2nd straight year on Sox DSL team. 2.21 ERA this season in 20.1 innings of work with 18k's and 15 bb's. He's a 5'10 lefty whose 21 years old.

Another good thing about Guillen, he doesn't abuse his starters

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 12:33 PM) Good thread. To be perfectly honest, I think the Tigers may eventually take a significant tumble and finish in 3rd place, and the main reason I believe this is they have abused their starting pitching. To be fair, they kind of have to do that in order to keep winning ballgames so I can't blame them, but it's going to catch up with them eventually, and in a big way. I actually think the Twins are going to end up winning the division due to them probably being the most predictable, consistent squad at the end of the day (consistently mediocre, but that might be enough in the AL Central), but obviously I hope I'm wrong. I think a bigger concern is the fact that there hitting is falling off a ledge too. -
Mitchell will make his debut tonight batting 7th in CF.

Angels evidently are rumored to be offering Jared Weaver, Howie Kendrick, and prospects. Or the Jays are asking for that. Not quite certain which way it goes, but heard it on the radio while heading back from lunch.

QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 12:22 PM) Would u rate our farm system now in the top 15 or bottom 15 with all the imrpovement since last year? In the top 15. I think the Sox have made significant improvements to the system. I'd have put them as borderline top 10 but if you exclude Poreda/Richard/Beckham from those rankings it puts them back into that middle category. However, Tyler Flowers/Danks/Hudsons/Viciedo's progress might change things, especially if Mitchell can make an immediate impact as well. The big thing is that the organization is much much deeper than it has been in previous years and that is a tribute to how good last years draft was so far.

Utah has matched on Millsap. I expect Boozer to be a Bull by the end of the weekend. -
I don't see either guy as being upgrades or very useful. Not going to give up anything to get them, thats for certain.

QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) Why would his upside limit him from making BHam early next year? If he does well in high A wouldn't that be enough for AA starting next year?? I'm a bit confused as I don't think anyone has indicated that he wouldn't have a shot at opening next season in Bham. Personally, I expect him to play most of the 2nd half of the season in High A and than open next year in AA. He's got upside and a very live arm and is definately one of the arms to watch in the Sox system. I'd put Hudson/Carter/Shirek/Leesman in the group of guys with close to a year under there belts and the ability to eventually turn into top 100 prospects.

Andrew, there are talks that the Hornets might have to trade Chris Paul due to the economy. This thing is bad and the NBA is hurting, especially with a looming lockout. -

That was the 1st inning velocity. He pretty much pitches in the 92-94 range and can top out at 95-96 so I'd say the report we got was relatively consistent. Although I have read a lot of places about how he's pitching into the mid 90's more often. You also don't know the speed of the gun. Sometimes guns are fast, sometimes they are slow. -

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 08:44 PM) He wanted 5/50, and maybe he's disrespected by what the Lakers offfered, and he has played in Miami before. Looks like Utah are going to match the Milsap offer, so if I were them, I'd get in the Odom sweepstakes ASAP. Disrespected or not you don't go and take a lot less money to play in Miama or anywhere else. Especially when the team that is offering you the most is also the NBA CHamps. I buy zero into the fact that Miami is going to get Odom, not if the Lakers did in fact offer what has been reported. -
Argh...I need baseball. Thank goodness I'm going to a happy hour today to take my mind off of no Sox baseball.

Ya, but I don't think at any point in time did the Rays turn down a Jackson for Dye deal, which is what I think people are leading at.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 01:30 PM) He also cost $10 million per year less or more, which is a large consideration these days. But that trade I speak of was also never offered. Money is a factor yes, but they did go out and sign Burrell. The Edwin Jackson stuff was more or less speculation by Soxtalk.

Rosenthal says we could be interested in Rios.
Chisoxfn replied to Jimmywins1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Shelby fits better in there time-line. That wouldn't be a bad trade for the Royals as Shelby has some upside, although he's stalled a bit this season. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 12:47 PM) It was talked about here over the winter. I think that was rumored. If the Sox offered Dye and we didn't get Jackson than the Rays GM is the dumbest GM alive. Because what they got was a lot less than Jermaine Dye for Edwin Jackson.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) Does he mean the price for Halladay or David Price for him? I didnt think the Rays were connected at all with him.Your probably right, but if the Rays were serious that would be a potentially smart move to make them the world series favorites for these next two years. Losing Price would hurt though.
-
Per Heyman's twitter. If Joba or Price are being dangled than forget about it. Sox couldn't touch that package. Even with Price having his fair share of struggles this season.
