  1. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 20, 2009 -> 12:24 PM) He's clearly the no. 1 college catching prospect right now, and it seems he can come off the board anywhere from 20-40. Here is a good scouting report on him with a little video: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/draft/y2009/...content=sanchez I dont' know, Indiana's catcher Phelgey is projected higher by certain publications and I've seen quite a few people rave about Phelgey's leadership and intangibles as well. In fact, aside from Bailey (whom I love from a potential stud back-stop perspective, ie, true defensive catcher) Phelgey and Sanchez are both two guys I like quite a bit with both having the upside of being pretty solid offensive catchers. I still don't know if I take a catcher until around our 2nd 2nd rounder and I hope Bailey falls to our 3rd round pick and than he's great value there, you'd just have to go a bit above slot to sign him.

Wow, when I found out Bale was involved I was in. I've still been excited but haven't read or checked out what opinions were. Now I'm dissapointed, but maybe that'll be a good thing as I'll go in with low expectations and come out being entertained.
  3. Made a minor adjustment. By popuar demand the three most popular pinned threads stayed, all others gone.
  4. Below is a brief recap: Aaron Poreda - He's the guy the Sox get the most calls about from other teams. If it was up to Hahn, the club would not promote him as a potential quick fix and would leave him down in the minors for him to work on his secondary stuff. Hahn went on to add that the organization has told Poreda (and Poreda is starting to understand this) that it is okay for him to make mistakes with his secondary pitches since its just the minors and thats what the minors are there for (his development). Hahn went on to indicate that Poreda could be ready for the pen right now, but that again, up to him, the best approach is to take things slowly and leth im develop My Take: This is a breath of fresh air and the absolute correct thing to do regarding Poreda's development. It sounds like the Sox are going to do whatever they can to get him to stick as a starter and that means he'll probably spend all year in the minors working specifically on improving the secondary stuff. If all goes well, he makes it as a starter and if not, the Sox can send him to the pen. Bringing him up now would have given him very little chance to ever succeed as a starter, thus limiting him to the pen and while I've been adamant that as he currently stands it'll be tough for him to make it as a starter, the Sox patience and approach good pay off in a big way. Tyler Flowers - The current ETA for Flowers is 2010 to 2011 (more conservative estimate), however, Hahn insinuated that offensively he's ready for the big leagues but that defensive issues will hold him back. The Sox have had him spend a lot of time with there roving catching instructor Brandon Allen - As it stands, Allen currently isn't on the 2009 timetable, but 2010 is more realistic, depending on what the Sox do with Dye/Thome. My Take: This might change in the next 3 weeks. Charlie Leesman - Hahn mentioned him as a sleeper and said the big thing to like is that he's a lefty with a 95MPH fastball. Hahn said he fell in the draft (10th round selection) due to some disciplinary and off the field issues, which the Sox investigated and deemed to be unimportant.
  5. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:01 AM) Talk about Drunk With Power. . . Jim, your going to see a bit fo a member change in a week. I'm going to create a retired mod group.
  6. All the talk out here is that Randolph emerged as one of the guys they want to build around.
  7. I smell a CJ led comeback.
  8. I'm sick of all the pinned threads so if anyone wonders where they went, it was me who dumped them.
  9. Poreda with 9 k's so far. In addition, kind of cool, one of the guys on the opposition is a guy I had an econ class with at Fullerton.
  10. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 20, 2009 -> 10:08 AM) Fields' UZR/150 (Ultimate Zone Rating per 150 games) is -13.6. His UZR is at -4.1 right now. If you compare that to a good fielder like Longoria, whose UZR/150 is 18.6 and UZR is currently 5.6, that's bad. Fields is below average right now. His UZR is pretty much what it was in 2007. Perfect, so it matches exactly what my eyes are telling me.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 20, 2009 -> 09:48 AM) Danks now 1-2 with a double. FWIW He has struck out 11 of his first 36 at bats in AA, which is roughly 30% which means his BABIP is .440. I'm not knocking any of his potential but with that strikeout rate he really is going to need a lot more time. Its been 36 at bats. He's going to strike out. In fact, he might end up like Jimmy Edmonds with a bit less power. But he does have a good swing and his career strikeout number will fall as he continues to develop.
  12. You know what, I'm starting to love a Hinrich for Camby swap. It gets the Bulls one more 2010 expiring contract and helps them get better at the same time. The Bulls than target a backup PG with one of there two draft picks or maybe sign one in FA. Than all they got to do is try and get Deng back and as soon as he is, package him up in a deal for salary saving space and the Bulls will be the biggest players in 2010 and would still be a playoff team next year, which means they would be able to offer all of the available FA's the most (Big city, Good team, one star (Drose), and most imporantly the Bulls could still have Tyrus/Noah/Salmons/Camby (as long as they are willing to pay luxury tax). Not too bad if you ask me.
