Why would Odom take less money than what the Lakers offered him. The Lakers offer was a year less and still had more guaranteed money than the Heat offer of 5 years. Bulls*** Odom signs for the MLE when the Lakers are offering more than that. -
QUOTE (ObamaKnowsBest @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 10:06 AM) Just out of a curiousity is this a phone interview or something done through email? Depends on the interviews we do. Some are done via email, some are done via phone. Typically depends on the players preference.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 09:33 AM) Well, you can get the "Everything 450" plan through Sprint, which gives you 450 anytime minutes, and free nights starting after 7 and free weekends, as well as everything else for $79.99. Also, just tell them you work for GM or Blockbuster (they don't verify) and you can get 20% off every month. Or Deloitte and get 25% (but than again I worked for Deloitte).

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 06:53 AM) All internet based phones will have some sort of data charge for them, but the PRE (Sprint) charges less than AT&T does. I pay 55 a month for my sprint data plan and phone and have 750 minutes and unlimited everything data (including texts) plus the standard unlimited nights and weekends. Therefor, there is no f***ing way I'll ever get an iphone and basically pay double what I currently do.

FutureSox Interview: Dan Hudson By Matthew Battaglia Just an FYI, but it reads easier on the FutureSox page where its bolded and everything. Plus we have links to the player profiles and stuff.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 05:47 AM) Sorry, I was more referring to the comment about his OPS being average-heavy (may have quoted the wrong post). I do understand BABIP, though I also think it is sometimes over-used as an analytical tool. My overall point is, he seems to be a high-AVG hitter in general. Plus good hitters will have a higher BABIP. Why because they hit the ball harder more often. Dar. Just like really good pitchers will put up a lower batting average on balls in play (most often). Why because they have plus stuff (well this is in the case of the typical front of the rotation starters) and by having that plus stuff, less guys probably square em up.

It sounds like what I was hearing was off base. Carter is still in Kanny.

Not sure which of the twitter crew was twittering about Gartrell but I saw the tweets from his agent and have reached out to try and get an interview set-up. Thanks to whomever it was that was doing the direct tweets. PM me and you obviously have dibs on doing the interview -
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) Koufax/Drysdale, Spahn/Sain, Maddux/Glavine, Johnson/Schilling, Buehrle/Halladay . . . oh yeah that sounds about right. Pair the formidable Roy Halladay with a reliable, mid-3 ERA lefty and you have one of if not the greatest starting pitching duo in baseball history. WB!!!!

I don't know cause a week ago I had heard the Sox still had some things they wanted him to work on down in Kanny. The plan from what I understand was for Dex to spend a while longer in Kanny, than the rest of the season in Winston Salem and than open next year in Bham. But stuff obviously changes. Thats why I'm so skeptical.
-
So like I say, I'm not at all sure if this is in fact a reality. Its coming from one person and I'm trying to get some verification out of Winston Salem.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) Where did you hear that by the way? Got an email from an old source of mine down in Kanny. The only source I ever had in Kanny, but he had seen how all of us were constantly blabbing about Dex deserving a promotion. Literally haven't talked to him in a year or so and didn't think he was at all involved with the org anymore. I'm trying to get confirmation.
-
I'm hearing rumors of a promotion. Can anyone confirm or deny for me?
-
Omogrosso was in the rotation to build up his secondary stuff. Hopefully he's been able to do it cause he's got nice velocity on his fastball for a reliever. I think he has a good shot at projecting as a middle to back of the pen type of guy. I'd put him a bit above Link and Nunez in terms of relief prospects in our organization.

QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 09:14 AM) Oh sure, blame it on SHIPPS But that Stone Pony is a good lookin' youngster . . . And our announcer.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 09:41 AM) If I'm reading the numbers right, it will be nearly impossible for the Jazz to both match that contract to Milsap and avoid the luxury tax unless they can get their hands on Portland's cap space. They're at $73.4 million next year according to Hoopshype. The offer sheet for Milsap was over $10 million for next year IIRC. Boozer is at $12 million. Even if they paid absolutely nothing on Jerome James's contract, they can't deal him straight up for Boozer, because James is only signed for $6.6 million. They'd need to take back at least another $4-$5 million in deals from the Bulls (aka Tyrus Thomas) to match the salaries, and that extra money is all over the tax level if they match on Milsap. But at least it is less money to get taxed on than previously and than the Jazz could in theory go out and trade Tyrus for draft picks to a team that has cap room or something along those lines. -
You can thank Heads. He wanted more Steve Stone so he decided to upload Stoney's Poney as my avatar.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 09:31 AM) Reggie Willits? Great comp

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 09:22 AM) I'm a marketing guy and I could make good hockey decisions! On a serious note... he's not just some marketing guy, he's the TEAM PRESIDENT. In that role, he gets his f***ing say. The point is he doesn't know much more about hockey than me or at least that was the case when he took the job and I highly doubt he became an expert with the ability to make personnel decisions in the past two years or so.

Tyler Kuhn love anyone? Guy has put up great minor league numbers for a 15th round pick thus far. Could be a nice looking 4th outfielder or even one of those scrappy high OBP guys in time.
-
And if I were to highlight some guys not in the top 8 or so prospects with a shot of reaching those ranks (or higher), it would be: Charlie Shirek - Good sink and good velo Charlie Leesman - Plus FB for a lefty Tracye Thompson - A tools shed (very raw) Stephen UpChurch - Very nice package of pitches for a youngster (2nd season) John Gilmore - Tons of power potential and good tools but production doesn't match Brent Morel - I hated his pick so I hate on him, but the Randa comparisons might be legit Nathan Jones - Plus Plus Curve; Plus Velocity on FB; Improving control, not so repeatable delivery
-
If anyone is curious, I was the person that had Jordan Danks as the #1 prospect. I think Flowers is the more sure thing (cause he's got a major league bat) but I love Danks all around athleticism and his ability to play a plus CF. And as always I think you guys will notice that this years draft picks are ranked lower than they will probably be a few months from now but that is kind of consistent with the way we've always done our evaluations since we've gotten zero production out of them. Mitchell slots into a pretty fair spot currently since he's still a ways from the majors but has great tools while a guy like Trayce Thompson or the Holmbergs of the world could really shoot up the lists if they make names for themselves (and of course in Trayce's cause sign).
-
I'm no expert but I don't want my marketing guys making my hockey decisions.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 03:49 PM) The problem with any deal not involving Hinrich is that we're not helping the Jazz get under the luxury tax this season. That's the whole motivation of doing the 3 way; the Blazers are under the cap this season, they take on Hinrich's salary, the Bulls salary stays roughly constant, the Jazz get Luxury tax relief. But Jerome James is an insurance paid contract and a buyout is plausible thus keeping you away from luxury tax. At least that is my understanding.
