  1. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 10:42 AM) You mean him doing the Jed and taking the gm job with Oakland. I don't understand the heat here and I actually think this is a pretty fair trade for both side and I probably would be fully okay with that trade. Might be because I don't think highly of Avi and I highly doubt Hawkins puts it together.
  2. It has been quieter ever since Ozzie went away. The Guillen family had extremely loose lips. The perception is Robin doesn't and I think Hahn and Kenny work hard to keep things tight. I also think we probably just got into the buyer's market so probably aren't as far along as other teams.
  3. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 09:49 AM) Now if the Sox get a bat it definitely cannot be a rental. Just no sense in trading our prospects for anything but a good 2 way player. The one thing that would under all circumstances piss me off is if we gave up legit talent for a rental. I have no desire for that this year. If we give up talent, it needs to be someone we have around for at least another year (preferably longer).
  4. Pretty crazy. Toronto adds Price and Tulo. They obviously paid a steep price, but if you think in terms of pure talent, those are two significant talents.
  5. QUOTE (harkness @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 09:31 AM) Explain this.... because Stone and Hawk were saying how tough the Sox would be in a 1 game wild card because the opposition would have to face sale. What if Sale started in the 162nd game or even the 161st game, bottom line, Sale wouldn't be able to pitch because he wouldn't have any rest. It isn't like their are 4 or 5 days in between the 162nd game and the wild card play in games.
  6. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 09:24 AM) Yep . When Greg Maddux was pitching and umps would call strike after strike because he was always around the plate how many times do you think his catcher was credited was being able to handle those near miss pitches and turn them into strikes. If I wanted to spend the time I'd look at the teams with the most walks and see how many of their catchers have a good pitch framing rating and do the same with the teams with the least walks just to prove my point. But I will let those who keep using it as a viable tool do that to try and disprove me. Maddu'x personal catcher had a really long career. Eddie Perez had a nice career thanks to Maddux.
  7. Is it done?
  8. We don't need starting pitching. If we are going to use chips, use it on a position player (who will be able to help us next year as well). I am fine with our rotation and if we want to replace Danks, lets do it from within.
  9. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 08:41 AM) I'd drop Flowers honestly. Soto can hit at the very least and his defense is ok. Flowers isn't particularly good at anything besides being Sale's personal catcher. Except being one of the best pitch framers in the league. We'll all agree he sucks offensively but his pitch framing (along with the fact that their are basically no good catchers in baseball) are what make him passable.
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 08:39 AM) Jesus that's a lot. Bats have been expensive in this market. Murphy was had for a far more reasonable cost. That was the type of move that would have been pretty nice for the Sox.
  11. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 08:37 AM) So is Pierzynski coming back a realistic move? If so, I'd LOVE IT! He is on the market and we have a history of him. Technically he's a great platoon fit with one of our other catchers. He also brings a nice presence with him. I'd say it probably is, but I can't see the Sox just dropping one of Flowers / Soto and I also don't see us carrying 3 catchers (unless they plan on DH'ing Soto a bit in a platoon with LaRoche)?
  12. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 08:36 AM) I f***ing hate Carlos Gomez. But I've still got a pipe dream where we send Avisail Garcia as a significant part of the package to get him. That is what I'm holding out hope on. I don't want to send significant prospects to the Brewers. I could see a Avisail, Hawkins, Erik Johnson type package potentially being attractive to them.
  13. QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 08:29 AM) Yeah I heard that too which blows up the idea they are still going to trade him by Friday. It isn't like he's out though. It does probably reduce the price they could get, so maybe the Brewers think it is best to hold on. I'd think at this point, maybe Gomez goes for a little less then expected and that might end up being a good thing.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 08:26 AM) Tom ‏@Haudricourt 7m7 minutes ago So, I'm told the nixed Carlos Gomez trade was more a financial issue than medical. Here are the details. http://bit.ly/1LZGMEp Interesting how many stories. First it was Wheeler...then the latest I've heard is it was actually the medicals on Gomez...now financials. Crazy how at that stage of the process, the dollars would get in the way (it isn't like Gomez is owed a ton). All that said, I'm sure the Brewers are trying to get some leaks out that make it not sound like it was a medical issue with Gomez.
  15. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 08:49 PM) @BNightengale: The #Brewers rejected the #Mets trade because of concerns over Wheeler"s physical and still plan to trade Gomez by Friday. The reports I heard this morning were that it was actually the Mets who rejected the trade due to concerns over Gomez hip. That was at least what I heard on the ESPN radio update on my drive in this AM.
  16. Yeah, that type of haul for Price would be bad for the White Sox. Mainly because I really think Julio is going to be a stud pitcher.
  17. Gomez would be a great get (as long as we didn't think his hip was a issue). Huge upgrade. I think the Brewers might find themselves pinned back, but I'd start with Johnson and Avi. I highly doubt they'd be interested, but that would be where I started and then I am sure the Brewers would work their way up from their to ask for Montas. I'd rather trade Avi then Micah. I am insane cause Micah doesn't have a great glove, I just think Micah is going to be electric offensively. The type of pest you see other teams have and get frustrated with that we wish we had. That said, the above package is far worse then the one that the Mets offered.
  18. Wow, I think I'd have rather gone for Hamels if I were the Dodgers (vs. looking at having both Price and Greinke on the market). Urias and Wood seems like a pretty steap price for PRICE. However, Dodgers aren't even a lock to make the playoffs, but if they get in the playoffs, with Price, I'd say that from a post-season perspective, I'd have them down as the favorites. Of course that is on paper. I honestly think I'd rank the Sox pretty highly if they were in the playoffs as well. I like our front of the rotation as much as any currently constructed in baseball and have faith in the back of our pen. To be frank, if we had another good outfielder who could play D, I'd have even more confidence. Note, this doesn't mean that said club would actually make the playoffs though...just saying if it did, we'd be dangerous (which has long been the approach I took from the off-season...wouldn't list us as a favorite for the playoffs, but if we got into the playoffs, I'd watch out). I would really like to see the Sox add a dynamic outfielder to the mix.
  19. BOOM....AWESOME. Game closer to the 2nd WC spot!!!
  20. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 06:03 PM) Upton and Gomez ? Yeesh getting Gomez would've been nice. He'd have been nice, but Mets had to pay a steep price. That said, I think he's under control for one more season.
  21. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 05:59 PM) Returning to his former team Forgot he was traded for Santana.
  22. If the Dodgers trade Puig for Wood and Latos that would be insane of them. Wood is a nice piece and young, etc, but Puig is a star and Latos is a FA anyway. I don't think Dodgers would really be moving Puig for that sort of package.
  23. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 05:21 PM) Wheeler would be more likely. Not a chance with Harvey, de Grom, and Syndergaard. Yeah...Mets aren't trading those three...not for Carlos Gomez.

Micah left with an ankle injury.
  25. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 04:25 PM) Saladino is the 1st prospect in forever that seems to be a good judge of the strike zone. You could argue Marcus but IMO Marcus just liked to take pitches and once he got to MLB he couldn't just take and take and take anymore. Micah seemed to have a good grasp of the zone during the start of the year.
