  1. I can't get over how excited I am about the White Sox. The team still has tons of problems but I think Ozzie was such a crash, unprofessional, pompous jackass, that nothing but good things can come of having him no longer being associated with our club. The fact that our options are potentially Alomar or Martinez, both of whom I think would be stark improvements from a demenaor standpoint would be great. I think Alomar might actually be the better fit because I think his more soft-spoken approach woudl probably go a long way after years of being around Ozzie. The team clearly is in a financial mess but there is some talent on the roster and while the talent isn't moveable, I'm hoping new voices and hopefully more motivation will help some of these guys figure things out and be productive. I fully expect Dunn and Peavy to make improvements a year from now and I won't be surprised if Rios & Beckham do as well.
  2. I'll take the heat off of Kenny for the Dunn move and to a lesser extent the Peavy move. The Rios one was incredibly risky and he knew it. The worst moves were the Rios/Hudson moves.
  3. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 09:08 AM) If we're rebuilding how could anyone see Francona as a real possibility? Hoping it's Alomar. I think Alomar or Martinez make a lot more sense.
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 07:57 AM) I'd much rather have Martinez. Sandy seems like a quite version of Ozzie, a manager that goes with his gut. I want someone who uses statistics to make better decisions. Sandy called a very good game. Catchers tend to make great managers and I have always said Sandy would be a manager some day. If you have Sandy, you definitely would like to have an experienced bench coach though. I wonder who that would be?
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 04:40 PM) I dunno...considering everything, I thought the line had a decent game. Cutler had plenty of time most of the game. They couldn't run worth anything, which is on the line, but Cutler had the time he needed. The line played pretty well all things considered. The non PI call on Hester was a huge call but the Bears horrific execution (drops & stupid penalties) really did them in. The Bears must lead the world in drops. Cutler wasn't brilliant but he wasn't horrible, either. He did a lot of things that would have had the Bears move the chains but the guys didn't execute, etc. Sometimes the poor execution put them in 3rd and long situations, again, not a good thing. Ugly game but I expected to be 0-3 at this point. I think they will figure some stuff out, but it just blows my mind that this team overestimates how good its wideouts are, etc.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 01:12 PM) Honestly...he wouldn't excite me. He's professional, smart, proven, and classy. I'd love to have him. To see how many people gripe about LaRussa or even Francona, it just boggles my mind. Especially when you have the crap the Sox have ran out. I haven't watched a game in a month and don't miss baseball at all. I hate this team and hate this organization right now. They are classless in the way they act and this is the most unlikeable team I've ever been a fan of. And to hear that the organizatoin might have zero major changes, it blows my mind.
  7. I would love to grab a stud SS early on. Or a stud pitching prospect, possibly someone who slides that wants lots of green.
  8. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 01:41 PM) Sounds like A&M will officially be gone to the SEC today. I can say with full enthusiasm that they can go f*** themselves. Iowa's wideouts this year are better than last year. It is taking some time for JV to get comfortable but he played a beautiful game this past week and a great 4th quarter against Pitt. He can make every throw and Iowa's wideouts are legit with McNutt, Davis, and MM. Coker is a beast too. ISU outplayed us though in our only lost and it was your QB that did it. His legs were fantastic and he made so many plays. I still think Iowa battles into the back end of the top 25 by seasons end.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 02:38 PM) 17 dropbacks, 0 sacks, 2 hits. They need to run it and throw more screen plays into the mix to keep the Packers from starting to tee up though. Sucks that Raji got to Cutler on the 1st and goal cause if Cutler could step into it, he would have had Dane for a TD (instead it was almost a pick).
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2011 -> 01:55 PM) If he did, then he's nuts. He overthrew Williams. Knox would have had to be 20 yards down the field to catch that. He didn't overthrow it. He just didn't expect the safety to cover that kind of ground. Had the safety not been there it was a perfectly thrown ball. Regardless, the safety was there. I was ok taking that shot down the field though. Sick range by GB's safety to make that play. Cutler played great in the 2nd half. Looked to be more comfortable in the pocket. He looked very jumpy in the 1st quarter.
