  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 27, 2009 -> 06:59 PM) Viciedo seems destined to be an OF IMO. Maybe, but he's improved a lot defensively so I think the Sox are planning on keeping him there for the time being. Now if Beckham ultimately ends up at 3B, than Viciedo would obviously slide. Either way I expect Viciedo and Beckham in Chicago by seasons end. Of course thats because I think Viciedo will be putting up pretty monster numbers for the next month or so in AA and than get promoted to AAA.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2009 -> 06:06 PM) Word. Soxtalk has incredible people throughout the minor league system. By far and away the best on the web for the White Sox.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 27, 2009 -> 05:08 PM) I really don't understand the need to "promote" Beckham to Charlotte unless they want to throw Charlotte's owners a bone. They can't be too happy with the White Sox right now. The Sox are moving Beckham to 3rd, at least for the time being, and they can't do that in AA because they'd be blocking Viciedo. Now, they could have opted to move Viciedo up to AAA and let him play with Contreras while keeping Beck's in AA, but I think they also feel Beck's will be promoted soon anyway and Viciedo is finally getting rolling in AA so no reason to move him up too soon.
  4. I would do it. I don't know if Oakland does though.
  5. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ May 27, 2009 -> 02:54 PM) which makes him a great piece for any trade package we may offer for that missing top of the rotation right hander If I were making a deal with the Sox, I'd try to get Fields cause his value is low and he has upside and maybe a change of scenery works out. Its why I hope the Sox can find a way to move Fields for a similar player or of course I'd love it if Fields started to hit.
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 27, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) Probably, but that's not what I'd do. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think Pods is going to keep up his current pace, which isn't spectacular anyway. Either way, I think you and Jas are right about Anderson and Ramirez, they should stick where they are. I also don't like to say it, but now that ramirez is hitting his defense is moving to the next level. He just looks quick and rangy out at short and wow has he been showing off quite the cannon of an arm.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 27, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) That's also a good point. I kind of like Jas's idea - Fields in LF while TCQ heals, Beckham at 3B, Anderson and Ramirez stay in CF and Short. Keep Wise at bay. If Fields is traded before Quentin is healthy, Kroeger for LF. That is all assuming that Fields hits. That said, its more likely that we'd either see BA put on the bench with Pods playing CF and Fields in LF or BA in CF with Pods in LF. Pods pretty much needs to be in the lineup every day with the way he's been producing at the top of the order (he really has been good there). I'm not saying what Pods is doing will last, but they need him. So I guess the question is, Fields in LF or BA in CF because only one of those can happen.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 27, 2009 -> 02:49 PM) Oh yeah, hadn't thought of that - Fields to LF if it looks like he's putting it together. Not a bad idea. So here is a question... would you rather have Fields or Kroeger in LF to hold CQ's spot? Also, I'm guessing this is the first domino in front of some other minor league moves. Fields. As much as I hate him, he does have major league tools.
  9. Like it or not, Charlotte is a Sox affiliate and they need to find a way to turn it into a better environment. Hopefully Beck's is just the first of guys to go there who has a better history of winning and more talent. I don't expect him to be in Charlotte for long and my guess is by early June Beckham is playing in Chicago. They'll have him see some more breaking pitches and than bam, he'll be at the cell.
  10. Ramirez is our SS. He's really starting to get his s*** together too. Fields will probably be trade bait, but if he hits, he could also stick in LF while the Sox figure out what to do with Quentin.
  11. JPN beats me to it, so credit goes to him.
  12. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 27, 2009 -> 02:29 PM) Am I the only one that gets sad seeing players promoted to Charlotte? I'd rather he stay in Birmingham and come up that way. Get a new ballpark down there. Charlotte is working on a new park. Usually the Sox don't send top prospects to Charlotte to stay long so my guess is they have an exact plan in mind and Gbeck won't be there for too long. I assume they want him to see a bit more breaking balls before they ultimately promote him. He's gotten some action at 3B so Fields has to be on notice because I think Beckham will be playing 3B in Chicago shortly.
  13. I know its minor league related, but its big news and first released at Soxtalk.com, but White Sox top prospect Gordon Beckham has been promoted to AAA Charlotte. Beckham might even be playing in tonights game, which will be broadcasted on MILB.com.
  14. Kick some ass Gavin!!!
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2009 -> 02:19 PM) Not sure if this was accurate, but I heard Weaver's been tougher on the White Sox (1 ER in 4 career starts) than anyone in franchise history. He dominates us.