  13. This sounds pretty promising (per the tribune):
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 20, 2009 -> 09:42 AM) Last night, Fields was awful in the field. There were 4 potential plays to be made. An average fielder makes at least one, probably two. A great fielder makes 2 probably 3. Brooks Robinson in his prime makes all 4. Fields made none. He really has slow reactions on groundballs. He cannot hit second. That is giving the opponent an advantage. BTW, what's the deal with Pods new 16" softball style of running up and hitting the ball? I could maybe understand it if he was hitting grounders giving him a running start to first base, but everytime he performs this, he hits the ball in the air, something he shouldn't be doing too much of. Everyone talks about Fields playing solid defense, but if you watch the games closely you'll see that his 3B positioning is awful and that in fact he's flat out mediocre. I don't know if anyone has any defensive metrics (as I am not good at those) which would back what my eyes are telling me but I haven't been impressed at all. I'll also admit I was very spoiled. I think a short stint in AAA is what the doctor ordered and during that time you go with a combo of Nix/Betemeit. They couldn't hit anyworse and your saving Fields in a sense. But I think Fields gets a little bit longer before the Sox go that route and I don't have a problem with that. At this point his trade value is pretty low to the point that all you can do is trade him for another failed prospect (something I'm not opposed to).
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 20, 2009 -> 09:38 AM) If the White Sox would sent Jose Contreras to Charlotte, they would have no problem putting Gavin Floyd in the bullpen if his performance continues to blow. Remember though, Contreras was the guy that lead the charge to Charlotte, but I also agree with you, if the Sox don't think Gavin has it right, they'll move him to the pen and try straigthening him up there. Bottom line though they are invested in him and will do whatever it takes to get him back on track.
  16. QUOTE (CJ_supporter @ May 20, 2009 -> 09:18 AM) Might be an understatement, since we are family. Thanks for the welcome. Awesome, you couldn't have come to a better spot cause I know we have a ton of CJ followers and supporters on here.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 20, 2009 -> 09:18 AM) Retherford? Reterford is a tweener but I fully believe he's got a shot to be a damn good utility player in this league. And who knows, maybe he'll hit enough to start somewhere. Gilmore though, has the ability to be an all star 3rd baseman. Still incredibly raw though and maybe only has a 5-10% chance of panning out, but still, I can't deny his potential.
  18. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ May 19, 2009 -> 08:57 PM) Thought this was interesting... maybe a full-time replacement for Hunter/Roach? Tribune.com Awesome, I didn't think we'd get him but he'd be an excellent addition and would instantly become the best 3rd LB the Bears have had in a long time.
  19. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ May 19, 2009 -> 08:49 PM) Blake G. to LAC... does that mean Kirk to LAC and Camby or Kaman to CHI? ooo i sure hope so. I'd try to get rid of Deng. If the Bulls can find a way to get rid of Deng/Hinrich for an expiring contract or something, they would potentially have the ability to sign two guys to max deals without losing Tyrus/Noah. Wouldn't be the worse thing in the world. Oh and they would also be able to still keep Salmons as long as they'd be willing to go into luxury tax.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2009 -> 08:41 PM) Beasley has a much, much, much better support system. At least for now. Girffin has a much much much better work ethic. OH and I don't buy those knocking Beasley, the guy will be an all star in this league.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2009 -> 08:25 PM) I see you're giving me the hard sell here. Somehow I'm just less than convinced. Where's the Candyman thread? The Clippers have Al Thornton whose a nice piece and Eric Gordon. The key for them is dumping Baron, although he'll probably get convinced to stick around and they'll be decent with him, but the Clippers got a nice looking front-court and should be able to move one of there guys for solid value. Find a true point and another guard and they have a nice looking front five.
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ May 19, 2009 -> 08:03 PM) I said he was a less mobile Beasley. I never said that he wasn't a good player. They dont' even compare. Griffin is a very strong athletic player down low with a really good arsenal of low post moves. Beasley was much more of a wing player. Now Griffin isn't that tall and people make a big deal about that, but he's a very good athlete, has a strong build, good quickness, and will be an elite PF in this league. Oh and if the Bulls are interested, one of Camby/Randolph/Kaman is now available.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2009 -> 08:06 PM) Anaheim is not a #8 seed either. A lot of this is match ups, and we do not match up with Detroit. We can't out physical them, and we can't out speed them. Anaheim got a lot better when they gave Hiller the nod.
  24. QUOTE (rangercal @ May 19, 2009 -> 08:00 PM) I don't buy it. Anaheim was so close to knocking off mighty Detroit. Anaheim was the perfect matchup for Detroit and in general is a team that is built very well for the playoffs. They are a big physical hockey team that can really give Detroit problems. Chicago on the other hand is a skilled team going up against the most skilled team in the league.
  25. Oh and I assume your a big Retheford fan?
