Mitchell Blurb
QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 10:36 AM) I think there is significant doubt that Danks will be the CF of the future. I think this board is way too high on him and he has a lot to prove as to whether he would be a good enough hitter to be a full time player. He could very well end up being Brian Anderson part deux. Welcome aboard. I think Danks has all the defensive ability and offensively he's hit. He definitely strikes out more than you like and that might be his issue going forward which hinders him from hitting at the big league level. I feel that most outsiders underrate Danks because he didn't hit for the power everyone expected him to at Texas. With that said Mitchell is a phenomenal athlete and there is no reason he shouldn't also be getting groomed for CF.

Reds and Blue Jays considering Rolen-Alonso swap.
No way it is Alonso for Rolen straight up. And if so I really really really think the Sox need to consider moving Dye, Thome, and maybe even Alexei.

Halladay Superthread
Apparently the Angels GM said that the Halladay to the Angels was 50/50. Thats what I heard on the radio at least.

Reds and Blue Jays considering Rolen-Alonso swap.
Guys this isn't true. Come on, common sense tells us it isn't true. I know Alderson just went for Sanchez but Sanchez is a superior player at this point than Rolen. They play different positions and Rolen clearly has the better career but Sanchez has more good years left. And if teams are really giving up these type of prospects right now, well than lets sell Jermaine Dye for Yonder Alonso and pronto.

Alexei Ramirez Updates
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) What was Alexei trying to do in the first place? What an idiotic slide. If he just did a normal take out slide, he would have never got injured. Also, it seemed to me he overexaggerated his injury. Sure, it hurts, but he spent a good minute or two just rolling around on the turf. Does anyone else get the feeling he has vaginitis? He doesn't like to stay in 2B hard when he is turning DP's, he doesn't do good take out slides, everytime he gets some chin music he hits to deck and lies there for a minute, he always covers his head on pickoff throws to first, he seemed to get his feelings hurt when AJ called him out, etc. He's coming close to Alex Rios territory. His spikes got caught. That's why it looked awkward. Stop blaming Alexi for his injury or calling it over-exaggerated. He got hurt, the replays show it too.

White Sox Interested in Trading Fields for Pie
QUOTE (Special K @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 09:35 AM) Hmm... it's too bad Brian Anderson wasn't a top-flight defensive outfielder, otherwise we could have just filled that need internally... Brian wanted out. He made it clear that he didn't want to be here and wanted a chance to go elsewhere. He had been voicing that internally for a long time.

White Sox Interested in Trading Fields for Pie
QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 09:20 AM) Isn't he pretty much another Jerry Owens?? Owens never showed the power potential Pie has. Pie is just 24 years old so it isn't a bad idea. I still think a bigger deal happens and the Sox add Pie as the defensive outfielder (with the upside of developing into a starter) and George Sherrill.