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 18, 2011 -> 03:27 PM) Most of the difference is the O-line. If what happened today continues for the rest of the season, Angelo should be fired for not addressing the O-line correctly. A young oline playing in that environment was not going to be good and than to make matters worse you have no Bennett or Williams for the good chunk/all of the game. Than you lose Carimi as well. This game had ugly written all over it. To be frank, I expect our line to be a lot better by seasons end and think it is better than last years. The Bears line isn't as bad as it was during this game. I will say this. Jay looked flustered in the pocket but he also didn't make any dumb throws (maybe one I saw all day) from the perspective of TO's. Additionally, he was killed with some costly wide-out drops and there were some times where as soon as it looked like he had someone to throw to, he couldn't get the damn ball off cause he was getting crushed. All that said, the long TD was inexcuseable in the cover 2 and that sack with the fumble was as well (Cutler had what...2.5 seconds). That was a collosal failure to block and killed the momentum we had built up (heck, the offense looked like it was getting into rhythm with 2 straight field goals).
  12. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 07:57 PM) BTW, Gage, don't worry, you'll still be the second best program to ISU starting this year. Got a nice looking recruiting class at least. My basketball program is making progress.
  13. 9/11/06...I started my job at Deloitte and coincidentally met my future wife on the same day.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 01:00 PM) Humber, no doubt in my mind I really like Humber and think he'll be a solid #3/#4. Not sure Stewart will be any better than that. Since I"ve seen more to like out of Humber this year than Stewart, I'll go with Humber. I like Stewart, don't love him, and still think there is a shot he ends up being a better reliever than a starter. It will be interesting to see though. The big thing I like about Humber is he has the better "plus" pitch out of the two guys (his curve is just nasty). Plus he seems to get nice movement on his fastball and his command has been good. I see no reason Humber can't continue to improve and pitch like he did a good chunk of the year. Heck the only real time he struggled is as he started to fatigue. After building innings this year and with a good off-season of working out, he can be in much better shape and hopefully improve his stamina.
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 03:10 PM) And any team could see Vernon Wells was owed a billion dollars for the next 4 years. But where there's Alex Anthopoulos' will, there's usually a way. That deal isn't AA being good, rather Reagins being bad.
  16. I was listening to Sciosc being interviewed today. Man is our manager embarassing. I can't wait till we have a manager who isn't a complete ass clown.
  17. I don't know. IF the Sox think they could keep Kubel next year, this might be a nice move to try and help pick him up. Plus, it would give the Sox the ability to offer him arbitration if they'd like. Kubel would look nice in the lineup next year and would probably see a bounce back in his power numbers moving away from Target field.
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 06:48 PM) Offensive line actually looked pretty good in that 1st half. A couple mistakes here and there, but there's 2 weeks to get those fixed. Run game looked alright, Cutler looked good with all the time he had. Defense was alright, a little vulnerable to the run, which should be expected with Briggs out. Wright had a pretty bad game, but if that's the only bad thing on the defense, they'll be just fine. Peppers was a monster. I was really pleased with Cutler. Good footwork and nice decisions. In fact I noticed a couple plays where he looked off the defense and made some nice reads (showing his comfort in year two of the offense). He got hung out to dry on wideout drops, including a couple big third down drops and than there was Hester's slip in the end zone. Roy Williams looked real bad today. Just one game but catch the ball. Defense had a couple solid drives but than obviously got crushed. Part of that was due to turnovers, poor field position, and of course the fact that we play a base defefnse throughout the preseason (not blitzes, minimal changing things up). We left the game healthy and despite the blowout score, I saw plenty to be pleased with.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 10:54 AM) So...does getting a $7 mil a year discount on Weaver negate some of the Reagins badness from the Wells deal? IT doesn't. That deal gets done regardless of Reagins. Clearly Weaver wanted to stay in Anaheim.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 01:30 PM) And yet, they're on the verge of fielding a competitive team again. And than they fired there coach and replaced him with someone who had no business being a head coach. They lost the top cb in football. Ya, I'm going to say they went backwards this year.
  21. Watched Pirates at the local dollar theatre over the weekend. Enjoyed it. Much better than the last garbage one.
  22. QUOTE (farmteam @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 01:36 PM) Wait, really? Northwestern doesn't have beer sales? Is that a school thing or an Evanston thing? Despite growing up 10-15 minutes from the the campus, I never went to a football game there. No beer is allowed to be sold at any collegiate sports event. This rule was implemented a few years ago.
