QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 07:00 PM) 2007 type night for Podsednik. Niemann made phenomenal pitches too. Two very good curves to put him away.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 06:54 PM) Guys, so lets play manager here. Who do you bring into the game in the 8th?? CR to start it? Liney? (lets hope not). (And I am assuming we don't score here) I'd assume Dotel will be in.

Its starts like this that show us why its important to be patient. I don't know if CR will put it all together but he really does have very good stuff from the left side.

What was Josh Fields' peak value?
Was Fields ever a part of the Soriano deal. I know Bmac did, but don't remember Fields.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) Will KG ever be 100% again? Will Pierce and Allen start showing their age? Will Rajon Rondo run in to the crowd and beat someone up? Will the Magic play way over there heads? Sorry, Orlando isn't that good. They got hot and made it deep.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 02:37 PM) Is Poreda still in the pen tonight? I take it Torres won't be added until tomorrow. Good question. It would be smart to still have Poreda available.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 10:54 AM) Did you guys not lose Hedo? Did Boston and Cleveland switch conferences? Boston is the hands down favorite anyway. KG coming back plus Rasheed >>> any other teams off-season to date.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 11:54 AM) Good, it was clear that AP was not ready for the majors. He has zero command of any of his pitches and needs to continue to work out as a starter. Also, what the hell happened to his velocity when he came up? He was throwing 90-91 most of the time which isnt exactly what has made him as good as he has been in the minors. Poreda is good because of the sinking action he gets on his fastball. The velocity was down but I saw him clocked pretty consistently in the 90-94 range which is pretty consistent with how he pitches. In short-bursts he'll hit 96-97. I'm not sure if the Sox told him to take it down 1-2 or what though cause it definately wasn't as "advertised" in terms of velocity but it rarely is (and that isn't just with the Sox). Minor league guns tend to be a bit juiced. Regardless the sink at a good velocity is what makes him special or at least intriguing, imo.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 10:05 AM) Pargo: $2 million Barnes: $1.8 million Bulls front office: terrible Bulls were looking for offense off the bench, not defense. Right or wrong thats what we were looking for.

I've just been told that if Torres is promoted, Poreda's the one coming back. Ozzie doesn't want Aaron there right now. Aaron getting promoted was on Kenny and Ozz has told Kenny he needs someone else right now. It has nothing to do with Poreda, more that the Sox feel Poreda needs more seasoning and because of it Oz just isn't comfortable using Aaron. We'll see him back in the Knights rotation. This of course is assuming Torres is actually up.

QUOTE (Pumpkin Escobar @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 09:37 AM) I'm excited to see him... Did you mention his cutter on the future sox thing...I thought that it said a fastball 90-93, a slider, and a changeup. So by that - he added a cutter. Which is what I was getting at since it seems to be the thing our guys add. And if you're saying it's now his best pitch - I am interested. Unless you just meant his fastball with life is his cutter but the description I saw sounded like it was a two-seamer. I mentioned his fastball because it should be pointed out that it is his fastball which he uses. He has a 4 seamer, 2 seamer, and cutter and every bit of his pitches have life. I'll add another sentence or two to give more detail. He really really pitches off his fastball but has a good enough slider and change to keep hitters off balance. But the key is the movement he's got on his FBs. Hopefully he's got good enough command of it I kind of liken him to that prospect who sits through the minors and somehow comes up and has a nice run in the majors and surprisingly turns into a serviceable starter. I don't know if it'll ever be with the Sox but I wouldn't be shocked if he turns into a solid reliever for us and maybe even has a few good spot-starts.

Draft Signings
QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 09:31 AM) Any update on Trayce Thompson? Mully and Hanley interviewed Mychael the day after the draft and he said that Trayce was very signable and couldn't wait to get started as a pro. I'm a little surprised he hasn't signed yet. I don't think we'll hear much more about draft signings until close to the deadline, which will be August 17th this year since the 15th falls on a Saturday.
