  1. Richard...go out there and win this thing.
  2. Ok It makes sense for all teams but Cleveland. The Mariners are getting a very good lefty starter and a top SS prospect. The Rays are getting a front of the rotation ace to go with Garza (since Kazmir hasn't been as good) and the Tribe gets a power arm in Morrow and a guy in Jeff Clement that isn't that good of a prospect (high pick out of USC, yes, but his value was as a catcher and I don't know if he's a good enough hitter to stick at 1B or be at least an above average 1st baseman. This doesn't make sense.
  3. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 07:25 PM) I'm not too fond of finesse pitchers and his success has only come when the Indians have sucked. How the heck is Lee a finesse pitcher? Lee has very good stuff for a lefty. He might not throw 96 but he's got great stuff. Dan Haren doesn't throw super hard, Mark Buehrle doesn't. Give me a break. The guy won the Cy Young in the AL, you don't do that by sucking.

    Knight...I always use em.
  5. Sox would have to obviously acquire another reliever.
  6. It doesn't make sense to me. As I said, I only trade prospects for Haren. Plus we all know I have a major man crush on Floyd. Cliff Lee is actually pretty intriguing. I"d trade Dotel, Poreda, Richard for Cliff Lee. I don't know if Cleveland does that or not but that isn't a bad package considering they could get spects for Dotel (get the Dodgers or Angels involved).
  7. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 02:23 PM) I actually think it's vice versa as Danks, IMO, they are higher on, and who has more upside. Not to mention he and his brother both fired Boras so I doubt he'll be a problem to sign long term. Well Danks turned down a simlar deal to what Floyd accepted.
  8. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 02:28 PM) Then Joe Beimel (WAS) and Arthur Rhodes (CIN) make a whole hell of a lot more sense than trading for a closer. I agree. The Sox have definately targeted Sherril but the Angels and Dodgers both have bigger needs in the pen and ultimately I can't see giving up a big chip to get a reliever after the Sox already traded Brandon Allen for one. If we use our top prospects, use them on Dan Haren.
  9. Cowley: Sox Interested in Haren/Lee By Jason Gage SoxNet Joe Cowley, Sun Times, reported in a radio interview that the Chicago White Sox might be interested in acquiring Indians ace Cliff Lee or Diamondbacks ace Dan Haren. Cowley went on to say that Octavio Dotel mentioned he might be part of a "3 team deal" which would send Lee to the White Sox. Gavin Floyd is the name Cowley through out as the potential "centerpiece" of a Dan Haren Deal...Click to Read Our Take
  10. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 05:00 AM) According to Cowley today, there were rumors that the sox are still trying to acquire a front line SP with Gavin Floyd and minor leaguers. Only a guy like Dan Haren would make sense to include Gavin in a deal. The Dbacks would save $25 mill over the next 4 years, as Haren is owed $49.25 through 2013, and Gavin is owed $24.25 over that same time. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...soxnt25.article The Sox won't deal Floyd. They'd deal Danks before Floyd because Gavin is actually signed and cost controled. Edit: Dan Haren might be the one guy they'd deal Floyd for.
  11. Sox want a left handed arm for the pen to go with Thornton.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 12:05 PM) A split would be heavenly, but even being back 2 games after this weekend wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. The Tigers aren't exactly throwing out a great starter. So how about all of you b****ing just shut-up already (yeah, I said it). Verlander vs Contreras was clearly a game in there favor. I can't say the same about tonight's match-up where I believe the Sox are the favorites.
  13. Heyman, Via Twitter, is reporting that its a done deal.
  14. QUOTE (qwerty @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 08:16 AM) It was 8 years ago already, that's insane. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SD...200105260.shtml Geeze time flies.
  15. http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/soxnet/200...perfection.html Article talking about the No-No and of course the fact that the Sox are in first place
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 07:52 PM) Frankly, I think that the situation dictates it. If it's a 1 run game, your team still has a shot if they can get one baserunner. If it's a 5 run game, you need a legit meltdown by the pitcher. Do you bunt for hits very often in a 5 run game? Not really, not even Juan Pierre did that very often I'd guess. About 4-5 years ago someone in San Diego (don't remember if it was a Padre or the opposition) took a no-no into the 8th or 9th and I think it might have even been Ben Davis (could even be 6 or 7 years ago) who bunted and messed up the no-hitter and there was a huge out-cry amongst baseball players regarding it. I'll try to dig up the details but all I know is if I'm on the opposition I do everything I can to prevent getting no-hit. I wouldn't want to get no-hit, no way. Plus that way, you fully earn that no-hitter when you throw it.
  17. - Dennis Martinez Perfect Game against the Dodgers - Mark Langston and Mike Witt Combined No Hitter - Tony Gwynn 3000th hit - Rickey Henderson 3000th hit - Rickey Henderson breaking the all time run record - Barry Bonds hitting the HR to tie Hank Aaron on the all time list - Last strikeout of Nolan Ryan's career - All 3 ALCS Games in Anaheim (Sox sweep and clinch to go to the World Series in the final of the 3 games).
  18. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 06:45 PM) I guess it depends on how Colon does. I'm guessing we'll probably see a bullpen arm come up for a bit, and we'll decide what to do when Danks' spot comes up again when we get there. Colon wouldn't be ready in time for Danks next start so that would mean the Sox would have to skip a turn in the rotation. If Torres has already been sent down though, it'll be too late and both him and Poreda will be unavailable.
  19. So Torres would make the next scheduled start than or so I'd presume?
  20. Stoney has been twitter about it and its been rumored a few other places. Package is believe to be built around 3B Brett Wallace (who was one of the guys the Sox were rumored to be targeting with last years draft pick which ultimately was used to select Gordon Beckham). Holliday would provide some serious protection for Pujols and lessen the Cubs chances at the division. The Cards have also been tied to Halladay but I would be shocked if they could acquire both. Colby Rasmus would have to be the centerpiece of a Halladay deal, along with there young catching prospect and more.
  21. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 05:22 PM) Just this morning. Very interesting.
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 04:33 PM) Seriously, can we promote this guy already? I know they want him to develop his change. He can't do this at high A? We're not talking about jumping to the majors for crying out loud. He's got a comfort thing with the pitching coach in Kanny.
  23. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 04:57 PM) Can't you be a PTBNL after 6 months or something like that? I think he can, maybe wrong on that though. Since Viciedo signed in December, if the deadline for a PTBNL trade to be completed is 5 months or less, Viciedo can be dealt. I know Flowers wasn't part of the Peavy talks. I was saying that Poreda and Richard were, and the other guys we don't know about. I have to assume they're all up for sale when it comes to Kenny though. Unlike Beckham, there are questions about all of these guys as to whether they'll perform in the Majors so I don't see why Kenny would treat any of them like Beckham. Your probably right. Viciedo was a signing as opposed to a draft pick. I know draft picks can't be dealt for a full year after signing and than there is a limit as to how long someone can be a PTBNL.