  16. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 27, 2009 -> 02:04 PM) Also, bringing in Byrnes would practically ensure BA being part of the deal. Poreda, Allen, Richard, and Anderson for Haren, Byrnes, and 4-5 million dollars. I think you would have to do that deal. And it is something that could be intriguing to the DBacks. They clear a lot of payroll, bring in 2 quality lefty starters, get someone who could be their 1B of the future, and at least a 4th OF similar to Byrnes but a whole lot cheaper. But again, it just goes back to what the DBacks are planning on doing. I doubt trading Haren would cripple their franchise like Dick is making it sound like, but if they feel they can compete soon, they probably wouldn't want to trade Haren. Or if they want to revamp their team and go into a rebuilding or even re-tooling process, they'd definitely be interested in freeing up a LOT of salary room and gaining some quality prospects in return. It is a pretty similar package to what the Dbacks gave up, especially when you factor in the money the Sox are taking. I'd be exstatic with the deal, in reality it is probably an xbox deal, but I wouldn't have a problem at all. But I f***ing love Haren. I also really really like Brandon Allen.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 27, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) Depends on what else is included and who the top of the rotation guy is. Richard's been a pleasant surprise so far...its still possible you're right and he can't keep that up, but that's why they play the games. If Richard is valued as an upper echelon prospect, it might be the time to trade him. Depends on what the Sox think of him. Still, he's a very valuable prospect and I've always said that. He can start, pitch in relief and at worse will be a very good reliever for a long time. I'd deal him in the right deal but I also have no problem sticking him in the rotation and seeing what happens cause I wouldn't be shocked to see him turn into a pretty f***ing solid #3 or #4 and given how cheap he'll be for the next few years thats pretty damn valuable. But if it takes him to get Haren, I don't think twice. If it takes him and a big package to get Oswalt, I might actually think twice just because of Oswalts age and when I truly think the Sox will be ready to contend for a series.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 27, 2009 -> 01:58 PM) Not all scouts are right on about talent. I think in Beck's case, many of them really missed the boat. But look at the draft, almost everyone is producing at a great clip. It just happens to be last year is looking like a sick top 10 of the draft and I think it would be a big mistake to write off Alvarez because of a few months of professional ball, especially after what he did and showed in college. People were comparing this guy to all of the offensive greats.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 27, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) I think there's quite a few teams out there that would re-evaluate letting G. Beckham fall to 8 in that draft. His stock has risen higher than anyone's. Personally, I'll keep slayer over making a move for a guy who is at best 3 years away. Wait, are you saying Alvarez is 3 years away? Cause most scouts probably would have figured he'd be close to the majors by now. He's sucked ass in professional ball but once the switch flips it shouldn't take long for him to be at the major league level. Really, when you look at how the draft went, almost all of the top 10 is looking pretty damn good, with the big exception being Kyle Skipworth and Alvarez (but Alvarez was a total no brainer).
  20. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 27, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) I'd gladly eat the rest of Byrnes terrible contract if it helped us get Haren. Byrnes only has 1 year left on his contract, and while 11 million is a lot for a 4th OF who was likely a juicer, getting Haren in the process would be worth it. You have to remember that it just isn't the Sox's mo. However, if the Dbacks send a few million, you could make a case that it wouldn't be any more of a financial committment than what the Sox would have had to do with Peavy so maybe it makes sense.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 27, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) You'd take Alvarez in a second over Beckham? Really? I think over 90% of scouts would too. Beckham might have to move to 3B and if he does you now are comparing Alvarez and Beckham. Alvarez is better defensively and he has such massive offensive potential. That said, six months from now, people might be making fun of me for saying this cause Alvarez has been terrible in his short lived professional career.
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 27, 2009 -> 01:52 PM) I think he meant: "If someone would please just take Eric Byrnes contract off our hands I will give you whatever you want." Ya, that was another name I was going to throw out. I think if the Dbacks were smart they'd package him in a Haren deal. That is of course if they are looking to just clear payroll. If they are looking to get the most talent package and money isn't much of an object its another story. For example, even if the Dbacks paid a significant portion of Byrnes salary and gave us Haren, we'd be talking about a much smaller packaeg for Haren. Would the Sox do it, probably not, but again, it might be the only way to get Haren without giving up our top 3 or 4 prospects.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 27, 2009 -> 01:51 PM) You're totally missing the point of the sarcastic remark, but I'll leave it at that. No I understand your taking a shot at those ripping on Fields. And since I continue to fall in the camp that doesn't buy into Fields and wanted him traded for years, I think its a bush league argument.
  24. Interesting quote from Rock's article: Money, money, money....if someone has money or willing to take on payroll, they could really get some great players.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 27, 2009 -> 01:46 PM) They're not ready to give up on Stephen Drew yet? Based on the Josh Fields standard he's well past being a bust. (Edit: Sorry, I know, I shouldn't have dragged that in to another thread) Are you kidding me? Stephen Drew and Josh Fields don't belong in the same sentence. Drew is an upper echelon athlete who put up a .836 OPS last season (2nd full year) at the shortstop position. Now his first full year was a dissapointment and he's struggled this year, but you don't write a guy off that his type of potential. And if they wanted to I'd gladly trade Josh Fields for Stephen Drew, but unfortunately the Dbacks would laugh at that deal. That said, I wouldn't be shocked if Drew eventually goes elsewhere and excels as the Dbacks have quite a few guys that are just so much better than there numbers.
