highly about Wentz and when you look at his tools and think about having Jay here, I got to say this is the type of guy you could draft, let him develop a year or two (while contending with Jay) and then turn the reigns over (while still trying to build a contender around Jay and when he gets too old or doesn't work, you have another option). http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/breaki...b-carson-wentz/
  18. QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 11:34 AM) Darn the loan payment was mere13 grand PER MONTH. I'll PASS .....If it was $12,500 and free landscaping.......I might consider it. Too late, I already bought it.
  19. I'm rooting for the Mets vs. Blue Jays. I'd also be fine with Astros or Royals.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 07:28 AM) I do the same. Really anything Peter Pan related I refer to Hook. I watched that way more than the Disney Peter Pan movie as a kid. Ruuufffioooooooooooooooooooo
  21. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 05:11 PM) It's hard not to be bullish with Pace picks at this point. Adams and Goldman look like they're progressing nicely. The first pick is out, though, so I guess we'll see. Who is Adams? Amos? I've been very impressed with Amos, but am not sure who Adams is.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 02:17 PM) Zach Zaidman ‏@ZachZaidman 1h1 hour ago Rookie C Hroniss Grasu says he took some reps with the first team at #Bears practice today. I hope he turns into a beast of a center. Would be great. I've always felt championships and top teams are built at the lines.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 01:38 PM) Since the Guillen's left, he has no source anywhere. He was pretty accurate about a lot of the Bulls stuff and was one of the first to throw it. Cowley is an ass and his style of reporting is terrible, but the other Bulls reporters wouldn't cover anything unless it was positive. And that is pretty typical of JR ran franchises, the media doesn't cover / report anything except for stuff that has been blessed.
  24. On a sidenote, you listen to people talk about Jimmy in practice and it is very clear that he's the alpha and he's anointing this his team. And based upon what other players say, it seems that they understand it is becoming his team. Funny how unlikeable Rose is vs. Pau / Buckets / Noah / Taj. Yet Bulls players clearly and utterly protect Rose so that protection has to mean they think relatively positively of him.