- White Sox Interested in Trading Fields for Pie
White Sox Interested in Trading Fields for Pie By Jason Gage Bruce Levine is reporting that Ken Williams is seeking a top-flight defensive outfielder for the pennant race and that one of those options is former Cubs phenom Felix Pie. Evidently the Sox have been scouting Pie for over six weeks and the Tribune's Mark Gonzalez is further substantiating the rumor, indicating on Wednesday, that the White Sox, will try to trade recently demoted infielder Josh Fields for Pie. I don't see how you guys think it will be a defensive upgrade. Nix is a great defender but I don't know if he's proven he's a great defender at SS and Beckham clearly would be a defensive downgrade.- 2009 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 04:27 AM) He's the single reason why I think the Giants would have a real shot to get to the World Series if they make it to October. He's that f***ing good. Him and Cain could the type of duo that carries them through the playoffs. Can't believe they gave up Alderson though.- 2009 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) I happened to notice Padres pitching prospect Matt Latos has made it to the majors. Prior to the 2007 I loved the guy and was hoping he wouldn't accept the Padres offer as a Draft and Follow candidate from 2006. Even though he probably wouldn't have made it to our position in the draft, it's interesting to see a guy I had a man crush on succeed so rapidly. With seemingly little minor league experience. He threw a gem tonight, 7 innings of 1 hit baseball and only threw like 86 pitches. He's a really good one.- Any idea why Flowers hasn't been playing?
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:17 PM) It's just a figure of speech. Cole has good power and has a bright future. Speaking of Joe Borchard, I have a Joe Borchard Barons bobblehead. If by bright future you mean upside of a back-up catcher than I'd agree. He's a solid minor leaguer and if things pan out he'll have a run as a back-up with a big league club.- White Sox Catch-All Snippet Thread
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:42 PM) Yeah, Sherrill isn't worth Poreda and Fields. Fields and maybe McCulloch, maybe you trade Fields and Gilmore. They'll want more than one player for Sherrill, but you don't want to way overpay for him. Ultimately Sherrill is worth what teams are willing to give up and an offer of Fields and McCulloch would get laughed at. The Dodgers are offering a package much better than that and my guess is the Angels would as well. If the Sox could get Sherrill for Poreda and Fields than I'd say they are doing great because a couple years from now when Sherril walks we'd be getting 2 1st rounders back (ideally). And I still think Poreda's upside is that of Sherril.- Alexei Ramirez Updates
QUOTE (CQMVP @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 09:23 PM) So, we going to run out Beckham, Nix, Getz now? Fields gets brought back up? Fields can't come back up for a bit. I'd expect Nix at 3B with Beckham at SS. Lillibridge might also come back up as he's been putting up really good numbers in Charlotte.- SN: White Flag Part Two?
There is absolutely no way I could endorse a White flag trade. The Sox have the best pitching in the division (Porcello is fading fast in Detroit and the Tigers pen is not near as good as the Sox pen (Jenks has a track-record and will be fine)) and at the end of the day pitching is king. The offensive slump isn't nice but they'll break back out of it shortly and the only major concern in my mind is whether the Sox defense will allow them to be legit players. Too many games does there poor defense show up (even if it doesn't count as an error, they have horrible range in the outfield and a lot of the roster makes bone-head plays).- SN: White Flag Part Two?
White Flag Part Two? By Alex E. SoxNet.net As the trade deadline approaches, and the White Sox are playing God-awful baseball, now three back in the AL Central, one has to wonder if maybe they shouldn't be buyers. It's already been twelve years since the infamous White Flag Trade. Should they be considering a second installment?Full Article At the Link- Freddy Sanchez to the Giants
QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 05:08 PM) It must really suck to be a Pirates fan. Why, that is an absolutely phenomenal haul for the Pirates.- Palehose vs. Twinkies 7/29--7:10pm--CSN

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) Leaves them stacked for next year too. Remember, if you're a team like the Phillies...your window is now, when Howard, Utley, Rollins, perhaps Ibanez, perhaps Werth, Victorino, Hamels, Lidge are all right around their prime ages. 2 years from now, guys are getting hurt because they're older, guys are in walk years, guys are more expensive, etc. They've got a shot at the WS for 3 years in a row. You want to face Hamels, Blanton, and Lee 3 times in the same 7 game series? The Phils now have a shot at winning 2 or 3 straight world series. It was a brilliant move, plus while the Tribe got a good package, in no way do I think the Phils over-paid. It was a fair trade, imo. Made sense for both parties.- Trade Winds Catch All
Pirates have offered Sanchez a 3 year deal to stay in Pittsburgh. If he doesn't accept, the trade to the Giants will go through.- 7/28 Games
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 09:45 PM) “The basics have been working, getting ahead," Holmberg said. "Ideally I like to try and bust hitters inside with the fastball, get their eyes going pretty fast. If they're behind a little with their swing I'll go with the same thing, fastball in. Then I'll change speeds with a changeup out or curveball down. That's ideal." Holmberg’s a guy who pitches in sequence, he relies more on control then power, but his frame is projectable enough to suggest room for growth in the 3 to 4 MPH range. Also, he's only 18 “Holmberg's fastball sits consistently at 87-88 mph, but can touch 91. He also has a very good curveball that has two-plane break and has shown feel for a changeup. At 6-foot-3, 220 pounds his body has some projection left that could lead to a little bit more velocity, though he'll rely on continuing to command his fastball and use it to set up his curve.” http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/high-...009/267784.html He saw his velocity spike towards the end of his high school season.- 7/28 Games
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 08:07 PM) I will say this one thing... he better develop some velocity. Umm...Holmberg is throwing pretty hard for a prep kid. He's been sitting in the low 90's and getting up into the 94 MPH range. - White Sox Interested in Trading Fields for Pie
